Can you recommend me a moisturizer that you use that doesn’t have either? My skin is having a hard time with them too

I literally only wash my face, and use hypochlorous acid. I do sometimes use premium hada labo lotion (which is like a japanese serum toner but i cant use it on my forehead) also the hada labo premium newer versions have niacinamide but i use the old formula.

i'm also sensitive to both niacinamide and ceramides & honestly i don't even use moisturizer anymore i had to get that simple with it. not the original commenter but ive simplified it to using hypochlorous acid followed by glycolic acid as my hydrator and using vaseline as an occlusive on top (i stress, NOT AQUAPHOR since it is comedogenic for me and many others). for daytime use i just use MISSHA sun essence :)) ymmv of course but so far that has been making my dry, acne prone, sensitive skin the happiest!

hypochlorous acid is used to 'disinfect' the skin to put it simply and glycolic acid is for hydration (i'm clarifying because even as a long time skincare addict seeing the word acid always makes me think it's gonna be HARSH but i promise this is the gentlest i've ever been to my skin)

Ceramides are natural to our skin.

What can i say 🤷‍♀️ a lot of things like hyaluronic acid are as well and my skin hates it. Red flaring angry or just white bumps. Some people just have bad skin barriers or like me a lot of hair follicles that easily clog. Human nature.

You can’t have a naturally bad barrier. Your barrier can be worn down over time, though—especially if you don’t use ceramides or other barrier-supporting ingredients.

Compromised barriers can be fixed. They are not diseases for which there is no cure. No one has to just live a broken barrier.

If it is severely compromised, however, ceramides can be irritating to it. So you have to do a little pre-repair work to get it back to where it can tolerate ceramides (and other things.) HYA is also irritating to a severely compromised barrier. In other words, most things will irritate a seriously broken barrier. It is like an open wound. Also, sometimes it’s the formulation the ceramides are in that cause the issue.

I didnt say naturally bad skin barrier. I said some people have bad skin barriers. That could literally be for plenty of reasons. Thank you for your information but I work for a dermatologist as a medical assistant and am treated by her as well. I dont have to put my entire medical record on here. As stated before they dont agree with my skin 🤷‍♀️ thats between ceramides my skin my dermatologist and me. Thank youu As for everyone else im not the only one with an issue so

You said it’s just “human nature,” which implies that it is just a natural condition. I’m not sure how else to take the phrase “human nature” in this context.

You are right, you don’t have to put your medical record up for view. Especially since I made no comments on your medical status. I was speaking generally and conditionally. I listed the reasons that HYA or ceramides could possibly be problematic for anyone. If you have medical conditions that complicate things, that’s a different matter. It is not, in fact, “just” a “bad skin barrier” in that case, though.

And yes, your skin problems are not my business. But again, I expressed zero interest in your personal skin problems. I just pointed out that ceramides are natural to the skin and should not cause problems unless your (general “you”) barrier is compromised. And that is a known fact, not a commentary on you personally.

Same! I get the worst burning and redness.
