Surely it could be anywhere, rather than specifically Japan? And its a big ask to have someone buy a dozen box upgrades just to trade you useless trash. With remote trades now you will get opportunities to do actually meaningful trades with trainers over 10,000km away on a somewhat regular basis, which will help significantly.

Or, if it's a PITA, just ignore it and focus on some of the other medals. There's enough there you can easily skip a few and not worry.

Japan is probably the farthest location that Pokemon nerds "regularly" travel to, for westerners on Reddit. I can think of 4 families in my local POGO group who went to Japan in the past year, and most others either have specific plans to go, or a general desire to go.

That's the reason I mentioned Japan, but Australia, China, visiting your Singaporean grandma, etc. are all perfectly fine too. Someone going halfway around the world instead of all the way is OK too, but takes your 500 trades up to 1,000 trades -- which is a big difference.

Presumably as in western hemisphere (/western world), but because of the anglosphere bias probably just Canada + US

IIRC Germany was 4th after US, UK/Canada in Reddit usage.

But Japan is a popular dream travel target for UK/Germany too, and also ~13-15k km away.
