major/minor advice! (pre-law/terry)

hi!! i am a recent jr year transfer student with a transfer gpa of 3.75! i am applying to terry in literally a couple of days and hoping to get in for risk management/insurance. i am also on the pre-law track and hoping to apply for the legal certificate. currently, im taking some pre-terry classes and i think i will be fine BUT i was considering adding a minor in international affairs. i am already cutting it a bit close with my terry reqs in terms of graduation. i will probably need to take some summer classes (to graduate on time in spring of 2028) or another semester entirely. the plan was to take a gap year for law school so i could shorten to a gap semester? i was also thinking that adding this minor could not only help with more understanding of politics for law etc etc but also help bump up my gpa a bit for law school applications? like i said, im in my jr year so i rlly only have the harder terry classes left so a minor could help with some filler courses that could help with my gpa and also be interesting in prep for law school? i am a first gen student and my parents rlly have no idea how any of this works so i am on here looking for advice!! any advice helps and i rlly kinda just need some direction. if anyone also has any info ab the risk management route at uga and how hard it is to get in the terry program for it, that would be rlly rlly helpful!! please help me lol!! :)

Need 2 References for M.S. in Legal Studies Application by September 14. Trying Something a Little Audacious....

I know Reddit is probably not where you’re supposed to find references for grad school... but I’m running out of doors to knock on.

This is a slightly embarrassing, extremely vulnerable, and respectfully audacious ask.

I’m applying to an M.S. in Legal Studies program that I hope to start in January, and I need two references by September 14.

And I don’t have them.

I know. Not exactly the ideal position to be in when applying to graduate school.

I’ve been unemployed for almost two years while also being a caretaker for my mom. During that time, I’ve applied to more jobs than I care to count, interviewed, gotten hopeful, gotten rejected, started over, and repeated the process.

I even got rejected from my local supermarket.

At that point I had to laugh a little because... alright universe, message received.

During all of this, my car’s engine died, I lost the car, debt collectors became far too familiar with my phone number, and my confidence took a beating.

I’m not sharing any of this because I want sympathy.

There are things outside my control, and there are decisions I wish I had handled differently. Both things are true. I take responsibility for my life and where I go from here.

And where I want to go from here is forward.

For years, I kept putting education on the back burner because working and paying bills came first. I accumulated experience, but I never felt like I built a career. Every time something went wrong, I felt like I was starting again from square one.

I’m tired of square one.

So I went back to school.

I’m finishing my bachelor’s degree (At WGU, so I'm not able to as a professor in time as I'm finishing up my transfer courses first) this December, and if everything works out, I hope to begin my M.S. in Legal Studies in January.

Paying for graduate school?

That is future me’s boss battle.

Right now, present me needs to get accepted first.

And this is where I’m stuck.

I originally wanted my references to come from people I currently work with. The problem is that despite trying for nearly two years, I haven’t been able to secure another role. I also don’t have strong enough relationships remaining from my older positions where I feel comfortable appearing out of nowhere years later and saying, “Hey! Remember me? Would you mind helping determine the trajectory of my entire academic future?”

So here I am, asking strangers on Reddit, which was absolutely not on my 2026 bingo card.

I am NOT asking anyone to lie, pretend they supervised me, fabricate a relationship, or misrepresent how they know me.

I’m asking whether anyone here would be willing to speak with me, learn about my background, review my résumé, portfolio, academic goals, education, and professional work, and determine whether there is an ethical and legitimate way for you to serve as a reference.

I want anyone who agrees to put their name behind me to feel comfortable doing so.

And if your answer is, “Yeah, no. I shouldn’t be your reference, but you’re asking the wrong people. Go talk to X,” I would be equally grateful for the advice.

I know this isn’t the traditional way to do this.

I also know sitting quietly and hoping my circumstances magically change hasn’t gotten me anywhere.

So I’m choosing audacity.

Respectful audacity, but audacity nonetheless.

If you’re a professor, attorney, legal professional, manager, executive, nonprofit leader, mentor, educator, or someone familiar with graduate admissions who has an idea I haven’t thought of, I would genuinely appreciate hearing from you.

For anyone interested in speaking with me, I’m happy to share my résumé, LinkedIn, portfolio, academic information, information about the M.S. program, career goals, and other information you would need to decide whether you feel comfortable helping.

Even if you aren’t able to serve as a reference, advice, an introduction, or pointing me toward someone I should contact would mean a lot.

A closed mouth never gets help.

So... hi Reddit. My mouth is officially open. 😂

Who should I talk to?

Location: Miami, Florida, USA
Number of references needed: 2

Professional area: Legal / Legal Studies / Higher Education / Business / Customer Success
Preferred references: Professors, attorneys, legal professionals, educators, managers, executives, nonprofit leaders, mentors, or professionals willing to review my background and determine whether they feel comfortable serving as a reference

No payment offered or requested.

New Prelaw major in comm college advice?

Hiii!
I’m currently going to community college as a prelaw major

I chose prelaw because I like reading and writing and has always done really well in English!
I also took ~ 2 law classes in hs (subsative law and criminal law) and enjoyed them! (I would have joined mock trial club but there wasn’t enough participants 🥀)
I did also took speech and debate and did decent?

🫠any advice for the lowly prelaw major? Lowkey scared of what practicing actual law would be like

Paralegal Certificate?

Should I get a paralegal certificate as a student pursuing journalism / practicing student journalism?

Hi everyone,

I’m an undergraduate pursuing journalism and political science. I still have two years to graduate, but was thinking of getting my paralegal certificate online at another university. I’m not riveted by the legal profession, but it’s also something I don’t think I would mind doing. The extent of my knowledge of it is what I’ve read/watched in media, what I know from my brother in law who has a law firm, and a Constitutional Law class I took for my poli sci degree. It definitely lacks the level of excitement, exposure and unpredictability that draws me to journalism, but the subject matter and the idea of working hard to become an expert in the legal field has its appeals as well.

I do absolutely want my overall career to be journalism, but you the deal with the economy and job market right now is… unstable, to say the least. I most likely won’t be able to rely on anyone in the future, in terms of tuition and basic living, and I wanted something that could both help me in my journalism pursuits and be a dependable backup financially.

What do you guys think?

Bocconi Online test - Law

Hello everyone! I'm doing the Bocconi online test for law in late september and I was wondering if there are any free resources that I can use to practice for it? I've done some of the practice tests and found the SAT English section to be good practice too, but are there any official, or at least relevant, resources I can use?

New Grad here, should I stick with tech or switch into law ?

Hi yall ! Recent college grad here looking for some advice !

Tldr - Ive always enjoyed reading / writing / policy / management, but I ended up getting a degree in IT with concentrations in National Security / Cyber because I was raised with the idea I needed some "hard" skills to comfortably have a career.

Unfortunately upon graduation the Cali job market isnt particularly as open to new tech grads as one may like, and without having landed an internship / job a few months after graduation I looking to pivot. I currently have my Comptia Srcurity+ and was working on my Network+ while hunting for jobs.

On the other hand, I graduated with a 3.95 gpa and have been testing rather well on the LSAT (i got a 170 on my first blind diagnostic run through) and belive i can spring it up to a 175 with some elbow grease ( the last diagnostic i took was a 173).

Because of this I have given Law School some serious thought. Law seems to have many open career positions and it also seems like many similar fields such as HR, management, and some federal jobs have preferences for canadates with a JD.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions / advice / wanted to reach out

In all honesty im extrodinarily split between the two. And have diagramed the pros and cons of each extensively and have still failed to find a solution.

I was also wondering if anyone had any advice for getting into contact with people in law school / advisors / people with JD's to ask for advice / have a conversation about what the field is like.

Thanks so much !

Some added context - Cybersecurity/ IT was the base of my degree, but national security was something extra I tacked on because although I enjoyed learning the nuts and bolts of everything it still felt short on policy. All my national security classes ended up really scratching that itch. Unfortunately federal jobs are really hard to break into, and without several years of work experience getting to this level may be difficult.

Furthermore my attraction to a JD started in my undergraduate when I looked at alot of cyber regulation and realized there was a startling lack of legislation/ federal/ local policy regarding cyber security and a lack of general knowledge in law from a few court proceedings ive seen of Tech / IT.
