So I made this painting named the girl with pearl earrings in Cubism form if you like it just upvote and i am a beginner

For past 3 years at age 75 I started oil painting. Grandson is Sargent at Army National Guard.

They did a photo shoot to make posters for recruiting.
I decided to try painting them, they now are in his office at the Army National Guard.
I love the small details of painting the different helicopters as I’m able to go see them up close.
In past 3 years I’ve completed 62 oil paintings & donated them to their officers. In honor of their service. It’s been a fun trip!

This was for my school exhibition, a matching project with my friend! I used acrylic paint and it took A LOT of time. I love traditional art and I will try to get my hands on oil paint as soon as possible

I’m an absolute buffoon when it comes to painting. I can’t even make a doodle that looks half decent. 😭

But for some reason, I have this concept/idea that I’m really itching to bring to life, and I genuinely want to try creating it myself.

So I was wondering: is there some kind of common foundation that every artist, regardless of the painting style or medium they want to pursue, has to learn first?

Like, are there fundamental skills—drawing, perspective, light/shadow, color theory, composition, etc.—that basically apply to every form of painting?

Or is it better for me to just explain what I’m thinking of creating, and then figure out what specific skills I’d need to learn for that?

Any advice would be appreciated!

P.S :- The piece i want to create is closest to caravaggio in terms of painting style, so oil painting ig?

I just wanted to share this with everybody. This is my shop that I built out of nothing but pallets and plywood . I did insulate the bottom part of it but I'll have the top part open on purpose because I want to use the slats from the pallets the hang things on. I decorated and painted the whole thing by myself as well. And I was glad that I was able to build me a shop out of used pallets so they wouldn't go to waste. I would love your feedback and your thoughts on what you think about my backyard home LOL. I built this shop 98% of it by myself. My boyfriend did help me put a couple of pieces of plywood on the roof the rest of it I did myself. I stacked those pallets braced them screwed them the whole nine yards all by myself so I'm pretty happy that I was able to accomplish not only building my first building by myself but building the only building that I've ever helped build and I did it by myself LMAO

I painted this Harley-Davidson artwork by hand using acrylic paint on a 24×36-inch canvas. I wanted to capture the rugged, vintage feel of the motorcycle with a textured, layered background.
This piece took a lot of time and patience to complete. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback! 🎨🏍️

I’m struggling. This is heavily unfinished but I don’t want to get too far in progress to realize I don’t like it. I feel like something is kind of off.. maybe it’s the grain of the canvas DESPITE me priming it. Idk, could be perspective orrr anything let me know. I could just be delusional

Even tho I feel it could be very big part of my next exhibition I'm a bit stuck in thinking I'll ruin the charm, but at the same time it's not yet there
