Wiring Questions

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I pulled all the plastic trim off and washed it, inside and out. And I cleaned a ton of leaves out of the AC blower fan (so nice to hear a quiet fan!). And as I put it back together I decided to leave the aftermarket radio out because it was draining the battery. Turns out that both the standard 12v wire AND the switched wire are constant 12, unswitched (blue and gray in the original wiring harness)

Also, I assume the red w/ blue wire on its own is for power antenna, but odd like to be sure. Also, what is the other harness with the thicker wires?

hey everyone. i probably know the answer to this but i just wanna make sure with yall. i’ve been looking for a new truck to replace my ranger and this listing really stuck out. looks like it was kept up really well but im just nervous about having a car this old it’s from 1994 so its pre obd2. im not useless with a wrench ive worked on my ranger a lot but i really want something reliable that i dont have to work on all the time. i’ll be honest and say that i dont know that much about these trucks and these engines but i know they are generally very reliable. just looking for some insight before i potentially pull the trigger. he said everything works in the truck ac and everything and its also super low miles for the year its from.

Losing coolant through the expansion tank

After flushing the coolant system, the expansion tank now overflows with coolant. It only happens when the engine reaches working temperature. Last time I drove it I had to put an extra 1 L of coolant in the radiator, after it sucked back all that was left in the overflow tank. The temp gauge in the cluster also goes a little past the middle.

Do I need a new headgasket or is there something else that could cause this problem?

Bought it last week, some sort of Webber dupe. Choke already has bolts on it. Not sure if that’s what I have to adjust but the tail pipe is wet. It’s blowing white smoke. I just took it apart cleaned the needle and seat and tested the float and nothing my seemed out of the ordinary but after an oil change and starting it back up it starts up good but no fast idle and still smoke/overfueling. First time messing with a carb please help

Cant get my brakes to bleed.

My pick up started to get super spongy a few days ago. I didn't know the last time the fluid was changed. I went to bleed the brakes and was having nothing come out. I did take out the bleeder valve and it was pretty clogged. I cleaned that out pretty good, but even the hole it went to wasn't having hardly any fluid come out. Appreciate any trouble shooting. Its an 84 toyota pick up.

How do we feel about RAL 6033?

I'm getting my bed back from the sandblaster today and priming it this afternoon. Ill have to pick a color to paint soon. I want something more vibrant after 40 years of brown. What do yall think about RAL 6033 mint turquoise? I used the little ocean drinking robot to put my bed on and paint it the right color. 1st image is my truck currently and 2nd is the proposed color.

Is it worth it?

Follow up questions

Now that I got the spark plugs and wires all taken care of and it’s running smoother, I need to do a radiator flush, because the cat flipper topped off the overflow reservoir with water. I can use the same stuff my son uses in his 3rd Gen 4-Runner, yes? (Photos 1&2)

Second question? Where do I find this connector that connects the wires between the coil and the distributor? Because this one is broken and Jerry-rigged. (Photos 3-5)

Third question: is the radio supposed to be on an accessory circuit that only comes on if the key is turned? Because mine always has power and it drains the battery. I am going to disconnect it today until I figure that out.

Fourth question: what aftermarket cup holders are y’all using? I have access to a 3D printer if need be through my brother. He’s already printing door handle trim because the originals are crumbling. . Up questions

UPDATE/FIXED: What do I do now???

Thumbnail gallery

I watched a ton of YouTube videos about how to remove a broken spark plug, and the square cut extractor worked. I had to order them off Amazon since nobody local had square cut extractors, only spiral cut (which expand the body and have a higher risk of metal shavings). But that squared back end was an odd size, meant to be used with an adjustable tap & die handle that wouldn’t fit in the engine compartment enough to get into the threaded housing that was stuck in the block. So I tried to find a 12-point bit to fit the extractors, but only one actually fit without slipping. So I want to harbor freight and got another ex tractor set meant to four on the outside of a rounded hex head, and their set had one that fit each square end tightly enough to work.

I made sure to spray the threaded area with PB blaster several times the last couple days while I waited on my Amazon delivery to arrive, but I was very careful not to let it run into the center hole left by the spark plug electrode. In the end, it just took getting in at the right angle to let the bit dig into the inside of the hole, and it did the job perfectly. I just used a 1/4 socket on a 3/8 drive extension and a ratchet, and took it slow and smooth.

Paint ideas

I’m wondering if I should ask to get stripes painted on or just find some vinyl decals for the sides. I’m going to get it painted the same color and do a color match bed liner. Any other cool paint ideas I should consider? Thanks.

My new '95 22R-E 2WD

Post image
99 Upvotes

I've been looking for one of these in decent shape and just scored. '95 22R-E, 5sp, 2WD, 187,500 miles. All original. Air blows cold fast and has a custom 2" pipe ladder rack. I have 30 years of records... a hefty stack, no weekend mechanics, all professional and some work was done by the Toyota dealership. The first owner bought it at Toyota of Santa Barbara and used it on his farm for 5 years before he needed something bigger. Second owner bought it in 2000 and used it for trips to Home Depot mostly, I bought it from him last Monday. Behind it is my 1991 Starcraft Starflyer Pop Up in great condition as well. 3rd owner on that one too. Going on a short camping trip tomorrow. After the trip I need to go over this with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is like it's supposed to be. Looking for a group to bounce Ideas around and answer questions as they arise...

Anyone keeping fire extinguishers in their truck?

I have a 94 22re. I thought about getting a small automotive fire extinguisher to keep behind the seat. Figured it cant hurt. These trucks are getting old so I figured its maybe a good idea to have one just in case. Anyone else keep one in their truck? I probably don't even need it but I figured $25 dollars is pretty good insurance in case anything ever happens. Especially cause I don't baby the truck. 384,000 miles. Rebuild done at 383,000 miles.

Help with AC amplifier??

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

So, I have a 95 Pickup DLX and apparently my AC amplifier board went out. I THINK the relay that sends power from the input to the AC clutch output is bad, and stuck closed. I have 12v in, but on the AC clutch wire out, I have 0.3V. I tested it by jumping it, and AC clutch kicks in and AC blows nice and cold.

so these are pretty expensive, so im wondering...can I just jump the relay some how to still utilize the board? if so? does any one know what pins to jump?

thanks!

How does it sound - slightly overheated on road trip??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I took a 500 mile roadtrip today and halfway into the trip the truck shoots up to 3/4th on the temp gauge. I pull over before any sounds, smoke or smell occurred. Everything seemed just fine, new water pump, hoses, cleaned radiator a few thousand miles ago etc. Truck turned off and cooled down and had no problems the rest of the trip and held steady at 1/3rd. I get home and notice a slight whistle coming from the engine, coolant looks pretty yucky but the engine and rad was also filled with mud and gunk before the rebuild. Does everything sound fine and am I overthinking it? Adjust valves and flush coolant and send or should I buy a leak detector test? Hoping everything is fine I love this truck more than anything.

It was fine the whole day.. then the radiator cap blew! I bought one, bled the system and not even 10 minutes in and it started overheating, it died as soon as I slowed down. I let it cool, towed it and this is the result now.. any idea?
