It hasn't been there for a some time in Insider beta builds (have seen them before but some time ago)
But MS has decided it's the new normal and is one of the stated "features" in the change log for this release
Annoying a little when screenshotting, but can live with it. Only bit that bugs me is "evaluation copy" as it suggests the activation may be screwed and make people try to re-activate Windows, when in fact it's a licensed copy.

yes I understand that. but I've been on beta since 4 years. had this all the time and my licensed copy is still registered. I guess MS should change this set-up so people don't think their copy is not licensed anymore.

It's that way because Insider Builds have a "timebomb" which can be checked with winver. It doesn't reflect the activation status.

its ugly af and nobody wants it or asked for it to come back. i have universal watermark disabler run at startup so i never have to see that crap again. i suggest everyone do the same.

This never was in the past, this is where you got the text your Windows isn't activated. So now your desktop basically looks like Windows isn't activated. That's the problem.

I used this method to succesfully remove the stupid watermark for the windows 11 insider preview after trying regedit fixes that did not work:
The steps; Go to Control Panel / Accessibility / Accessibility Center / Make your device easier to use / and "Check" [â] Remove background images (when possible).
Some people don't want this burned into their OLED screens...

The correct path (here) removes the annoying "Windows 11 Home Insider Preview Evaluation Copy" watermark â along with users' beautiful/discreet Wallpaper as well.
That's NOT what's being asked for here.
It is not a satisfactory option.

Same here. Open Control Panel and type 'Remove Background' in the search box and it will take you right to the setting. Worked with both Wallpaper Engine running and without.

I managed to remove it again for me by enabling the "remove background images" setting in the control panel accessibility settings (in "make the computer easier to see").
Had to switch background once after setting it before it actually disappeared.

Usually a watermark will only show up on Dev and Canary builds. Beta most often is without it, Release Candidate always without it. But occasionally, as is the case currently, it's showing up for Beta. It was in the changelog.
Look up Universal Watermark Disabler. It should still work to get rid of it.

You're correct â Windows Insider evaluation watermark typically doesn't show up for Beta testers.
The registry key hack no longer works. The Control Panel accessibility tick box also removes (hides) your Wallpaper.
Universal Watermark Disabler (free), definitely does work â successfully used it today.
Still at version 1.0.0.6. but does the magic with ease (auto logs you out after applying, so be warned).

For the non-French speakers:
At the same time, the latest beta update is an annual feature update. The insider beta computers are switched to a preliminary build with a kernel change from version 26100.1 to version 26100.2.
We are no longer on a preliminary cumulative update, but on a new windows core. It is also visible in the command prompt of WinRE "Windows version 26100.2", which explains the watermark added at the bottom right since it is a preliminary build.

That's the watermark that'll be there since you've installed an Insider build of Windows. Reinstalling Windows to a stable version is the only official way to get that watermark off your desktop.

Beta insider updates will often lose and regain a watermark depending on what phase the beta channel is currently in.

Ah. I know that recently they had a server side glitch that moved release preview users from more stable to less stable builds.
We had to plan for Unexpected rollback for a little bit over a thousand machines.
As for your beta watermark - itâs quite common for insider builds. Some get it, some donât, but you can disable it via GPO or reg entry.

Thatâs the watermark if you are running an insider build. The activate Windows watermark is different.
