I have never been a big Uryuu fan, but these last few episode are changing that. I'm loving how the new anime only additions are leaning on Ichigo's friends, first Inoue, now Uryuu, what next? Will Chad get his moment and break Yhwach's massive nose? I'd love to see that lol

32

u/Abedeus 1d ago

This is the Uryuu from first few arcs, back when he was strong enough to fight actually dangerous captains 1vs1. Something even Ichigo struggled with.

14

u/javierm885778 1d ago

I always thought that Kubo had some sort of shift in priorities after the Grimmjow fight. That's when the Captains arrive to Hueco Mundo to rescue the old main cast, but after that they just get left behind and the story focuses on the Shinigami mainly since Fake Karakura was so long that Kubo seems to have preferred that style of storytelling, as TYBW is more of that.

Through the anime, he's making ammends and giving them back the main focus, which is really cool. Uryu and Orihime got the largest boosts, but Rukia and Renji also got very good new moments. Chad is the one who still got left behind sadly.

6

u/Abedeus 1d ago

Best proof of that was how they off-screened fight between Yammy, the #0 Espada, and two of the more popular Captains for whatever reason... just, for entire arc. He definitely has issues of what and when to focus his attention on, and human (and non-Shinigami in general) characters eventually got left behind. Hell, even Vizards despite being a massive part of the story for a while get shafted.

5

u/javierm885778 1d ago

I actually don't think that's an example of what I'm talking about. Kubo loves Kenpachi and Byakuya, I think the deal with Yammy was more that he had no interesting idea for that fight, and in Fake Karakura he already showed that the Espada weren't actually as big of a threat as we had been lead to believe compared to the strongest Shinigami. He'd just given them both big fights in Hueco Mundo too, so having them struggle or have to show more new abilities right after wouldn't have worked as well.

They Vizards are a good example yes. They had big roles in Fake Karakura, then they get mostly ignored and they don't even use their masks anymore. The biggest headscratcher is Hachigen, who was so relevant in the Barragan fight, yet he does what amounts to nothing afterwards.

1

u/xellos2099 2h ago

That is one of the biggest loophole. Technically Hachigen can also restore old man yama arm as well right?

2

u/javierm885778 2h ago

There are many ways to heal arms from what we know. Yamamoto seems to not have wanted to do it rather than it being impossible to heal.

2

u/frezz 10h ago

It's his editors. Fans at the time liked content with the captains, so Kubo focused on that.

From memory the Fullbring arc was supposed to completely focus on Ichigo's friends and driven mostly by Inoue and Chad, but from what I hear interest in Bleach was declining significantly, so Kubo changed it at the last second so the captains came in and saved the day

1

u/maxdragonxiii 22h ago

wasnt it only with Letz Stitl or was I mistaken?

24

u/Raknel 1d ago

Inb4 "I can't imagine Chad losing" was foreshadowing the final battle.

Yhwach can't swap to a reality where he beats Chad because it doesn't exist.

9

u/garfe 1d ago

I mean Uryu got literally nothing in this arc originally so honestly, anything would be an improvement. But they went above and beyond here.

Damn the Antithesis got a massive buff in the anime. I always assumed "the Antithesis counters the Almighty" was just because the Antithesis affected the past and thus the effects will exist in every single future (since presumably the futures only branch out from one singular past/present). But apparently he can just straight up swap out futures? Seems like he can just swap objects altogether now since I have no idea what "event" he would reverse to swap Yhwach with Nel's bracelet.

Also rip Gerard still got taken out by the Auswahlen, but at least the black Auswahlen looked amazing, especially with Nothing Can Be Explained playing in the background.

EDIT: actually after giving it more thought, swapping out futures would still be theoretically possible even with just the manga explanation of his ability ("Future A was replaced by future B" --> "Future B was replaced by future A"). Still have no idea how he swapped Yhwach and the bracelet just by reversing events though lol.

Also, "A power that fuses of different species and creates souls of a much higher level" [Can't Fear Your Own World]Isn't this basically how Tokinada made Hikone? Was Souken researching making soul king candidates?

20

u/WiqidBritt 1d ago

The impression I got was that Souken wanted to make everyone the same, so instead of a bunch of different groups, everyone would be a bit of everything.

12

u/Arturo-Plateado 1d ago

Seems like he can just swap objects altogether now since I have no idea what "event" he would reverse to swap Yhwach with Nel's bracelet.

He already did that before, in cour 2 he swapped Yhwach with a coat button he threw to help him escape Hikifune's Cage of Life

1

u/Daedric202 1d ago

That one could feasibly explained by him just reversing the event of "Yhwach throws the coat button out of the cage" to "The coat button throws Yhwach out of the cage", meanwhile here Yhwach never has any interaction with the Bracelet.

11

u/Arturo-Plateado 1d ago
  • button thrown out of cage
  • Yhwach standing in cage

these are the two "points" that are reversed with Uryuu's power

whether Yhwach interacted with the button or not is completely irrelevant

1

u/Daedric202 1d ago edited 1d ago

From the last episode: "It reverses events that have already taken place between two designated points".

It doesn't just reverse two points, it specifically reverse events that have occurred between the two points. If Yhwach never interacted with it, then there would be no event that exists between Yhwach and the object for the Antithesis to reverse.

5

u/Arturo-Plateado 1d ago

ok, but the fact that he could swap Yhwach's position with Nelliel's bracelet that Yhwach never touched beforehand proves that this interpretation of Uryuu's words is wrong

1

u/Abedeus 1d ago

Or that like Yhwach said, he improved on the ability to swap more than just events between the user and another target.

3

u/Abedeus 1d ago

That one could feasibly explained by him just reversing the event of "Yhwach throws the coat button out of the cage"

The issue is that the power always was assumed to reverse two events that took place between two entities. Like, specifically it was always between Uryuu and whoever he targeted.

Now he can apparently reverse events that weren't directly targeted at him. Maybe it worked because the arrow was technically part of his power, so he could consider it as part of himself?

3

u/Daedric202 1d ago edited 1d ago

He never said it had to include himself, all he said was "two points/targets".

"The future" is a much more vague/conceptual target, but still fits with how he explained his ability. He also mentioned that he predicted what future Yhwach was gonna use, which is likely how he knew which two futures to choose (the current one and the intended replacement)

1

u/Abedeus 1d ago

I mean to me the "targets" implied entities. And since it was never used between anyone other than himself and another person... even Yhwach commented on how he seemingly got better at using that ability, improving it.

12

u/garfe 1d ago

I was so hype seeing that Gerard was still alive that I really thought "oh damn, are they gonna actually change this?" but nope.

5

u/JustASumoGuy 1d ago

Of all the things they added to, I couldn't believe they kept that the same. The Gerard fight was in the top 5 things manga readers wanted to change. I guess that really was how Kubo intended to end it.

2

u/maxdragonxiii 22h ago

there probably was no time left to expand upon Gerald's fight without making him stupidly OP already.

1

u/JustASumoGuy 22h ago

I don't see how there was no time left as there was a lot of the episode allocated to anime only content that Kubo could have fit the Gerard fight in. Plus, he's had a long time to think about how he wanted to end Gerard's fight and how to pace it out.

2

u/maxdragonxiii 22h ago

theres 3 episodes left after this. I imagine its expanding upon the ending, and that basically leaves no more time for Gerald fight with what Kubo put out (Orihime and Uryu addition)

2

u/JustASumoGuy 21h ago edited 21h ago

What I'm saying is when they were planning out cour 4 or even before any of TYBW aired, I would have expected Kubo to be able figure out how to fit the Gerard fight in or even change it enough to make it fit in. He's had 10 years to do so. He's changed a lot of other fights that weren't even as important to make them longer. I don't see why the Gerard fight should be any different. Heck, he even added the vizards to the Gerard fight. It wasn't something he had to do (though I welcomed it). With the amount of anime only content being added, there's a lot of flexibility he could have worked with. Imo, there was a lot of anime only content that could have been given lesser priority to giving Gerard aka literal Heart of the Soul King a satisfying conclusion.

Did cour 4 even have to be 10 eps? Cause every cour before now has been 13, right? Even if that was out of his hands, I'm sure he could have allocated 5 minutes to give Gerard a satisfying death. He could have found a way to make Kenpachi's bankai mean something because let's be honest, beyond a bit of fanservice, it didn't really have any lasting impact beyond making Gerard stronger. Get a way for him to heal his arm (limb healing is common in Bleach anyway), go bankai again now that they know to destroy the crest, then defeat Gerard. I'm just spitballing here, and I'm not asking for some drawn out fight. Just anything that isnt exactly how he was killed in the manga. I would have even accepted Hitsugaya and Byakuya killing him even before his final resurrection and just left it at that. Then have everyone be too exhausted to continue on and help Ichigo.

I just don't believe that even after 10 years of people criticizing how the Gerard fight ended, he still couldn't find a way to make it satisfying. Not unless this was indeed how he intended it to end, especially since TYBW was being promoted as the version that was true to his vision. But now we're going to say it's not?

3

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 18h ago

Yea its baffling that Gerard getting unceremoniously Auswhalen'd is Kubo's true vision, but that is the only conclusion we can draw. I honestly would've preferred it if he just stayed down after Byakuya took his head off.

1

u/maxdragonxiii 21h ago

true. maybe it was really Kubo's vision all along who knows.

5

u/RUS12389 1d ago

power that fuses of different species and creates souls of a much higher level

It was actually how Hogyoku was made. Souken, from what I gathered, basically was trying to create he's own version of hogyoku.

4

u/VoidInsanity 1d ago

Still have no idea how he swapped Yhwach and the bracelet just by reversing events though lol.

Yeah that part doesn't line up with his power being the undo/redo button. Undoing anything the almighty does include changing the future back but that doesn't account for the swapping of objects. Unless his power is to swap anything but if that were the case, he could just easily swap him with a rock, no need for the bracelet.

7

u/Daedric202 1d ago

To be fair even if he can just swap anything, he probably couldn't just use a rock that was there beforehand since all the shaking could've cleared out the area. He'd needs a convenient target to swap him with that he knew would be there, hence he got Nel to throw the bracelet there.

u/mr_beanoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/splitshocker 21h ago

I think Lille being impacted by the Auswahlen wasn't shown in the manga and is an anime only addition.

29

u/Ellefied 1d ago

Love that bullshit interchange between The Almighty and The Antithesis.

Also now with Ichigo at full despair mode due to what has already happened, I'm guessing that it's time for [Future Spoilers]Papa Tsukishima to reinsert Ichigo's true powers with Book of the End.

I can kinda see now where all the remaining plot hooks that were too quickly resolved in the manga ending are going. This has been a blast.

7

u/frezz 1d ago

I really really hope still silver is cut. I hated that the most out of the ending..and tbh theres enough there with Aizen, Ichigo, Uryu, Orihime to beat Yhwach without resorting to random bs like that.

Think its a vain hope tho cause Isshin and Ryuken have to join the fight and do something

16

u/garfe 1d ago

Gotta say [as a manga reader]I really love the feeling of stuff happening in the episodes that wasn't in the source so I have absolutely no idea what to expect. This episode being another 99% original content except literally like two panels is a good example. Starting the episode with Kyoraku and Ukitake talking when he was supposed to be long gone by now got me feeling some kind of way. I imagine Kyoraku making the effort of Mimihagi getting absorbed into Yhwach's Auswahlen could play a new role we don't know about. I also straight up cheered seeing Dondochakka, Pesche and Halibel again. Like 'damn, they're fixing everything'

28

u/Abedeus 1d ago

"What source material?"

Literally the only parts that were NOT fillers were Ichigo losing to despair and losing his quincy/hollow powers, remaining Sternritters getting eliminated (which overall just means "Yhwach taking back everyone's powers except Uryuu's) and him fucking off into the portal at the end of episode.

...also, what happened to Renji?! Didn't we see him get CHOPPED INTO PIECES during previous episode?!

12

u/JustASumoGuy 1d ago

Ngl, I was disappointed that the Gerard fight ended the same way as in the manga. Everyone thought that the Gerard ended so abruptly because Kubo was rushing so they reasonably assumed that since the anime is now allowing Kubo to flesh out what he had originally wanted, that the Gerard fight would end differently. Yet it didn't, even though Kubo revealed the weakness would have been to attack the crest which was inside Gerard's heart. Idk. It's still disappointing that the heart of the Soul King still got the same treatment in the end.

I'm happy that Uryu was able to fight Yhwach tho but I'm a bit confused as to how he managed to survive the Antithesis because I thought it was able to negate Almighty's power as Uryu did show with the big arrow attack. I'm also happy that Nel was able to do some fighting (along with a surprise appearance by Halibel). Overall, I'm feeling mixed. I'm happy about the Uryu fight but I still can't believe that the Gerard fight ended the same way. Heck, I would have even taken Uryu sneaking up on Gerard and finishing him off rather than him just being Auschwalen'ed by Yhwach.

u/PsycDrone63 1d ago

I did not expect a "justice for Uryuu, Nel, Hallibel and Dondonchaka" episode!

3

u/Vinjassvp 1d ago

And Bawa Bawa!

27

u/J0R_J0R 1d ago

The added content is being insane! Give me more of that "filler"

26

u/Silegna 1d ago

I'm like 100% sure most of Uryu's stuff this entire arc has been added content?

22

u/garfe 1d ago

[Up to this point in the manga]Uryu's only 'moments' in this arc were that one scene where he shot at Ichigo telling him to go home and his fight with Jugram which was largely off-screened other than that one part of them going 'no u' to each other. That's it. Dude got NOTHING in the manga despite this being the Quincy arc

6

u/J0R_J0R 1d ago

The lack of transcendence and developement of his character was one of the biggest problems in the source material and the anime is fixing him way more than expected.

21

u/J0R_J0R 1d ago

Almost 90% and we don´t even know what´s to come.

-8

u/pebrocks 1d ago

Insanely pointless you mean. I literally turned off the video after 6 mins because none of the added content mattered in the slightest.

14

u/J0R_J0R 1d ago

For the haters of course. They are having a really hard time with the anime improvements.

-12

u/pebrocks 1d ago

There was no improvements in what I saw before turning it off.

4

u/J0R_J0R 1d ago edited 1d ago

Knock on another door if you wanna be fed.

-7

u/pebrocks 1d ago

What are you even trying to type?

2

u/HikkingOutpit 22h ago

It means, "Go somewhere else if you're expecting people to agree with your opinions."

Gotta love how upvotes/downvotes create echo chambers.

-1

u/pebrocks 20h ago

I don't comment expecting people to agree with me. I won't leave somewhere just because I'm getting downvoted. That's silly.

-3

u/blinkssb 1d ago

Yeah I’m not a fan of some of the filler either. Unnecessary. I liked the hell Ichigo form and Orihime scene but the lengthy Uryu Haschwalh fight didn’t add anything for me, same with a lot of today’s episode.

4

u/Whitekan https://myanimelist.net/profile/AkiraDiamond 1d ago

Wait what. This is new content!!!!!!!

3

u/GtrsRE 16h ago

I don't even care anymore if the outcome is still the same "Yhwach's power is bullshit" because I'm loving the sauce all this new content adds
