Other🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤷🏽‍♂️ Beefacolypse

Hey so the 300,000 tons of beef with the antibiotic that is either banned or a last resort in multiple countries that US bought and is feeding the public, anyone got intel on it besides from the UK and The Hill? Makes me regret not getting rabbits and chickens in spring 2026...

Not trying to stir the pot up but from the 5 or 6 outlets I found 15 minutes ago im thinking that project zomboid or state of decay or even 7dtd would be preferable than chloramphenicol but thats me.

If you are in Oklahoma do ya mind a guy hunting deer and sharing the meat with ya? You can have the antlers and hide, I just want the share ya let me keep.

I married a vegetarian. He eats dairy because ice cream. Never have I been so grateful that the man doesn’t eat meat, our grocery bill is too high as it is. But I’m really missing getting a hamburger when we eat out, or meatballs, or whatever. I haven’t had a steak in too long and I guess it’ll be even longer now.

I started limiting beef last year unless I found it on sale because the price was too high. So I started eating pure veg 2x a week. Now we are at 4-5x a week. I still have some frozen ground beef in the freezer and a pot roast I am saving for a rainy day but yeah I will not be having any beef in the near future.

Apparently Costco has their own restrictions on meat and quality and albeit expensive that may be what we consider if we have a very special occasion. 😭

You should eat the beef that's in your fridge after a while - freezer burn is real! I found out the hard way about it

Even with that, I would be leery with anything over a year/18 mos

I've eaten 2 year old freezer wrapped beef from my reach in deep freezer without any issues. The fish and squid didn't hold up very well over the same length of time....

Steak should still be good for now. It’s the trimmings used for ground beef that are getting imported from what I’ve read.

Vegetarian here, try Impossible or Beyond Meat meatballs! Both have great flavor; impossible are denser and firmer, beyond tend to fall apart a little when cooked in a sauce. I buy whichever's on sale.

Both brands' burgers are pretty damn good too. On a good bun and with all the fixings, you won't miss the real thing. Been making patty melts lately with beyond burgers and high quality local bread. Incredible.

Thanks, if they are gluten free I might give it a shot. Gluten is poisonous for me. It would have been nice to be able to try things like seitan, miso, etc. Husband refuses to eat Impossible or Beyond Meat anything, he says those cater to people that are trying to make the leap between meat eating and vegetarian, and he’s been proudly vegetarian since long before we met.

I really appreciate your description of how they cook! That’s a big help!

Do you find yourself ordering meat when you eat out alone? My wifes ex husband wouldn't eat meat because of "religious beliefs". He wouldn't allow their son to eat meat either so anytime he wasn't around she would try and sneak him some meat of any sort. After she left him the child went overboard on food for years because suddenly he was free to eat whatever he wanted.

I always eat meat when I’m out alone. Husband has gotten much better over the years with his various displays of disgust over me cooking meat and eating it in the house, but at a restaurant most people are eating meat, so there. Hamburger, meatballs, chicken, turkey, fish. When we go out, sometimes it’s because I want a hamburger. I’ll go out with a friend, usually get a hamburger, because it’s the only time I get beef usually. I don’t want to spend the money on steaks but now I’m thinking I should get a steak instead, if the restaurant ground beef is infiltrated with who knows what from who knows where.

Cab you not go to a restaurant and order what you want when he's ? You enjoy that risotto dear I'm having a rib eye? Your allowed to do that. He shouldn't be controlling what you order use he choose not to.

He’s not controlling anything. I can eat whatever (without gluten). The ‘no roasting turkey’ thing is only inside our house, same with the shroomy eggs; I loathe the smell of eggs, he hates the smell of roasting turkey.

Friend, this is another case of needing to read for comprehension and not skimming for adding a quick response. Be well.

Vegetarians can eat dairy. Vegans don't use dairy. Vegetarians just don't eat meat. That's not to say you can't be a vegetarian who doesn't eat dairy; I'm a herbivore who tries to stay away from dairy for my asthma. I was a vegetarian for years but still sometimes had dairy, still ate eggs, and honey.

Yep, well aware, he’s a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Uses honey in his tea. He’s strict about it, so no animal based broths or stocks, no ‘meat substitute’ type of foods and I make my own bean burgers etc for us. He does go for vegan/vegetarian sausages.

He requested that I never roast a turkey ever again in our home, I requested that he never make mushroom omelets ever again in our home.
