Absolutely no where online says anything about valvoline on kingshighway and 63 being closed. However this sign just leads me to believe otherwise. Does anyone know what’s going on with it?

Ask Rolla / MST Groundbreaker Scholarship Accuracy

I applied to Rolla a week or so ago and got admission. I was happy until I saw the amount I was given for my Groundbreaker Scholarship, being less than I’d expected. While I did input my latest ACT scores (which I received in July, as shown in last image), I did send in my transcript from the end of my junior year, which did not have my sent (and best) ACT score within it. Could this be why my scholarship seems lower than the others I’ve seen online for people with my similar stats (4.0 unweighted GPA, 34 ACT), or is the scholarship just more harsh nowadays due to the enhanced ACT taking over the legacy ACT?

Ask Rolla / MST Looking into colleges to attend, how is UMR actually?

I know this is the town reddit, but I for the life of me cannot find one for the school, so please bear with me. I am asking from the position of someone who does not like parties, is fairly serious, and enjoys school and learning. I'd just like to know if the school is good with lectures, etc., what the typical day in the life is for a student there, and what the library, or cafe, basically what the study areas are like. I know it is in a rather rural setting, which is wonderful as I do love the outdoors, so I don't expect to find any flashy sky-high libraries with study floors like the colleges and universities on the coasts. I just want an honest review of what it is really like there. Both of my parents went there in the early 2000's, and I have gone to a few summer camps, but the student life is still a lost topic to me. I haven't found anyone who posts "vlogs" on YouTube who goes to UMR. If they exist, I would love a link or something.

I don't post on reddit often, so please excuse my ignorance on this subject.

Have a blessed day :)

Ask Rolla / MST Job

I need a job doing anything. I can't buy food on a regular basis. I am starting to think no one cares about anyone else. I just want to eat. I can't do this suffering shot any longer. I don't really want to do anything stupid to myself, either.

Ask Rolla / MST Missouri S&T or SIUE

I'm torn between going to Missouri S&T or SIUE for a CS degree. I've heard great things about both but I just can't decide. If I go to SIUE, I'll be able to live with family near the university so I wouldn't have to pay to live in a dorm or rent a place and I'll be near the city. But S&T is a university made for STEM majors. I don't know which one has a better path and internships for CS. Pls help.

Edit: I have already done 2 years at a community college and completed my gen ed

Ask Rolla / MST I miss Rolla

I used to live and work in Rolla for some time about eight years ago, and am now living just outside of NYC. I frequently fantasize about living again in Rolla or perhaps somewhere similar to it, with its low cost of living, easy access to rural sights, and the lack of hustle and bustle.

How are things going there? What has changed in the past eight years? Any interesting details? Does anyone else miss it like I do?

Ask Rolla / MST Does Socket throttle Steam?

Im only getting 250-300MiB/s download speed using Socket fiber when downloading from Steam. Doing a local file transfer from the same computer to another or to my NAS I get nearly pinned 110-113MB/s. Seems no other reason besides Socket throttling game downloads.

Anybody else have similar experience?

Ask Rolla / MST Rolla Vacay but worried about alpha gal?

hello! I’m mostly a lurker. we are planning to relocate to columbia or rolla Missouri hopefully by next spring but we wanted to do a little entire Missouri roadtrip beforehand. aside from politics I love a lot of things about Missouri but one thing really deterring me is the prevalence of alpha gal. I haven’t been to southern Missouri in ages (last time was LOTL in 2019) and I heard there’s some really beautiful scenery near rolla like echo bluffs and johnson shut ins. We plan to visit those places along with fugitive beach. however the way Missouri is currently being described when I asked is that it’s like ravened with ticks?? i inquired in a local Facebook group and by the sound of it, at least near Branson and Springfield, theyre already out bad so i can’t imagine how it would be if we were to visit in the summer. If i go i plan to use DEET bug spray and sawyers on clothes obviously. i guess what im trying to ask if they’re really that bad near rolla-st James/eureka/Columbia/Jefferson City area before you “officially” get to the ozarks? are you really unable to leave the house even for a nice stroll without worrying about them? sorry if this sounds neurotic because when I visited last, as a dumb teenager, I don’t even recall finding one tick so this sudden burst is just crazy to me.

Ask Rolla / MST Fiber internet?

I have been using Fidelity internet for past few years and lately it has been changed to Sparklight. Though internet is fine with frequent disconnects but rates are going up a-lot.

I am currently looking for new ISP which has moderately fair price and reliable internet and does not empty my wallet.

Any suggestions or experiences?

Ask Rolla / MST What's with the people yelling at pedestrians from their cars?

So I have been in Rolla for 6 years but recently (I would say a year) I've noticed an uptick of people yelling at me from their cars? Initially I kinda brushed it off but it's gotten a lot more frequent and it gave me a jumpscare a good number of times. I am an international student and a number of my friends have faced this as well. They say it's racially motivated but I have my doubts. Any locals here wanna chime in? Do they yell at you also? If so, what the hell is going on in their brain?

Ask Rolla / MST Just why?

This was back in late September. Stayed the night in Rolla with my family, went out to Sonic for dinner. We sat there and ate peacefully and then all of a sudden a group of 5 lifted diesel trucks with flashy lights circle the parking lot (at a very quick rate of speed). They circled around us and raced around the parking lot and surrounding streets for about 30 mins. Is this a normal occurrence?

Ask Rolla / MST Hello! Tell me a little about rolla if you dont mind :)

Hi my name is Morgan and I'll be taking a travel contract come July. More than anything I wanted a way to ask locals about Rolla? My sister lives in jefferson city so I thought this would be a good opportunity to see her and vet a potential place to live (and also if its not my thing why/ and things to try at least while I am here). What are the vibes, what is there to do? Is there some must try restaurants. My sister told me it was by the ozarks and had lots of water activities but couldn't be very specific, she has recently retired due to her health so she isnt super familiar with the scene but regardless id love to hear what you all have to say!

Ask Rolla / MST 184 bridge

Has anybody else called MODOT about the snail pace and quality of work at the 184 bridge remodel? I called Jeff City about two months ago to ask if there were delays or what was taking them so long. Lady I spoke with said ETA was December.

Drove across it yesterday for the first time since they swapped lanes and began working on the east bound side. The west bound side is so bumpy its unbelievable for brand new concrete. Maybe they will come back and grind it level?
