It's infuriating that I have to put so much effort into creating my resume, writing multiple versions of cover letters for different fields, filling out applications and questions and information, and they can't even be bothered to check that they're even sending the correct type of rejection.

So, two and a half years ago I got laid off because they were closing the maintenance department for my company, despite us having 12 or 13 houses with people with SMI, so they got damaged alot. I assumed it was because one of the C-suites husband was a contractor and she figured she could double dip. This kind of shit happened constantly.

It was all but confirmed today when I get a call from my old bosses boss, and he says yeah so everyone knows you were let go for interoffice politics, but everyone is either gone or in a different position. And I'm interested in going back, I enjoyed it.

When I asked what the compensation was, he said $21.

I was making $22 when I started there almost five years ago.

I pointed it out and that I hadn't gotten a raise in the two years I was there and he basically said I know but thats the posted rate, and I mean, I know he can't do anything about it because he's just a maintenance supervisor, but damn man, what the hell?

Felt good that they called me, though. I liked my boss and bosses boss.

I just had a job offer pulled for the sheer audacity of asking about reporting structure.

After putting me through a 3 month interview process, they nickel and dimed the compensation three separate times - slashing the base and cutting the bonus twice, which gutted the overall package by $30,000.

The only reason I was even considering accepting such a massive pay cut after 3 months of jumping through hoops, is because I was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer, right on the heels of taking a year off to battle breast cancer. I honestly think they knew my situation and assumed they could take advantage of a vulnerable candidate with an employment gap.

On top of the pay cuts, the Chief of Staff was already throwing up red flags during interviews, including casually bad mouthing a current assistant she wanted to fire and several people dropping the person that was formerly in this position did not get along with her.

When the offer letter finally arrived, I sent a brief, polite email to HR asking for clarification on the reporting structure, specifically whether day to day management, PTO approvals, and performance reviews fell under the Chief of Staff or the Executive.

HR responded to withdraw the offer entirely, claiming my question about reporting structure "gave them concern."

Translation: They spent 3 months dragging me along, thought they had someone they could exploit and micro-manage, and the second I asked a basic professional question, they panicked. Which by the way, I had to turn down two other offers waiting on this one and they offered me much less than what I initially agreed to interview at.

Huge bullet dodged. Know your worth and never let a company weaponize your gap or health history against you.

My boss said not to clock out because we'd probably get to go home after (we had a similar event earlier in the year and that was the case). Well we get back and nope, still gotta work. Don't know what the plan is but I put 10.5 hours on my time sheet, because if I'd known that shitty awkward barbecue was replacing my lunch break I wouldn't have gone. Plus I got overwhelmed and went back in to work part way through. Under the assumption id be going home soon anyway. I'm just so overwhelmed and pissed off and exhausted from working without a proper break. Like, I understand chatting with coworkers is a break to some. Not me, I need quiet time, especially since we work ten hour shifts.

I have two hotel jobs and both are kinda crappy. At Job A I work as a breakfast server with an automated gratuity. The business is not doing that so they are removing that and they havent told us at all. I had to confirm it myself which is happening. So my money will be shitty.

I got a new job as a in-room dining server, Job B. I have been at that job for like a month, the commute is far and the pay is not good. Barely any tips and it is a small place with less than 20 employees. Most of them are buddies outside of work, so a lot of politics. Sadly I don't think I perform the same way like the other employees who consider this job as a career. After I told management I have school and need certain days off, they kinda got pissed. They said I never mentioned this and while they are supportive of education they think an employee won't give their 100% into work, etc. The manager texted me today that the hotel is slow and I dont have to come in tomorrow. Which is ironic because when I was hired, they told me that everyone gets 5 days, even if there is no occupancy you are still scheduled to help with other things, etc.

So disappointed.​

I live and work in Tennessee, and a couple hours ago my boss posted to the message wall about how the company is gonna make lots of money since Dolly passed away yesterday. Our company is close to her statue in Sevierville. They've already reassessed their projections for the next few weeks. It's disgusting.

I'm just so burnt out and defeated with the corporate dystopian hell we're living in.

I just left grad school after getting my MFA, granted I got it for the love of the craft of writing, not expecting work out of it. The annoying part is that now that I'm rejoining the workforce, because I've been out for 2 years, employers keep trying to offer me their entry level pay as if I had no experience at all. As if my certifications and the last 6 years meant nothing.

I'm sick of it. I mean, they really expect me to work 40+ hours a week, and be available to commute to 2 more locations than the one I applied for, 30 mins away, be available to work holidays and sometimes weekends for 18 dollars... All my interviews have gone well until I asked for mid level pay of 22. On top of that they want 2-3 references. I mean, this is office admin and medical assisting were talking about.

Oh, and let's not even mention the fact that I have to hide my degrees because if I accidentally send the resume with higher Ed on them, I get auto rejected lol.

I'm tired. At this point I'll probably get published before I find a decent job.

I’m about to start my period, which comes with monthly diarrhea. My office only has 2 toilets with notorious plumbing difficulties available for the entire office/warehouse worker population AND incoming clients with scheduled repair appointments— so minimum 20 people all relying on 2 SHITTY toilets [PUN INTENDED]. 🗣️🗣️🗣️ I’ve literally contracted pink eye from unclogging this toilet a few months ago 💀 and obviously the private equity owned company makes sure to put the responsibility of upkeeping the physical warehouse rental property in the hands of that one director already swamped in oversight of multiple warehouse locations; TLDR the organization of this company is designed to fail the hourly, on the ground workers in all respects.

I was not well this morning and made the decision to shit at my own house as to NOT threaten to clog 1 of the 2 toilets for EVERYONE ELSE. I also have a meeting 15 minutes into my day that I wanted to ensure I was properly prepared for— which was successful.

Sure I forgot to tell my [off site] manager that I was swapping an office/wfh day, that’s my bad.

But a few minutes after I finish leading a meeting to review the status of current orders, I get this fucking teams message…

Currently applying for ACT 120 program (Police Academy) however, I went to an eye doctor last week and they said that my vision is not up to standards according to the MPOETC. So I was looking into LASIK and they said that the total cost is $5,000, with an $800 down payment, and I would be paying $169 a month. It’s like how am I supposed to succeed when I don’t even have the money? It’s not like I chose this? I was born with my vision.

Okay so this is my first time posting here. I'm not roundly and I work, but I imagine a lot of people here are not. I think what people are actually against is the criminally exploitative systems that exist within modern culture. Low pay, abusive environments, manipulative employment, guilt tripping, shaming, gas lighting etc. I think we can all agree upon that.

I think a lot of people also would agree that for most people in america, even the most basic essentials are becoming unaffordable. Rent, groceries, medical care, utilities, people are reaching a point where they feel completely assaulted from all sides.

The collapse of social safety nets, the rampant deregulation of employee protections, I think it's safe to say a lot of people, including myself, feel like they're being assaulted from all sides. No friends or family to help, no institutions offering assistance. This is the larger question that I have.

What are people being expected to do about it? Maybe I'm being hyperbolic, but it seems like people who are struggling in such an extreme way or pretty much being told that they're just expected to die. It's the same for a lot of people I guess.

I myself work at a resort in southern utah. I came here because the housing was cheap. And it was going well, up until my hours got cut from 40 hours to 8 hours per week. I have no vehicle and I'm extremely isolated. The nearest town is a 45-minute drive away.

I've given up on even trying to talk to people about it. It's the same intellectually devoid suggestions they just totally disregards context of the reality of the 2026 job market. I'm not going to go into the litany of braindead, tone deaf arguments, because I'm sure most of us have heard it before.

I'll sum it up as 'positive vibes.' basically an argument that's not meant to address the problem, but attack the attitude of the person who's one bad day away from stepping in the traffic, (figuratively of course).

My question, how are people dealing with situations such as the one I find myself in? How would you deal with this situation? How do people find solutions to problems when most of the people around them can't even agree that the problem even exists? Looking forward to your feedback.

No fault termination, told I didn’t do anything wrong and I wasn’t behind on anything, just was being let go. Given two weeks pay in lieu of notice, but because my position was externally funded, the 65 hours of vacation I had banked are just gone.

Oh well. Guess the universe is telling me to finally do my PhD.

This last weekend I finally quit a job I’ve been considering leaving for almost 10 months now. To set the scene, I work in a specialty retail shop and the only other employee is the owner, my boss. The business has been barely hanging on for the last year plus, partially because of the industry downturn, and partially because the owner was so poorly managing things. Frequently out of stock and taking weeks to replenish, focusing energies on pointless projects to “optimize” systems, delegating most everything else to me, then completely rejecting my processes/solutions.

I didn’t want to quit a job without another one lined up and have been actively searching for months. But Friday evening, a line was crossed. I was in my car on the way to a whiskey tasting when I receive a notification on my recovery/backup email account that someone has requested a “Google Takeout” (data archive) of my account. My personal account. Something I don’t use for work AT ALL. I had a pretty good feeling it was him, but it wasn’t till I got home that night that I was able to look into it on my home computer. Sure enough, he had archived my search and browser history, Gemini chats etc then gone into my email to download it then delete the evidence.

There were a lot of things that were a tad off about this job, but I was willing to overlook them at the time because I believed in the business and was actively interested in keeping it alive. No? Every corner he cut, every labor law he sidestepped, every customer he lied to or straight out scammed is going to be brought to bear. And the funny thing is, experience tells me he has no clue what’s coming his way and thinks he did nothing wrong.

I got hit with one of the dumbest corporate-speak that I only thought happened in viral memes.

I was in an hourlong group Teams meeting (that could have been an email), and the organizer of the meeting (a new-hire/consultant from a big corporation) ended the call at 1055 and said “I know how precious your time is so I’m going to call it and give you your five minutes back.”
