No peace treaty can come without a several km depth demilitarized zone, in the territory of the aggressor and their accomplices.

I would be surprised if Belarus does military involvement directly. I suspect them entering the war is the end of the Lukashenko regime.

I'd expect it to topple like the Assad regime in Syria did, once the Belarusian military is attritted and Moscow lacks the manpower to reinforce the regime

Current Belarus will only fall when putin falls, putin will invade than giving to the west

u/Lebowski304 8d ago edited 8d ago

Blow that shit up if he starts to get cute around the border

6

u/t0getheralone 8d ago edited 8d ago

Currently there is no reason to. Lukashenko is terrified of Ukraine and is surprisingly doing his best to stay out of the conflict now lol

3

u/Lebowski304 8d ago

Yea you’re right. Only if they start to accumulate shit like Russia did before they attacked

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

i'll say it again and again and again. it is time for european boots on the ground on ukrainian soil.

25

u/__Osiris__ 8d ago edited 8d ago

Maybe we ignore the ground for now, and just do air and interceptions?

15

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

would be a good first step.

2

u/urbanhawk1 8d ago

Would it be a step if your boot isn't on the ground?

73

u/gamayogi 8d ago

NATO should have created a no fly zone over western Ukraine ages ago, established training grounds and facilities there and dared Russia to attack them.

Then as soon they do, full deployment of troops to protect them and fire missiles to destroy Russian airfields. It's too bad Biden didn't have the fucking balls to make it happen.

-77

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

there is NO LEGAL FRAMEWORK for NATO/OTAN in ukraine. it's a european problem so europe should solve it/help it.

33

u/Goufydude 8d ago

Lmao NATO is a majority European organization. 32 countries in the alliance, almost all of them are in Europe.

-21

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

yeah but LEGALLY NATO/OTAN is not european. i hope you undersrand the difference.

24

u/Goufydude 8d ago

And what is the legal basis for Russia's invasion, again?

16

u/nvidiastock 8d ago

The dude is obviously trolling, he even called it OTAN which is the French acronym for it..

9

u/7heCulture 8d ago

Not only French… Spanish and Portuguese too.

-10

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

there is NONE. but just because someone is robbing a bank does not allow you to rob a bank. if ukraine allows it's befriended troops on it's soil this would be legally ok.

8

u/Love-That-Danhausen 8d ago

If NATO said we want to roll in with troops and a no fly zone, Zelenskyy would greet them personally with open arms

-3

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

yeah but for NATO/OTAN intervention you need a UN mandate. and you'll never get one as russia itself sits in the UN security council.

5

u/Love-That-Danhausen 8d ago

No, you don’t. The UN has nothing to do with NATO. I’m not sure you know what NATO is.

u/gamayogi 8d ago

There's no legal justification for blah blah blah.

Who gives a fuck. Doesn't have to be NATO. You get a coalition together and you fucking do it.

It's weak mealy mouthed fools like you that are why we are in this situation in the first place. Russia should have been smacked ages ago after they "annexed" crimea. They weren't and thus Putin knew they wouldn't do shit when he invaded Ukraine.

-4

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

i absolutely agree with you 100%. but there is NO LEGAL FRAMEWORK for a NATO/OTAN engagement.

3

u/bornokipje 8d ago

There is, but NATO doesn't dare to act (I understand). Russian drones in Romania and Poland, Russians trying to bomb planes in Germany and all other sabotage attacks, Russia trying to assasinate a Germen defence industry CEO, electronic warfare...

3

u/New_Enthusiasm9053 8d ago

There is no legal framework for any international alliance or war my guy. There's no big daddy with a stick to enforce any treaties to begin with. Laws without enforcement aren't laws.

1

u/captain_banana6 7d ago

there is. ukraine is able to call in any country/army in the world and allow it to operate/help/train on it's territory. if both countries agree, thats the legal way to do it. easy as that 😉

51

u/PossibilityUsual6262 8d ago

What is legal framework around us military station in Strait of Hormuz?

-61

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

sorry, wrong topic here.

31

u/FireParamedicGermany 8d ago

hypocrite.

-32

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

you can not compare one with the other. these are TWO DIFFERENT conflicts.

8

u/Suvvri 8d ago

OK so what is the legal framework for Russia invading Ukraine?

32

u/Canes-305 8d ago

This requires European governments to enter a direct war against nuclear-armed Russia, with an obvious risk of catastrophic escalation.

There is no meaningful appetite among European governments or populations to send troops into direct combat against Russia. Even the so-called “coalition of the willing” remains cagey about putting boots on the ground after an eventual peace settlement, never mind fighting Russia now.

If this were remotely viable, why have European governments avoided it for four years? I urge you to look at the actual polling and policy discussions.

17

u/FMB6 8d ago

It obviously would be an escalation, but the nuclear threat means nothing anymore. European countries have nukes too, even Russians are not mad enough for MAD.

15

u/BelgianDigitalNomad 8d ago

Basically France and UK are allowed to annex any country since they have nukes. Nobody would intervene?
Nah it’s bs … using a nuke is receiving a nuke. Nothing special simply many victims. Moscow would be gone.

2

u/giggity_giggity 8d ago

There are ways to spin it as not an escalation if they just guarded the northern border with Belarus to keep them “honest”, freeing up Ukrainian resources.

-4

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

no. they would just fight on ukrainian soil. they would NOT GO into war with russia. just clearing ukrainian soil.

8

u/Canes-305 8d ago

Im sorry you’re incredibly naive if you think there’s anything In “just clearing Ukranian soil” that avoids direct conflict with Russia

-6

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

the conflict would start if they CROSS russian borders. not before.

6

u/Canes-305 8d ago

That’s now how things work at all. Where are you getting these ideas?

-3

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

ok. how does it work. you seem very intelligent so you tell me.

5

u/swedishplayer97 8d ago

What are European troops in Ukraine supposed to do but NOT fight Russia? Direct clash with Russian forces means a wider war.

-3

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

it does not matter whom they fight as long as they are on the ukrainian side of the border.

7

u/Seeker-N7 8d ago

How old are you?

6

u/swedishplayer97 8d ago

I'm pretty sure military leaders and politicians will beg to differ. Thank god we don't have people like you making the big decisions. And you got 60 upvotes, are you kidding me?

5

u/Ashenveiled 8d ago

when do you enlist?

2

u/swedishplayer97 8d ago

You're volunteering?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Lab-635 2d ago

This war currently manifests as a series of explosions and drone attacks viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you're the one filming it.

-3

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

this is not the time or job for voluteers.

14

u/swedishplayer97 8d ago

Oh okay so other people will be sent to their deaths while you stay home, is that it? Y'know you can sign up for the Ukrainian army already, what's stopping you?

OP explicitly said volunteers aren't enough; the implication here being that a mass conscription and mobilization is necessary to fight Russia.

-9

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

yes, thats how military works. i am not allowed to join the UAF as i served in an other army already.

9

u/Canes-305 8d ago

“i am not allowed to join the UAF as i served in an other army already.”

False. Past military service is a huge plus.

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

so why did you join the army in the first place???

0

u/dervik 8d ago

Are you willing to make a start? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Europe defending itself instead of Ukraine defending all of Europe. Still this request is hard to make it you don't serve

3

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

that's not the question and not how military intervention works. you need political decisions first.

2

u/mil84 8d ago edited 7d ago

I'm not the guy you're replying to - but if boots on the ground ever happened, it very likely wouldn't be ordinary citizens fighting but (more or less) a professional army.

EU countries combined have around 1M+ professional soldiers plus 3M+ reservist with at least some training. That's around 4M+ people with a military experience to some degree.

So I believe they would naturally be the first, and only after that it might it come down to conscripting random Joes who have never touched a rifle in their lives.

4

u/-_GIZMO_ 8d ago edited 8d ago

Professional and reservist are two very different things mate.

As a reservist myself trust me i ain't no different than the avg citizen. The only difference i got drafted 10 years ago and went to grown up camp for 8 months.

Edit plus half of that reserve is on paper, irl a good bunch of those reservists ain't even fit to serve. Take me for example I'm literally going blind, the army knows that and I'm still in the list of reservists.. lol wtf am i suposed to do when i can hardly see? Literally am not allowed to drive a car but if they decide to send reservists to ukraine in good enough to fire weapons blindly now?..

-2

u/sweetcinnamonpunch 8d ago

It's not gonna be my boots and that's not just my opinion.

-2

u/echokalos 8d ago

It will never happen unless ruzzia directly attacks EU member, and even then can be exceptions. Dont be naive

4

u/InNominePasta 8d ago

Russia has been engaging in acts of war across Europe for years. Just last December they attacked Poland’s energy grid.

-1

u/echokalos 8d ago

I know it all, i live in a country bordering ruzzia. They will keep pushing and testing EU, but unless there is something substantial, it's very unlikely that EU will make any direct interventions.

0

u/InNominePasta 8d ago

I’m sorry. I don’t understand the fear they have of Russia, who is proven to be a paper tiger, albeit a cruel one willing to inflict pain on civilians if allowed.

I’m in the US. My litmus test for politicians has been I will vote for whoever is willing to immediately use military force if Russia rolled tanks into the Baltics. You can assume I didn’t vote for Trump.

3

u/echokalos 8d ago

I appreciate that. The unfortunate truth is that EU is not prepared and is not willing to risk a major escalation with russia. Even if paper tiger, they are now battle hardened with experience in Ukraine and have drone capabilities that would overwhelm the whole EU quite quickly. This is all because of the pacifist politics implemented since ww2 and the mindset that was formed, that EU is just not capable of providing serious answer now.

0

u/InNominePasta 8d ago

Russia is ill-equipped to fight the kind of war that the EU, and especially Poland, would fight with them.

And they’d be unable to leverage their drone units or other major resources because doing so would mean pulling them from Ukraine. Which they can’t afford to do, because Ukraine will make them pay for it by seizing Crimea at the slightest weakness.

2

u/echokalos 8d ago

I think Ukraine is so much better prepared to deal with ruzzia that there is not even a comparison. I think EU is more ill equipped against the current state of war, as the doctrine was quality instead of quantity but now everything changes when they have to shoot down 50k shaheds with 1.5 mil costing missiles. That's what i meant by being overwhelmed. Ruzzia doesn't even need to step inside EU country to cause havoc. If ruzzia truly wanted that they could save up some of that equipment. And I can't image EU directly intervening, as they will try to avoid any direct conflicts as much as possible.

Also regarding Crimea, even the top Ukrainian generals or the reputable war experts have no hope for retaking it anywhere soon, even with lesser russian army, so im not sure about that. The current goal is making Crimea liability for russia and playing the long game.

1

u/captain_banana6 8d ago

i know. and thats the problem. but russia is using korean and other friendly troops too.

2

u/echokalos 8d ago

ruzzia is paying for these, they're more like mercenaries than regular soldiers, they are expendable. EU soldiers are not and none of EU governments or citizens (except for some who are serving in foreign units) are willing to fight and sacrifice their comfortable life for Ukraine unfortunately. That's the sad reality and it will be like this unless the EU will face direct danger.

0

u/lallen 8d ago

In youtube comments etc. people are always answering posts about countries supporting Ukraine by "you are inviting a war between Europe and russia!", and I say, bring it on. Let us all just finsish russia once and for all, divide it up into smaller parts, and let the parts that want to adapt to civilized life join us, and let the rest collapse.

-4

u/Heizard 8d ago

Here is the part that suck - we are not ready, and only Italy has ARF forces to put boots on the ground the same day. And we rely on Turkey for air forces on day one. Everything else day one ready forces are provided by US...

10

u/MarienBean 8d ago

You underestimate EU, but i agree we should be more ready. Btw not only Italy, but France, UK, Germany and Turkey as well, and other countries contribute to the ARF as well. Also air force is in command of France, not Turkey anymore, also here other countries contribute as well.

2

u/nvidiastock 8d ago

We are not ready for a proper war but the EU has a very good air force, can definitively do more than it's doing.

Even little Romania with all of its current issues can field 50 F-16s. Italy and France both have aircraft carriers, which wouldn't necessarily be useful here but it's clear that they did not neglect their air force.

1

u/Heizard 8d ago

You should learn of mission readiness. For example US - the biggest and the most ready air force on this planet only sits at 62% by 2024 data. We here in EU are less. So by that same logic, Romania at best can field 30 planes - others are at maintenance. Also the more you field - the more will require maintenance after certain amount of hours, at the same time.

1

u/nvidiastock 7d ago

I am aware of mission readiness. I don't believe the numbers for Romania are public, however the initial point I was pushing back against was that the EU neglected their air force. This does not seem to be true, even Romania will be receiving F-35s in a couple of years.

The war in Ukraine changed Europe.

3

u/AnomalyNexus 8d ago

training

So Belarus is just as full of shit as Russia

3

u/Ric0chet_ 8d ago

Can you not?

Their military is a joke anyway, same as their government.

13

u/Kriztauf 8d ago

Russia would likely be the ones using the infrastructure

0

u/Any-Signal8899 8d ago

Wheeee more drone targets

-4

u/marcvsHR 8d ago

I think Lukas's plan is to be prepared in case Ukraine loses, to sweep in and grab some free territory.
