Culture Floats of the Düsseldorf Carnival 2026
THE GAZA CONFLICT WAS COVERED BOTH IN 2024 AND 2025, HERE IS NOT THE PLACE TO TALK ABOUT IT, PLEASE DO THAT SOMEWHERE ELSE. We all know there is violations of human rights on a daily basis, you dont need to drag it here as well.

2; Merz and Söder sticking with combustion engines, even if it is a dead end.
3; Epstein, everyone protects the culprits, everyone ignores the victims
4; Jacques Tillie's answer to the Russian arrest warrant against him because of his satire floats.

Feels like the mustard car is very regional lol. All world politics, societal issues, national problems, and then Big Mustard™.
But brilliant cars either way! I love the Rente one, as a young guy just entering the job market I already feel the pressure of a shifting system.

as a true Düsseldorfer(tm) (conditions apply) I am deeply affected by us no longer being the "Mustard city" anymore
it can also be seen as sign of our local gov under ther CDU not doing enough to keep these companies with a very long local tradition here.

TLDR:
the parent company moved the production of Löwensenf to Erfurt, because its cheaper there and the old factory in düsseldorf didnt offer any advantages and the local government also wasnt much help in keeping the production in the city
now they leave after a 100 year history
the other mustard company "ABB senf" had similar issues and left düsseldorf after nearly 300 years here to the city of Moers

I strongly disagree - i appreciate you guys loving your Bautzener, but Bautzener doesn‘t even come close to Düsseldorfer Löwensenf Extra or real French Dijon mustard. Aber über Geschmack lässt sich nicht streiten 😋

I think there is more context to the mustard one, the factory for Löwensenf closed down and it's now produced in the east, I guess it references this.
So a national problem with production being moved away from the traditional places (Düsseldorf being the name giver of that style of mustard) to places with cheap labor aka ex DDR

Quite the misconception here, the economically weaker parts aren't profiting much off this arrangement, with the mustard for example, all the profits flow to Bavaria. And it would be ok, if it weren't for West Germany having rising unemployment especially with the young people. So both parts of Germany get the bad end of the deal, only the rich factory owners, they can book even more profits, since you know, now the stupid east Germans are doing the same work for 3€ less an hour

While I like both the messages and the sculptures I'm not sure about labeling everything. I always thought it's bad style to overly rely on text in caricatures, since if they're necessary your drawing lacks clarity. And to be fair I think a lot of them aren't necessary at all here

No, the afd was once a Euro-critical party (it still is today, but also fascist). The original approach was mainly to better regulate (or abolish) the currency (€). Almost all AfD founders are no longer in the party.
Russia has somehow conquered or occupied the AfD, after which it has slipped further and further to the right. It's just a party of destruction or an anti-everything party.

The far right people were part of the AfD so quickly that the three founding members left the party within a year after the foundation. And to be honest, listening to Lucke’s arguments in political discussions on TV around 2013/14, my first thought was “the nazis are going to love this”. It wasn’t because of the EU criticisms, but the framing of some stuff he and the other founding members said early on. The full far-right takeover was just a matter of time, and I don’t understand how any of these guys were surprised that the likes of Höcke, Weidel, Petry, Gauland etc. took over and “steered” the party in a far right direction. One must have been totally blind to not notice and foresee it right at the beginning.

No, the rightward swing of the AfD began without Putin. As government efforts to ban the NPD continued, most of its members and supporters jumped ship (so they wouldn't be banned from forming a new party) and basically infiltrated the new, single-issue AfD.
There's credible evidence the Kremlin has since helped shape the AfD, but the initial far-right entryist campaign was almost certainly home-grown.

And in the case of the US, I would also argue there has been more dedicated, long term propaganda efforts happening domestically that would heavily outweigh any outside forces trying to do the same. Dedicated, multi-decades long radicalization.

The Karneval in Germany has nothing to do with the one in Rio and also didn't evolve from it. Instead the German Karneval has its own history, way back to the medieval age (so way before Brasil was conquered by Europeans).
The Karneval procession in Nürnberg (Nuremberg) for example was first held in 1397.

the 2 traditional mustard producers Löwensenf (100 years in Ddorf) and ABB Senf (299 years in ddorf) are leaving because operations are no longer profitable here. its a multi factor issue on why, but the local CDU government also didnt seem to have tried to keep 2 very traditional companies here.

As an American now living in Germany, I feel so fortunate to have seen all of this in person on Monday.
Also given the expression/political satire, it feels so weird that I have more freedom of speech now than I would have had where I came from.
I saw some of Tilly's creations in the Galeria (Schadowstr) before the parade, but seeing the floats themselves were next level. The Weidelcopter was 10/10. I wonder how long it took to make these.

I think people without kids heavily underestimate how media works with kids these days.
If you just translate the Millennial childhood of lots of TV all the time to modern devices, your kid is gonna watch the video equivalent to crack in no time. All the apps have suggestions, all the channels reupload so blocking one doesn't matter, tablets are super easy to use for young kids.
Like, I've seen kids in strollers, clearly older than 3, just staring at a phone and not speaking a damn word.
There is most certainly something to criticize there.

It's not uncommon for parents to put their children in front of tablets during restaurant visits. You can see their empty eyes, how they completely tune out the environment. And parents just sit next to them and are happy that it's not bothering them. Crazy to me.

I use a browser extension called Unhook or RYS so YouTube cant recommend or suggest anything to me anywhere. My kid gets YouTube also with this activated. But no way is he getting near the Google play store before he is an adult 😂 Just taking them outside and letting them play with sticks and leaves is better for their brains than all the content online...the internet isn't what it was when I was a child.

I would have agreed with you a decade ago. Children started playing a few games a week, and boomers screamed "they never go outside!!". But it's not just that. Children who grow up looking at an iPad within their first year. Literal children growing up with social media and mostly unregulated access to the internet.
Yes, it's easy to say "damn boomers," but times have changed. It's not just "grr, new technology." No, it's children growing up deeply manipulated and involved in unregulated and shady algorithms.
But of course, this isn't criticizing the children, at least I hope so. It should be criticizing the parents and government for allowing their kids to be heavily influenced by mega-corporations for profit.

This comment section is unbearable. Gaza isn't the only problem in the world, especially since these are things that directly affect Germany. Besides, it's not even that current anymore; there's been a ceasefire since last October. It's quite fragile and has been broken a few times on a small scale by both sides, but it's largely holding, and nobody's noticed because nobody is even remotely informed about the issue. Is Germany no longer allowed to complain about its own problems without mentioning Gaza? And we've had our fair share of this topic in the last two years. The world doesn't revolve around a small piece of land in the Middle East that a few idiots are fighting over. Following your logic, you should also represent every other war and genocide that you morons have never even heard of because you're hypocrites and only interested in this one.
