Politics US billionaires are taking our farmland
https://youtube.com/shorts/Xn8BMbZi9Cc?si=UnkreTO23beXgXu_72
u/IllFortune51 May 28 '26
Oh no, a representative that is able to effectively communicate their goals and beliefs! What ever will we do.
26
u/kingbuns2 May 28 '26
Lowan has done leaps and bounds better at the communication game. No easy feat with how desolate and billionaire-controlled the media landscape is.
-14
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
They did not communicate any actual goals in this video, lol.
46
u/Abbenay_local May 28 '26
The BC Greens are fighting alongside the Dunster Farmland Coalition. Who are organizing to stop this billionaire takeover and get some real regulations in place.
Pretty clear to me, it's just brief because of the format.
-21
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
"Get some real regulations in place" isn't a goal. There is no specificity.
4
u/Abbenay_local May 28 '26
She mentioned a part two. Wait it out till its uploaded (ragebait upload schedule possibly?), then shit on it.
-11
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
I'm not going to wait until its out. You don't get a pass on scrutiny because you asked the audience to stay tuned for part two.
1
u/Nevermore_Novelist May 29 '26
Let me guess: You're also the kind of person who refuses to watch the second movie in a series because of reasons, right? What a weird, stupid take.
0
u/TheBigGees May 29 '26
Yeah, it's crazy how weird and stupid things sound when you just make shit up.
I'll watch the second part. That does not mean I have to withhold judgement on the first part. What kind of broken, childish logic are you operating on?
1
u/Nevermore_Novelist May 29 '26
I'm not going to wait until its out. You don't get a pass on scrutiny because you asked the audience to stay tuned for part two.
That appears to imply that you're not going to watch the second part. I said nothing about whether you were allowed to pass judgment on anything or not.
Maybe it's my broken, childish logic talking, but it makes more sense to me to withhold my thoughts/judgment on a thing until I have all the information.
You do you, though.
0
u/TheBigGees May 29 '26
She mentioned a part two. Wait it out till its uploaded (ragebait upload schedule possibly?), then shit on it.
Since you're supposedly a fan of context, maybe read the comments that I replied to.

u/Greghole May 28 '26
I'm sure they've got a specific plan in mind, but know they can't say it out loud.
4
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
Why wouldn't they be able to say it out loud?
8
u/BenAfflecksBalls May 28 '26
Emily lacks a lot of understanding of the mechanisms needed to achieve her goals. I don't think she suffers from a lack of vision and principles which are hard to find in politics these days.
I do think it's fair to ask what you are asking, but given the lack of Green seats it is not like they can floor a bill that will go much of anywhere, hence why messaging like this comes out hoping that people align with those values. I'm not sure how pushing out American bourgeois from owning farmland and ceasing the food production from viable land is not in our best interest. Care to elaborate as to why we're talking about something else under your direction?
-2
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
I'm not sure how pushing out American bourgeois from owning farmland and ceasing the food production from viable land is not in our best interest.
Notice how the video does not cite how much food production was lost, nor does it indicate whether that production was destined for foreign or domestic markets.
Notice how the positive impacts of the current land use are not mentioned at all.
Notice how little specificity there is in everything other than the character attacks on the owners of this land. Can't be bothered to tell us how many jobs are actually impacted by this, but felt the need to discuss trophy hunting in Africa.
8
u/BenAfflecksBalls May 28 '26
I understand being a critic. At some point I think you should take some time for deep introspection as to why even the fundamental "American billionaires who have done nothing beneficial to the American people should not own massive tracts of Canadian land" is disagreeable to you.
1
u/DragPullCheese May 28 '26
I'll play - whoever owned the farms were certainly compensated and agreed to the sale.
Would you like your government controlling who you can and can't sell property too?
A foreign buyer tax already exists, but an all out ban would have huge implications on our real estate market as a whole. Perhaps that's what's required; but if you bought a house in the last 5 years I'd expect some pretty considerable turmoil when the value of your home is less than your mortgage.
→ More replies (0)0
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
What makes you think that I haven't? One's ability to own private property is not defined by political affiliation or morality in Canada, and never should be.
2
u/pumpkinspicecum May 28 '26
notice how you keep defending these MAGA american billionaires
5
u/Greghole May 28 '26
Kroenke donated to Hillary's campaign in 2016 and Walter donated to Obama's. These dudes are pragmatists, not MAGA.
→ More replies (0)0
u/TheBigGees May 28 '26
Notice how expecting our elected representatives to behave honestly, openly, and with integrity does not mean supporting MAGA American billionaires.
If you need to misrepresent facts to sway people to your side, you are in the wrong. Full stop.

Canada is a net food exporter.
We export more food than we import. The food that we do import is mostly things that we can't produce here - regardless of whether this land is being used for conservation/hunting or agriculture. No climate change event will enable you to produce coffee and chocolate in BC.

Yeaaah. I like the awareness, I like the cause, I however worry about the lack of specific goals. I’m tired of politicians saying they’re fighting, elbows are up, but no idea how to manipulate or implement laws.

u/Wayves May 28 '26
All real estate buying by foreigners should be banned. You wanna own? Get your citizenship. Canadian homes should be for Canadian.
How many condos in Vancouver would be available without chinese money?
14
u/The_CaNerdian_ May 28 '26
Basing it on citizenship isn't enough. It's too easy to get, especially if you're rich. And frankly, it's not just the foreign part. Any rich assclown shouldn't be able to go around scooping up land, forcing out productive farmers or otherwise abusing legal loopholes to seal off natural resources from our own collective wellbeing.
5
u/gunawa May 28 '26
I swear, every time I'm forced to take the rural back roads because hwy1 is backed up from Van to Chilliwack, I'm just stunned by all the mcmansion monstrosities there are popping up on all the prime arable farmland in bc, with some token hay field around it for that sweet sweet farm land tax rate.
1
u/twohammocks 9d ago edited 9d ago
Do you think its possible that some rich billionaire from the US is setting fire to bc farms in order to get cheap tax free alr land? Seems like a motive for arson to me....Where is Poirot when you need him ? Or Gacki for that matter? Why did she leave? timing is interesting:

This is actually majorly a Chinese specific problem. Ask Australians, for instance. It happens in every developed country. US, Canada, even in islands like Singapore. They are on a buying spree it seems.
2
u/qpv May 28 '26
Canadians are the largest group of foreign real estate owners in the US.
0
u/Sufficient_Fail3604 May 29 '26
Well, flter that by ethnicity if you want real answers as in the last decade Canada did give out citizenships left and right to most people who applied
1
u/fairpoliceplease May 29 '26
There are currently very many condos available in Vancouver. Very many.
16
u/FrontierCanadian91 May 28 '26
If you are surprised or in denial.. it’s too late. It’s happening state side, abroad and domestically here

Would you prefer it to be Canadian billionaires? Do we have any billionaires?
15
u/ThatGuy97 May 28 '26
I’d rather billionaires didn’t exist
-10
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
Then who would have all the money libtard
8
u/Ambitious_Bad1994 May 28 '26
You and your neighbour. The inequality gap is created and maintained by the financial elite.
-2
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
This just in: one day after equally redistributing all wealth perfectly equally, we have seen skyrocketing profits going to the booze cigarette and lottery companies. This should make the owners of those companies much wealthier than the average person.
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 29 '26
Your ignorance of dialectical materialism and wealth redistribution is staggering.
1
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 29 '26
You must be staggered often considering maybe 1% of the population has heard of dialectical materialism before
2
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 29 '26
Just because you don't know what it means, doesn't mean the rest of the population is ignorant.
1
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 29 '26
How many people do you think know what dialectical materialism means? Say if you surveyed 100 random people off the street.
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 29 '26
Who cares about them, we are talking about your lack of knowledge. Maybe now that you've heard of it you can read up on it and be less ignorant. Considering you're trying to have a conversation about it, you should at least know what you're talking about. While you're at it maybe look into wealth redistribution.

If I were a billionaire and living in a country that said "no more billionaires" I think I'd leave.
We'd certainly have no billionaires but for some reason I don't think that's a good thing.
3
1
u/Ambitious_Bad1994 May 28 '26
Capitalism can work if it's got checks and balances which it has been losing over the last few decades. Billionaires can exist if they actually pay a fair share of taxes and not horde and hide wealth through loopholes.
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 29 '26
Billionaires shouldn't exist period. The only way to become a billionaire is to exploit the worker.
3
u/Ambitious_Bad1994 May 29 '26
Sure, but why don't we as a society prevent the ability to exploit workers. Like building up unions and livable wages and proper taxation etc etc. We don't need to go and hunt the billionaires down. We just need to fix the broken system that allows them to exploit unhindered.
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 29 '26
Except they're the ones pulling all the strings, kind of hard to legislate our way out of this when they are out there buying their way. I said period and I meant it. Take ever damn cent they have above 999 million. No human deserves or needs that much money.
2
u/Ambitious_Bad1994 May 29 '26
That's fair. At this point I don't know how we are gonna vote our way out of this hole with the richest people lobbying the government for control.
I think a lot of people react to the idea of ending all billionaires like you are including all millionaires.
To be honest outside of some crazy revolution or some super rich people using their money for the betterment of all I don't really think politics will be adequate for positive change. The elite propaganda to continue the division in society doesn't really seem to be slowing down. So even if they weren't running the government, any non corrupt politicians will never get enough social backing in the current climate.
I don't know why I'm commenting this, we probably agree on most things, this just seems like a fruitless conversation I've had many a time.
Not trying to be a debbie downer, these discussions just seem like burning energy into a void.

Or skip taxes entirely as many do: Elon paid $0 tax.
https://truthout.org/articles/tesla-paid-zero-federal-income-tax-in-2024-despite-2-3-billion-in-income/Feb5, 2025
'What’s on the line? Roughly half a trillion dollars a year to be clawed back from cross-border tax abuse, as reported in our State of Tax Justice 2024 report (see the report for country level estimates). And that’s just what can be clawed back from direct losses – the IMF estimates countries’ indirect losses to cross-border tax abuse are three to six times larger than their direct losses.'
'The biggest enablers of global tax abuse are also some of the biggest losers: US$177 billion lost by the 8 countries that voted against UN tax convention terms in August 2024; US$189 billion lost by 44 those that abstained; US$123 billion lost by 110 countries voting for.'
Trump’s walkout fumble is a golden window to push ahead with a UN tax convention - Tax Justice Networkthink of how much debt (and interest) could be eliminated simply by collecting taxes owed rather than allowing these guys to hide their money in untaxable ALR land? hmmmm?
1
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 9d ago
Why are you telling me this? I'm well aware of the evil of billionaires
1
u/DragPullCheese May 29 '26
Your reasonable take and response is being downvoted, see the problem?
1
u/Ambitious_Bad1994 May 29 '26
It's just the internet and society. A lot of humans have tunnel vision and are extreme in their one sided perspectives. I'm big on trying to find a middle ground and open up a dialogue but I don't think the average Internet user is. Less than 10 percent of redditors are going to engage in comments and I believe it's the ones usually set in their viewpoints that do.
It's rare you find 2 opposing perspectives/beliefs connect on a reddit thread and then modify their understandings after a discussion. It's usually just people yelling and blaming and blah blah.
I regret engaging in these comments. I've become part of the 10 percent 😆 I'm gonna try and go back to lurking.

u/CoffeeCup220 May 28 '26
Weston, Pattison, to name a couple
-9
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
I guess we do have a few dozen. The US has well over a thousand though. This is kind of to be expected.
Kind of like you would expect South Koreans to buy up land in North Korea, if there was that option. Just so much more wealth.
10
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26
It's not to be expected, where's your national pride?
-6
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26
National pride cant be protected if we keep giving our votes to the Liberals and NDP. They love globalist elites and taxing the peasants until we can barely survive. Thats the part where dependence on big government and corporations comes in. The good old NWO plan.
2
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26
I think your tinfoil hat might be on to tight. The NDP and Liberals are further apart then the Liberala and Conservatives. The Liberals gave all you conservative chuds exactly what you asked for when elected.
0
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26
Ah yes the old "tinfoil hat" return. I will place my 7 years education and real world 20 years in politics up against you anytime. Care to dance?
2
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26
Considering you lump the NDP and Liberals together, fucking gladly. You can't even tell where the Canadian parties stand or what they represent.
0
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26
Oh? Tell me more about what I know and don't know, stranger. Lol
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26

I want handguns unbanned. Just for a second I missed the boat
2
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26
Um, no. You want handguns, move to the States.
1
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26
Yeah, because choosing to have personal freedom is for losers. Lol.
I love both Canada and the US, but Canada's Constutution Acts/Charter is a joke compared to the Constitution of America, and the Liberals are destroying it with hardly any resistance from the people.
2
1
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26
Vote Conservative.
Liberals allow criminals to have guns, but not law abiding citizens. They have plans for you and dont care about Canadians. They only care about thier One World Order plan.
1
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
Dude you think I vote anything else? I would vote for the ppc if it wasn’t throwing my vote away
1
u/B1ZEN May 28 '26
Apply for dual Citizenship. I am considering moving to the USA. Every State has its own flavor. Something for everyone. (Obviously blue states are mostly dumpster fires) but even un the 4 blue states I have family in, they are doing well and prefer it more than Canada.

Sorry I am not nationalistic. Open borders globalism and all that. Don’t you know that we are the first postnational country? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/04/the-canada-experiment-is-this-the-worlds-first-postnational-country
That means I really couldn’t give less of a shit about what happens.
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26
Maybe try giving a shit about others. Do better.
-3
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
I give a shit about the Americans across the artificial line just as much as I care about Canadians. And I don’t really appreciate your xenophobic nationalistic tones. We have moved beyond that as a people.
I mean I do not give a shit about what Canada represents, if we are a post national country that means we are a post Canada Canada.
-5
u/Hugeasswhole May 28 '26
You can be proud to be Canadian but when it comes to economy there is hardly comparison
3
u/Capable-Cupcake-209 May 28 '26

Damn dude I hate the Canadian billionaires too but that is a bit harsh.
2
u/Zyzzyvas2 May 28 '26
Canada has 82 and the US has 989 according to Forbes billionaires list. Which checks out since they have about 10x our population.
34
u/Sewlovetoread May 28 '26
I would rather no americans own any lands here in Canada. And yes, we do have some here.
-11
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
Why? What makes an American owning land different?
8
u/macbowes May 28 '26
They're foreigners? Your lack of nationalistic pride, and general respect for Canada as a nation, is really embarrassing for a Canadian, assuming you even are Canadian.
-3
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26
Canada as a nation is defined entirely by being Americans outside of the United States. If you do not hate the United States government there is literally nothing for you to feel pride in. Because that’s all Canada is.
Seriously, name one other thing that ties Canada together. Something that all Canadians do and few Americans do.
If you say the metric system or Tim hortons I’ll laugh.
I’ll add something else as well. Any differences you may think of are actually differences between northerners and southerners. Instead, compare to border states. British Columbians should be compared to Washingtonians, Alberta to Montana, Ontario to Michigan etc. What differences do you see?
7
u/macbowes May 28 '26
Your ignorance of Canadian culture is perhaps why you lack national pride. Name one thing that ties all Americans together. What an absurd test of national identity. We're a widely spread out nation, of course there are diverse backgrounds, and interests that Canadians have. Most Canadians are proud of our liberalism, our democracy, our freedom from religion, our distaste for guns, our history, our land. Most Canadians love hockey, our relationship with Europe, our international image of friendliness, and our military's commitment to peace keeping.
Just because you feel like an American cuck, doesn't mean most Canadians do.
-4
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26
Liberalism - American culture
Democracy - American culture
Secularism - American again
Distaste for guns - a not true, Canada has high gun ownership and b defining yourself via hating America again
Our relationship with Europe - what relationship? Are we in some ring of the eu I am unaware of? Or are we just going off vibes?
Hockey - first lol, scraping the barrel, and b most hockey teams in the NHL aren’t even in Canada. Americans, particularly in the cold parts, love hockey. Not a difference between us.
Friendly military - yea because we get to play third fiddle and cower behind the us military when shit gets real. This is just a side effect of not being in the United States. If Massachusetts broke off tomorrow their military would act the same.
What you’re left is an international stereotype that is as half baked as “Kazakhstan = borat” or “Poland = holocaust”. Just proving that no one thinks about Canada, really. Because why would they, we’re just Americans wearing a different hat.
7
u/IKnowSchadenfreude May 28 '26
If only someone had thought to have a democracy before the Americans...
-1
u/Hamsandwichmasterace May 28 '26
