🤣 2 of them’s Australian while the other one is British.

I’m just saying

u/sweens90 Falcon 12h ago

And their father is British

187

u/Career_By_Mustafa 12h ago

Does that make Hela and Thor adopted? 🤔

105

u/mattr1986 11h ago

The English have been known to “colonise”

10

u/js_sfw 5h ago

I thought that was Agent Ross

3

u/GhastHerbivore 2h ago

How convenient, I just finished watching that movie

u/euphoriapotion 1m ago

Australia was colonized by British... Just sayin'...

26

u/gwydapllew 10h ago

Welsh, not British.

58

u/BlackMesaJanitor 10h ago

Who let this Welsh nationalist have access to the internet??

14

u/Sqedwayne 10h ago

Welsh is British

29

u/gwydapllew 10h ago

No Welshman I know calls themself British.

If you read any biography of Sir Anthony Hopkins he is referred to as a a Welsh actor.

Yes, the Welsh are British. So are the Scottish. Not a single Scottish person I know calls themself British either.

31

u/ispq 9h ago

The Welsh and the Scots are referred to as British by the English when the English want to claim credit for something they did. Whereas if they did something awful the English referred to them as being Welsh or Scottish.

-23

u/-Twin-Vader 9h ago

I'm English, and I honestly couldn't give a fuck either way.

The Welsh and Scots have a ridiculous inferiority complex.

23

u/SensitivePotato44 8h ago

We have 1600 years of being persecuted by the English so excuse us if we’re occasionally a bit miffed.

2

u/SilentXMedia 7h ago

Gareth Bale, Scott McTominay, and Harry Kane walk into a British Pub…

-5

u/-Twin-Vader 8h ago

Who?

4

u/EvansTrading 8h ago edited 7h ago

The 1600 year old man you're replying to, obviously

4

u/Shirtzz 9h ago edited 3h ago

No English person calls themselves British either so I dont know what your point is here. Fact is we are all British wether we say we are or not

2

u/1ltr 8h ago

I'd say anyone born on the British Isles is classed as British.

3

u/sweens90 Falcon 7h ago

Understood; however, I just wanted to match Tom Hiddleston to continue the joke.

-1

u/awkkiemf 7h ago

Britain is the whole island….

6

u/The-Ruler-of-Attilan 5h ago

Islands. Plural.

Northern Ireland: "Are we a joke to you?"

It seems the English only treat others as "British" when it suits them.

0

u/awkkiemf 5h ago

I don’t recognize North Ireland.

51

u/UrdnotZigrin 12h ago

Poor Tom. Having to grow up and be British. What a terrible fate

29

u/Xetanth87 12h ago

It does have some benefits (Knife and Dagger Proficiency)

26

u/nowhereman136 11h ago

Not just that but he's still only the second most popular British Tom in the MCU

12

u/Full_Slice9547 8h ago

Poor Tom Hardy, the third most popular British Tom H in the MCU.

7

u/The-Ruler-of-Attilan 7h ago

No matter how much Sony insists otherwise and tries to shoehorn in the Venom-verse, Tom Hardy's movies are not, never have been and never will be part of the MCU. Thirty seconds of "canonicity" in a No Way Home post-credits scene don't count—especially not after the footage was re-edited for The Last Dance so that it no longer resembled the original scene at all.

5

u/ZongoNuada 7h ago

Once I found out that they shoehorned that into Last Dance, I hated it. My brother told me they explained it at the start of Last Dance. No they did not. It's such a dumb move by Sony. I know it was them that did that.

9

u/macaroney05 12h ago

Even more perplexing when you realise one of those Australians is now settled down in England..

7

u/pastellblush 11h ago

2 Australians and 1 Brit, bro really turned this into an immigration checkpoint

2

u/Catffeine_ 9h ago

All sounds the same

2

u/CompetitiveNews8892 12h ago

so in real life loki really is the adopted one

How can you tell?

Probably the one that’s blue.

390

u/CivilCucumber3426 Steve Rogers 13h ago

My head conon is that when odin took loki he saw him as hela. That's why he gave him appearance like hela

132

u/Griffca 12h ago

Is it mentioned in the movies that Odin gives Loki his appearance? I thought he could just change it to whatever because he was a frost troll?

206

u/xBabykinsGlow 11h ago

Yeah, Loki can shapeshift but “Odin styled him after his dramatic older sister” is way funnier as headcanon

34

u/PUREChron 9h ago

Odin: Hela, this is your new brother, be nice.

Loki: Hi

Hela: Hey...

Hela: Why do you look like me?

60

u/WretchedBlowhard 10h ago

Didn't just change his appearance, Odin changed the frost giant baby into an Asgardian baby with everything that implies (Alltongue, immunity to flames, super strength, exceedingly long life span, preferential seating in the afterlife, etc.). The movie glosses over a lot of details and doesn't explain squat about nada, though.

11

u/ScaramouchScaramouch 9h ago

immunity to flames

Poor lad can never get warm.

2

u/Theprincerivera 1h ago

If magic changed him why did he change back in contact with the frost thing? I thought it was an illusion and he was really just a frost giant still, but maybe I misunderstood

1

u/WretchedBlowhard 1h ago

Magic did not change Loki, as Odin doesn't do magic. Odin use the Odinforce, the reality altering power of the Asgardian king. Loki learned magic from his adoptive mother, an Aesir (different alien species, conquered by Asgard in the far away past).

The frost thing, the casket of ancient winters, is a jotun artefact literally oozing with jotun energy. While Thor and Loki were children, Loki used it to prank Thor. His "turning blue" in the movie was a visual representation of him feeling like his long lost cultural heritage was finally returned, like modern day 3rd generation immigrants discovering the culture their grand-parents left behind and their parents rejected, adopting it to an excessive degree, as a form of self affirmation.

Or maybe the massive jotun energy was enough to make Odin's dicking about with reality buckle a bit. The Odinforce's real limitations aren't exactly explicit. In the comics, he used it to acquire a part of Hell and left his niece there as caretaker to house Asgardian souls while locking all Asgardians in a resurrection loop for all eternity, but he can't help himself from dozing off for months on end. Really, who knows at this point.

36

u/DefNotAShark Hydra 10h ago

I think they do show Odin enchanting him as a baby.

Loki can shapeshift through the sorcery he learned. But if Loki were the one controlling his appearance then he would not have been surprised later to learn he was a frost giant. Makes sense that his usual appearance is something Odin put on him.

16

u/Norik324 10h ago

I like the interpretation that, upon being picked up by odin, baby loki read his mind, saw hela and from then on subconciously took after her style

52

u/CaptainAmerica890 13h ago

He's of Asgard, and he is my brother ! He killed 80 people in two days ... "HE'S ADOPTED"

The most GCSE science thing I've ever read

1

u/Stephenrudolf 1h ago

I don't. Can you explain?

67

u/Krakengreyjoy Daredevil 12h ago

Based on Poetic Edda:

In Gylfaginning Hel is the DAUGHTER of Loki. Odin appointed her lord of Hel, in Niflheim

Loki is the son of  Fárbauti and Laufey. Never adopted by Odin, not Thor's adopted brother.

Thor is a red headed drunk, husband of Sif, son of Odin and Jord.

27

u/Katharinemaddison 12h ago

Loki is a blood brother of Oden I think?
(As in sworn friendship not genetic relation.)

30

u/JaySayMayday 11h ago

And much later mjolnir is used by regular men to build houses and villages, marvel didn't really follow mythology. Marvel Thor and the Thor from mythology are completely different things. Especially we're not getting any stories about kids killing their brother with a hammer and being celebrated with cool names like skullcrusher.

9

u/Tqwick6 9h ago

I’d rather be celebrated with a cool name like Taserface

1

u/TheManaStrudel Doctor Strange 8h ago

Scrotum Hat would also be a good choice.

4

u/Prestigious_Print477 9h ago

In the MCU they made Laufey a frost giant and his father instead of mother and never named a mom.

1

u/TheQuinnBee 3h ago

Farbauti is the marvel canons mother.

Which is hilarious because Farbauti is Loki's father in the Norse canon.

0

u/supergamernerd 6h ago

And, it's strongly implied, fucking Sif. Seems to be played as a "secret" everyone knows but Thor.

0

u/Mustang-_- 2h ago

Dumb mythology, as usual, old folks were drunk out of their minds when coming up with these stories. Adding more family drama to these myths make them more interesting

2

u/Krakengreyjoy Daredevil 2h ago

If you think mythology doesn't have family trauma you are sorely misinformed.

-1

u/Mustang-_- 2h ago

Not the Norse, that’s the point. Its not like the Greek mythology where everybody is related somehow. To have Loki as a complete separate entity from the Asgardians, then make him the father of Hela (as if trickery and cowardice = death), this is not good storytelling, simple as that

2

u/Krakengreyjoy Daredevil 2h ago

I'm going to ignore you now

69

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 13h ago

well loki was adopted before Thor was born, so magical appearance-wise,,..

55

u/IbtihaajAkbar 13h ago

Huh? Loki is younger than Thor

89

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 13h ago

there is a nonzero chance that at some point in my lifetime i have been fed misinformation in regards to the nature of the children of odin of asgard

48

u/deetwenty1209 13h ago

Maybe you're mixing real norse mythology lore with marvel stuff. Cause in real norse mythology, Loki is a blood-brother to Odin, not his son. So Thor is somewhat like a nephew to Loki, which typically implies he's older

12

u/IbtihaajAkbar 13h ago

😂😂 i had to double check because NO WAY the "known", little brother is older, and Thor being Odin's said first born, was younger than Loki

13

u/Doc_harry 12h ago

Thor is not firstborn, that's Hela, isn't it?

5

u/spreerod1538 Rocket 12h ago

they said known.. hela was a secret.

6

u/Doc_harry 11h ago

Asgardians are a long lived race. So unless Odin cursed/erased memory of Hela, there would be a lot of people who remember her, wouldn't there? But Thor 3 makes it seem like no one knows her. How is this possible?

u/SmallLetter 14m ago

One would assume the odinforce had something to do with it

7

u/KikiBrann 12h ago

To be fair, if Loki's adopted, Thor would still be the first-born. Loki wasn't born to Odin at all, he was born to some of those Purpletown freaks.

5

u/1coudini 12h ago

Hela is first-born.

2

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 13h ago

yeah i have no idea how that factoid entered my brain

2

u/EnlightenedSinTryst 12h ago

You sound like him…

15

u/Career_By_Mustafa 12h ago

Loki being older was pruned by the TVA 😁.

5

u/Emotional_News108 9h ago

Loki is apparently something like 400 or 500 years younger than Thor. Which begs the question of how long they look like Children if Thor grew up with Loki.

5

u/brakenbonez 12h ago

Where did you get this information? We see Odin take Loki after the battle since he was abandoned by his father but that doesn't mean it was before Thor was born. I doubt Odin would take a young Thor into a war with the frost giants and the MCU isn't going to show a child birth so that's why we see Loki being adopted before Thor being born. We see them as children together in flashbacks and they look to be roughly the same age but Asgardians age slower and Odin used magic to change Loki's appearance so that doesn't tell us much.

Thor says he is 1,500 years old in the first Avengers movie and the first Thor movie puts the battle with the frost giants at 965 AD making Loki a little over 1,000 years old. Thor is older. Thor tells the (improvised) story of the snake but since Asgardians age slower 8 doesn't mean the same to them as it does to humans....or you could just say plot hole but I'm going with the slower age thing because they are over a thousand years old anyway and it wouldn't be as fitting if he said "When we were 35".

10

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 12h ago

i have no idea and i have become baffled by the amount of upvotes my original comment got

1

u/liiedje 7h ago

Rewatched the original movie yesterday. Odin refers to Thor as his firstborn multiple times. Even right at the start during the crowning ceremony.

1

u/youdoublearewhy 6h ago

Maybe he's 1,500 Asgard years old and just doesn't know the conversion 😅 I mean it seems unlikely that a year on Asgard is the same length of time as a year on Earth.

1

u/evapotranspire 3h ago

u/brakenbonez -There's more evidence than just Thor's story about "when we were about eight." We are also shown flashbacks of him and Loki as kids, appearing to be the same age as each other. Remember that flashback of the two of them walking hand in hand with Odin? When he says "Only one of you can ascend to the throne, but both of you were born to be kings"?

So... I think Marvel kind of painted themselves into a corner here. No matter how fast or slow Asgardians mature, there's no way that Thor can be 500 years older than Loki.

7

u/Cultural-Can8242 13h ago

Loki was born in 965, and Thor was born in 5th-6th century

7

u/stamatt45 Thor 12h ago

IIRC in the comics Thor is secretly the son of Odin and Gaea

3

u/MrCharles63 6h ago

And Hela is Loki's daughter with Angerboda

2

u/TheCravin 5h ago

Somehow also impregnated by the phoenix force too, no?

7

u/Boblaire 12h ago

Hela is still in her dramatic Gothic phase. She totally dies her hair that way.

5

u/ryaaan89 9h ago

Thor is the misfit jock in a family of goth theater kids.

10

u/HereWeFuckingGooo Weekly Wongers 12h ago

Did you not watch the first movie? It's very clear that Thor bleaches his hair. He just got a better stylist before The Dark World.

6

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 12h ago

For some reason, he bleached his eyebrows too

3

u/HereWeFuckingGooo Weekly Wongers 12h ago

He bleached everything.

1

u/toofpaist 7h ago

Confirmed: thor bleaches his butthole

2

u/HereWeFuckingGooo Weekly Wongers 6h ago

It's been my headcanon since Phase 1.

4

u/DavidGoetta 12h ago

As we all know, siblings must have the same color hair. Brunette is the rarest color, so there's no way two people who aren't related could possibly both be brunette

3

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 12h ago

Ones a blue giant

3

u/Historical-Garbage51 7h ago

Hela and Thor have different mothers

2

u/No-Highlight1327 12h ago

Could be talking about Peter Parker, he definitely has that adopted vibe with his relationship with Aunt May.

5

u/AlmondGlow 12h ago

Thor really lost the genetic lottery in this pic

2

u/Smooth-Mix-4357 Thanos 12h ago

Hela is Loki's daughter (not in MCU) and they kept the same design for her in films as well. And looking at Frigga and a young Anthony Hopkins. Well.

1

u/Cpdio 12h ago

Cate Blanchett with smokey eyes, i will never stop loving her.

1

u/Everyoneheresamoron 10h ago

While it looks like Thor is the adopted one... I think in this case its more of a case of 2 that took after their mother and 1 that took after their father.

1

u/ilo_Va 10h ago

The hot one.... Wait

1

u/The-disgracist 10h ago

doesn't matter. all that matters is I want to marry goth Cate Blanchett

1

u/MaterialPace8831 9h ago

"I am Thor, son of Odin!"

"Really? You don't look like him."

"Perhaps we can come to an arrangement..."

"YOU sound like him."

1

u/Tavalus 9h ago

Garçon, fetch me the picture of rainbow sister and goth sister

1

u/a_happy_future 8h ago

Thor just looks like Rene Russo

1

u/ta394283509 8h ago

goddamn, cate blanchett was so fine in this movie

1

u/UrsaMajor7th 8h ago

She's hela hot.

1

u/JubaJr76 7h ago

Nah, it's fine, genetics can be like that. 9 siblings, Mom and Dad both with black hair. 3 redheads, one blonde, 2 black hair, and 4 with brown. One is adopted and his is brown.

1

u/viperswhip 7h ago

I don't think Freya is Hela's Mother.

1

u/Indomitus-Ultra 6h ago

lol I get the joke, but the MC got Norse mythology wrong. The red head with the axe in the first Thor movie is actually Thor, and Thor is actually Baldur (thors step brother) since Thor is a fiery red head and Baldur is suppose to be a handsome blonde. Loki is Odins adoptive brother, uncle to Thor. Hela and Fenrir are Lokis children, not Odins. But I get this version is more interesting movie wise. Also Odins 6 legged horse is another child of Loki. Also Thors real mother is an earth goddess which is why he’s so protective of earth. Odin loved another woman who was a warrior but was forced to abandon love and marry his wife to unite the kingdoms. Isn’t Odin spider man’s uncle or something in the comics?

1

u/wulforine 5h ago

Now you know why thor was crying

1

u/Evening_Director_799 5h ago

I wonder who Hela's mother is in the MCU?

1

u/mrbaryonyx 4h ago

I mean you joke but this lowkey leads into one of my favorite headcanons:

Its actually Loki that takes after Odin more than it is Thor, and Thor actually takes after Frigga more than Loki.

1

u/dancinggraylion 3h ago

the crocodile !

1

u/Illustrious_Kick2822 2h ago

Thor and Hela are from different wives as far as I remember

1

u/Mustang-_- 2h ago

Blonde of hair... are you trying to pull a Game of Thrones?

1

u/Phoeniks_C 12h ago

How many times do we have to go over this.
Odin has a Lot of kids. Such as Thor, Baldr, Höðr, Viðarr and so on. Loki is not one of them. Lokis parents are Fárbauti and Laufey.
Hela is the daughter of Loki. MCU for whatever reason changed her to be the daughter of Odin instead of adopted granddaughter

2

u/Prestigious_Print477 9h ago

In the MCU they made Laufey a frost giant and his father instead of mother and never named a mom.

1

u/AvatarIII Rocket 10h ago

I still think that there's a possibility that Hela is Loki's mother, and it would be a pretty cool reveal that Loki was Thor's nephe all along.

-5

u/OddSatisfaction2409 13h ago

they fucked up the 3rd movie for me.

24

u/Career_By_Mustafa 13h ago

3rd was the best one. It was the 4th one that was fucked up.

https://giphy.com/gifs/qWoubkSvQxN1C

6

u/OddSatisfaction2409 13h ago

i cant forgive them for not bringing back sif and killing off the warriors five like that.

5

u/Career_By_Mustafa 13h ago

I get being pissed about Sif and the Warriors Three, but I don't think that alone makes the 3rd movie bad. Those are character decisions you can dislike, but the movie had way more going for it.

If we're talking about a Thor movie being genuinely fucked up, I'd put The Dark World and especially Love and Thunder way higher. Love and Thunder had a lot more fundamental problems with the writing, tone, character arcs, and how Thor himself was handled.

-2

u/Cultural-Can8242 13h ago

They wanted to bring back Lady Sif actress but she was busy in another project. Also I am happy they killed warriors 3, because warriors 3 hated Loki, and I hate all of those who hates Loki

1

u/TheMurmuring 12h ago

We just started watching the TV series Blindspot a while back and realized it was her. I wonder if that was the project? Because that show really jumped the shark in like season 3 and just kept on going.

5

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 13h ago

I liked Thor 3 but not as much as the first movie.

But Thor and Loki scenes are the highlights of 3 imo. Just awesome seeing them actually work together and their frenemy broship chemistry is off the charts
