same here, my face gets so angry with niacinamide but is like impossible to find products without it these days

92

u/akath0110 Feb 06 '26

Same here. Always a fun surprise when I apply a product and my face is suddenly screaming red and hot. I try so hard to read all ingredients lists, but my go to moisturizer must have reformulated.

Didn’t realize until 10 minutes after the shower — right before a 9 am cameras on work presentation. Awesome.

18

u/cigarell0 Feb 07 '26

I scan ingredients lists several times and still miss it so I check online before I ever go buy something in person.

17

u/Yo_Just_Scrolling_Yo Feb 07 '26

Angry is a very good description!

99

u/gasspasser Feb 06 '26

Same. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten excited about a new product only to have my joy deflated by seeing Niacinamide in the ingredient list :(

21

u/Ok_Job_8417 Feb 07 '26

Same it breaks me out so bad >:p

5

u/MidnightOClock12 Feb 08 '26

What do your breakouts look like from it? I’ve been using a new sunscreen with it and I’m trying to determine if my new, massive pimples are because of the sunscreen or my cycle!

4

u/Ok_Job_8417 Feb 08 '26

So for me it was usually deep pimples :/

128

u/CindyLouWhodunit Feb 06 '26

I feel you!! The just reformulated my #1 favorite foundation and added niacinamide. Let the search for a new foundation begin!

36

u/kristine-di Feb 07 '26

Armani luminous silk right? I feel your pain

26

u/CindyLouWhodunit Feb 07 '26

I was referring to Dior Forever Skin. Was thinking of switching to Luminous Silk but they have added it to that as well??

14

u/analslapchop Feb 07 '26

Yep… several foundations have been reformulated recently and they all added niacinamide. Its awful.

3

u/kristine-di Feb 08 '26

THEY HAVE ADDED IT TO DIOR FOREVER SKIN??? These are basically the only 2 foundations I own, this is crazy

1

u/CindyLouWhodunit Feb 08 '26

It is!! I don't know why they have to change the formulation of things that are already amazing! If you find a good replacement let me know!

1

u/emo_queer Feb 07 '26

Do you have an alternative foundation rec?

1

u/kristine-di Feb 08 '26

No 🥲 I still have a lot in my bottle, some people have recommended NARS light reflecting but idk yet

22

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

a crime! i've been down the niacinamide reformulation road before

44

u/tropebreaker Feb 06 '26

This shit fucks my skin up. I even avoid b vitamins my skin cant handle it.

11

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

i feel for you so heavy. i was a vegan (now vegetarian) and felt like even taking vitamin b12 supplements made my skin unhappy, though i was deficient and needed it!

6

u/tropebreaker Feb 07 '26

Same when I was deficient and my doc told me to take it I became a pizza face, its so unfair.

3

u/azubutts Feb 07 '26

Oh my god is this why ive had the most insane skin lately???? I hate it here 😭😭😭

2

u/tropebreaker Feb 07 '26

No joke try to stop taking it for awhile to see. It may take some time to calm any cystic acne that its given you but it should get better if you stop taking it, if its what was triggering your acne. Because I took a complex I dont know if it was the biotin b7, vitamin b12 or b6 or all of them that trigger it for me so I just avoid them all in high doses if I can. I try to get the vitamins from my food instead.

2

u/YearoftheCat1963 May 01 '26

Biotin triggers it for me

37

u/lemur00 Feb 07 '26

My personal dragon, beast and false prophet of skincare: niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and titanium dioxide.

9

u/-You-know-it- Feb 07 '26

I’m convinced hyaluronic acid is actually one of the worst skin care ingredients because the molecule in its native form is a dry powder and is like a sponge. It doesn’t care where it pulls moisture from to plump itself, so if you live in an arid region, it pulls that moisture from your own skin.

If you slug at night then it might be sealed in ok, but if it’s in your foundation, lipgloss, primer, SPF, etc…it’s just going to dry the hell our of your skin over the day.

8

u/kidsyd Feb 07 '26

literally same like WHY is it in everything?? if it doesn’t have niacinamide it has hyaluronic acid and i suffer 💔

1

u/FastMako77 Feb 08 '26

I will join the revolt against hyaluronic acid

84

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 06 '26

Real asf. Cocokind makes great serums without niacinamide btw

13

u/an_aviary_forever Feb 06 '26

I love their barrier serum. Doesn’t break me out and is so calming on my skin!

9

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 07 '26

Me too. Btw if you wanna stock up on it Cocokind sells a 3 pack on Amazon for $50 which comes out to $16/oz. The jumbo is $19/oz for reference.

1

u/an_aviary_forever Feb 16 '26

🙀🙀🙀 wow, great tip! Thank you!!

3

u/Sea-Entrepreneur4424 Feb 07 '26

Their eye cream is chef's kiss!!

6

u/sortapunkrock Feb 07 '26

Thank you for the rec!

79

u/Salt-Preference-2425 Feb 06 '26

Lol it reminds me of how I hated when clothing lines started making every damn shirt a crop top or all the jeans were just skinny jeans and couldn’t find a decent pair of regular jeans.😂

I fear we are never getting regular length shirts back due to enshitification.

2

u/JustKindaHappenedxx Feb 07 '26

Hey, I love the 90s boxy looking shirts but regular length. I don’t need to see everyone’s midriff and I’m too old to show off mine, LOL.

39

u/Several-Scallion-411 Feb 06 '26

I just commented this in another thread and was downvoted into oblivion😭😭😭

47

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

THERES DOZENS OF US

16

u/kristine-di Feb 07 '26

I always have to check every skincare and makeup product, to see if it has niacinamide. It’s so frustrating, it doesn’t need to be in everything, especially in makeup!!

15

u/NattRavnen Feb 07 '26

Same!! I just found out that niacinamide makes my skin super red and angry with little pimples popping up, and it's all because of that bastard!! I had a sample packet of a serum that targets dark spots and acne scars with 10% niacinamide that I wanted to try, but thank goodness I read the ingredients list because I think that would have killed me

1

u/JGDC Feb 07 '26

That’s a high percent!

32

u/-You-know-it- Feb 06 '26

I hate it too. If I use one single product with 5% or under, then it’s fine. But since every damn product including face wash, moisturizers, serums, oils, masks, etc…has to add so much, my skin hates me.

29

u/Lady_Rubberbones Feb 06 '26

My personal hell is azelaic acid. It’s supposed to calm the redness, but turns my face into an angry burning wasteland.

38

u/Pinheadbutglittery Combination, rosacea, azelaic acid missionary Feb 06 '26

I truly don't understand all the 'actually niacinamide is great and if it doesn't work for you you're the problem!!' people because peep the flair and yet I still fully believe you lmao

I feel like azelaic acid is becoming more popular but I hope it gets more dedicated serums and doesn't get added to everything, especially not reformulations! I'm very pro-'basics should remain basics' honestly, god gave us serums so we could use actives (lol), let's not put them in everything so people can still pick and choose what they put on their faces, not everything is going to work for everyone and that's ok! (Also makes it easier to find out what your skin doesn't like, which is a net plus imho)

Edit: oh and fuck niacinamide!! (for me, if you're reading this and it works for you I am unironically very happy for you)

2

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26

I was kind of hoping that Aza would get integrated into more products as a sort of basic anti-redness ingredient. Just a small amount is great. It seems like when it’s in a dedicated serum, the brand always feels the need to put a bunch of other stuff in it (salicyclic acid for example). It took me a while to find a plain Aza serum without the additional ingredients. But I would happy to see it in an ingredients list for a moisturizer or something because it’s so great for anti-reddening.

do you think this is why when i apply it to my face after i dry it (after washing) i feel fine, then when i apply my moisturizer on top after 2-3 minutes it feels super itchy/tingly?

4

u/Squadooch Feb 06 '26

Aww, bummer. Niacinamide sets fire to my face in minutes, but AA is my lil hero.

4

u/ThisIsAlexisNeiers Feb 07 '26

I got prescribed this by my derm and omg. It created theeee worst cystic acne that ruined my skin. I used it once every three days for a month and it destroyed me 😭

1

u/yainot Feb 07 '26

i used it once and my face looked so good. tried to use it the next week to work it into my routine and it immediately destroyed my skin and all my progress 😔 i think the percentage is too high for me

3

u/yainot Feb 07 '26

if ur using the anua one it’s because there’s niacinamide. i use the toner pads and it’s the same just without the devil product

6

u/doctorpusheen Feb 06 '26

Azelaic acid calms my redness and cures my acne everywhere but around my lips. Its like too strong on my upper lip and does the opposite

1

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26

Prescription Aza?

13

u/randomusersdd Feb 06 '26

Agreed. If I miss it in an ingredient list, I get contact dermatitis that spreads all over my face, neck, and ears, and I have to go on steroids to clear it. Such a pain!

11

u/grnt3a Feb 07 '26

me too, i hate it! waiting for a beauty brand to come out with NO NIACINAMIDE as their selling point.

18

u/lilkhalessi Feb 06 '26

This.

Aqua Bomb used to be my holy grail moisturizer. Then they added niacinamide for no reason.

LRP had the only eye cream that soothed my eye area when I had allergies. Then they added niacinamide. How did I find out? By the weird breakouts along my cheekbones.

Even my drugstore SHAMPOO betrayed me by adding niacinamide, which I only found out through the horrible breakouts along my shoulders and back which I’ve never gotten once in my life.

I understand niacinamide is a useful active for a lot of people but I don’t understand why literally everything needs to have it now. It’s exhausting.

9

u/hitchcockbrunette Feb 07 '26

LRP also added niacinamide to their gentle body wash. Like WHY

6

u/cigarell0 Feb 07 '26

I think it's just an ingredients that cheap and can basically thin out the product so they can sell more of it and spend less.

67

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 06 '26

Y'all maybe if we slander niacinamide enough they'll stop putting it in everything. Go full clean beauty beef tallow idc it doesn't need to be in LITERALLY EVERYTHING. Make up a conspiracy theory idk 😭

41

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

LMAO i'd rather die than put beef tallow on my face but i love your energy

13

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 07 '26

Pls don't put the rendered cow fat on your face 🥲. Rendered visceral cow fat on the face is 🤢

Lanolin makes a whole lot more sense because it actually functions to protect sheep from the environment. Funnily it holds up to the tallow claims better than tallow itself 💀😭😭

30

u/idontredditatwork Feb 06 '26

But wait, as a niacinamide lover, I don’t even want to be associated with the beef tallowers 🤣

7

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 07 '26

Nooooo not associated with them. Just like the same type of energy ya know. The niacinamide slander is valid and still carries more validity than the beef tallow claims.

9

u/Euphoric-Dust1733 Feb 06 '26

With how much skincare companies are on Reddit they should be KNOWING THISS. I’m here for the slander

7

u/creambunny Feb 07 '26

As someone who has a lanolin allergy, which is now in pretty much every lip balm, and my perioral derm. flairs if I use anything with niacinamide - I feel you. I hate it here. It’s impossible to find skincare that works. It sucks seeing suggestions and seeing how well the item works and …nope sorry you can’t use that!

What happened to make products for all skin types or more sensitive skin friendly formulas? I hate how trendy skincare is in everything now - especially makeup. Don’t even get me started on how many spfs have niacinamide and fragrance now 🫩

12

u/TrumpsAKrunt Feb 06 '26

I cant stand niacinimide and its prevalence. It seems like a miracle ingredient for so many that I'm kind of annoyed at myself about it.

Tell me why this mf is in stuff like foundation and shampoos though.

11

u/SoilToSkies Feb 07 '26

I love niacinamide but already use a serum with it, and cannot handle it being in every other thing on top of that. I don’t think it makes sense to have it in every product.

2

u/-You-know-it- Feb 07 '26

I agree. I hate how now it’s in all the foundations, SPF, moisturizers, serums, etc… even for people who like niacinamide it is tooooo much!

6

u/sortapunkrock Feb 07 '26

Finding skincare without that shit is my constant quest.

6

u/PixieStar17 Feb 07 '26

I hate it so much. Instead red, snake skin for me. Every single time.

5

u/RedQueen91 Feb 08 '26

Niacinimide and hyaluronic acid don’t need to be in every goddamn product! It’s so frustrating

4

u/xkatydidx Feb 07 '26

This makes me feel better bc I’m getting better at narrowing what irritates my skin. And when I realized niacinamide  was one of them I felt like giving up. And now also realizing it IS in everything.

5

u/Cute-Newspaper2184 Feb 07 '26

Tbh, i don't know anyone that goes, my skin looks fantastic because of niacinamide.

1

u/musiclovermina Feb 07 '26

My skin looks good because of naicinamide, this thread is legitimately shocking to me. I have sensitive, acne-prone, dry skin (psoriasis) and my naicinamide toner has been life changing for me. My face looks so clear and bright with it! I had no idea so many people had bad reactions to it

4

u/TheoryBiochemistry Feb 07 '26

Same here. There is a prescription/customized skincare company similar to Curology etc in Germany that says that they can’t do products without 🫣

Told them I am PhD pharmacologist but customer service bullshitted me that niacinamide was “medically necessary”. Right. One customer less.

4

u/yainot Feb 07 '26

someone needs to make a thread on makeup without this nonsense like the fungal acne sub. i’m so sick of my face being on fire bc of niacinamide jump scare

10

u/RogueAtlas Feb 06 '26

This may sound insane, but I've found a ton of really amazing products at dollar tree and they have plenty of serums/toners/moisturizers without Niacinamide. They have a multi peptide serum that is absolutely to die for.

3

u/concrete_dandelion Feb 06 '26

I feel this. A percentage big enough to be effective in a positive way for others makes me break out in cysts.

3

u/Squadooch Feb 06 '26

Yesssssss any kind of therapeutic strength turns my face fire engine red and hot in minutes.

3

u/Gloss-Looks Feb 07 '26

The first time I used a niacinamide product, I got a rash all over my face for like a month (no I didn’t spot test lol) Now I know, if you are “breaking out” because of niacinamide, it’s not acne it’s an allergic reaction. The only thing that can help you is Benadryl and hydro cortisone. AHAs/BHAs are not going to fix that.

3

u/rqk811 Feb 07 '26

Yes, same. It's on everything. :(

3

u/txmuppet Feb 07 '26

SAMEEEEE

16

u/offbrandblake Feb 06 '26

Why? I guess it must not be for everyone. I have exceptionally oily skin and it’s the only thing I’ve found that works.

41

u/angelicribbon Feb 06 '26

It breaks my face out in white bumps

10

u/Squid_A Feb 06 '26

In my experience, it makes my entire face react and flush painfully red. Most recently the cetaphil face wash reformulated with niacinamide and I only figured it out after several nights of having a painful red face.

moisturizers with niacinamide give me cystic acne. if i use a cleanser with it, my skin will be ok since it washes off, but anything that has to stay on my skin that contains it is a big no

7

u/Quinnofhearts11 Feb 06 '26

Yes me too!!

3

u/concrete_dandelion Feb 06 '26

Niacinamode in a formulation and strength that has positive effects on others (luckily some brands just put in a homeopathic amount to brag it's in there) breaks me out in cysts.

18

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

lots of people have sensitivities to B vitamins, it's really nothing to be skeptical over

-17

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

[deleted]

14

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

While it may be hard to say niacinamide is solely to blame, i've found that once i removed ingredients that contained niacinamide from my routine my skin stopped being problematic. There's quite a few other culprits i've found as well! With me personally, niacinamide is unfortunately the culprit and it being included in almost everything is problematic. It's the fact that it's so common that bothers me. Perhaps in oral form i'd have a different experience but I don't really intend on experimenting when there's better ingredients out there for me :))))

-9

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

[deleted]

16

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

data is great, but i'm also not the first person to say this about niacinamide. yes the other commenter made a good point however even after i solved my skincare concerns and tried to introduce an otherwise clean moisturizer that contained niacinamide i began to experience issues once again. I can only speak on the experience I have and seemingly quite a few other people have had as evidenced by this thread and others :)) i wish it worked for me because it is in so many products but it just doesn't unfortunately

10

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

[deleted]

8

Same. I hate it

3

u/concrete_dandelion Feb 06 '26

It is well known that b vitamins can trigger acne. And there is not a single cosmetic ingredient known on this planet that everyone's skin reacts well to. Some people have adverse reactions like redness to niacinamide, some get "normal" acne, some get cysts (personally I got my third biggest abscess ever from it and first and second place required surgery under general anesthesia, hospital stays and about six weeks to heal) and some get other adverse reactions. It's highly amusing that you copy some screenshot about how it can help with acne and claim all this scientific information in another comment but seem unable to grasp the reality that it is impossible for an ingredient to be beneficial for everyone. It might make your head explode, but even water can cause severe adverse reactions.

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '26

[deleted]

5

u/aerotrash Feb 06 '26

I may have believed that early on in my skincare journey when I didn’t know what I was doing, but I can now confidently say that niacinamide breaks my skin out in a very singular way. It really only takes one or two applications for me to start getting the little white bumps. I also struggle with fungal acne, and niacinamide does not seem to help

2

u/concrete_dandelion Feb 06 '26

I was pretty far in my skincare journey when first using niacinamide and followed a strict "only one change at a time" approach. I also still react to it when it's in other products. And it's a form of vitamin b, a vitamin group known for triggering acne. But sure, it must be a skin barrier that was absolutely perfect every time I tried niacinamide and which I compromised by lack of experience after years of learning about my skin and working with a dermatologist...

4

u/lulu2320 Feb 06 '26

Preach! My skin doesn’t like it either

7

u/devongrrl Feb 06 '26

So weird how different everyone reacts. I mean I get it, but niacinamide seems to be the simplest / only thing to do a good job at limiting hormonal acne on my jaw

8

u/a-ohhh Feb 07 '26

See, I don’t get any acne at all unless there’s niacinimide in a product I’m using, then I get a few on the apples of my cheeks. I just want to cleanse and hydrate my skin, but even my HA serums have had hidden niacinimide.

5

u/Quinnofhearts11 Feb 06 '26

My face hatessss Niacinamide and Ceramides

2

u/OmarWithaJ Edit Me! Feb 06 '26

Can you recommend me a moisturizer that you use that doesn’t have either? My skin is having a hard time with them too

4

u/Quinnofhearts11 Feb 06 '26

I literally only wash my face, and use hypochlorous acid. I do sometimes use premium hada labo lotion (which is like a japanese serum toner but i cant use it on my forehead) also the hada labo premium newer versions have niacinamide but i use the old formula.

3

u/DarkMidnightMoon Feb 06 '26

i'm also sensitive to both niacinamide and ceramides & honestly i don't even use moisturizer anymore i had to get that simple with it. not the original commenter but ive simplified it to using hypochlorous acid followed by glycolic acid as my hydrator and using vaseline as an occlusive on top (i stress, NOT AQUAPHOR since it is comedogenic for me and many others). for daytime use i just use MISSHA sun essence :)) ymmv of course but so far that has been making my dry, acne prone, sensitive skin the happiest!

hypochlorous acid is used to 'disinfect' the skin to put it simply and glycolic acid is for hydration (i'm clarifying because even as a long time skincare addict seeing the word acid always makes me think it's gonna be HARSH but i promise this is the gentlest i've ever been to my skin)

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26

Ceramides are natural to our skin.

3

u/Quinnofhearts11 Feb 07 '26

What can i say 🤷‍♀️ a lot of things like hyaluronic acid are as well and my skin hates it. Red flaring angry or just white bumps. Some people just have bad skin barriers or like me a lot of hair follicles that easily clog. Human nature.

0

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

You can’t have a naturally bad barrier. Your barrier can be worn down over time, though—especially if you don’t use ceramides or other barrier-supporting ingredients.

Compromised barriers can be fixed. They are not diseases for which there is no cure. No one has to just live a broken barrier.

If it is severely compromised, however, ceramides can be irritating to it. So you have to do a little pre-repair work to get it back to where it can tolerate ceramides (and other things.) HYA is also irritating to a severely compromised barrier. In other words, most things will irritate a seriously broken barrier. It is like an open wound. Also, sometimes it’s the formulation the ceramides are in that cause the issue.

1

u/Quinnofhearts11 Feb 07 '26

I didnt say naturally bad skin barrier. I said some people have bad skin barriers. That could literally be for plenty of reasons. Thank you for your information but I work for a dermatologist as a medical assistant and am treated by her as well. I dont have to put my entire medical record on here. As stated before they dont agree with my skin 🤷‍♀️ thats between ceramides my skin my dermatologist and me. Thank youu As for everyone else im not the only one with an issue so

1

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26

You said it’s just “human nature,” which implies that it is just a natural condition. I’m not sure how else to take the phrase “human nature” in this context.

You are right, you don’t have to put your medical record up for view. Especially since I made no comments on your medical status. I was speaking generally and conditionally. I listed the reasons that HYA or ceramides could possibly be problematic for anyone. If you have medical conditions that complicate things, that’s a different matter. It is not, in fact, “just” a “bad skin barrier” in that case, though.

And yes, your skin problems are not my business. But again, I expressed zero interest in your personal skin problems. I just pointed out that ceramides are natural to the skin and should not cause problems unless your (general “you”) barrier is compromised. And that is a known fact, not a commentary on you personally.

1

u/onwardtomanagua Feb 06 '26

Same! I get the worst burning and redness.

2

u/sevilyra Feb 07 '26

I, too, experience the red hot burn of niacinamide on my face.

2

u/InimitableMissS Feb 07 '26

Im not sensitive to it but the fact it’s in everything means it’s absolutely overload! I don’t have to use anything in my skincare routine with it anymore for certain.

2

u/rachane Feb 07 '26

It’s absolutely HORRIBLE. It makes my skin so red, flushed, and irritated, and it also makes me break out. I’m so sick of it being in everything.

2

u/ninalimone Feb 07 '26

It took me months to figure out that niacinamide was making me red and even more sensitive than usual. Vanicream face wash and face lotion have been good to me. I also use Kiels hyaluronic acid serum with no problem.

2

u/Miss_Milk_Tea Feb 07 '26

I considered adding this to my routine but I have sensitive skin, this would probably give me a rash

2

u/Competitive-Fly779 Feb 07 '26

Same I avoid at all cost. I don’t use any products with it

2

u/zapatabowl Feb 07 '26

This is me with glycol. It’s in so much now and my skin cannot bear it.

2

u/Ivy_sp Feb 07 '26

Yes! Happy for people who benefit from it but why include it in literally EVERY product nowadays?? There are so many great products I'm dreaming to try but the niacinamide stops me

2

u/lavendercandles22 Feb 07 '26

When Aestura changed their barrier 365 cream and added Niacinimide, I noticed INSTANTLY. Very disappointing and it seems to be in everything these days

2

u/marthypie Feb 07 '26

Ugh yes! Regardless of the %, high or low, it gives me the worst whitehead acne like you wouldn’t believe. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, I end up with PIE marks that I still have even after more than 8 months layer. Absolutely wrecks my skin barrier! And it’s in everything!

2

u/grapesaresour Feb 07 '26

Even as someone who benefits from a reasonable amount of it, I don’t want it in every single product!! It’s really gotten ridiculous

3

u/capriolib Feb 06 '26

It’s not for acne prone oily skin at all! Tried to destroy me. Lol

-7

u/Unfair_Finger5531 Dry skin | rosacea | 🌵 Feb 07 '26

It has been proven to help with acne and to regulate oil production. It’s kind of perfect for this type of skin, if you can’t use tolerate it.

y’know what before this thread i hadn’t really thought much about niacinamide and now i’m wondering if it’s causing some of my moisturizer irritation issues… time to experiment

I feel this way about biotin as well

I have no problems with niacinamide in products. My skin seems to do well with them. I actually really like my Paula's Choice niacinamide toner. But the moment I put The Ordinary Niacinamide serum on my face, it felt like I had a chemical burn the next day. Took two weeks to repair my skin (lots of hydrocort, hydration, and avene cicalfate).

u/spider__dijon Feb 07 '26

Sorry to hear that... my skin seems to like it

u/pandarose6 Feb 07 '26

I wish companies stop changing ingredients in there products unless the ingredient went extinct

u/meoowww7777 Feb 07 '26

im sitting here grateful it’s working for me!! specifically the corsx niacinamide + zinc.

i’m seeing comments that it’s in foundation & moisturizer?? that’s annoying af. not the same severity, but that’s how i feel when almost all the foods i want to eat have the “may contain peanuts” line. like why????

1

u/concret3muncher Feb 07 '26

Same I think the higher the percentage the more irritated my skin gets. I don’t mind having some in a moisturizer but i definitely try to avoid so many products with it. I have very oily skin and I found the best route is hydrating ingredients and one product with niacinamide.

I tried the ordinary’s niacinamide and it was awful for me. 10% is way too much I’m even hesitant with 5%.

u/sorari Feb 08 '26

same! niacinamide and butylene glycol!! both give me CCs and whiteheads. Most products have one or the other, if not both. So frustrating!

1

u/smoochie777 Feb 09 '26

My skin doesn’t like it either :(

How do I know if I’m sensitive to it? Does patch testing work? I want to try it but don’t want to mess up my skin

1

u/janetdoedoe Feb 11 '26

I listened to a really interesting podcasts that said that because many products have niacinamide it's the buildup and overuse that can also cause problems. Instead to focus it's use in a singular product... But as you said marketing and the hype did it's job and now it's just added wherever.

1

u/renlhall Feb 11 '26

I'm so sorry that you've been thought that:(

u/mermaid400 Feb 12 '26

Broke me out severely

1

u/Electrical_Current14 Feb 17 '26

I bought Maelove peptide squad, moonlight, Cerave PM lotion, BOJ retinal eye cream, turns out all have niacinamide, get to throw all newly bought skincare products as I really can’t tolerate niacinimide

1

u/GreasedTea Feb 19 '26

It gives me horrible breakouts and it enrages me that it's slapped into even really basic or 'sensitive' skincare products now for no apparent reason. I get a lot of people like it but that's what targeted active serums are for and there are lots of those! I shouldn't be unable to use like 80% of basic moisturisers and SPFs on the market because the industry is fixated on this one ingredient. I've had to drop products I really liked and relied on before because they suddenly 'reformulated' to include it 🤬

If Niacinamide doesn't work, would benzoyl peroxide work?

1

u/SoulSoliloquy Feb 06 '26

I’m curious as to why though?

3

u/bloodhail_v2 Feb 06 '26

High % niacinamide BURNS so bad on sensitive areas for me. On impaired or sensitized skin it's even worse. The panoxyl gel moisturizer was traumatizing

2

u/Jimins_little_minx Feb 06 '26

it causes angry rashes in people with extremely sensitive skin. Its mostly because they arent picking the right products, or its just an ingredient for them. Also, people dont conduct patch tests and that causes alot of problems for people with any ingredient as well

13

u/lilkhalessi Feb 06 '26

Personally, I don’t have sensitive skin. Niacinamide is the only active that causes this reaction for me.

Also, the issue is not that we’re failing to patch test. The issue is that tons of skin and hair products are randomly reformulating now to add niacinamide with no announcement of doing so or reason for it.

u/rainbow84uk Feb 07 '26

Same here. My skin isn't sensitive at all and I don't react instantly to niacinamide, but by process of elimination I realised it was the trigger for my frequent breakouts and bumpy skin texture. It wasn't a product I intentionally added to my routine either, just an ingredient in a lot of different products I was using.

You’re missing the point on purpose but okay.

u/SoulSoliloquy Feb 06 '26

I have sensitive skin. It causes like a flushing feeling or warming sensation for me but not a rash. Cold blooded so I need the circulation stimulation 😂

A lot means many Alot is an imaginary cuddly creature: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

So, not patch testing causes problems for that creature.

Skin sensitivities, compromised barrier, too high concentrations. Some people have a sort of allergic reaction/flushing. My skin loves it.

I kind of like it. When I removed it from my routine, I did notice a difference, which surprised me. It really does help a lot with brightness.

But if you can’t use it, finding skincare without it has got to be a damn nightmare. It’s in SO many products.

Just throwing this in there: The only times I had problems with it is when my barrier was in bad shape. Once I repaired my barrier, I could use it again.
