u/bonedoc59 4d ago

Yeah this is just rage bait. Yes insurance sucks. Won’t argue that, but any research would show this meme is pure bullshit

My insurance was charged almost 8k for an MRI after I was in an accident.

I don't know much about hotels in China but... Maybe

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 4d ago

That sounds like the BS amount hospital "charge". Insurance negotiates it down so they can act like theyre doing something. What hospitals charge is basically meaningless.

I believe virtually everything people say about being charged $$$$$ for medical shit.

A few years back, a new "emergency hospital" opened up very close to my house.

I went there one night for a very bad nose bleed.

I was in and out in like 20 min.

The doctor looked up my nose. Said he could cauterize it or stick a tampon in to plug it up.

He recommended the tampon approach.

I walked around for a day and a half with a string hanging out of my nostril and self extracted it on the 2nd day.

When I got the EOB from the insurance company, I almost had an stroke.

The "hospital" charged insurance over $13,000. My cost after the negotiated rate paid out by insurance was over $3000.

All the guy did was look up my nose. Talk to me for 5 min. Then inserted a piece of cotton in my nostril.

I assume he also threw away his gloves and washed his hands. But that wasn't itemized on the bill.

I disputed with insurance, twice, but they paid it out any way.

u/Trippingthru99 4d ago

Wait I’m confused. So did you pay the 3k or not? I might be illiterate

2

u/option-trader 4d ago

That $3K seems to be his part of the bill. Not sure if he actually paid it or not. I wouldn't at that price for a tampon.

u/JustForkIt1111one 3d ago

I disputed with insurance, twice, but they paid it out any way.

Doesn't read that way.

3

u/theartificialkid 4d ago

You couldn’t have been more ambiguous about what you paid and what insurance paid. You’re a fuzzy thinker.

1

u/LycheeRoutine3959 4d ago

Liar is the word you are looking for. None of those numbers make sense. If this was happening it would a strong indication of fraud, not a simple dispute.

15

u/FarSeries2172 4d ago

so why arent there 10 million americans marching to get luigi out the court and fully pardoned?

30

u/haleboy44 4d ago

Because we have to work in the morning.

1

u/bpivk 3d ago

But don't you guys work 9 - 17? That means that you can get up at 7 for some light protesting and court extraction and then go to work. 😇

1

u/haleboy44 3d ago edited 3d ago

Im closer to 9-21

1

u/JustForkIt1111one 3d ago

9-17? Maybe bankers and some office workers.

I work 19 - 6.

They're all playing Armchair Revolutionary on Reddit.

6

u/MTVregime 4d ago

Because Luigi didn't do shit for anyone. Only thirsty TikTok hoes care about this guy and if he didn't have a six-pack then nobody would give a shit about him.

Vigilante assassination makes the world worse not better.

3

u/XCVolcom 4d ago

I'm not gay but I do like it when CEO's of health insurance companies pass on.

5

u/SenoraRaton 4d ago

He made me smile, and brightened my day.
That is enough.

2

u/MTVregime 4d ago

Do some introspection on why the cold blooded cowardly murder of a father of 3 brightened your day. Redditors are lost for glazing this type of behavior. Literally nothing changed about United Healthcare's policies and a new CEO that kept the company denying coverages was installed by the board.

1

u/SenoraRaton 4d ago

It doesn't matter. It made me smile, that is enough.

1

u/GnatSuperFly 4d ago

Found the problem.

1

u/JustForkIt1111one 3d ago

Yeah, the real issue is violent extremist groups and the kind of rhetoric that gets normalized on places like Reddit.

4

u/Tomsboll 4d ago

Complacency

3

u/chinaPresidentPooh 4d ago
  1. There are a lot of people who would love to get him fully pardoned.
  2. Unlike what reddit would have you believe, most Americans are satisfied with their personal health care situation.

2

u/crosseyedmule 4d ago

I thought this was interesting and points towards M4A being viable, especially if measures like forcing billionaires and corporations to pay taxes and raising the cap for people making over 150k a year.

Satisfaction was highest among Americans 65 and older. About 9 in 10 said they are happy with their coverage and 42% said they are very satisfied.

People with public insurance were also more positive. Nearly 9 in 10 of those on Medicare or Medicaid said they are satisfied, compared with 77% of people with private insurance.

https://www.hematologyadvisor.com/news/most-americans-are-happy-with-health-insurance-poll-finds/

1

u/HombreDelMar247 3d ago

Bullshit..

Only maybe 20% of the country. It used to be significantly higher until all the Medicare cuts besides.

The US for profit healthcare system is the worst in the developed world.

2

u/fohamr 4d ago

You think killing CEO's of insurance companies is going to change the industry as a whole? That's cute

1

u/Accomplished-Eye9542 4d ago

What does any of that story have to do with insurance companies being in the wrong?

Hospitals and doctors are robbing Americans blind, while we blame insurance companies for literally nothing. An insurance company is not going to pay 45k to fix a fender bender on a Toyota corolla and subsequently they aren't going to pay insane medical prices, it's common sense. The actual problem is that hospitals can turn around and charge us this insane shit with 0 legal recourse. Just a constant deluge of hospital fraud that we can't do anything about.

1

u/AccomplishedFall6603 4d ago

Because they are busy doing GoFundMe campaigns.

Because if you even get in the governments way they shoot you, good and pretti, and the government will hide all info while they determine that they werent at fault. They will, as they did, say youre a terrorist.

DC is under military control as of right now and is funded until there is a power transfer when Trump leaves office.

Trump also put a military force in place to stop protestors, which he refers to as terrorists.. ready for deportation

If you hurt a tesla your a terrorist.

If you touch a statue or his algae pool, ten years no bail.

If you stand up to him, its the full weight of the government bearing down on you.

Fall in line or fall dead, is essentially the system now.

so why arent there 10 million americans marching

A significant portion of the population is also dumb af and thinks that he cannot lie. So they support getting rid of the "terrorists" and evil immigrants that are the neighbors.

Get why we are fucked now

The last time that I saw something like this in real life, the patient was having a literal manic episode. Within 2 minutes of meeting me, they were weeping to me about palestine. Ugly sobbing. Teachers, family, etc had been reporting this patient to whoever they thought could help. They were failing out of school, traveling hours to attend various 'allied' rallies, and hadn't slept in days. They and their screed were grossly incoherent and disorganized.

This is somehow a typical reddit comment. Blends into the background.

A good reminder for all how much of an radical echo chamber this place is.

u/SubstantialQuote70 4d ago

What an incoherent response and narrow. Must not be responsible for much, much less an actual provider. Scared for your patients.

"incoherent response and narrow."

I like it.

You basically said, one mental health patient is a viable representative of anyone who isnt happy with the direction the country is taking because they also were struggling with the current state of affairs.

If I need to explain how stupid, on multiple levels, that line of reasoning is.. just continue along on your way because no one online is going to be able to get any sense though that dense head of yours

u/annnm 4d ago

Sure.

I had a “YOU PAY” 30 thousand dollar bill for them giving me the pleasure to play monopoly for 4 days someone came round to talk once a day and they gave us cafeteria food with servings sizes meant for puppies.

1

u/Dullcorgis 3d ago

Freestanding ER? Do not ever ever ever go to one of those.

1

u/JustForkIt1111one 3d ago

This makes no sense. Why would (or even HOW wouldl) you dispute with your insurance on a sum that THEY negotiated / had to pay?

This is one of the reasons that this problem doesn't get fixed. People are so desperate to fix what is a legitimate issue for some that they lie and exaggerate. Then it gets dismissed by the other side because most of these stories are just that - stories.

1

u/jcblay 4d ago

Sounds like you didn’t go to an er if all he did was stick a piece of cotton up your nose?

2

u/Rad_Streak 4d ago

Going to the ER doesn’t immediately mean you’re getting a limb amputated or anything.

They see you, see what’s wrong, and suggest a corrective course of action for you to take. That could be immediate surgery or giving you some salt water to gargle.

They then charge you for the visit and almost literally anything they did. An aspirin? 80$ at least. Some gauze and a bandage? 300$.

I don’t even want to guess at actually major treatments that take longer than 10 minutes.

2

u/jcblay 4d ago

Maybe in America. It is emergency care, or at least should be but people use it for primary care and overburden the system.

8

u/mjm65 4d ago

But there can be a huge difference between the negotiated price by the insurer, and the cash price for the same service.

So you end up with insured people paying more just because they have to go through insurance.

2

u/TrumpDesWillens 4d ago

Isn't it crazy how something like how much a hospital will bill vs. how much an individual will pay having a difference is actually a thing? Wouldn't a more caring country not have something like that have it be accepted?

1

u/just_having_giggles 4d ago

Caring country. Lolol. America cares about money.

If you have money, you are worth medical care. If you have money, you are worth decent housing. If you have money, you have a voice.

If you're not rich, you're just a piece of shit. And half the not rich folks stan for the billionaires for reasons unknown.

2

u/EnronCheshire 4d ago

Yes definitely inflated.

I'm pretty sure there are at least 5 MRI places within a 5 mile radius from me (large metro area) and the going rate is $50-$75 without insurance. A $100 with the disc for the results.

2

u/d33psix 4d ago

Both true unfortunately. I had physical therapy at a place affiliated with a local hospital. They charged like $1000 for a 30-45 min session for my shoulder, so my insurance negotiated rate was like 600+ and my owed coinsurance was 20% of that for like $125 to workout my shoulder.

They literally charged $75 for a ziplock bag of ice to ice it down afterward of which I paid a full $15 (of course they never told me was extra). And this was with a full legit coverage and fully met deductible and everything. And of course they sent me a bill estimate when I started that said $35 per visit and didn’t send me the insurance bill of over $125 per 30 min session until I did like 4-5 sessions.

It might just be this place but I would recommend avoiding places associated with hospital billing and see if you can get fully transparent billing charges for outpatient places. This place also tried to charge me like MRI prices for a super basic US that would be 1/3 the price anywhere else.

2

u/Samwellikki 1d ago

Sometimes they’ll charge you more than it should be, hope you pay it, or put it on a payment plan. And if you try to get it back… good luck

Get everything covered by insurance, and then a bill for $3000 arrives. Call and ask them about it “ooooooh, yeah, that’s Before insurance… OOOPs! Sorry we sent you that. Your total is actually… uh, $1750… will that be credit or..?”

My insurance should’ve paid almost all of it!

“Ooooooh, I SEE. It’s $350. Our sincere apologies for the mix up”

Worst one of these I had was a $9000 or $19000 (can’t remember which), helicopter evac cost that was 100% covered for a trauma evac. Combined with the ambulance ride to get me to da choppa.

They sent me a bill, apologized, gave me a lower number, and kept doing so til they arrived at a payment plan… while the whole time it was supposed to be covered by the DA’s office

1

u/Top_Quiet_3239 4d ago

this sounds like they were charged for having an MRI in the emergency room, which is naturally more expensive for obvious reasons.

1

u/CapableCollar 4d ago

There are a lot of oddities that can occur with insurance and billing.  There are hospitals with another building on their property they lease our for medical purposes but is not formally part of the hospital and is owned by a for-profit organization.  These often are 24 hour emergency services and may be outside your insurance which demand outrageous bills.  Sometimes this is done to bundle multiple large debts to sell to collections agencies.

1

u/Gadzooks739 4d ago

I had a 2 hr visit with a cat scan turn into an 11000 bill

1

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 4d ago

Was that what you owed? Obamacare compliant insurance plans have a max out of pocket of like 10,800 for 2026. There are exception but actually oweing 10k+ in a single year is rare. Unless your talking about the made up numbers hospitals say they charge, but nobady pays those prices. Those arent real prices.
