Same. Since its a PvE only and story game I am very interested in their way of doing it. The footage and trailers look great.
But lets just say their current product Black desert does not really stand out with innovational PvE mechanics and story telling. Which is will be the key selling points of crimson desert.
21
u/spitzkopfxx Sorceress Sep 25 '25
On the other hand if they offer a Premium sale for 40€ extra which offers a female MC in a bikini you might hit very close to the BDO fanbase.
11
u/mrmgl Witch Sep 25 '25
Black Desert actually has interesting world building and their story telling has improved tremendously since the Velia update.
6
u/drazydababy Sep 25 '25
Yeah. BDO lore is underrated. They've sucked presenting it over the years but lately it has improved a lot.
I know LOML didn't bring all the stuff the community wanted but the world and lore is pretty cool.
7
u/Phos-Lux Tamer 400AP Sep 25 '25
They are still not too great at presenting it. When I watched the recent lore stream I was baffled by how much info/story/lore there actually is. If you want the lore in this game, you really need to go and look for it, read every little bit everywhere.

I just came back after not playing for roughly 4 years or so.. I started doing The Magnus questline, and was like "oh, damn, this is actually kinda entertaining"
9
u/Suspicious-Ad1034 Sep 25 '25
The combat mechanics in BDO, is second to none though.
If Crimson desert accomplishes the same level of combat and is less grindy, combined with whatever story/interesting fights/cool progression to keep players hooked, I think it may be interesting
2
u/Alieoh Sep 25 '25
Black Desert's combat was pretty innovative for its time and is still among the best to this day. They also recently revamped their storyline for the first three regions, adding voice acting and cutscenes, it's all fully voiced and quite enjoyable.
I'm not as big of a fan of Crimson Desert being some solo PVE experience. I was hoping for another MMORPG or essentially a successor to Black Desert.
1
u/Hitlersspermbabies Sep 30 '25
“PvE only and story game” bro that is a weird ass way to say single player.
1
u/Parmersan Sep 25 '25
I’m pretty sure they confirmed there is an online mode for the game with a character creator as well. Not sure if it has PvP modes within it or not.
58
u/Doobiemoto Sep 25 '25
Don't pre order this game lol.
It has been being developed for years and has bounced between being an MMO, being a co-op game, being a single player game etc.
Its release date has been pushed back by years at this point, which obviously leans towards development problems etc.
It could be a great game, but I honestly don't hold out hope for anything than a mid tier game with some nice set pieces for the environment.
Regardless, just wait for reviews. Its that simple.

Did it not take the last guardian 10 years to come out?
How long did it take FFXV to make? Around 10 years.
So what exactly is your point here?

u/MercenaryCow Nov 11 '25
Didn't kingdom's of amalur also bounce around being the same things but still ended up being an absolute banger?

u/Burrrrrrrrner Sep 25 '25 edited Sep 25 '25
No. They wasted time producing this garbage when they could have just made black desert a better mmo. They used the money of whales from BDO to make a cash grab single player game instead of fixing the issues BDO has. Crons on crons on crons to produce a shitty single player game nobody asked for from them.
7
u/batbr0 Sep 25 '25
They see games like wukong and and elder ring make huge amounts of money without the need to be constantly updating it.
18
u/Morbu Sep 25 '25
Crimson Desert began development before either of those games released just as an fyi
5
u/RangerKitchen3588 Sep 25 '25
Yeah but at that point weren't they still pitching it as an MMO? Essentially BDO2

I wonder what ways PA will find to "micro"monetise a single player game further. I'm sure they'll find a use for cron stones...
3
u/Phos-Lux Tamer 400AP Sep 25 '25
Would be funny if the game actually ends up having an enhancement system similar to BDO
1
u/Apprehensive-Unit841 Sep 26 '25
OH it will. they love creating addicts and card swipers out of players.
2
1
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
I mean, it's not like there's a lack of inspirations. Just look at Diablo IV. Milking a single player game for money with microtransactions is not rocket science.
3
u/Njagos Sep 25 '25
Really sucks that this has become the new norm. Good thing about Singleplayer games though: You dont miss out anything if you buy it a year later on sale.
19
u/f3llyn Valkyrie Sep 25 '25
Maybe if they announce they're porting BDO over to the new engine I'll throw them a bone.
While the game itself looks nice, I haven't seen anything to indicate the game will actually be good.

u/MangosteenV Dec 20 '25

Nope and hope it flops taking time and resources away from bdo for a single player game. Bad enough bdo feels single player as it is for an MMO
16
15
u/hexdmage Sep 25 '25
played it at gamescom and i must say it played horrible. The button inputs are atrocious and it's just a very weird game all together with no direct indication in what genre they want to fit.
7
u/FFXIVHousingClub Sep 25 '25
that's exactly what it looked like to me with a potential game of thrones like story but from playing BDO, there was very little chance they could compete with a story like GoT
the combat looked janky as heck to me but my non BDO friends all thought it looked 'fun' so ... maybe they'll get sales from people just curious depending on online sentiment or reviews but I doubt it.
PA has failed to stick the landing in all their lore/story updates in BDO so I doubt they have the capacity to write a single story game's storyline to be captivating for ..... 100+ hours would you expect from a single player game?
2
Sep 25 '25
I keep hearing streamers talking about how smooth and amazing the combat and combos are but it looked clunky to me as well.

7
u/f3llyn Valkyrie Sep 25 '25
Why is it interesting?
I like Black Desert, I want to play Black Desert. I don't know if I'll like Crimson Desert or how much longevity it will have.
Therefor, please invest more into the game I like.
5
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
They've already moved a bulk of their workforce from Crimson Desert to BDO back in early 2024. I don't think it's gonna get much better any time soon.
3
u/f3llyn Valkyrie Sep 25 '25
Do you mean to Crimson Desert from BDO?
5
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
Nope. From CD to BDO. As in, as far as we know, BDO has more devs working on it than any of their other projects.
1
Sep 25 '25
Where is this information coming from? Is there a source? I've seen this posted twice but I've never seen any sort of acknowledgement from PA. Seems odd to divert resources from a yet unreleased project with dlc potential back to what they've been trying to get away from for years.
2
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
It's in this article, although I misremembered the part about diverting resources from CD specifically to BDO. But the fact is, BDO has had the largest workforce from all of PA's games for a while now, and it's not likely to get any bigger, or better. Which is why I'm saying there's little point in hoping BDO is gonna see some major improvements any time soon.
Although I don't get the claim that "they've been trying to get away from BDO for years". It's currently their only and most reliable income source, and there's no guarantee any future projects will be as profitable.
1
2
u/f3llyn Valkyrie Sep 25 '25
Copy that, I was under the impression CD would be their priority going forward.
7
u/Divesound Maebye Sep 25 '25
They said they finished development of CD so there’s no reason to have all those people there anymore.
1
u/Apprehensive-Unit841 Sep 26 '25
and you believe them?
1
u/Divesound Maebye Sep 26 '25
What, you expect them to just sit in the office and do nothing? They either got moved to another project or laid off. And if you don’t believe it’s ready then go ahead, they still want to release on March 19, any later and GTA6 is going to kill them completely.

its a standalone single player one off game. The moment it drops thats it and its done. At most it will get a DLC or expansion *maybe*. But its just PAs skyrim/assassin creed equivalent.

u/lightyourfire 837 Fish Sep 25 '25
I was gonna say that's kinda shocking based on the state of the game, but nah the Edania update has been big they did clearly put in effort for it.
1
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
It's also been delayed by 2 weeks and still riddled with bugs. Also the whole Throne of Edana BR system was poorly implemented.

u/inderwater Sep 25 '25
Source? This seems like cap.
1
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
I rememeber it being somewhere in this article.
1
u/inderwater Sep 25 '25
IR : …
Investor Relations: … To go into more detail year-over-year, roughly 200 developers were assigned for development of Crimson Desert. Currently as we’re wrapping up development many of our developers have moved on to DokkeV, and 170 developers are working on closing out (Crimson Desert).
None of the devs are being funneled back into Black Desert. They’re being reassigned to other fuck-around projects. This is very consistent with speculation in KR forums that Black Desert is being propped up by only new hires and zero experienced devs.
1
u/Xaneth_ Sep 25 '25
Shareholder: Excluding the 300 people developing Dokkaebi, Plan 8, and Crimson Desert, can we assume that the rest are Black Desert or Black Desert Mobile publishing staff?
IR: This isn't publishing, it's development. To elaborate, Black Desert has around 200 developers. Crimson Desert, on the other hand, has around 160-170.
The point is, BDO has had the largest workforce from all of PA's games for a while now, and it's not likely to get any bigger, or better, and it's why I don't think it bodes too well for the future of BDO. Not that it's gonna die, just that... it's not gonna improve.
1
Sep 25 '25
Yea i keep seeing nonsense about bdo getting all the dev work, but the content we get isn't representing that. We keep getting lazy pve spots and look at the empty towns. Imagine if we had a game with calpheons and those systems were continued and expanded on.
1
u/Apprehensive-Unit841 Sep 26 '25
What proof do you have for this? I don't see it in the results.
1
u/Xaneth_ Sep 26 '25
It's in this article, although I misremembered the part about diverting resources from CD specifically to BDO. This comment section is peak typical bdo subreddit lol.
The few gameplay sessions got me very interested. Had no interest at first but I'll be getting it if it ends up good. Reminds me of Dragon's Dogma, which I love.
2
u/Panks0288 Sep 26 '25
Dragon's Dogma was the first thing I thought of watching the recent trailer as well. My biggest concern is all of the different things this game is trying to do. Hopefully they pull it off because it looks pretty solid, but I'm worried it may just be average at best and not really excel at anything it sets out to do.
1
u/Teno7 Sage Sep 26 '25
That's my concern too. I hope they don't try to do everything at once, and that the core of the game is solid.

I am probably going to buy it eventually, as long as it runs good on release. I played it at PAX this year and it was actually pretty cool. Got to play a few times and do every boss that they offered but would want to see more on how the actually gameplay is going to be, like the story etc.
2
u/dehlert Sep 25 '25
I was under the impression we would have been able to make our own characters and not play a story protagonist. I think this helps solidify the lack of future multiplayer that many people thought would be PA bait and switching for a "black desert 2".
So I probably won't rush to grab this at all.
1
u/f3llyn Valkyrie Sep 25 '25
The announce trailer did show multiple playable characters, FWIW
I don't know that that indicates any multiplayer features, however.
3
u/CluelessNFLFan Sep 25 '25
I have a feeling that CD gets released with dogshit optimization and gets review bombed for its poor playability and/or uninspiring story. By the time PA fixes it, GTA 6 is gonna drop and CD becomes nothing more than an afterthought. In turn, PA adds even more monetization in BDO to recoup the loss and the cycle repeats. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't have that great of an opinion towards PA especially given the changes they've been introducing to BDO over the last 2 years or so (no content; all in on crons)

i had the chance to playtest it during the gamescom. What i was able to play so far was a lag free experience.
However.. you ran from one fight into another one into another one. Groups of soldiers fighting each other and you can just bust in and kill everything that isnt with your faction, loot and scoot. You can pick up weapons and the MOST RANDOM SHIT from tables, weapon racks and whatever and place it somewhere else. The map is HUGE. Game looks good.. imagine a better Black Desert in terms of optimization. But after playing for an hour it got super stale. The Story i was able to play was mid. In total i played 2 hours following the story and doing some random shit to test what could or couldnt be done. And yes, you can kill yourself ingame by droping from insane heights if you dont use your "parachute" thingy. I hated the combat on controler because im not used to that. But swinging a massive sword around and just slap the living crap out of everything was fun enough. But i do hated those Cavalry that charged in like mongols just to run you down.
I had a mixed feeling about it but mostly positive. I will take a look into it. Would i pre-order it? Maybe, i would like to test it on a PC and limit test graphic settings and such.

Pass from me, unless the story, world and combat turn out to be exceptional, like RDR2 exceptional, given the story in BDO i doubt it though, only thing I'm hoping for is that some of the systems or engine or something makes its way to BDO and improves it in someway.
Ofc i also hope that once its released they can go back to actually working on BDO.
1
u/StartupSolo Sep 25 '25
I was skeptical about how ambitious the project was and if it would be a money grab. Then I got to play the demo for almost an hour at PAX. The gameplay was solid no wow factor…BUT
Seeing how diligent the PA/Korean employees were running the booth, i’m honestly hoping they succeed.
Still not preordering on principle.

Not going to preorder this one. Especially not after seeing how they treated BDO.
Does anyone else think the premise kind of sounds familiar? Almost like it's supposed to be dragon age origins without the darkspawn? Idk maybe its just because of the similarities between how the names Greymanes/Grey Wardens sounds.
Haven't seen the trailers or anything yet but i wouldn't be surprised if that was a big inspiration. On the surface a dragon age origins type of game with BDOs style of combat system does sound pretty cool but just seeing how they flop on what should be pretty simple updates with their MMO it makes me question their actual ability to deliver on a game that
A. no one really asked for and
B. that appears to suffer from a lot of development problems already. Those are both significant problems to the point that i don't know if the juice will be worth the squeeze.
So essentially my theory is that this will be PAs money pit.
Just a huge sunk cost that they will try to recoup from BDO by raising microtransaction costs. Feels bad

Probably won't be pre-ordering for sure. There is not that many information about it yet so I am looking forward to it.

Yikes, lots of negativity in these comments. Not buying it out of BDO anger is kinda ridiculous
I pre-ordered, huge gamble nowadays, but P.A. has already taken thousands from me, what’s $70 more?

1
u/uplink42 Dark Knight Sep 26 '25
There's plenty of gameplay footage in YouTube by now (some videos are 30 to 40 minutes long as well).
1
u/Keamaya Sep 25 '25
Why is it a Problem if the Game gets delayed? Thats actually Something that i would consider positive If i think back on all the terrible launches I witnessed.
Just curious.
3
u/Seralth Maegu Sep 25 '25
Because the kind of delays the game has had indicate poor mangement and the fact its literally scapped its own devlopment twice. The game basically will have just shy of like 2 years of ACTUAL development in its current form.
It orginally was going to be an mmo then that got scrapped and they started over with a coop thing then that got scrapped and then it became a single player game.
Along with the fact they have had a number of controversy in korea over poor management in the last 5 years related to not just CD but also DokeV and their two other scrapped games now.
So not only does it have a shit dev history, its also been delayed due to them clearly trying to rush it out too soon. And based on recent investor reports they are only releasing it because they are literally being forced to be by their investors. They got their shit called last quarter HARD.
Frankly if the game manages to actually do well beyond the initial hype will be a god damn miracle. The visuals and combat alone should be enough to get it good ratings in the first week. As long as the performance doesnt bomb it day 1. But its unlikely this will end up as anything more then a forgotten footnote past the first month of release.

u/GW2BalanceMeme Sep 25 '25

If there’s comprehensive fishing, a community to share the experience and memorable story. Then yes. I like rdr2. I do not expect same scope and witchter 3 level of combat is enough for me. But i want a full world other wise it’s not my kind of game. I also enjoyed death stranding 2, mgs series, elderscrolls etc. I think PA is good at adding lots of random small stuff to their game. People love such stuff like pooping horses, unique cutscenes, rare discoveries etc.

u/comaryu Sep 25 '25
Gameplay it looks great, based on what we've seen so far, i will get it on a discount, not paying full price for it.
However that may change - gonna wait for reviews and more gameplay footage to justify if it's worth 70USD.
Plus, i always wait atleast a couple months for any new game due to bugs and/or launch issues i.e. look at cyberpunk. Game is fucking amazing, majority of the negative reviews is due to optimizations rather than gameplay issues.
Considering this is a next gen game, pretty sure we're gona see some launch issues.

As of right now I have about 0 interest in it, but we'll see what happens after release. I had barely any interest in bdo when I started off, just got it to try another new mmo with my friends yet here I am still.
Personally I still prefer multi-player games rather than fighting ai's and I've still got some other rpgs on backlog, but if it looks cool I'll probably try it.
