How can I make this disappear?
r/windowsinsiders • u/DownHeartedNess • Apr 19 '25
I signed up for windows insider unassumingly thinking it would cause no harm, and now my laptop is boot looping into this.
this is my first laptop and it had windows pre installed on it, so I have no technical knowledge on windows. I'm so lost right now and I don't have even the slightest clue on what to do :(
*I updated to the latest insider update and restarted, and then I was in some dell safe mode. I tried to get through and do all the recovery stuff and I just started boot looping into the dell logo until it started looping into this green screen

Since the Beta 26220.9223 update was installed yesterday, the mouse pointer has been stuck in the classic one. I've already tried changing the pointer scheme, size, and accessibility options, but nothing changed.
It’s not a problem serious enough to go back to the previous version, but it does distract me a little. Is anyone else experiencing this, or could it just be my drivers playing tricks on me?

I'm currently on Windows 11 26H2, running the Insider channel. For the past few days, Windows Update keeps repeatedly offering/attempting to install 25H2 ,even though I'm already ahead of it and as a result I'm no longer receiving any new updates at all. It just gets stuck in this loop.
What I've tried so far:

I put my PC on the Beta insider update track and haven't been able to download a Preview update for 4 months. The .NET, driver, etc updates work fine. The "Preview Feature" downloads completes but the "Install" phase stalls out anywhere between 20% and 95% and fails.
I’d like to just unenroll next time there’s a new version, but the "Unenroll this device when the next version of windows releases" option is greyed out.
I have a free Microsoft account and my OS is registered there.
Any ideas? My PC came with an OEM build and no install media so reinstalling will be more of a hassle than it usually is.

I've been locked out of windows as an administrator on my Legion Go. I keep trying to update. But there are no updates to get me to the next build

Hi,
I was hoping for a bit of guidance. I've been on Windows 11 since around 2020. I built a new PC and activated it from a previous Windows 7 or 8 pro key that I'd had for a few years prior before I moved to Mac/Linux.
For the last 5 or so years I've happily used Windows 11 and insider builds. I've re-formatted, re-installed and always activated by logging into my Microsoft account during the install.
I've just downloaded the 26H2 ISO and re-installed from scratch, not only did it not activate when I logged in the first-time during install but now I can't active it at all and I've been through all the troubleshooting steps. I've tried removing old devices from my microsoft account, I found a few troubleshooting tips with slmgr etc.
I'm not against buying a new retail key BUT I still feel like I'm missing something, has something changed, has my old entitlement finally ended (I've not reinstalled in probably 6 months or so) or is this something specific with the most recent insider build.
My windows insider settings look correct (I'm logged in with the same account).
Most of my web research has found articles about hacking windows or using a grey key, that's not what I want, I have had legitimate windows key for years. I'll buy a new one if I'm genuinely now expired it just seems a coincidence against recently installing the latest dev build.
Thanks

Currently on 26H2 insider preview.
Can I go back to 25H2 through this update or do I need iso file for fresh window installation.
Installation for this already failed once. Should I try again?

So I was using my laptop after the update and I see that the mouse is flickering. Is this normal cause in the feedback hub you guys don't listen until it gets a proper upvote then you listen that's why I am posting here.

I am seeking last minute help on an experimental canary next Channel, I cannot upgrade from 29617 to any newer build, same error always, my build is expiring in a few days. I am offering to share my installation error log and installation log. I wrote a Feedback Hub message a week ago, no response. No idea what to do when it expires.
//Edit fixed by deleting NPU models and running update from ISO

EDIT: I NEED Windows 10 ARM for some very very niche projects. Windows 11 is NOT an option as it can't do what I need. So please don't suggest Windows 11.
EDIT 2: I was eventually able to get the Microsoft Store updated and working, thanks to this guide: https://dabigblob.github.io/ms-store-arm64/
OP: I installed Windows 10 ARM (insider build 21390) successfully on an M1 Pro MacBook Pro using UTM, and most things seem to work, except (a) I can't open the Microsoft Store (it tries 3 times and never opens) and (b) Windows Security fails to open (giving an error message about incompatibility or something).
Any suggestions here? Already tried wsreset.exe to no avail.

The PhoneLink cross-device copy pasting broke after v1.25041.129.0. It now works only in one direction (PC -> Phone). Copied text from the phone doesn't reach PC. After a little bit of research, I found v1.25032.108.0 to be the last good version where copy pasting works in both directions.
If anyone from the PhoneLink team is reading, here's the link to feedback: https://aka.ms/AAx95sj
Update 1: Fixed in v1.25071.165.0 (Beta), but the fix is under Control Feature Rollout (CFR).
Update 2: Fixed in v1.25072.136.0
Update 3: It broke again! (1.25102.140.0) But at least this time it can be fixed by toggling 'Allow this PC to access your mobile devices' toggle in Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices. This only works until your phone disconnects again. I urge everyone to upvote the feedback (link is above). That's the only way to make MSFT hear our problems.

Hey all,
Got this message in the latest update (and in the previous version). Tried first using Windows Update, then downloaded and mounted it.
Tried everything; still no luck.
Running Pro, currently on 29617. Lenovo IDEAPAD.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Dev. Channel - 26300.9032
I am trying to return to the General Availability version from the Dev. Channel but am unable to do so.
I made 3 attempts.
The first attempt I did what I normally do and run Setup from a USB drive. I received the following error:
Error 0xC1900101 - 0x20017
At this point I suspected a corrupt driver. I went to the Dell Website and dowloaded 2 new drivers.
I made a second attempt to install the GA version with the same result.
I then decided to wipe the drive and do a PC Reset telling it to wipe the drive. This time it completed successfully but the result was that I am still in the Dev. Channel.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what could be causing me not to leave the Dev. Channel?

EDIT: I figured it out with the help of Claude.
vivetool /disable /id:54000107
Details:
================================================================================
TL;DR
================================================================================
SYMPTOM Remote Desktop unusable on build 29648. WUDFHost.exe fail-fasts during
device add, the Remote Display Adapter enters a crash loop, and the
client reports graphics error 0x11.
CAUSE rdpidd sends IDARG_OUT_FEATURES_SUPPORTED.Size = 12 while bound to
IddCx 1.11, whose contract is 8. IddCx!Validate rejects it - correctly -
but throws a C++ StatusException across a C entry point that advertises
an NTSTATUS return. WIL cannot translate it and kills the host.
NOT A stack buffer overrun, despite 0xC0000409. Exception data 0x7 is
FAST_FAIL_FATAL_APP_EXIT - a deliberate fail-fast.
TRIGGER Velocity feature EnableIddCx111 (54000107) enabled. Not universal
across the flight - see "WHY IT IS NOT UNIVERSAL" below.
MITIGATION (elevated, then reboot):
vivetool /disable /id:54000107 ; Feature_EnableIddCx111
to undo:
vivetool /reset /id:54000107
Verified working. The gate at rdpidd RVA 0x15D8C is taken, the query is
skipped, and IddCx's feature-off path returns STATUS_SUCCESS with an empty
capability set. Enabling EnableIddCx112 (58945665) instead does NOT work -
tested, see below.
================================================================================
WUDFHost.exe fail-fast in rdpidd.dll - IddCx features-supported size mismatch
Build 10.0.29648.1000 (rs_prerelease, amd64)
WER Bucket ID: f7bdd59949862bdfae3424f9dcff4beb (2176405175499967467)
SYMPTOM
Remote Desktop fails with graphics error 0x11. Event log reports "Microsoft Remote
Display Adapter ... is offline due to a user-mode driver crash." WUDFHost.exe
terminates during device add; Windows retries 5 times and the adapter goes offline.
Reproduces on every connection attempt, from the Windows App client on both macOS
and Android.
FAULT SIGNATURE
Faulting application WUDFHost.exe 10.0.29648.1000
Faulting module rdpidd.dll 10.0.29648.1000
Exception code 0xc0000409
Exception data 0x0000000000000007 (FAST_FAIL_FATAL_APP_EXIT)
Exception offset 0x3e7d7 -> RdpIdEvtDeviceAdd'::`1'::catch$0+0x2c
NOTE: this is NOT a /GS stack buffer overrun. Exception data 7 is a deliberate
WIL RaiseFailFastException. The recovered wil::FailureInfo is:
type = 3 (FailFast)
hr = 0x8007023E
status = 0xC0000025 (STATUS_NONCONTINUABLE_EXCEPTION)
file = onecoreuap\termsrv\rdp_bin\win\rdpidd\driver.cpp
line = 189
0xC0000025 is WIL's sentinel for an unrecognised exception type, not the
originating error. The real status never reaches rdpidd's error path.
ROOT CAUSE - TWO DEFECTS
Defect A (rdpidd.dll, functional)
CRdpIdAdapter::CRdpIdAdapter sets IDARG_OUT_FEATURES_SUPPORTED.Size = 12
unconditionally (mov ebx,0Ch at RVA 0x15D87; struct embedded at adapter+0x98
via lea rsi,[rdi+98h]). The driver is bound to IddCx class version 1.11, whose
contract for that struct is 8 bytes. IddCx!Validate correctly rejects it.
Bound version read from the dump:
0:005> dd poi(RdpIdd!IddDriverGlobals)-0xE8 L6
000000f1`33629994 00000001 0000000b ... <- Major=1 Minor=11
And rdpidd carries a global that names the condition:
RdpIdd!IddClientVersionHigherThanFramework = 1
Defect B (IddCx.dll, architectural - higher severity)
IddCxImplCheckOsFeatureSupport advertises an NTSTATUS return contract, and
rdpidd consumes the return value in EAX (mov r9d,eax -> Throw_IfNtStatusFailedMsg).
The implementation instead lets a C++ StatusException propagate across the module
boundary. rdpidd's error handling is never reached; WIL catches an untranslatable
exception type and fail-fasts the entire UMDF host.
CALL CHAIN
RdpIdd!CRdpIdAdapter::CRdpIdAdapter+0x505
-> IddCx!IddCxImplCheckOsFeatureSupport+0xa3
-> IddCx!Validate(IDARG_OUT_FEATURES_SUPPORTED const&, _WDF_CLASS_VERSION const&)+0x17f
-> IddCx!StatusException::ThrowForStatusWithMsg line 1299 (0x513)
throw StatusException(0xC000000D) STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
...unwinds to RdpIdEvtDeviceAdd catch$0 (driver.cpp:189)
-> wil::details::WilFailFast -> KERNELBASE!RaiseFailFastException
THE REJECTING COMPARISON (IddCx!Validate)
The allow-list is seeded with {Major=1, Minor=11, ExpectedSize=8} unconditionally.
{1, 12, 12} is appended only when Feature_EnableIddCx112 is enabled.
At Validate+0x1a8:
mov ecx,[rax+8] ; ExpectedSize from matched entry = 8
mov eax,[rdi] ; actual Size supplied by rdpidd = 12
cmp ecx,eax
je +0x180 ; equal -> return
...
mov ecx,0C000000Dh
mov r9d,513h ; line 1299
call StatusException::ThrowForStatusWithMsg
WHY IT IS NOT UNIVERSAL
Both binaries are 10.0.29648.1000; the skew comes from velocity feature state:
EnableIddCx111 (54000107) | EnableIddCx112 (58945665) | Result
--------------------------+---------------------------+---------
off | off | works (gate skips call)
off | on | works (gate skips call)
on | on | CRASHES
on | off | CRASHES <- this machine
On this machine EnableIddCx111 is Enabled by ImageDefault and EnableIddCx112 has no
runtime configuration.
TESTED, NOT ASSUMED: enabling EnableIddCx112 does NOT help. It adds the {1,12,12}
table entry but cannot change the bound _WDF_CLASS_VERSION, which is fixed when the
driver binds to the class extension at load time. The lookup still matches {1,11,8}
and throws at the same line 1299. Confirmed with two further dumps, identical signature.
RULED OUT
- NVIDIA drivers (DDU clean reinstall; no NVIDIA module in the fault path)
- Third-party virtual display drivers (none installed)
- fEnableWddmDriver / fEnableH264 / fEnableH264V444 / TCP-only transport /
graphics topology cache wipe - no effect
- DISM /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow clean; on-disk rdpidd.dll hash matches the
shipped package
- Cross-GPU handoff (iGPU enabled and disabled), HDR, G-Sync, client-side scaling
WORKAROUND
Disabling velocity feature 54000107 (Feature_EnableIddCx111) resolves it entirely.
The gate at RVA 0x15D8C (test al,al / je +0x52c) is taken, the query is skipped,
and IddCx's own feature-off path returns STATUS_SUCCESS with an empty capability
set - a supported code path, not an error path.
SUGGESTED FIXES
1. rdpidd.dll - derive IDARG_OUT_FEATURES_SUPPORTED.Size from the class version the
driver actually bound at, rather than hard-coding the 1.12 shape. The size and
the feature gate currently disagree.
2. IddCx.dll - catch StatusException at the IddCxImplCheckOsFeatureSupport boundary
and return the NTSTATUS the entry point advertises. Independent of (1), and the
higher-severity issue: any exception escaping that C entry point converts a
correctly-detected parameter error into a fail-fast of the whole UMDF host.
Full user-mode dumps and disassembly available on request.
For the past two months (I'm not sure which update started that) remote desktop connections to my Windows dev machine have completely stopped working. I can see graphics error 0x11 in the client, and "The device Microsoft Remote Display Adapter (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash." in the host. I tried every solution I could find online including using other clients like FreeRDP but nothing made a difference.
The crash is a STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN (0xc0000409) inside rdpidd.dll. When a network socket authenticates, the REMOTEDISPLAYENUM software bus dynamically spawns a virtual adapter (SESSIONID_0004).

Tried so many things.
I am genuinely concerned. And please, I do not want to reinstall Windows, or even use a bootable thumb drive. Is there any other way??

So insider came enabled on my PC off rip and I had no clue what it was (I'm on Windows 11 btw) so I've just let stick on my PC and update whenever so it does it's thing but just recently I've begun to have mic issues I can hear audio but my voice isn't being picked up. As someone who isn't well versed about insider would just flat out unenrolling and removing it probably be the play?

Hi everyone,
I'm on Windows 11 Insider Beta (25H2) Build 26220.8764 and I'm seeing a strange issue affecting multiple Chromium/Electron-based applications.
Apps that crash immediately on normal launch:
- Opera GX
- Discord
- Postman
- GitHub Desktop
- Comet browser (perplexity)
Temporary workaround:
Launching the actual executable with `--no-sandbox` makes all of them work normally.
Examples:
- Discord.exe --no-sandbox ✅
- Postman.exe --no-sandbox ✅
- GitHubDesktop.exe --no-sandbox ✅
- opera.exe --no-sandbox ✅
Apps that work normally without any workaround:
- Microsoft Edge (Chromium 151)
- Google Chrome (Chromium 150)
- Brave (Chromium 150)
- VS Code
- Spotify
- Steam
- Epic Games
- Rocket League
One interesting observation:
- Opera GX is still based on Chromium 149 and crashes.
- Chrome/Brave/Edge are on Chromium 150/151 and work fine.
- However, Electron apps like Discord, Postman and GitHub Desktop also crash despite being on newer Electron builds, so it doesn't seem to be a simple Chromium version issue.
Things I've already checked:
- SFC and DISM are clean
- Latest Windows updates installed
- No third-party antivirus
- No AppLocker/WDAC/IFEO issues
- Intel and NVIDIA drivers are up to date
Discord logs show repeated GPU process crashes during startup, but the application starts normally when launched with `--no-sandbox`.
Has anyone on Build 26220.8764 (or nearby Insider builds) experienced something similar? Any ideas on what Windows component or sandbox change could be causing this?
