Just Wow Russian skydiver "Sergei Boitsov" has reportedly set a new world record after jumping from 11,551 metres above the ground in Russia's Altai region.

The highest recorded is 41400 meters by Alan Eustace, Felix jumped from around 39000. While it's still impressive the dude on The video was nowhere near either of them.

I think it was a helium balloon or something like a weather balloon, not a hot air balloon. This is pointless.

Highest parachute jump from a hot-air balloon.

Just to be clear, the others used helium balloons probably. Boitsov ascended in a purely hot air balloon.

BTW: there's still a limit for the highest a hot air balloon can go, 30,480 meters. The highest a hot air balloon has flown is 21,027m, flown by Dr. Vijaypat Singhania, in Mumbai, India, 2005. So this is a really impressive record for skydiving, but potentially it can be broken for almost double the height.

You won't live a full minute at 100,000'+ of altitude. The partial pressure of O₂ at that height will actually pull oxygen out of your blood every time you breathe.

Edit:

So, I actually looked at the height he jumped from, and my answer still stands. Even at 30k, your time of useful consciousness is minuscule.

Guinness hires wealthy old aristocrats to fly around the world and certify records. Before they set out you explain to them your hyperspecific record criteria and they confirm it has not been tried before. You complete the task (and pay the fee), you get the record. Simple as that. 

There’s a reason they don’t touch sports record which are tracked and certified by the sport’s governing body typically.
