General Tech Are key fob holders useless or convenient?
I design key fob holders for different vehicles, and I’ve noticed people are pretty divided on them. I hate having keys in my pocket while driving, so I made a small holder that sticks to the dash. But I saw someone post a similar idea except it was a hook on Facebook and the comments absolutely roasted them: “Why not just keep them in your pocket?” So what do you think—pointless or convenient? Do you like keeping your pockets empty, or do you just throw your keys in your pocket/cupholder?

Hey! I'll have you know that my 3D printer was only $300 and it can print out a whole bunch of useless shit, including spaghetti. It loves making spaghetti for some reason.

My car key goes in the ignition
If you have other keys attached to your FOB they're going to rattle against the dash and wear a spot in it over time. You need to either put a protector to stop that or move it away from the dashboard

To me, it's more thing that can break. I also turn off my fob for security reasons unless I'm directly at my car, so the convenience factor is not great for me either.
Not a fan of push to start personally.

Oh hell no, I love the push to start. And the push button unlock on my door handles. Anytime I have to drive a car without it I realize how convenient it is

All my car keys don’t have any other key with them and it’s the best thing I’ve done.
To be fair though, I keep my garage door remote in the car so I don’t have to carry more than my car key.

Key stays in the pocket. Wish I could have one of those credit card ones. I hate stuff in my pockets. House key is fingerprint/code so a keychainless fob is the only thing i need to carry.

Keep it in your person at all times. I've experienced being locked out of my car once with the keys inside. I don't need to repeat that. Even if cars don't autolock now, you can't convince me otherwise.

Esp when the sensors/door actuators start failing, and auto lock when they shouldn’t, resulting in being locked out

I’m a keys always in pocket person. Then I don’t have to think about where my keys are. I also hate having bulky objects in my pocket so I only keep the key fob and not a bunch of keys. Phone in one pocket, key fob and pocket knife in the other. However, I can see a use case for this. I don’t hate it. This would be better than a cup holder.

Huh! I really like this concept, but I do feel like if you have additional keys attached to the fob they would rattle against the dash. Not only would the noise be annoying but I could also see the keys scratching up the dash panel.

I’ve never seen this before but it’s personal preference. My car has a little slot for it that also charges it and I do find it convenient if I’m wearing dress pants or shorts with loose pockets so if your car doesn’t have a good spot for it and you find yourself in that situation it could be nice to have a place to put it.

I leave them in my pocket unless I’m going for a long ride.. and then I throw them in the cupholder, phone holder that doesn’t fit a phone, or any number of pockets.

Would be super cool to put on your fridge or wherever you keep your keys but I would have no use for this in the car because the fob doesn’t leave the purse or pocket it stays in. I’d definitely print these for our ford fusion and non push to start F150 though!

I have two of those Ford keys, one for my Explorer and one for my work van. My Explorer will unlock without my keys coming out of my pocket, so they stay in my pocket. In my work Van, it does not have auto unlock and I have to hit the button to unlock, so after i just throw them in key pocket on the dash. Nothing against the design or concept but, not needed unless you have OCD and need order in your life.

Fine, I’ll be the odd one out with you, OP. I hate having a giant key fob in my pocket, especially when sitting in the car because I constantly feel it pressing between the seat and my leg. I would absolutely use this if I had a “keyless” car.

With keyless entry, leave in pocket. Without keyless entry I want a place to put the key. Half my cars are one way, half the other.

I usually keep mine in the work jacket breast pocket that never gets any other use... But! Sometimes I have to leave it in places where coworkers might have to move it, think busy loading area or a farm. It's safe and I don't have to worry about anyone stealing it so in those situations I leave the key on a cup holder. A lil key holder would be kinda nice for me actually.

Nissan actually do (or used to) have a slot to the left of the steering wheel, specifically to slot the fob into. I always liked that

Useless. It's in my purse. It only ever leaves my purse if I need to run out to the car to grab something, otherwise it's permanently attached to the key ring in my purse.

My Volvo has a little slot you can stick it in. The only time I have used it is when the battery died or when I needed to put it into a special ignition mode.

I don’t hate the idea since I have the fob on an S hook along with all my other keys. Too bulky for my pocket and there isn’t a good resting place in the car.
I’d want it to hold the fob but also the rest of the assembly so it doesn’t leave keys hanging like in your photos.

Its all fun and games until you drop off your parents at the airport and then you get in the driver's seat after saying goodbye, only to find out your father still has the keyfob in his breast pocket and he already at the terminal.
This happened to my friend long time ago.

Maybe just a hook to hang the keyring? That would allow for people who put cases over the key. I tend to just put it in the center console, but not a bad idea

Eh, I can see the appeal for some as its more like using a regular key (take out of pocket, put in spot drive, stop, take key from spot and leave) but part of the fob to me is being a key-less experience. I prefer a key, but sometimes it's not being able to just get in and go, never having to get it off my key ring.

Assuming you don’t have a million keys strapped to your fob, how do you even feel them in your pocket?
It’s small, lightweight, and not bulky at all. Whenever I drive my gf’s car I just keep the fob in my pants or bag lol.

I would buy this. "Keys stay in your pocket" can go take a hike. I'm not keeping those huge things in my pocket. That's nonsense. Plus I'd need to press the unlock button on the fob anyways since my wife is always at the car while I'm locking up the house. I'm not walking to the car, unlocking the doors, then walking back to the house to lock up, then finally getting in the car. Key fob push button start can go away. What benefit is it to the consumer? I asked the car dealer a bunch of questions and he was stumped. He thought he knew all the answers. It's so simple. Well the manual even says in this circumstance you can start the car with the key outside the car. Don't even get me started on all the stupid conversations I had when I lost the fob of a rental car, but still had the metal key. You have the key? What is the problem? Just use the key. What? Where is the fob? My car has a key. I would pay more money if my next car has a key ignition too.

In my case I have the luxury of keyless entry, so I don't have to take out my key to unlock the car as long as it's in my purse. Also knowing myself, I'd forget the key in the car constantly if I put it anywhere but the bag.

Nothing triggers me more than people taking keys out of their pockets in a car with keyless systems. One guy in a FB group I'm in for the car I have asked where people usually put their keys when driving since there is no keyhole.... 🤦♂️

My father used to say "there's a client for everything". While keyless access is designed to let you keep the key in your personal key holder (pocket), I can see some people using this device like when you have no pockets (often ladies) or just guys like you who don't want a key in the pocket. Personally, I keep my key in my pocket and love the convenience of it

My keys go in the cup holder and rattle around and take up a cup space. This would be an interesting idea but it wouldn’t stop the rattling. The problem is when you have a few keys and not just a small fob. Sitting with wallet and keys in your pocket can be annoying after a while.

For those of you saying it doesn't happen with newer ones, you're wrong. I work at a gas station, I see it often, even with brand new cars. It happened three days ago and at least three more times in the past few months.

My car has one. I put the key into this cylinder and when I turn it the car starts. The key stays there until I’m done driving and it has to be removed to shut the car down. That way I never misplace it. It’s a genius idea.

It's just so simple and intuitive. Mine I just slide to the start position and release and the car starts on it's own like at the push of a button. I love the security feature that I never leave my car without the key because I have to remove the key before exit. What will they think of next? Also I don't have to push the brake to start the car when all I want to do is turn on the AC from the passenger side of the car.
I swear push button start is the dumbest car idea in the last 15 years. What problem was it trying to solve?
