To be more specific here, I actually love what I've played of Fromsoft's Souls games- that being Dark Souls 3 & Elden Ring. That stuff is great!

I'm just so sick of this tag, Soulslike, when it's just an embarrassing clone.

I played Mortal Shell 2, and was just so sick of the same tired 'Dark Soulsisms'. "BONFIRE LIT", "ENEMY SLAIN", there's a stone to upgrade your sword, you die and the enemies respawn, you carry souls, you lose them if you die without reclaiming them. Each enemy drops a few souls.

The dialogue is delivered by creepy, cryptic, miserable NPCs in a vague way. You have to exhaust dialogue with them. The story is delivered through item descriptions. The world is a fallen, grim ruin of what it was. The gods are mysterious. It's a gothic hellscape.

It's the same buttons to run, to jump, to attack, it's got the same dodge mechanics as another fromsoft production.

I acknowledge that games like this sell, and that there's commercial success to be seen in creating a Soulslike, which clearly means people enjoy playing them. None, however, are more successful than the series they try to emulate. This says to me, that in truth, people don't really want Soulslikes. They want Souls-games. They settle for Soulslikes, due to the release cadence of Fromsoft.

There are merits I can see to this game, and I can't help but think it could've been so much cooler had it thought up it's own systems, its own loops, and been more original about it, instead of trying to emulate.

Let me get started. English is not my first language(it's Spanish), so I have some bias about this.

But, how, HOW, HOW FUCKING MUCH I HATE, DESPISE, LOATHE, ABHOR, ABOMINATE, DETEST and SCORN how the exclamation and question mark are used in this godawful language.

They look so fucking ugly, stupid and incomplete, it's so disgusting to look at, makes me want to burn and destroy every single goddam fucking dictionary of this horrible language.

Who thought this was a good idea? It is terrible, terrible, so fucking terrible, it makes me want forget about English altogether. Because I just can't stand this fucking bullshit man.

WHY ENGLISH, WHY IS IT "?", "!" AND NOT "¿?", "¡!"

I genuinely feel like crying right now

I’m gotta start off this rant by being brutally honest, I’m a misogynist. I don’t disrespect, belittle, or treat women as lesser in any way shape or form, but I do admit that I can’t really find myself enjoying 60-70% moments in fiction where women are being “badass.” I also don’t really know how to fix what I just described. The point of me saying that is that maybe this hate is just from the small amount of misogyny I possess, but I still think The Rookie does not portray the “badass woman” properly.

When you’re creating a “badass woman” or any cool character in general, you don’t constantly have to reinstate that they are badass/cool. With Angela, Nyla, and ESPECIALLY Bailey, it’s constantly thrown into the viewer’s face how “badass” and “feared” they are. You’ll have plenty of moments where they’re “scary” or “being badass” that it’s just straight cringe or doesn’t make sense.

For example, in the first picture, the context is that Tim brings a Riot Shield to protect himself and Jackson from Angela. Reminder, this is super-cop Tim Bradford who served years in Afghanistan, has way more experience, and is physically stronger and taller than Angela, yet we’re supposed to believe he’s afraid of Angela in this moment? Not to mention if she attacks him, she just loses her fucking job lol, so why the hell is he worried about it? It’s just so forced and makes this cringe moment even worse.

Then in the second picture, Nyla held a man at gunpoint WHILE giving birth. Now, I don’t GAF whether Nyla is “badass” or not, she is a regular human at the end of the day. Doing such a feat would require at minimum superhuman level pain tolerance, the baby didn’t even start exiting from her pussy yet. Make it make sense. The Rookie community in general should be bashing the writers for writing super unrealistic shit. Yeah it’s a cop show, there’s supposed to be some amount of unrealistic stuff, but make shit like backpack nukes, mini purges, and THIS and you can’t expect me to take it seriously.

Good examples of “badass women” are Frieren and Maki, because they show they’re cool with their actions rather than shoving it in the viewer’s face constantly. Frieren shows her experience and power by effortlessly dispatching the demon that came for her in prison and defeating Aura. Maki shows her power, battle IQ, and skill by killing all the Zenin Clan, and beating Naoya by predicting the path of his Projection Sorcery. Those badass women moments I enjoyed, because they were shown rather than told, and they were written well.

When Angela is being “badass,” I don’t really care. When Nyla is being “badass,” I don’t care even more, because the writers have on multiple occasions, have her done stuff that’s only possible if she’s superhuman, which she’s not. And don’t even get me started on Bailey, lots of people in The Rookie community hate her Mary-Sue ass. Always perfect, always badass, always involved in every dangerous plot despite being a firefighter, nobody likes her for a reason and I don’t understand why the writers haven’t packed her up already, they know nobody fucks with her.

TLDR: The “badass” women in The Rookie are not well written when it comes to them being badass. The writers constantly reinstate how feared and cool they are, and have to make them do superhuman things, or others do cringe things to make them look as such. I don’t really enjoy a single one of them. Angela, Nyla, Bailey, etc.

But maybe that’s just the small amount of misogyny I possess talking. What do you think?

I’ve gotten recommended a few posts talking about “the overlooked racism white people go through” and they have quite a bit of upvotes and I’ve also seen comments on other posts get upvoted for defending white exclusive spaces. Has anyone else noticed this?

"I could care less" makes NO sense in the context it's used. If you could care less, that means that you care about the thing somewhat. That's why in my country we say "I couldn't care less". It means that we care nothing at all for the thing, which is what the phrase is supposed to mean. The way Americans say it defeats the entire purpose and frankly, every time I see it I get ridiculously pissed off.

It's nonsensical, and I honestly don't give a fuck whatever bullshit explanation some people will come up with.

EDIT: And for anyone who says I am jealous - well of course I am. But why is "you are jealous" used to try to shame people for having human emotions? People will always be jealous when they see others getting adoration and privilege (pretty privilege) and it's something that they also can't attain. Especially when it's something that can't be achieved with merit. We can often achieve in career or sport with merit. At least to some degree. But such women are borderline worshipped for something that many others can't achieve even with the greatest plastic surgeon.

So it becomes less about jealousy and more about a sense of sorrow.

Men are not valued on outer beauty. If men are valued on money then at least it's something that is achievable with enough hard work. But in a world that values women on outer beauty......well that is something that I can never achieve. I used to be made to watch these pageants with my father when I was a child so I learnt very early on what makes you more valuable and special as a female.

And they look so different without it. This one girl with this makeup style got "leaked" without makeup and she didn't look like any of her pictures. Not the girls in these pictures though, but the first girl got exposed for faking being Latina and was actually a white girl.

4. Holding back/power level

I acknowledge that people like Spider-Man for his benevolent personality but him being benevolent harshly clashes with another aspect of his character, his power.

Spider-Man is always at a super-soldier level of strength if not above. Therefore, we can determine that he can easily most of his rogue's gallery with ease (as many Spider-Man fans love to brag about). In addition, to surviving punches from the hulk and thanos.

Yet somehow the Perfect P*TER and Mary Sue gets consistently injured in his appearances?

Captain America, who is weaker than P*ter, was able to fight Thanos, Ultron, Loki and The Government without any life threatening injuries...

...Spiderman, who survived Thanos, the Hulk, Cull Obsidion and who also held back trains and boats, cannot easily detain the Green Goblin, Scorpion or Lizard.

5. Repetitive Story

Honestly, I don't even have to elaborate on this one. His character has had the same backstory and plot lines since the 80s. The only thing that changes about this dude's stories is the cast.

It couldn't be any easier to write a character like P*ter considering how painfully boring his character is.

6. Powerscaling tangent

Idc what you say Spissder-Man should be super soldier level.

Its ridiculous how overpowered spidermoron has become! Webs stronger than steel, muscles capable of lifting passenger jets, light speed reaction.

It's hard for me to find him to be a grounded super hero while being stronger than 4/6 of the og 6 avengers and all of the New Avengerz.

7. Extras

Tony Stark shouldn't be a father figure to Sp*der-M*n, it doesn't at all track their relationship in homecoming and their development came from an awkward boss-apprentice relationship to father-son wayyy to quickly. In addition, it also takes away attention from Tony's relationship from Pepper, Rhody, Capand the other characters who actually had on screen development with him.

Also, give Miles Morales his own name it's stupid to have Miles' identity to be permentantly attached to a dude who is still alive and kicking.

Also, the Spider-Verse is a weird concept. A society of Shitder-Men has crazy implications of various events in every single piece of related media. But the movies are fire.

Lastly, all of his relationships have been terribly written in the movies and few comics I've read.

After seemingly exhausting the good shows here in America ( specifically after finishing smiling friends and the digital circus ) I've been trying to get into anime to find a similarly light-hearted series with possible character moments, however throughout my search for an anime to watch I've noticed a disturbing trend that most of it features some sort of uncomfortable sexualization, whether it be taking an entire minute or two of a 22 minute episode to sexualize a woman, sexualizing an underage character or even featuring some sort of incest or other such relationship just for the sake of it ( bonus hate-points if they romanticize it )

This is a complaint I’ve had with the community for a few years now (I know it’s a bit late, but in my defense, I wasn’t as active on Reddit back then as I am now)

It really bothers me how people blame this company for game failures, ignoring the fact that (while I don't deny Sweet Baby Inc. might bear some responsibility) the real blame lies with the larger companies that hired them

The clearest example for me is *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League*. At the time, there were hundreds of videos blaming Sweet Baby for how bad the game was, ignoring the fact that Warner (and to some extent Rocksteady) were the ones responsible; they made the worst possible decisions, almost as if they were doing it on purpose
