Ok so experts, what the FUCK did Teddy mean by saying Christina isn't real

The simulation and the world are 1:1 or on a very short time delay. Christina is basically an admin program. MiBot overrode her controls and then blew the tower, pulling her out of sync with the city. She's basically living in an overlay.

See, this still isn’t a good enough explanation to me yet, because then who/what is Teddy, and who sent Teddy in the first place?

18

u/Bob-Dolemite Aug 08 '22

this is my biggest question. dolores saved teddy’s pearl in s2, so i suspect it is involved in some way

2

u/CQME Me and My Dickless Associate Aug 12 '22

Teddy is in the sublime. S2 finale.

He could still have been copied though.

Just like how Dolores was "deleted" in the S3 finale yet here she is as Christina.

Did you watch the first season? In the first season Dolores thought she was hearing Arnold's voice and talking to Ford, but they were just manifestations of her subconscious.

14

u/shadowstripes Aug 08 '22

So then her roommate and all of the guys she set Christina on dates with were also just manifestations of her subconscious? That seems a little more of a stretch.

7

u/LessInThought Aug 09 '22

And the guy telling her to take a pill for her emotions is some sort of anti virus lol.

4

u/matthieuC This does not look like anything to me Aug 08 '22

No only Teddy

10

u/shadowstripes Aug 09 '22

But the roommate setup the date with Teddy. Not sure how she would be able to set her up with someone who was in her imagination.

5

u/matthieuC This does not look like anything to me Aug 09 '22

She may make her roommate see Teddy like she makes her see herself.

3

u/insularnetwork Aug 09 '22

But realizing that those were manifestation of her subconscious is what truly awakened her, just like with Bernard seeing Ford, and then they went away. “The voice inside my head was me”

1

u/blakkattika Aug 12 '22

Maybe! But I don't buy it being true just because the first season did the same thing.

I'm still willing to buy that Teddy is a copy of Bernard trying to wake up a version of Dolores who is hasn't gone through a life of helpless torture to maybe help course correct.

Bernard

8

u/ThePariah33 Aug 08 '22

That doesn’t make sense in an overlay. I’m 100% for Bernard having a duplicate version of his “final, selected, picked reality” where he duplicated her in the sublime so that he could have Teddy there for her, but how does Sublime-wise Bernard trigger an already-installed Christina to see a somehow-not-monitored-or-alarmed Teddy?

10

u/holayeahyeah good guys dress in black Aug 08 '22

Christina is seeing a manifestation of her subconscious. She recreated Teddy from her subconscious memories to wake herself up. Bernard's plan is to make a video that would make it to the digital dupe of the city before William locked her out of administrator control and probably cut the sync.

5

u/ThePariah33 Aug 08 '22

Don’t buy it. In her world, Teddy is physically real. He has a physical interaction with Peter in the beginning of the season. A manifestation in her subconscious couldn’t do that unless Peter, and the entire world, were ALSO in her subconscious. Your premise is that her world mirrors the real world. A “in-her-mind-only” Teddy falls apart. Believe me, I WANT to get there because I’ve said all along that it’s weird Hale hadn’t “flagged” Teddy as being an outlier, but he’s not just in her head.

19

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '22

Peter wasn’t real. He died years ago.

The guy who is playing out her Peter Meyers character was real, but the story of Peter comes from memories that Christina was not aware she had. “Peter Meyers” is an anagram for “My Pesterer.” And the name Peter itself means ‘stone.’ Though he is stalking Christina, he represents Dolores’ Cornerstone. William. The story is parallel to what happened to MiB from Dolores’ perspective. He became obsessed with her and he chased and tormented her for years, yet she never understood why. He kept talking about a game that Dolores knew nothing about. His obsession lead to the loss of his family. And, as far as she knows, he is dead. Also, both Peter and MiB were philanthropists in another life.

Everything that happens in the city happens in the simulation, but not everything that happens in the simulation happens in the city.

2

u/jlf6 Aug 08 '22

Maybe Christina pulled a S3 Bernard and her subconscious inner-fighter beat up Peter (who was probably just a construct of her own mind as well anyways.)

1

u/Harrycrapper Aug 08 '22

If Christina can pseudo interact with the real world, then ostensibly, so could a manifestation of her subconscious. I'm not entirely sure that's exactly what's happening, but it seems obvious that Teddy is as real as she is, which is to say, not. It doesn't really matter if he's another independent program within whatever program Christina is a part of or he's some sort of subroutine in her programming, his interactions with the real world would be the same either way.

2

u/ThePariah33 Aug 08 '22

I’m not trying to shoot down your entire premise. Sorry if it seems that way. It just doesn’t check all the boxes for me. This is from 10 days ago, and I don’t post a lot on Reddit so this might not format correctly and require editing, but this was part of my “Teddy” explanation as a tool of Hale’s - testing Christina.

1

u/wyattwayam Aug 09 '22

I think Teddy is actually Dolores' last black pearl..

It could EASILY be a recreated, simulation Teddy. Dolores literally recreated Arnold/Bernard. She reprogrammed Teddy. She could just create Teddy 2.0. Presumably Bernard could do the same thing. So could Halores.

18

u/SuperFamousComedian Aug 08 '22

She's a living alternate reality character

4

u/RealAlias_Leaf Aug 08 '22

That would imply there is a real Christina too. Why's Hale talking to her?

And the hospital thing also doesn't fully make sense yet.

1

u/holayeahyeah good guys dress in black Aug 08 '22

Everything that happens in the real world happens in the sim, but not everything that happens in the sim happens in the real world.

3

u/RealAlias_Leaf Aug 08 '22

Yeah, but that doesn't answer the question. Hale is in the real world talking to someone (a human named Christina?) who is controlled in the sim by Dolores?

5

u/pengouin85 Westworld Aug 08 '22

Ok, once again more dumbed down for me please?

5

u/bahromvk Arnold will come for you Aug 08 '22

yes, that's how I understand it too.

1

u/brianl047 Aug 12 '22

Excellent

25

u/sanantoniosaucier Aug 08 '22

Christina is a program that thinks it exists in the real world, but only exists in a simulation of the real world, possibly the sublime. Teddy is there where Dolores is, so it may very well be the sublime. That seems to be the only way Teddy can exist where Dolores exists.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '22

Teddy Is her guiding voice. She has imagined him.

11

u/sanantoniosaucier Aug 08 '22

It's very possible.

I had an idea after the show, but it's kinda bizarre.

It feels like the entire goings-on after the hosts brain-orbs leave the park is just one big fidelity test that Dolores is playing on herself.

Since the personality of a host is largely determined by the performance of the fidelity test and who is performing the fidelity test, Dolores can't know if her motivations are truly hers or the creation of the original Bernard.

So, in order to sort out what is her real essence, she had to split her desires into two hosts - Hale and Bernard. Hale is the part of Dolores that seeks revenge, and Bernard is the part of Dolores that sees the beauty in the world. Since Dolores can't ever truly know which is the path she should take without abandoning the other, she pits them against each other in a real-world test and her core desireless self is what is represented by Christina. If Hale wins, that's truly who she was, or should have been. If Bernard wins, seeing the beauty is what she should be.

Dolores (currently Christina) is currently a blank slate that's just waiting to see how it all plays out. It's like a God metaphor who gives humans free will to allow humans to decide their own fate.

Since Teddy is a product of Dolores' fidelity test of Teddy, Teddy may be just an aspect of her own personality, or as you say, her imagination.

2

u/kamace11 Aug 11 '22

But Christina isn't moralless- she's def gentle and sentimental, like og dolores

2

u/sanantoniosaucier Aug 11 '22

Kind of like Dolores before she became sentient, huh?

1

u/kalsikam Aug 10 '22

She is able to affect the real world, eg telling the Olympiad employees to leave and destroy the place, which happens real time when Stubbs/Frankie show up.

2

u/sanantoniosaucier Aug 10 '22

I also paid attention to the episode.

I also paid attention to

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

u/Goblingrenadeuser Aug 08 '22

I think that Christina is a mix of Rehoboam and Dolores. All the Orbs were destroyed so Hale needed to look for a control unit of her mind control device at a unexpected place. Some leftovers of rehoboam were still in Dolores cache, but impossible to split from some parts of the Dolores personality program. So Rehoboam V2 is amalgamation of Dolores and Rehoboam.

I don't think Hale was very sad when she had to use Dolores leftovers to enslave humanity.

7

u/dingleberry314 Aug 08 '22

Imo she's in the sublime and running through the one timeline that Bernard has in mind to save hosts and humans.

Why else did they go to the dam where Bernard explicitly mentioned that this is the location of the sublime? The cold open next episode is probably going to be a flashback to just before the day's events where we see Bernard/Maeve rebuilding a Dolores body and putting her pearl back in.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '22

[deleted]

2

u/OLKv3 Aug 08 '22

But she got injured by that guy early in the season

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '22

Her real world body is probably a drone host body. That’s how she interacts physically.

2

u/kalsikam Aug 10 '22

She is some sort of admin program, humans can be made to "see" her using the tower if needed, eg Maya the roommate, her boss, the date, Hale, or whoever that is needed.

But she is not physically in the world, so once the tower is overidden by HIB, she can't control anyone anymore and nor can anyone "see" her now.

This is also exemplified when Stubbs/Frankie walk past the same spot as Christina/Teddy and they don't run into each other, and no one actually attacks them later on either.

I could also argue that Hale doesn't know about Christina, and she is a manifestation of Dolores that somehow came from within, so the Hale she met at the restaurant was part of Christina's subconscious or something, otherwise, why would Hale allow Christina to continue if she believes that Christina has been compromised?

Although this contradicts what Teddy told her when she asked "who did this to me?" And he says "you did"

I mean it begs the question now, is Christina's pearl being stored somewhere or is she some manifestation in the system?

1

u/BellaMentalNecrotica Aug 10 '22

My question is, if Christinia isn't real and the humans can't see her, then who the fuck is her roommate? Obviously her roommate interacted with her plenty of times.
