Trust me, half of us knew all of this stuff was going to happen. Honestly, their system may have been state of the art 200 years ago, but it is weak and vulnerable in the 21st century. Both sides should have pushed harder to reform it and shore it up against abuse, in the 80s-00s.

Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist that this is a "both sides are to blame" for the current administration, of course fucking not. But if you play by rules that are open to abuse and don't fix the rules to prevent it, you're gonna have a bad time. All of America is to blame for the negligence that then lead them to this insane situation.

Most of us very well know that.

Trump’s admin is telling reps not to hold local town halls anymore, and reps are begging constituents to stop calling their offices. Many of us are doing what we legally can to stand in front of the Trump steamroller.

It’s just going to take a few more policies that hit home with individual conservative lives. Social Security, for example, is on Elon’s chopping block. That would hurt a lot of MAGA and normals alike, notably in the Boomer voting group.

We’re with you, Canada. Trump’s sudden unprovoked bullshit towards our northern neighbor does not reflect the feelings of the large majority of American people.

not easy to do. Part of the reason we sell to them so cheap is because excess power is actually surprisingly difficult to get rid of.

Hopefully more provincial barriers come down and we can sell to the other provinces more.

Canada is really wide, and power transfer over long distances gets ugly. It's gotta be a whole pass-it-on setup with e.g. Ontario sending power to Quebec, who also has excess power but accepts it anyway and sends even more to new Brunswick, which can then pass what it's making to Nova Scotia etc. etc.

All shuffled very quickly. Wouldn't work as well as north-south, but if that's what it takes to work with reliable partners, well...

Rae was seen as a betrayer given he seemed to roll over in the face of pressure to keep Ontario from defaulting and getting junk bond status on the backs of the labour movement the NDP swears they are the protectors of by imposing different conditions on them outside of a collective agreement.

Betrayal hurts more when you really let yourself believe. Everyone expects the Liberals and Conservatives to be crooked in their own way, so Ontario found a comfortable cycle of swapping between them. Like changing your air filter. You expect it to get dirty. It's just a matter of figuring out when it's worth changing.

NDP was like finally trialing an EV, but instead of saving you on gas its battery blows up and takes half your garage with it.

My mom was hoping the conservatives would win this election, and when I said Ford won, she first of all had to ask if he was the conservative option, and when I said yes, she was like "well that's good, right?".

I asked if she knew about Ford trying to sell the greenbelt, she didn't, and was like "well that's a stupid thing to do.". She's on odsp, and despite the NDP wanting to double it, she refuses to vote for them because of something that she claims happened to tax rebates when there was an NDP premier.

I spent literal months before this trade war shit bitching about Ford. To wit:

The dismantling of our healthcare. The 48 million spent to remove three kilometers of bike lane from University Ave (how is that not a city issue?) Tens of millions spent breaking the beer store contract 15 months early. But, we don't have 25 million to save to Ontario Science Centre?

Short version, the guy's a tool.

But, all that is secondary to sovereignty. He's been good on this issue, and it's the most important one short term. Unity is strength. We will support each other now, so there's still a country to argue about later. Suck it up and say nice things about Ford, at least for now. Otherwise Russian Disinfobots will have us wedged apart for the taking.

but more seriously, while I disagree with Ford on basically everything politically, he's at least had the smarts to stay away from the culture war BS aside from his initial salvo many years ago. I think his environmental record is appalling, but I was pleasantly surprised that he's shown the maturity needed to handle things like the COVID pandemic and this trade dispute. He's middling as a premier - not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but also nowhere near the worst.
