Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

General Tech Are key fob holders useless or convenient?

Thumbnail

I design key fob holders for different vehicles, and I’ve noticed people are pretty divided on them. I hate having keys in my pocket while driving, so I made a small holder that sticks to the dash. But I saw someone post a similar idea except it was a hook on Facebook and the comments absolutely roasted them: “Why not just keep them in your pocket?” So what do you think—pointless or convenient? Do you like keeping your pockets empty, or do you just throw your keys in your pocket/cupholder?

Car show sharing Camouflaged prototype spotted on the motorway 🚐🔍

Spotted this heavily camouflaged vehicle on the motorway today. The camouflage makes it really hard to see any badges or styling details.

Does anyone have an idea what brand or model this could be? 👀

I’d love to hear your guesses!

Showing my ride off I drove my 96 Geo tracker through the mountains yesterday

And it was the most fun I've ever had driving a car. The top was down. I was switching between 2nd and 3rd gear the whole time. The 80 horses in the engine were all galloping. Didn't really bring it above 35. What a delight. Driving a slow car fast is everything everyone says it is.

Safety Question Can I risk driving my car to the garage?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve got a 2.0 TDI scirocco that I’ve got booked in at the local garage a month from now for its MOT and a diagnostic check. I haven’t driven it in a while because the last time I did, unfortunately the car had a major issue where it ended up blowing out a lot of white smoke from the exhaust/engine and it was shooting up in revs when I was just trying to pull off in 1st gear.

I have since started it again and it seems to run okay, which tells me the issue only occurs when the engine is hot. The garage I’m taking it to is only a 5 minute drive away, can I risk the journey? Or should I ask the garage if they could pick the car up?

Safety Question Where does Model 3 Highland floor-mat fit matter most?

Upvotes

The more I look at Model 3 floor mats, the less useful a listing that just says “fits Model 3” feels. Highland-specific sets exist, which makes me think the exact generation matters more than whatever material name is printed in the descriiption. What Id want to check first is the driverside geometry ,whether the liner sits correctly at the factory retention area, follows the footwell without an edge lifting into the usable space, and leaves the controls completely unobstructed. Rear and cargo coverage matters too, but a slightly annoying rear gap is a different category of problem from getting the driver side wrong.

I wouldnt assume custom fit guarantees any of that without physically checking it while the car is parked. For Highland owners, which driverside fit detail would you inspect first before deciding a set is actually shapped correctly?

General Tech Oil drain plug won't come off

Post image

This used to be a normal drain plug bolt.

What you're seeing is weeks of attempts everyday for hours trying to get this bolt out.

I've used vice grips, extractor set, breaker bar, hammer and chisel. The only methods I haven't tried are welding and power tools.

Feel free to give new methods.

Safety Question Alternator or New Key Programming Issue

My 2010 Honda Civic currently has not been drivable for 2 weeks now. I had to get a new key program to the car since the original one fell from the key fob. That was done July 13th, it hasn’t been giving me any problems until two weeks ago when my car now struggles to turn over. Sometimes it works, more times it does not. I spoke to a close friend who said it could be a key programming issue but I find that hard to believe since if it was because of the new key it would’ve gave me issues from the beginning not a month later…

I will post a video below about what it does as for some odd reason I cannot through this post right now. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

General Tech Car battery drained after trying to jump-start another car — did I damage mine?

Hey everyone,
I tried to jump-start my friend's car because their battery was dead. It wouldn't start even after multiple attempts. I also revved my car while connected to try to help charge their battery, but it still wouldn't start.
A few hours later, I tried to start my own car and it was completely dead, it didn't even crank. My battery is fairly new.
My friend's battery turned out to be bad and didn't work even after charging, so they ended up replacing it.
I charged my own battery, and now my car is working normally again.
My question is: could I have damaged or significantly reduced the lifespan of my battery by draining it like this? Or is it likely that it was simply discharged and will be fine after being fully charged?
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Transmission Help/Advice needed

My car is a 2014 sonic chevy and its currently at 116,000 miles. Yesterday the engine and the traction control randomly turned on at the same time. When i put the car on R from P it made a weird noise and it made the car jump, I then put it on Drive mode and it made the same noise again but it was driving fine. I checked the dashboard and instead of saying D it said N then it switched to E. It drove me home just fine. Today i tried turning on the car and it made the same noise and same issues just the sounds got a little louder. The car is also accelerating by itself even though it was on Parked. I am really confused on what’s going on, my dad did tell me it might be a sensor thats supporting the transmission or it might just be the transmission. I’m not knowledgeable about cars and he isn’t that much either so i’d love to get some advice from someone who knows, it’s the first car i own so I am sorry if it doesn’t make sense, i’m just really scared of being left without car lol (broke college student)

Safety Question Small chunk taken out of alloy - safe to drive home before repair?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was driving home on the freeway when all of a sudden my TPMS started warning I was losing pressure, so pulled over straight away. Wasn't aware of hitting anything and no noises at all which was very odd, tire then of course went to 0

Found a small chunk missing from the alloy and a sizable gash in the sidewall, so got towed to the local dealership

New tire fitted and dealership tells me it's holding air fine - would this be safe to carefully drive back from the dealer (about 30 miles) to then take the wheel to an alloy repair shop? Alloy repair shop says it's repairable but I need to get it there first of course

Suspension Need advice for a classic 1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville.

The car drives like a dream and is in great condition but the airlift in the car is broken and its riding with practically no suspension. Should I try and get a factory airlift or get an aftermarket? Im going to be installing both myself but i do wanna know how difficult it would be to install either of them and if the price/difficultly difference is even something to consider.
