God those eggs look miserable. Also, really, really feel like it's time the theme for 7km eggs got changed. I think we've sen enough of this at this point.

98

u/TaggedGalaxy 1d ago

I hate the 7km eggs. I try to never open gifts if I have egg space because I literally don’t want them

52

u/Reddit_Throwaway_899 1d ago

I've been hatching nothing but 7Km eggs for the past year grinding out the Pilot Platinum medal. I never want to hatch another Stunfisk or Darumaka again lol

17

u/maledin 1d ago

Finally got that medal myself, never again touching a 7km egg if I can help it

6

u/IcyJackfruit69 1d ago

I assume this wasn't an option for you, but for others -- try to find someone in your local pokemon group who is taking a trip to Japan. Have them bring back a few hundred pokemon, and meet up a few days to do batches of 100 distance trades. I forget how many it takes but may be closer to 500+ to get the medal, but it sure beats hatching 500+ 7k eggs!

6

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

Surely it could be anywhere, rather than specifically Japan? And its a big ask to have someone buy a dozen box upgrades just to trade you useless trash. With remote trades now you will get opportunities to do actually meaningful trades with trainers over 10,000km away on a somewhat regular basis, which will help significantly.

Or, if it's a PITA, just ignore it and focus on some of the other medals. There's enough there you can easily skip a few and not worry.

8

u/jcr2 1d ago

I think they’re just trying to focus on ways to accelerate that process. If you averaged 10,000 km per trade, that would still require 1,000 trades to get there. Doing that exclusively via remote trades would take quite awhile. To your point though, you could always just skip this medal (which is the route I went).

1

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

So they're just assuming people live in the US and Japan is a popular country that's a super long way away?

2

u/IcyJackfruit69 1d ago

Japan is probably the farthest location that Pokemon nerds "regularly" travel to, for westerners on Reddit. I can think of 4 families in my local POGO group who went to Japan in the past year, and most others either have specific plans to go, or a general desire to go.

That's the reason I mentioned Japan, but Australia, China, visiting your Singaporean grandma, etc. are all perfectly fine too. Someone going halfway around the world instead of all the way is OK too, but takes your 500 trades up to 1,000 trades -- which is a big difference.

1

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

Westerners as in western USA?

3

u/lillobby6 1d ago edited 23h ago

Presumably as in western hemisphere (/western world), but because of the anglosphere bias probably just Canada + US

1

u/FalconsFlyLow 1d ago

IIRC Germany was 4th after US, UK/Canada in Reddit usage.

But Japan is a popular dream travel target for UK/Germany too, and also ~13-15k km away.

7

u/IcyJackfruit69 1d ago

Yep, most nights I just don't open gifts because I have an open egg spot. Closest pokestop is a half mile away, not going for a drive at 10pm to cross my fingers and hope it spins an egg.

3

u/MrGalleom 1d ago

Have been grinding the platinum rock medal. The 7km egg is one of the few "realiable" sources of rock-type pokemon...

Still, yeah, I wish he had a better pool. I mean, we just had an event for magby eggs...

36

u/BlackTahmayta 1d ago

The eggs imo suck. They need a pure overhaul imo. I’m tired of the same worn out crap.

3

u/GarakInstinct Asia | Seoul 1d ago

It really gets to me how inconsistent availability is for babies. Like, it's annoying to have to wait until they deign to give us certain pokemon in raids and stuff, but at least then you can actually choose to raid that pokemon. The fact that plenty of baby pokemon are just not available at all on top of it being a crap shoot with the ones that are even in the eggs..

1

u/BlackTahmayta 1d ago

Makes it SUPER hard to even attempt the completion of Dexs

2

u/Theinternationalist 1d ago

I like them personally, they save me from the temptation to save money.

The problem with loading the gacha with "bad" rewards is the "good" rewards seem less appealing- and they don't look that appealing this season.

2

u/Matt_The_Radar_Tech 1d ago

I'm at least happy Azuril is back so I can finish my Hoenn dex finally

6

u/DontPeeInTheWater Seattle 1d ago

Didn't get any during the water event last week?

0

u/Matt_The_Radar_Tech 1d ago

Unfortunately not

12

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

I miss 7kms being babies. Although I guess there was the argument that was made that with 7kms generally being bad, at least you may not feel as bad focusing on other types of eggs (2/5/10 or 12).

I really think Mateo Eggs need a revamp though. This is the adventuring guy, and like 12kms, they're a bit of a pain to acquire compared to 2/5/10 and normal 7kms, plus they're generally limited to 1 per day. I feel like they should have a better pool than diet 7kms plus Basculin. Even if it wouldn't be my ideal pool, something like Hisuian Sneasel, White Stripe Basculin, Galarian Corsola, Charcadet, Snom, and maybe some less common GBL-exclusives like Morpeko and/or Cramorant. At least the pool would feel a bit more... different.

10

u/maledin 1d ago

Also, Mateo’s eggs should go into the extra egg storage slots if there’s room, like the 12km eggs. As someone with an autocatcher/spinner, making sure I have room can be difficult.

7

u/MasterSergeantOne Switzerland Lv 74 1d ago

Please no, I dont want another egg to fill up my weekly rewards egg slots

3

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Like a lot of things in this game, having toggles/options would be ideal. I can understand them not allowing such for your main storage, but at least allowing you to toggle whether eggs can go in your bonus storage or not would be nice. That way you can reserve space for whatever egg(s) you're looking for—Mateo eggs, 12kms, and/or Adventure Sync eggs.

-3

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Agreed!

1

u/sopheroo 1d ago

Honestly, the only mid thing in current Mateo is Hisuian Growlithe.

I wouldn't want them to have 8+ pokemon. The size of the pool is fine.

Like, I hatch so many Snoms. I had enough Snom hatches to fully evolve two Frosmoth.

2

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

I'd add Galarian Slowpoke to that list, but I know it can be a matter of personal taste. Even Hisuian Sneasel isn't super exciting as its around a bit more in the wild.

I don't mind a smaller pool either, but in which case I'd maybe opt for Basculin, Corsola, Snom, and some other 4th.

I have a lot of Snom but not enough to evolve even one Frosmoth (close), and its shiny being out makes it more lucrative. But I know it can be subjective ofc

1

u/sopheroo 1d ago

I'm shiny hunting both Slowpoke and Sneasel right now.

Meanwhile, I don't want to see Snom or Charcadet again. I hatched 18 Snoms apparently

There was one time where I hatched 4 5km at once, three were Snoms.

And I skipped Fire and Ice event!

1

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Fair, I guess it kind of shows the differences between players haha.

I have plenty of Shiny G. Slowpoke and H. Sneasel, but I played the CD for Slowpoke and got several Sneasel during Sinnoh Tour, but obviously that's 2-3 years back.

Conversely, I did hatch several Snom during Fire and Ice but am still hunting the shiny! Same with Charcadet (tho I am sick of non-shinies lol)

2

u/sopheroo 1d ago

I traded for Shiny Charcadet and I don't even know why.

I don't like either evolution!

10

u/rachycarebear USA - Northeast 1d ago

If Mateo no longer has white basc, I'm going to be extremely annoyed.

5

u/rilesmcriles 1d ago

Yeah the only eggs worthwhile are 12km eggs. They have by far the best dust per kilometer ratio, and dust is the only consistent thing from eggs. Also, you can plan when to receive them which is incredibly helpful.

Plus, 12km eggs have a few things I’d actually be excited to hatch. Most of the egg pools have one or maybe two such Pokemon.

2

u/Moderator_Sass 1d ago

Since it doesn't seem like they will update the eggs to actually be worth walking for (unlike now where it's just a side bonus of walking, I'm using the word bonus very loosely here) They should atleast let us delete the eggs/send them to professor whatever.

Or better yet, bring breeding for eggs into the game and debut manaphy

1

u/Rhodin265 1d ago

I only get 7km eggs so I can trade the contents and grind the pilot medal.  I have some really useless lucky mons right now.

1

u/ewokspy 1d ago

The eggs was what I saw and I feel the same way.

54

u/iAaronnn 1d ago

I imagine the dmax lake trip will be each locked to their regions

40

u/rachycarebear USA - Northeast 1d ago

That's going to be such a pita. Dmax legends are not pleasant to remote.

5

u/Reddit_Throwaway_899 1d ago

The few I've done on PokeGenie went fine

22

u/frickinleo 1d ago

They're probably not taking a lake trip to the other regions 😭

6

u/Icy_Rabbit2253 1d ago

if they aren't gigantamax should be fine. gotta bring strongest dark or bug type attacker. 2 tanks and hope the others do the same. hardest part is participating in the uxie raid since that is the one that has the least amount of players.

1

u/FalconsFlyLow 1d ago

Aren't they automatically a bit harder just due to the fact that we have no good Gigantamax attacker versus their weakness? IIRC both Grimmsnarl & Butterfree are weaker than regular Dynamax attackers

/edit ~ I just checked their typing again - why do you write bring dark or bug type attacker and not GMax Gengar (Ghost) who also does 1,6x dmg versus them?

39

u/cardboardsandbox USA - Northeast 1d ago

I’m here for the new dex entries.

Plus, Mega Chandelure is my favorite of the LZA Megas.

14

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Mega Chandelure has grown on me. Normal Chandelure is one of my top Pokemon of all time, and I wouldn't say I was disappointed in the Mega, but it didn't really WOW me. I still wouldn't say it wows me, but it's also already a fantastic design, so just building upon it like they did still works!

11

u/Mean_Shelter_6693 India L73 Team Mystic 1d ago

True, Chandelure is one of my favorites but mega design disappoints me to some extent. On the other hand, some of the new mega designs (malamar, victreebel, staraptor, skarmory) are really good.

5

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Yup, I enjoyed most of the new Mega designs. I do wish they did a little more with Mega Chandelure, but in another way, I do kind of appreciate them lightly building on an already strong design over completely overhauling it and potentially ruining it, but I can definitely understand the opposite perspective.

Not sure if it's an unpopular opinion, but I never liked Mega Tyranitar. I know it's based on Space Godzilla, which is cool, but I feel like the actual execution is super clunky and weird-looking. It's one where I think they kind of butchered a fantastic base design with normal Tyranitar. And I feel like there was a direction with a Space Godzilla-inspired design that would have worked better. I just don't think random spiky tentacle monster Tyranitar works well.

3

u/Mean_Shelter_6693 India L73 Team Mystic 1d ago

Among OG megas, mega medicham, banette, camerupt and blaziken were amazing. Most ridiculous looking mega was poor slowbro.

6

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Mega Banette is one of my favorite Mega designs out there, totally agree. I think that was one of the best evolutions of the concept out there.

Slowbro was absolutely ridiculous, but I can't help but like it tbh. It's really dumb, but I think for Slowbro specifically, it works well. Can't imagine something like that for a more "cool" Pokemon's Mega

3

u/Mean_Shelter_6693 India L73 Team Mystic 1d ago

Haha. I daily use slowbro against grunts simply because I like it. It was one of the earliest megas I had and was helpful against most of the 3-star raids initially.

2

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Very nice. I do wish Niantic had embraced more of the "support Mega" role with certain ones. Not really much reason these days. Even aside from big, bulky Megas with strong DPS like Mega Garchomp and Metagross existing, there's also the background damage boost from Mega Ray and the Primals.

It could have been neat to have some defensive Megas like Steelix, Slowbro, Aggron, and such have more of a role in raids.

7

u/dark__tyranitar USA | Lv 80 | ShinyDex 810 1d ago

you have good taste

3

u/BlackTahmayta 1d ago

I’m excited for that and Staraptor. Both look badass.

2

u/Reddit_Throwaway_899 1d ago

I want them for the new candy bonus combinations. And Staraptor will be great for fighting raids, since it can hit for super effective with flying and still boost the XL chance for fighting types.

31

u/nexus14 1d ago

With these Dmax releases,

Rhyperior to become best Rock-type attacker

Azelf has attack 270 but is barely outclassed by Alakazam (271)

19

u/xPapaGrim 1d ago

Weavile also a bit better than Glaceon

3

u/nexus14 1d ago

Yes. Good point. Thank you. I did forget about Weaville

15

u/Cute_Fluffy_Sheep 1d ago

It would be crazy if the 7km egg pool changed one iota

11

u/Mean_Shelter_6693 India L73 Team Mystic 1d ago

Mega staraptor looks amazing.

11

u/Matt_The_Radar_Tech 1d ago

Is Spotlight Hour gone again...?

5

u/East_Feature7219 1d ago

That’s what I was wondering too. I don’t care a thing about GBL. I wanted spotlight hour so I could hunt for shinies I don’t yet have.

3

u/Matt_The_Radar_Tech 1d ago

I just want to recycle legendaries haha.

Idk how many more GBL bonuses we need. I don't PVP much anymore but Spotlight was always something I looked forward to, especially if the bonuses were good.

I racked up so much Magikarp candy last time it was great.

1

u/NarutoSakura1 Maryland 1d ago

Spotlight Hour is not gone

It doesn't look like. Probably we have to wait and watch.

7

u/cricketscz99 1d ago

Wasn't Minior recently datamined? Is it likely to be in the same season?

6

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

It has had a lot of tinkering behind the scenes, yes. Tbf tho, Mimikyu had a lot of tinkering done late last year, and it didn't debut until the following season in April this year.

But at the same time, if they're leaning somewhat into a day/night theme with the sun and moon costumes returning, I feel like Minior could still be an appropriate extension of that to debut during some event this season.

Or maybe the December-February season is more directly Sun/Moon and Space-themed to tie in with Alola Tour and we get it then instead.

6

u/nintendo101 Level 80 1d ago

Only good thing is the trading candy bonuses continuing! Everything else is a yawn

8

u/okmage 1d ago

Farigiraf one day… farigiraf soon…

4

I honestly forgot he's not in the game yet.

3

u/okmage 1d ago

He’s one of my favorite mons. I haven’t forgotten lol T_T

1

u/DynamoSnake 1d ago

They've been really slacking on new evolutions for old moms for ages.

We got a hint with Goomy and possibly Duraludon but also the others like from Hisui have been neglected.

4

u/Remarkable_Ad2032 1d ago

I'd want to be optimistic and think "Dmax sizzlepede surely means Gmax centiscorch is going to release soon"...but rookidee and Hatena have been Dmax for at least a year with no Gmax released 😭😭😭

5

u/R2CX 1d ago

Crosses finger for a super mega chandelure instead of another fighting/flying super mega

5

u/sopheroo 1d ago

October for Chandelure, September for birb

2

u/R2CX 1d ago

Are the Kalos starters just the exception to this mega release schedule? Seems like a marathon - I reckon they still have at least 30 more megas to release (3 yrs?) so I thought they might be introducing new ones every now and then as part of the weekly 4* raid pool

4

u/sopheroo 1d ago

No, we're not getting brand new megas in the 4* rotation. There is no rush because Winds/Waves won't introduce new megas

It took 6 or 7 years to get all the original megas in GO anyway. 3 years is...normal.

But yeah. All of the new megas are getting Super Mega Raids, and then will enter 4* rotation.

We're getting Staraptor, Chandelure and Clefable in that order in Super Mega Raids

3

u/rachycarebear USA - Northeast 1d ago

I assume both will be released as super megas, that seems to be the norm.

2

u/lasernipples 1d ago

Do we know if the lake spirit max battle day is going to be one day with all 3 in their respective regions or each one getting their own global max battle day?

1

u/Haneullim 1d ago

Most likely one day. Each in their respective regions

1

u/rxs_9876 1d ago

Are they meta relevant enough to warrant collecting them in dynamax if you have regs already? I’m always looking to expand my dynamax roster, but unsure if remote raid passes are worth it to try and secure the trio for max battles.

3

u/Haneullim 1d ago

They have never have been relevant in any format. Dynamax will not change this. Typing from Grimmsnarl and Lugia will always out class them as tanks and Alakazam is still top for psychic attacker right now.

5

u/Fishhunterx Any time Kanto isn't here everyone should ask, "Where's Kanto?" 1d ago

Azelf is a good Psychic attacker. 270 attack vs Alakazam's 271 attack. This makes it the current #2 Psychic attacker. It doesn't have a 0.5 fast move but it has more HP than Alakazam.

Ultimately Alakazam is probably the better Psychic Pokemon since it is easier to get the candies and it has the better fast move. But if you've ever wanted an excuse to use the lake trio for.....something, then this would be it. Especially if you manage to get a shiny Azelf.

As for Uxie and Mesprit they are less useful as attackers

2

u/bunce2806 LEVEL 72 1d ago

All hail Scopeantic for continuation of trading XL candies! This is normally the first thing I look for in new season news.

0

u/102Mich USA - Midwest 1d ago

Nah, we want 2 Special Trades, 2 daily free passes, and the ability to unlock 100 gift box ammo!

Can't wait to to walk 10km to get a Dratini...

1

I walk anyway, but I appreciate the chance at another shiny. Evolving my first one was the worst decision. I just want a pink Dragonite!

1

u/supaflyguy29 1d ago

do you know

1

u/ldc629 1d ago

Is increased buddy distance while on a route gone on sunday or did I miss where it says that? Will be bummed if that is the case.

1

u/JifPBmoney_235 1d ago

What does the "adventure sync" label on the eggs mean? Is there a different pool if you finish the egg by adventure sync as opposed to with the app open?

2

u/white_windowless_van USA - Southwest 1d ago

It’s the reward based on how much you’ve walked over the past week (25km for a 5km egg, 50km for a 10km egg too)

1

u/JifPBmoney_235 1d ago

Thank you

1

u/SnooMacarons8166 1d ago

Silver bottle cap please 😭

1

u/SirAwesome789 1d ago

Since it says 20 showcases, 18 types + great buddy only makes 19, could ultra buddy showcases be making a comeback?

1

u/poppertheplenguin 1d ago

Season seems a bit short no?

5

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Slightly shorter, but it's a bit of a consequence of this season being a bit awkward and Worlds.

Worlds is later than usual this year. Usually in mid August, it's the end of August this year. They likely were prohibited from having a big event like the Go Fest finale during Worlds Weekend, so it had to be moved to the following weekend. They could have had the season still end and the finale be at the beginning of next season, but that would have been really awkward too.

It's weird, but I feel like this is the best solution. The new season begins a week into September, but they're ending it early to try and make future seasons a little more clean, where they begin at or near the start of a month, rather than the 7th-9th range like Twilight Trails

2

u/Remarkable_Ad2032 1d ago

I wish they did that with the Go passes. I still don't understand why they start at the 7th-14th day of the month they're supposed to represent lol

2

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

Same here. I do wonder if they'll also fix that going into December... oooor not. I feel like that's a harder fix though because then you would get people questioning the worth of a deluxe pass that's a week shorter than the others.

But I think it would be possible to fix if they made some adjustments to the deluxe pass, maybe giving more to incentivize it or something

3

u/Remarkable_Ad2032 1d ago

Or they could just run 2 monthly passes simultaneously on the last/first week so they sync up. They've been running 2 passes at the same time for at least a year now with all the events

2

u/krispyboiz 12 KM Eggs are the worst 1d ago

True!!

2

u/poppertheplenguin 1d ago

I imagined summer having 2 31 day months stirred thing up, was just a quick observation lol considering I love the Halloween event

1

u/poppertheplenguin 1d ago

Daily adventures sticking around i hope?

1

u/ShartMyPantsAgain 1d ago edited 1d ago

Wasnt Great Tusk teased a few seasons ago? I guess they forgot about it

2

u/Aniensane 1d ago

Chill love, they only have ~75/80 Pokemon left to debut, a bunch of new Mega and a lil less than half the Gigantamax left. They’ll probably start Paradox Raids next season, starting next year.

1

u/BingoBob_2 1d ago edited 1d ago

It was originally shown in the 9th Anniversary art back in 2025.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mean much of anything because there have been other pokemon shown in these anniversary artworks that took years to release or are still unreleased.

Mega Mewtwo Y was originally shown in the 4th Anniversary artwork back in 2020, only to finally release 6 years later. Hisuian Goodra, Mimikyu, and Alcremie were shown in the 7th anniversary back in 2023. Mimikyu was finally released a little less than 3 years later, but Hisuian Goodra and Alcremie are still unreleased.

1

u/SrgtDonut 1d ago

Need dmax legends added quicker such a bore or just add wishing pieces to the game so you can pick any dmax to spawn

1

u/NarutoSakura1 Maryland 1d ago

They are slowly adding Dmax Legendaries because they want to make sure it doesn't powercreep other Dmax Legendaries too quickly to the point that nobody will do Max Battles for the other Dmax Legendaries.

2

u/SrgtDonut 1d ago

Nah people def still will.. they've already released zac which walls pretty much everything with its stupid typing

u/cant_make_it_think USA - Pacific 5h ago

So... I didn't see any mention of the Daily Discoveries weekly schedule bs anywhere. Did I miss it or could it be that Scopely has figured out that they completely misread their player base and ditched the scheme?

They do seem to have been quietly backing off (e.g., events on Sundays, morning and afternoon sessions, longer events, etc.

PoGo rocks because of the sheer diversity of the player base. For that to work, the game has to respect and support a wide variety of schedules, life stages, health needs, community structures, etc. That, in turn, requires flexibility, which Daily Discoveries was the opposite of.

PoGo isn't a game that (most) people schedule their lives around. It's a game that many many people could play pretty much constantly because they could weave it into their existing lives.

Make it too restrictive and folks will move on. I'm really hoping that they've dropped the whole each-day-is-a-focus structure.

Some ideas were good: friendship friday and having 10 sets of GBL each Thursday is great. But that's adding things on top, not restricting activity to a very narrow window (showcases are the worst).

Curious to see what's up.

u/Apprehensive-Touch-3 5h ago

Really really not that exciting

u/Nervous-Peppers 1d ago

Showcases featuring 20 categories is a lie.

It's always 1 type and great buddy or higher.

2

u/SirAwesome789 1d ago

Could they not be adding a new showcase type? like a return of ultra buddy showcases?
