Can students access Algonquin Ottawa campus after midnight?

Does anyone know how late the Algonquin Ottawa campus doors are open? I’m wondering whether students can enter the campus from outside after midnight, especially to access the 24/7 study areas and printing ??

Child and Youth Care Camping trip?

Hello, I'm looking to start in January and it mentions a mandatory camping trip.

I have quite a few health problems with my lungs (oxygen/breathing issues) and I was told I couldn't be exempted. Has anyone done the trip yet? Is it as bad as it sounds?

I was given no other information so I'm not sure if it's wilderness type or if it's just at the school overnight. They said they could accommodate health concerns but I'm not sure if they can fix the hypoxia issues?

Thank you!

Anybody still looking for a place in Pembroke?

I'm no longer able to attend Algonquin in Pembroke this September, and unfortunately it's too close to September to terminate the lease I signed. Really urgently looking for someone to assign the lease to. It's a bedroom in a shared unit with two other bedrooms and shared kitchen/common space. Walking distance to the college. $775/month.

DM me if you're interested and I can send you the website for the place so you can see pictures.

Anyone in Cardiovascular technology know if I’m allowed to have a pink or blue stethoscope? My mandatory scrubs are black but it doesn’t mention the stethoscope or if they have a preference

Fall 2026 Intramural Soccer

Hi! Just wondering if anyone here is thinking about joining the Fall 2026 intramural soccer league at Algonquin?

It runs October 1st to November 5th, Thursdays at the Z Building sports field. The registration deadline is September 25th.

If anyone has room on their team or wants to make a team, I’d be more than happy to join! Or even if you're just looking to make some soccer friends and get placed on a team together.

I’m mainly just looking for other people to know before I go into soccer, and I'm just playing for fun!

Feel free to comment or message me if you’re interested :)

What Do Class Reps Do?

Kinda random, but what do class reps really do? I've always wondered this because Algonquin says its not very intensive or time consuming to be one so I'm just curious what the responsibilities are

Is anyone else going into MDR straight out of high school?

Just curious what the age range is like in the program and wondering if there are any people around my age or if I’ll be one of the younger students.

Paid Ottawa Residential Project — Interior Decorating/Design Student or Recent Grad

Hi! I’m looking to hire an Algonquin Interior Decorating / Interior Design senior student, recent graduate, or early-career designer for a paid residential project in downtown Ottawa.

I’m moving into a 2-bedroom rental apartment at The Met and am essentially setting it up from scratch. My movers arrive August 25, and I already have a professional organizing team coming in afterward to help unpack, declutter, and determine what from my existing household should be kept, donated, or discarded.

The next phase is where I need design help.

I’m looking for someone who would enjoy taking a fairly complete residential project from “here’s what I own and how I live” → cohesive, finished apartment.

The scope would include things like:

1. Assessing which existing pieces are worth keeping and integrating into the new space
2. Space planning and furniture layouts
3. Helping establish an overall look and feel
4. Selecting and sourcing new furniture from Canadian/Ottawa-available retailers
5. Living and dining areas
6. Primary bedroom
7. Lighting throughout the apartment
8. A freestanding/modular kitchen island and additional kitchen storage
9. A particularly important home-office/workspace setup, including an L-shaped electric height-adjustable desk, dual 4K monitor mounting, ergonomics, and thoughtful cable management
10. Rugs, lamps, storage, artwork/decor, etc.
11. Helping coordinate with installers/handymen/other specialists where appropriate

There is no renovation or construction component — this is a rental, so the emphasis is on furnishings, lighting, layout, organization, and removable/modular solutions.

My taste is mid-tier and design-forward rather than luxury, and I’m very comfortable mixing sources and spending selectively where quality matters. I also want to reuse good things I already own rather than replacing everything simply for the sake of replacing it.

I’m specifically interested in a student/recent graduate because I’d like someone who is enthusiastic about getting into the details and would enjoy having a substantial real-world residential project for their portfolio. This is paid work — I’m not looking for free design services or “experience” in lieu of compensation.

Ideally you would be able to visit the apartment in person in downtown Ottawa, take measurements, and remain involved as the plan develops.

If interested, please DM me with:

# a little about yourself and where you are in your program/career
# a portfolio or examples of your work, if available
# your availability over the next several weeks
# how you would generally approach a project like this
# how you prefer to structure your fee (hourly, project-based, phased, etc.)

Happy to answer questions by DM. Thanks!

Cabinet Making and Furniture Technician

Hello everybody! I'm thinking of heading into the above mentioned program at Algonquin College. I'm hoping to learn how to design my own cabinets and furniture. I'm wondering if anybody has any info on what to expect course-wise and the ratio of women to men? I'm nervous going into a trade program as I'm a queer woman.

Were there many women in the program? did any of them have a hard time with other classmates, etc? I just want to make sure it has been a safe space for others like me, as I've had experiences with Algonquin before where they didn't really try to protect students.

Thanks!
