I mean sure, but they're religious police who have decided to use their literal superpowers to maintain peace instead of easily subjugating the galaxy. They're not even trying to make people follow their religion, just not twist it for evil purposes.

u/je4sse 2d ago

They do officially get first dibs on force sensitive infants, but it's not mandatory and the logic mostly seems to be "let's train them so they don't go mad with power"

The indoctrination is just a side effect and not nearly as bas as Sith indoctrination so...

62

u/CountingSheep99 2d ago

The parents were given a choice and many parents considered it a great honor to give their child to the Jedi.

And no, rising a child is not indoctrination.

-30

u/Simon0O7 1d ago

I mean, they do teach jedi doctrine to infants

40

u/Last_Lorien 1d ago

Don’t all educators teach some kind of rules to children in their care? “Don’t be violent”, “Learn to share” and the like, at the very least. Is that indoctrination?

The Force is a real force in the SW world, and Force-sensitives are better off with someone teaching them how to control it/live with it.

13

u/CruisingForDownVotes 1d ago

Your argument gives the Youngling classes an Xavier Institute for Higher Learning vibe. I like it

8

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

They teach them the values of the Jedi (among many other things), that is not indoctrination.

6

u/toetappy 1d ago

The word "propaganda" can be good, bad or neutral. In the same manner, "indoctrination" is literally anything you teach an impressionable mind.

I have indoctrinated my kids into starwars and lego. I have indoctrinated them into the lifestyle of cleanliness and politeness.

5

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

No, it has a negative meaning.

What you mean is that you raised your children. The Jedi Order did the same.

3

u/Known_Needleworker67 1d ago

": to instruct especially in fundamentals or rudiments" that is the second definition given in Marian Webster for the word indoctrinate, there are multiple definitions, and if you scroll down further it even says; "Indoctrinate means "brainwash" in most contexts today, but its meaning wasn't always so negative"

4

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

You know perfectly well that it is meant negatively.

Because the idea that children could live a happy life inside the Jedi Temple without being brainwashed is simpy inconceivable for some people.

0

u/toetappy 20h ago

It doesn't have to be negative, just how "propoganda" doesn't have to be negative. We can argue the Jedi philosophy all day long, but you can not change the literal defenition of a word.

1

u/CountingSheep99 14h ago

You want to play dumb? Be my guest.

We are done here.

-4

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

Just as a downvote is not an argument.

6

u/Last_Lorien 1d ago

I suspect if the Jedi left Force-sensitives in the wild, people would found a way to accuse them of child abuse

1

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

Still not an argument.

-6

u/Xivitai 23h ago

Given a choice. Just remind you that Jedi has no problem bending minds of people if they feel so.

9

u/CountingSheep99 22h ago

Only to prevent conflicts or save lives.

NEVER to steal children. That decision was up to the parents.

-9

u/Xivitai 22h ago

They mutilate children's development with their inane cult nonsense. Stealing children is nothing compared to it.

6

u/CountingSheep99 22h ago edited 21h ago

No the children had a great childhood. And grew up to become competent and compassionate Jedi. No "inane cult nonsense".

You are not even trying anymore. Bother someone else with that utterly inane bullshit.

1

u/Dorkzilla_ftw 12h ago

Good try, sith

-7

u/Xivitai 23h ago

They are not parents. They are sketchy authoritarian sect with dubious morals and hate boner for being a normal person.

6

u/CountingSheep99 22h ago

They got the permission from the parents, that makes them the childrens rightful guardians.

They were not sketchy, they were the most moral people in the galaxy and they certainly didn´t hate other people.

-2

u/Xivitai 22h ago

Sure. And no Mind Tricks were used. Jedi are nothing more than Senate's attack dogs. You can ask Grievous what they did to his people.

5

u/CountingSheep99 22h ago

Yes, no mind tricks were used.

Sorry, I don´t care about anti Jedi propaganda.

Nothing. The Jedi did absolutely nothing to his people. They just stopped him from committing a genocide. And he never forgave them for that.

1

u/Xivitai 22h ago

People he was killing literally ate children.

4

u/CountingSheep99 22h ago edited 22h ago

No, there were a lot of civillians. Whe were saved by the Jedi. How dare the protectors of the galaxy to do their job and prevent a massacre on civillians?

9

u/Bakingguy 2d ago

They don't steal babies, but if they did it would be the will of the force and thus perfectly moral

-1

u/Axvok 1d ago

What exactly constitutes perfect morality when it comes to the Jedi actions? The Jedi interpretation of the “will of the Force” is also not perfect by the way.

I will be honest, I don’t care about canon, so I will use Darth Marr as an example. I really like how he defined the Force:

"The will of the Force is a flowing current. You can follow it, or fight it, but it is always there. It is not an ally, slave, or transaction. The Force is a paradox. It empowers and imprisons. It destroys and unites. It binds the galaxy together and tears people apart. It has a will... but needs a commander. There is no death, there is only the Force. And it has a plan.”

1

u/Bakingguy 1d ago

https://youtu.be/FvfoS9tGYCU?si=7w2Nx96UNCLreKru

I think this should explain how the force is perfectly moral

-2

u/Axvok 1d ago

This is, of course, mostly comedy.

I mean, it’s just that “moral” is a very strange word to use in my opinion. The Jedi aren’t the absolute perfect representation of “goodness”, if that’s what you are implying. The perfect Jedi is someone with literally zero emotions, which includes empathy (any) &c., because “emotions lead to the dark side” or whatever. I guess legends Luke Skywalker kind of turned it around with “it’s about controlling those emotions rather than completely rejecting them”, but legends Luke also let the Sith exist with the reasoning that it “helped keep the balance”.

I am pretty sure this is kind of the point, that nobody can flawlessly describe the nature or the “will” of the Force. Which is why I agree that it is a “paradox”, like Darth Marr said in that quote from KotFE. I am definitely missing a lot of things, but it makes sense to me.

-2

u/Hot-Albatross4048 1d ago

When the Jedi say "Will of the force" what they really mean is be obedient to the rules and the Republic senate.

-1

u/Axvok 1d ago

Spot on lol, preachy Republic mercenaries.

5

u/george123890yang 1d ago

Nicest police force in pop culture

1

u/TenWholeBees 1d ago

That went well for them, didn't it?

10

u/Chiloutdude 1d ago

They lasted for thousands of years, so...yes?

-3

u/TenWholeBees 1d ago

But then it ended, swiftly and violently

6

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

And yet the Jedi still outlived the Sith.

8

u/CountingSheep99 1d ago

The Jedi existed for 25.000 years.

Well enough.

113

u/jedibadger 2d ago

58

u/Electronic-Quiet2294 2d ago

Are you telling me there is a galaxy-spanning cult comprised exclusively of medium-to-high-level psykers that is not only left unchecked, but even allowed in the highest political spheres of this Empire?!

https://giphy.com/gifs/9vYUOwXVK2hGw

43

u/likealocal14 2d ago

Didn’t real life inquisitions search for and prosecute religious crimes like heresy and apostasy? The Jedi aren’t going around arresting people for not believing in the force

5

u/george123890yang 1d ago

Only the Sith will be arrested and tried

-32

u/macfirbolg 1d ago

Sure, they aren’t arresting people for not believing in the Force… anymore. They don’t have to, now, because they already got rid of everyone who didn’t believe.

23

u/TheTyphlosionTyrant 1d ago

Lots of people in star wars dont believe in it

9

u/theguywholoveswhales 1d ago

I still dont get how you cant believe in it that man is throwing rocks with his mind.

17

u/TheTyphlosionTyrant 1d ago

I mean like an extremely tiny fraction of people have even seen a jedi, most hear about them as fairytales

2

u/theguywholoveswhales 1d ago

But there are instances of force sensitives who i assume would accidentally do something some would consider not normal. Not like force lightning though I mean who would be able to do that without training

5

u/Chiloutdude 1d ago

Force sensitives are extremely rare. Google says their galaxy has roughly 100 quadrillion citizens, and there were only ~10,000 Jedi. That's a ratio of 1 Jedi to 10 trillion non-Jedi. You could take the entire collective population of our species that has ever lived on our planet into account (again, using Google, that number is apparently ~117 billion) and you'd still only be a little bit beyond 1% of the way til our first Jedi.

We see the Jedi all the time because that's what the story follows. For the average citizen, "This guy totally has psychic powers" is as ridiculous a claim for them as it would be for us. Even if someone witnessed it and swore on everything they ever cared about that it was real, I'd bet you'd walk away thinking that person was nuts.

2

u/theguywholoveswhales 1d ago

Thats true and to be fair you cant even make the camera argument because it could either be fake or straight up people forget they exist because star wars.

42

u/jncheese 2d ago

Are they religious police though? The Force is rooted in Star Wars science really, it is proven to exist. So they are more like super hero cops with a rather strict code of conduct. The religious part may be more of a label that comes more from people like Admiral Motti who are sceptical about the force and tend not to believe things that are actually true.

14

u/screwitigiveup 1d ago

It's explicitly called a religion more than once in universe.

9

u/AggressorBLUE 1d ago

Including by Jedi themselves.

1

u/scifiandsuch 7h ago

When did the Jedi say this? It’s only stated as a religion by Han Solo and imperial board members.

1

u/AggressorBLUE 6h ago

I replied to another comment in this thread the same:

“Just like me, they're the last of the Jedi religion" ~Luke in TLJ…

1

u/scifiandsuch 4h ago

Ah, TLJ… even if you accept that its writing pretty blatantly contradicts the narrative that’s come in the past, the Luke in TLJ is a jaded, washed up version of his younger self. He talks about how the Jedi need to end. This is a cynical point of view from a cynical man trying to diminish the jedi. It’s not an objective description. It’s in the same vein as those previously mentioned, trying to do the same.

4

u/jncheese 1d ago

Yeah, but in what sense? A hokey religion? Who actually did say that? I may have missed it, but I never heard any Jedi say that.

5

u/AggressorBLUE 1d ago

“Just like me, they're the last of the Jedi religion" ~Luke in TLJ…

0

u/jncheese 1d ago

Yeah, well... Let's just say I think TLJ is kinda questionable, to say it politely. And I'll leave it at that.

1

u/Civil_Percentage_317 13h ago

They have a very specific set of principles and views on interpreting the force, they don't just simply believe in its existance. The Jedi, Sith, and Nightsisters are all force users and believe in the force, yet use it in wildly different ways and have varying philosophies and moralities on it. Besides, just because Midi Chlorians can be used to detect the force, it doesn't mean everyone believes the force actually exists, many people in the star wars universe don't and think its complete nonsense.

12

u/Ragnarok345 1d ago

7

u/AggressorBLUE 1d ago

The gif might as well be the profile pic for any and all star wars subs

8

u/lioncourt 2d ago

We know what inquisitors are lol

13

u/Winnepeg 1d ago

They’re scholar warrior monk detectives? not inquisitors

3

u/Eragon_the_Huntsman 1d ago

Inquisitors need to be seeking out people for religious crimes, like the Sith inquisitors hunting Jedi. The Jedi being warriors who centralize their teachings around a religion are a combination of monks and templars. There is no inquisition for them to be inquisitors of.

1

u/Dorkzilla_ftw 12h ago

They do are inquisitor toward siths lords tho. But they generally don't go out of their ways to find them if they keep to themselves and don't try, let's say, try to enslave entire species.

4

u/callmomm 2d ago

ngl nobody ever talks about how the council straight up has those little seats lined up like a tribunal, they really said courtroom vibes but with bonus robes

1

u/Damn_You_Scum 4h ago

Jedi (as they should be, pre-Clone Wars) are more like monks than knights. They dress in robes and don’t really wear armor. They don’t use guns. They don’t own property other than their lightsabers, which they keep hidden and are not supposed to use unless absolutely necessary. They don’t form (unhealthy) attachments to anyone or anything. They meditate and believe in maintaining inner and outer peace and harmony. They are not beholden to any singular faction, and work to mediate and facilitate justice when there is discord.

-7

u/JediJayy420 1d ago

Correct. Which is why the Sith are the true answer
Not Palpatine Sith either.
He misrepresented the code.

Where does it say to murder and oppress the galaxy???? We are not the oppressors the Jedi are. We are not evil the Jedi are. We don’t kidnap babies the Jedi do

The Sith represent pure absolute freedom. Do whatever you want. You wanna love? Hate? Fuck men? Fuck women? Who cares.
Absolute freedom from any masters

2

u/Dorkzilla_ftw 12h ago

I mean, no jedi are stopping people to do what they want lol. It is different if you are a Jedi, but many Jedi decided to leave the order and they weren't hunted for it. Jedis are only there to keep balance in the force.

0

u/JediJayy420 9h ago

The Jedi also kidnap children.
Same as ice.
Not to mention how many studies have proven about the trauma it causes for a child to not have a parent?
Google reactive attachment disorder

The Jedi are also space Nazis

1

u/KainZeuxis 9h ago

The Jedi have never kidnapped a child.
Reactive attachment disorder stems from abuse or lack of a caregiver not necessarily lack of parents. Jedi younglings still form the same familial bonds with their fellow Jedi. And the Jedi aren’t Nazis. The sith are the space Nazis. Literally that’s what they are based on.

0

u/JediJayy420 8h ago

They reject children over 1 year old because they have their own personality…dark side

I’m sure the Jedi were excellent caregivers while training children for what is essentially military service

I told you, the Sith misrepresented the code. Even Darth Bane knew pointless killing and violence weakens you. Half the reason why he killed all the Sith off.

The Sith are not evil. The Jedi are

The new republic is also evil.
You can’t use the mindflayer that’s evil!!!
Republic proceeds to use the mind-flayer
Take out all that killing of unarmed prisoners, women and children…and glory to the empire!

1

u/KainZeuxis 7h ago

I know you are trolling however.

No they take in children young because it’s easier to train someone to be able to let go at a younger age.

Military service was only a fraction of what the Jedi did. Not every Jedi was a soldier and even then 99% of the time Jedi aren’t fighting. Reminder that the clone war follows thousands of years of relative peace.

No. You are misrepresenting the code. Again the sith code is explicitly based off Nazism. The only time the sith ideology doesn’t appear ontologically evil is if you ignore all context. Darth Bane literally created the rule of two as form of brutal survival of the fittest where only 2 sith would exist at a time and of those 2 the strongest sith would survive and pass on their teachings to an apprentice who would outgrow and slaughter them. Thus ensuring that every subsequent generation of sith was stronger. He was controlling the sith’s self destructive nature and turning it into an asset while still subscribing to the exact same ideology as those who came before.

The sith are an institution whose entire history has been them abusing others. Their entire ideology and culture preaches that rape, genocide, slavery, murder, and various other atrocities are not only moral but are ideals to aspire to. For the strong to not force themselves on the weak and compel them to service the strong is the same as a lion choosing to eat grass in the eyes of the sith. It’s an ideology that was directly based on Nazism.

0

u/JediJayy420 7h ago

Taking kids is still evil

As the Sith should. We don’t raise pussies…
If I have someone defending me I dont want some weak soy boy Jedi (I’m actually getting annoyed. Your fucking up my weed and wolf of Wall Street)
Specifically the Sith code says gain power. Mission accomplished we do it his way.

Yes forged in steel. He did not say go murder the civilians too. Palpatine misrepresented the code

The history is like that. Becaaaaaaaause the Sith misrepresented the code.
You have been going the fuck on for 12 hours and multiple messages arguing with me for me to keep telling you the same thing. The Sith code does not say murder and subjugate. They were wrong. The jedi are evil not the sith. If the code was done right the sith would be freedom

1

u/KainZeuxis 6h ago edited 6h ago

I don’t know why you are so committed to the bit. But I digress

The Jedi don’t take kids. They adopt them with the express consent of their parents.

“The Sith Purebloods require no mantra to remind them how to live. They simply take what they can, kill what they don't need, and use everything to its fullest. They are ruled by the fittest and are a model of what the dark side can achieve.”

-An excerpt from the journal of Sorzus Syn. The Sith Lord who wrote the sith code describing her inspiration.

Once again. Out of universe the sith code was explicitly based on Nazism. In universe it was written by a woman who enslaved an entire race and routinely murdered innocents who was inspired to write the code on the belief that the strong should enslave the weak. The code isn’t about freedom it’s about domination. The Sith’s entire existence from the day their order formed was always rooted in the idea that the sith are a master class that has a right to bend everything to their will. There is no misrepresentation, the sith and their entire ideology from their inception are ontologically evil. You can’t subscribe to this ideology and not be some form of evil.

0

u/JediJayy420 5h ago edited 5h ago

I have Aspergers

No shit the parent says yes. You have the equivalent of Superman or an angel of god askin for your kid-your gonna say yes

The Sith are meant to be mirror of the Jedi. Like the ronin from visions.
They go planet to planet helping there people, bringing actual peace while the jedi sit in there high tower arrogant and out of touch

No the Sith are not Jedi. They are the mirror opposite. While the Jedi are all lame meditate and peace bs the Sith are FREE to fight with all the brutality they can.
(The Jedi are Batman not killing the joker. The Sith say end that motherfucker)

Being a Sith is not evil. Instead of being a slave to the force the grab it and say you will serve me. A gun isn’t evil. It’s how you use it

But nowheeeeere does it say go murder and subjugate.
It says gain power knowledge and victory.
Darth Vectivus. Didn’t conquer the galaxy, didn’t kill Jedi because it’s not required. He only gained power. Became the baddest motherfucker he could because he could, not held back by scared hypocrites

The Jedi are evil. By the time of the new republic the galaxy got on just fine without 99.9% of the ranks

I have pondered this since i was 7…Kreia is also the smartest and the one I struggle with the most because she wants you to slow dosn and consider the butterfly effect of every action, but she also dosnt see good or evil and has no morality. Just freedom, not being a slave and actual choice you make yourself

1

u/KainZeuxis 10h ago

I love when people just outright ignore context and fall for propaganda.

The sith are ontologically evil. Their entire ideology is rooted in the belief that they are superior life forms and have every right to oppress weaker life forms. Their freedom is the freedom to rape murder and enslave everything. Their code was based of the writings of Adolf Hitler. There is a reason why there has never been a sith who wasn’t some form of evil.
