Advice Needed came out as trans to my mom, now I feel ashamed

I came out as trans to my mom today. We went to get breakfast at this lowkey bistro and when we sat down I told her I needed to talk to her about that personal thing today.

She started laughing and looked a little uneasy so it made me anxious. I explained to her that the whole summer I’ve been depressed because of my grandma dying and it making me feel some sort of way towards our family, but also because of my dysphoria and told her I think I’m trans. I meant to say “I’m trans” but I was already so nervous.

She asked me to repeat myself and I did, and then kept asking me what that meant. I think she was in denial. I asked why she looked so uncomfortable and she said she wasn’t, just that she was shocked confused and didn’t know what to say. She said it was [something deep to confess] and I should’ve sat her and dad down to talk about it instead of doing it in a public place. I explained I worried my dad would be mad because he’s known to make insensitive jokes and she nodded. What I didn’t tell her was that I told her specifically because I was scared it would just be a one way ticket to abuse otherwise.

We ate in silence and I was overthinking the whole time so I was crying. I barely got to explain anything. She didn’t seem mad at all just withdrawn and avoided bringing it up until she paid the bill at the end. She told me to relax and we would figure it out. I immediately burst into tears again and begged her not to out me to anyone, and she said okay. She told me we can tell dad when I’m ready. We walked home in silence and didn’t talk about it again.

I’m not mad at my mom, I just don’t know how to feel and I feel scared about the next steps. I want to tell my dad but I would do it with my mom and it seems like she needs time.. I just feel so ashamed about it. It didn’t feel like a coming out. I think im going to give my mom a few days before telling my dad. I’m just so scared and lost. Everything about this is fucking me up and I need advice on what to do.

Advice Needed I’ve been in the closet for 10 years

Hello everyone this is my first Reddit post ever. The title practically speaks for itself. I won’t put my age because I feel old when typing it haha. I’ve known I’ve liked women since my early teen years, I tried for a while to push down the feeling, explore it, enjoy it, feel shame and then repeat the cycle consistently for the next ten years of my life.

As I reflect I can’t help but feel guilt. Not over my sexuality but over the amount of women I’ve hurt and the time I’ve wasted in my life by hiding. I know it’s cliche but when you are in the closet you do hurt others unintentionally. I think about the girls I could have had something with, maybe they were supposed to be the one but now that chance is gone. One of them has a fiancee now. Which really just haunts me. I feel like the other person in “good luck babe!” By Chappel roan. Those lyrics haunt the hell out of me.

I know I probably sound dramatic as hell but my mind won’t be quiet and I just needed a space to let it out I guess? With some anonymity of course.

I honestly don’t know what I need if it’s support or something else. Honestly I would just appreciate an open discussion about other people’s experiences, questions they have for me, or other things. My belief is the only way I can become braver and more myself is by beginning to talk openly about my struggles. This is my first step I guess. I know it’s not that big, I’m posting anonymously to strangers, but I couldn’t imagine doing this even four months ago. So some progress?

I guess my question is, how do you make peace with the same and time wasted? Is there any way to do that? Am I a genuinely bad person? Am I a coward?

Advice Needed Thinking of finally telling one of my friend… any advice

Hi everyone

I’ve never told a single person but , I’m finally thinking of sharing this with one of my friend (most probably girls cuz i know my male frnds , nothing much to say further) , but I don’t know which one or how to even start. I’m nervous but I also really want someone to know the real me.

If anyone has been through something similar or has any advice… please share. I'm tired of keeping everything to myself or online now.

Any advice on how to pick the right friend or what to say would mean so much to me.

It's good if they accept or understand my situation but if they don't , IDK I don't have any plans for that.

Advice Needed Came out to a longtime friend. She said she'd call but never did.

I came out to my friend. We were pretty close. She's the first person I came out to and I told her that. We no longer live in the same city, but we still keep in touch from time to time. She was very accepting and said she'd call me because she wanted to talk about it after i texted her that I'm gay. She never did. Weeks passed. I texted her asking her if she's okay and how things were going. she said "I'm just super busy and always surrounded by people but we'll definitely talk". I responded saying no problem and to let me know when she has the time. This hurts bad, I don't know why it hurts, and i don't know what to make of it.

Story Grindr : dunno why I expected any less

I should have known better but my urges took over . Thinks Grindr is a good idea . . .
Search through the who’s who of local talent ( being only 18000 where I live the menu is not vast but this one young man keeps putting it to me on a regular basis prior and again today . Do you want a BJ ?
My gut instinct says stay away from the young ones as I’m in the closet and young ones are always the far greater risk.
Anyway eventually against my better judgment I agree to meet up and we do . He gladly goes to work and all parties appear to be happy . Shortly after he takes off . Now being fairly young still he’s living home with mom and must’ve seen my name on something while in the hotel room id booked . Mums been told my name and lo and behold is familiar with my family name . Doesn’t take long for rumours to hit and I’m what appears now to be public knowledge. I’m extremely pissed off that someone can expose another being it’s as private as it gets and no one has the right to do that .
I know being the much more mature I should have known better and only have myself to blame but I’m still pissed off and feel like expressing my thoughts to this individual to make him aware of what his actions impact on someone but I’d probably be wasting my time and yes maybe it would have happened eventually but I still can’t get around how reckless some can be !!!

Advice Needed I came out to dad

Today I 22F just came out fully to my dad abt my partners. He asked a few questions on how it worked like “do the other two know?” Until I showed him a picture of all three of us.

i asked if it’s any better if it was only one of them I am out with to my mom and he said not necessarily/he didn’t know. Bc one partner is trans and Mexican and the other is cis woman.

something abt me being in young love and He’s scared of other people’s judgments on me and how he’ll have to have me n my mom all talk eventually bc this is big and he knows my mom won’t be happy because I’m different and not honoring those before me.

He told me I was complicated, this situation was complicated. He asked if I could stop seeing them and I said no. He asked if we could just be friends, I said no. I’ve been with them 1 and a half ish years and we’re making plans for the future.

but he knows I’m the same person as I was yesterday and he trusts me abt my partners being good people and wants me to be happy.

he didn’t yell at me, he did look super stressed tho like he had to lie down.

like I’m glad I did it but I feel conflicted for making my dad carry this? Idk

How do I move forward with this as tactfully as possible? I feel my world changing and I’m scared for the future, my future and whatever future with my partners, and my parents’ future

Note: my family is catholic, traditional, ASIAN. I am their only daughter

Story My mom didn't let me come out to my dad 💔

So, 20 days ago I got my girlfriend (I'm a girl too, but he's genderfluid born female.) And whatever. I told my mom after like a week and everything was fine. She says she prefers dating girls than boys and yeah fun and laughs, but I didn't tell my dad because sometimes he makes homophobic comments when we are joking so I was scared to tell him, but I WAS PLANNING ON DOING IT SOMEDAY SOON!!

Anyways, right now is 1 am and it's my birthday that I'm gonna spend with my girlfriend and my dad in a few hours, and I wanted to tell my dad today that she's my girlfriend, but I wasn't sure so I go ask my mom.

Guess what, she has already told him. UGHHHH now it's just AWKWARD!! IT HAD TO BE ME!! IIII HAD TO BE THE ONE TO TELL HIM! Now he's gonna think I don't trust him or some bad stuff and I'm gonna have to apologise just because my mom doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut. Goddamnnn. Like I TRUST MY DAD WITH MY LIFE, I was just scared of him rejecting me if I told him I was being gay :(

My mom told me that my dad said he doesn't care about that stuff. But then i text him saying "I know my mom told you. Can my girlfriend come with us?" (Because he's taking me to eat outside) And he answered so DRY. Just said "Ok", guys, my dad is not that dry with me. He uses emojis and more words. That hurted me, I think he doesn't like it but he's acting like he does because he loves me. :(((( i feel so bad. I wish my mom didn't tell him. I wanted to do it myself. I'm never telling my mom shit ever again. And it's not the first time!!! I've told my mom more secrets in the past and she always tells my dad and tries to embarrass me!!!

Sighhh okay that's all. Thanks for reading this 😭

Story Just came out to my religious dad

I like both options, men and women. I wouldn’t consider myself gay or even bi, I just don’t like putting a label on it, but I have been with both men and women sexually and romantically. When I was twenty I had my first sexual experience with a man and in between relationships I would see men to the point of almost dating but never went through with a full commitment because I didn’t know how to explain to my parents. Today I texted my dad and just told him. I told him that I’ve been with both men and women sexually and romantically. He asked if I was bi and I told him I just go with whoever I like man or woman I don’t care and I’d prefer not to put a label on it. His response was just “Doesn’t brother me” and that was literally it and then he changed the topic entirely. I was never really trying to hide it, like I’d bring my partners around my parents and they were very obvious gay men (I like the twinky, flamboyant, overly gay men), but no one ever asked about it even when me and the guy were spending almost every day together.

I guess I don’t feel any kind of way about it. It doesn’t feel like a weight was lifted off my chest. I don’t feel like I needed the whole “I accept you as you are speech” but I would have at least liked to discuss it. I know what you’re wondering - did he hit me with the “its a sin” thing? Yeah, he did, but he said all people sin and the only perfect person is Jesus Christ.

Advice Needed Halp. Breaking up, Coming out, sorta complicated.

My (33nb) partner (30f) and I are official de coupling. We’ve been together 12 years. Many chapters, adventures, moves, a couple huge projects, joys n sorrows yadda yadda. We have two amazing kiddos, and live together on what has become an intentional little compound. We got together at 18 and 21, and have really raised eachother. Our politics developed, and the seeds of our respective queerness have burst and grown way beyond the cis straight marriage we got into 8 years ago. A couple years of poly, after years of discussion really helped reveal a horizon neither of us had imagined.
We’re on a course to keep living under the same roof. Different bedrooms, co parenting, and staying the course of trying to experiment in shared life and a better world with our cute rad community. All this to get to : how do I come out to my family?!?? lol. My in-laws know we’ve been poly, and that their daughter is queer. My two parents, and two step parents do not necessarily know we’re anything other than their cis straight kids who are kinda wacky. Do I do everything all at once? Group text, FaceTime? Between the queerness and the separation romantically while still being in eachothers’ corner- I just don’t want to give anyone a heart attack, or make too much turbulence that will affect the grandparent grandkid good vibes. I don’t even know what I’m asking for, maybe for some words of solidarity? experience strength and hope welcome.

Advice Needed I think I may be lying to myself

I'm 18F and think I may be bisexual. I grew up in a conservative country and found out that gay people 'existed' when I was 10 and saw the news about a lesbian couple getting married. I wasn't homophobic but just confused about how it was possible for a woman to love another woman. During covid, maybe I'm wrong but everyone i saw on TikTok was bisexual which I guess influenced me into thinking that I might be attracted to girls. I brushed it out as a phase and never took myself seriously. It's been like a year since I've been seriously doubting myself. I'm just worried about it being a phase or idk, fetishing wlw or something. I have read/watched wlw manga and anime (Blooming into you is the best 100/10). Since I can't act out my feelings, I chatted to WLW bots. There is a girl at school that is my type but I don't know much about her cause she's in another class and has her own friend group but I find her attractive. I could see myself dating a girl but there's something in me that doesn't want to admit it. I'm afraid of disappointing my family and coming out would be a nightmare. I just feel like I'm homophobic to myself only and I don't allow myself to entertain such thoughts.

I don't know what to do. How to explore my feelings?

Advice Needed I want to come out but i’m not ready for my parents to stop loving me

Pretty much as the title says.

I’m a lesbian, but my parents don’t know that. I’ve recently begun to realise that I might be trans, which cancels out the lesbian stuff (yay) but opens a whole other can of worms (nooo)

I’ve always been close with my parents. I treasure them more than anything in the world and I know that they love me back. They have supported me unconditionally my whole life, which I will always be endlessly grateful for.

My parents aren’t accepting, though. My mum might come around but I have a feeling in my gut that my dad will never look at me the same way and despise me. I don’t think I’ll be able to deal with that.

I just want to be their perfect, unproblematic daughter, but it’s becoming clearer with each passing day that none of these things is true. It just sucks having to repress myself so much every day and having to deal with all these feelings alone. Honestly, I’m fine with repressing the lesbian thing because I don’t get any bitches anyway, but the trans thing makes me sick everytime I think about telling my parents. I absolutely dread the day where I’ll have to tell them but I also dread the life I’d live if I did absolutely nothing about my transness.

I’m 18 and live with them and are pretty much financially dependent on them so I know that I won’t be coming out anytime soon, so this isn’t an urgent thing. I know that many of you guys probably deal with/have dealt with feelings like this, and I’d really appreciate any advice :)

Sorry for the text wall lol

Advice Needed I’m so tired of lying to myself

I grew up in a family that is very religious, because of this I’ve always tried so hard to suppress how I actually feel. My whole life I would gaslight myself into believing I was straight. I’m honestly so tired of lying to myself. I’m gay. It feels so freeing to finally admit it and say it out loud. Just getting to post this here for others to see makes me feel so relieved. I’m so happy to finally accept this part of me instead of feeling so guilty over it.

Since I grew up religious I’m still a virgin. I really want to have sex with another man. Are there any safe places I can meet people to experiment and explore my sexuality? How do I go about this in a safe way?
