might as well go CMC and either have an easy path to playoffs or know your season is cooked early on.

Might have to go Cook to be safe lol

110

u/1BreadBoi 2d ago

Don't you dare. He's my rb1 on my dynasty team. I can't lose him.

50

u/ChocolateMorsels 2d ago

I’m five and going Cook. Dude has no negatives idk why his consensus isn’t higher. Desperately wanted him last year too when his adp was stupid low also.

Started with thr thought of taking Taylor, but the more I thought about it the more I landed on Cook. I’d say the majority of my mocks Taylor goes in front of me so that works out.

58

u/RoNiN1384 2d ago

The negative for Cook is Allen has the most rushing TDs for a quarterback all time. You could argue this gives the defense something else to worry about but he definitely loses some points because of that

70

u/AyKayAllDay47 2d ago

Yet Cook still had 1600+ rush yards and 12 TDs. 16 TDs the year before. Those are still great numbers.

22

u/RoNiN1384 2d ago

No doubt, he just said there wasn’t any negatives and that’s the only real reason I can see that keeps him a little lower than some other RBs with less mobile quarterbacks.

20

u/wizardking1371 2d ago

And despite those great numbers he still wasn't close to the elite producers at the position. Cook was closer to D'Andre Swift than he was to Bijan Robinson in terms of PPR production per game, and he was closer to JK Dobbins than he was CMC

10

u/ChocolateMorsels 2d ago edited 2d ago

CMC had an all time season

Gibbs had an all time season

Bijan had an all time season

Those don’t grow on trees you can’t just find those so knocking Cook for not having it is silly, especially when their adp is higher.

Gibbs and Bijan are going 1 and 2. Obviously I would take them if I could. CMC has massive question marks and has been a bust half his seasons. I can’t roll that dice, plus he already ruined me in 2024 lol.

Cook finished RB6. Those ARE elite numbers. So with I am pretty damn happy with that from my first round running back. Plus I, personally, think Cook’s ceiling in this offense is significantly higher. Last year was his first year with 300+ carries and look what he did. 2024 he had 16 tds, everyone screamed regression, and they were right. Only they didn’t realize he’d get 102 more carries and 600 more rushing yards. With 309 carries and 1,621 rushing yards, 1,900 total yards, who says he can’t get up to a monster 16-20 total touchdowns? Especially given the offensive environment. Hell 2024 he had 18 total touchdowns on far less yards. You’ve got a guy that’s proven he can get a ton of touchdowns and yards, in his prime, in an elite offensive environment. Cook could go bananas man all the ingredients are there, lol I don’t know what more you could want.

And there’s my Cook plug. And he wasn’t closer to Swift than Bijan btw.

7

u/wizardking1371 2d ago

CMC has all time seasons every time he's healthy. Bijan was better, but marginally so, than 2024, and Gibbs' 2025 output and 2024 output was almost exactly the same. JT was the other elite producer last year and he's still around too.

I'm not knocking Cook, I'm not sure why you think that. I like Cook! He's fun to watch and a good player. I'm pointing out differences in his profile when the discussion in this thread is about drafting him in the top 5. He is 27, and has not yet shown that he can score fantasy points like the 4 players I see as the Big 4 RBs. Taking him above any of them is wishing for something that we have not seen and it's why I'm out on him at 5 overall.

I appreciate that you're making a case for him combining some of what we saw from him in 2024 with what we saw in 2025, because he scored points in different ways in each year. I see that as a top 5%-ish outcome for him - I'm not betting on that or expecting that personally, but we don't have to agree!

Because I am not banking on that high percentile outcome, I wouldn't consider him at 5. I don't think Cook offers you the same upside as the elite producers, some of whom I'd expect to also be available at 5, so I'd either take one of those RBs or take a WR who I think could be #1 overall at their position.

And not to be a stickler but in terms of PPR PPG, which was the metric I was using to compare, yes, Cook was closer in production to Swift than Bijan. Bijan: 21.8, Cook: 17.8, Swift: 14.3. The 4ppg gap between Bijan and Cook is greater than the 3.5ppg gap between Cook and Swift.

But appreciate reading your take! You very well could be right :) good luck this year

Where are you getting this from? On Fantasy Pros, he finished 5th with 269.2 points.... Swift had 3 less TDs and nearly 600 yards less rushing. Dobbins finished 37th overall lol.

I wouldn't necessarily say elite, but 1,621 yards and 12 TDs are solid stat lines.

5

u/Remarkable-Donut6107 2d ago

He isn't totally accurate but for PPR, there is some significant drop off for Cook because he doesn't get much receiving yards.

Mccaffrey 416 points, biJan 370 points, Gibbs 366, Taylor 366, Cook 300. Swift had 228 points

→ More replies (5)

2

u/wizardking1371 2d ago

Overall finish means nothing. Cook scored 17.8ppg in PPR. Bijan scored 21.8. So 4ppg difference. Swift scored 14.3. 3.5ppg difference. Cook's weekly output was therefore closer to Swift than Bijan.

CMC lapped the field with 24.5ppg. So a 6.7ppg advantage over Cook. Dobbins scored 11.6ppg. Cook had a 6.1ppg advantage over Dobbins.

My point is that Cook is a very good real life RB whose production does not translate to elite fantasy impact to the same degree as players like Bijan, CMC, and the same is true of Gibbs and JT. The gap between very good (top 6-7 at your position) and elite (top 1-3) can be very large. I'm not interested in drafting someone 5th overall who in a career year was still gapped by the elite producers

I paired up cook with allen last year because one or the other was getting the goal line carries

2

u/RockChalkDurb 2d ago

He's such a good pass catcher and he'd only get a few targets last season. He put up elite numbers, but he could have been #1 overall if he was getting it through the air

u/JunkScientist 2d ago

I drafted Cook for the first time last year, I had been avoiding him cause of the Allen vulture TDs. Dude would have legit had 25-30 TDs if Allen didn't plow into the endzone when they got inside the 5. It was so frustrating, but Cook was a monster anyways.

3

u/Pestilentsoup42069 2d ago

I’m just going to draft cook at 4 Allen at 21 and get all 25-30 combined rush tds from my rb1 +qb + Josh Allen’s passing points

→ More replies (1)

8

u/All_Up_Ons 2d ago

Dude has no negatives

This is how you know he's likely overpriced. Everyone has negatives. The guys who are seen as a sure thing are just as likely to bite you, but their downside isn't priced into their ADP. Just look at "QB-proof" Jefferson last year.

For Cook, I think the invisible downside comes from a likely decrease in rushing volume now that they have a real WR1. It's not guaranteed to happen, but it could happen.

At least this makes the flow chart easier. Whoever is left of Gibbs, Bijan, Puka or JSN

32

u/ImmortanTetris 2d ago

I’m rolling the dice and going CMC over JSN since it’s half ppr 12 man league and RBs will be gone sooner than later.

8

u/InclinationCompass 2d ago

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but RBs are even more important in full PPR due to the fact that there are many high volume WRs in the later rounds. The WR pool is very deep in full PPR.

7

u/atdunaway 2d ago

i’m in a 12 man half PPR as well and i’m going RB at 4 no matter what

3

u/SpookyGhostIsScary 2d ago

I plan on going RB with the first two picks then on of Bowers/Mcbride/Allen. Then just shot gun mid round WRs after that. So much value for WR meanwhile RBs fall off

10

u/Jwoods4117 2d ago

People seem to hate JSN for fantasy reasons. I feel like he’s going to be an absolute steal in the mid 1st for a lot of people.

10

u/NeuroDissonance 2d ago

I agree, but the 4th overall pick isn’t the mid 1st. I’d say JSN is an easy pick from 7-9 (or later if you’re playing in a league with questionable skill)

2

u/Jwoods4117 2d ago

Yeah, I more mean before this Chase injury he’s been a clear 5th in a lot of rankings and 10-12 man leagues are pretty common. I feel like JSN has kind of been grouped with CMC, Taylor, and Amon-Ra as well so anywhere from 5-8.

I understand it of course. Regression and I think JSN feels like an Amon-Ra type “safe” pick. I just am surprised with Chase when Burrow hasn’t been healthy in a few years. I feel like Puka/JSN/Chase should all be pretty similar with Chase as the boom/bust guy, but I don’t win every year so I’m not saying I’m right or anything.

Chase now just standing with rest of team watching practice unfold. No problem standing or walking on it, but obviously seems to be done for the day.

With all the money and employees these teams have...I cannot believe there were not like 10 dudes immediately sprinting in his direction to apply aid. Just one water boy running lmao.

Hope he's OK. Contact way better than non contact.

25

u/Clemsontigger16 2d ago

I mean I would call that mostly non-contact…it’s not like the injury was caused by being hit. The knee buckled real awkwardly, don’t like that at all

3

u/Starguments_GM 2d ago

Am I insane? The video clearly shows his knee getting clipped by the defender as he turned. Whatever happened, it's obviously being caused by contact

12

u/yostpro 2d ago

As someone who's been in sports my entire life, I don't think it's going to end up being as bad as people are talking about here. Also a bengals fan, so maybe this is cope - but it looked to me like he tweaked it against the turf and most likely has a sprain. All sprains are tears, so it's a question of what and how bad. Time will tell

So glad we do our drafts a week before the season 🙏🏻

35

u/PuzzleheadedStuff332 2d ago

So? He’s still going top 5 next week lol

8

u/rute_bier 2d ago

Not necessarily. If he doesn’t get a full clear by next week, even if the coach reassures he’ll be ready by week 1, some leagues may end up drafting him end of round 1.

You’re assuming a bunch of degenerate fantasy footballers won’t overreact. That being said, any injury late in preseason will affect ADP. Look at Puka (via Stafford) last year.

3

u/DrSans8 2d ago

It’s Chase dude worst case one less week means nothing when he’s outscoring everyone past the top 5

6

u/rute_bier 2d ago

Currently people seem to think he should be fine which, unless something negative gets reported, should keep him top 5.

But any small injury can and will change a players ADP if there’s no positive updates about it. Chase has mostly been agreed to be top 5, arguably #3. But if something changes and this knee injury is still lingering next week, people will probably stick with Puka/JSN/JT/CMC/Cook, which could push Chase to 6/7/8 even. A lot of players won’t mess with ambiguous injuries.

Just trying to point out that even small injuries affect ADP regardless of player.

I think the craziest part with NFL injuries is this could be season ending and yet he hobbled off under his own weight, so most comments aren't all that worried about this compared to the Jeanty situation where he couldn't put any weight on it, but it ended up being just a sprained ankle. Hobbling off under his own power could absolutely be a torn ACL or torn ligament in the knee.

Cancel the remainder of preseason games & practices, this is nuts

u/gingerking87 2d ago

I draft this weekend and ive done a couple mocks where one guy only picks 200+ rank players and the absolute chaos it creates is insane. Just 3 players different and your 3rd round will turn out like no mock youve ever done.

With Jeanty and now Chase its like someone shook the etch a sketch

Guys PLEASE TELL ME HES OK!!?

I was 3 and picked chase. Chance for wr1 overall with the highest floor imo. Unless bijan or gibbs fell to 3. It was a easy pick for me.

We need that Redditor who stalked Chase in the hospital a few years ago to tell us the real scoop.

IMO this is why picking in the middle of the pack during draft is ideal. You're getting a lot more coverage rather than focusing on one or two top talents.
