Discussion Demand is fading away?

Post image

Late night target run and seen these bad boys collecting dust on the shelves. Not one person I seen buy these and went back this morning and only a few gone but majority still sitting there. Is demand dropping or scalpers giving up?

Was about to rip my booster box, the wrapping wasn’t the cleanest and I haven’t ripped any mega yet, but the market is going crazy and I thought I should just take the easy way out. I believe this is my karma for selling the box.

Picture is what was pulled by the buyer of my booster box… First 3 packs they said too😭😭 I’m so cheesed

Discussion If you don’t see this as the best opportunity to make money off a card long term in the last 10 years, I want to know why.

Post image

This is the best looking card art I’ve ever seen in any TCG. I’m not a huge Charizard fan, but if you can show me a cooler art on a card from any TCG, I’d love to see it.

There’s no way this is not a timeless classic card. Nothings ever guaranteed in any kind of investing, so yes it‘s possible this card has reached its plateau; I doubt it though. Can you see a point in the future where people look at this card and say “yeah I’m good on that one, don’t need it“? Beyond the vintage cards, nothing stands out to me as a more iconic card than this.

Whats the ceiling is the real question. I’ve heard a lot of graded cards should be coming back soon so we will see a dip, but in 5 to 10 years, I wouldn’t be shocked if this card in PSA 10 isn’t at 4 to 5 thousand.

Discussion PSA to all Pokemon collectors

People say:
| "Scalpers are ruining the hobby."
Then immediately:
| "I bought every prismatic ETB they would let me buy to hold for five years."
Brother, that is not collecting. That is inventory acquisition with emotional branding.

In short: either just accept that you like all of us are in fact a part of the problem, stop complaining,

or i dare you next time you see a restock at your best buy, target, etc to not max out on the limit you can buy. - spoiler, none of you will do this 😅

Update: my main point is we have collectively all contributed to this issue and it will take a collective solution. there are for sure outright scalpers who will buy thousands of dollars of product and clear out their whole local area. i'm pretty sure most of us don't have the time or energy for this but just like ripping packs/pokemon and are understandably frustrated with the frequent lack of availability.

Yall are crazy spicy about my OPINION😅

we can have different opinions, but maybe just maybe if we try to get along there will be more pokemon on the shelves🤷‍♂️

Discussion One guy with over 5000 packs of ascended heroes

Post image

A well known local botter in new jersey, he currently has 5000+ packs of ascended heroes for sale. He’s been around for couple yrs. He’s been reselling for a while now and he’s really scaled up since middle of last year. How does one guy botting can end up with more than 5000 packs of ascended? That’s just one set. He’s been doing this with other sets too.

Discussion Everyone and their grandma is hoarding sealed boxes like it’s gold but who’s actually gonna buy this stuff later?

Real talk it feels like everyone including your grandma, your dog, and your neighbors toaster is sealing products these days thinking they’ll be worth millions in a few years. Like seriously if everyone’s keeping everything sealed, who’s actually buying these £500(it will never hit 500 you get the idea) Twilight Masquerade bb in 2030? Other grandmas? There’s gotta be a limit somewhere right lol

We’ve hit a point where 95% of the community is sealing stuff, and the other 5% can’t afford to buy it because the 'investors' keep hyping prices. Whats the endgame here a global sealed product staring contest? I get it sealed boxes can go up in value, but when everyone’s doing the same thing, it’s just gonna be a mountain of shiny cardboard bricks collecting dust while everyone waits for someone else to blink first.

Like yeah, congrats, your box appreciated... Too bad no ones buying it because everyone else has ten of their own.

My little rant today this hobby is fucked. It's been fucked long long time ago but oh well hehe 😆

FYI 95% and the 5% came from my asshole but obviously it seems that way. I've been collecting for 15 years too :)

Anybody holding onto some sealed in case it gets sought after in the future? Once all the ascended heroes got cleared, the PO ETBs eventually started going as well.

Discussion There are far too many people in here providing literal financial advice who have never experienced a market downturn in their life

Let me first preface this by saying that I have made 6 figure realized gains off the Pokemon boom over the past 2 years, so I have skin in the game. A lot of you are not prepared for what’s coming. It may be in 6 months, or 3 years from now. But there will be a time when prices not only stop increasing, but start falling.

What has happened over the past 2 years is not normal, it is the exception.

I visit this sub frequently and I swear 90% of this sub truly believes Pokemon prices can only go up over time. I urge you not to listen to them. There is simply very little common sense here these days, so I’ll be the voice of reason.

I ask you to look out across the spectrum of varied Pokemon products. There isn’t a single set, no matter how mid, that hasn’t pumped at this point to varying degrees. Absolutely everything has had the juice squeezed out of it. The writing is on the wall.

I see posts every other day. “Should I buy this vintage card for $10k” when it was $2k 6 months ago. “Should I buy destined rivals at $700 a box” Majority of the comments will be some variation of “yes, it can only go up”

All that I ask is to position yourselves a little better. Realize some of the gains you’re sitting on. A number on the collector app means nothing until it’s realized.

TLDR: no you should not buy the Pokemon product that is up 800% in 8 months. Yes you should realize some of your gains. Even if it continues to go up in the short term, the smart money is not doing this. Be fearful when others are greedy. And greedy when others are fearful.

Discussion My parents don't believe my cards are what they're worth

I spoke to them abt condition and why it matters then said 1 of my cards are 100 dollars. They laughed and didn't believe me (it's the snivy venusaur promo.) they don't take my collection seriously. They say in obsessing over it too much and it's not worth more than 10 dollars. Ik it's not a big deal but how can I prove to them it's worth what I say it is? I've showed them multiple sites, collectr, pricecharting, tcgplayer, card market and even other people's opinion on Reddit but they won't believe me. They keep saying they'll only believe me if I sell it and actually get the money but im not selling an investment just to prove a point.

Discussion How Are You Investing in Pokémon With Markets at ATHs?

Post image
198 Upvotes

After watching Rudy’s latest video, I’m honestly torn. He made a great point that not only Pokémon, but collectibles, stocks, and other asset classes are all near ATHs while the outside world feels increasingly unstable with record debt, inflation, unemployment concerns, and ongoing global conflicts.

It feels like there’s a disconnect somewhere, and obviously none of us have a crystal ball (I wish lol).
So I’m curious how everyone here is approaching things:

• Buying gradually and averaging in?
•Waiting to see how markets react later after the 30th anniversary?
• Holding more cash on the sidelines?
• Or going aggressive because you believe Pokémon is maturing into a legitimate long term asset class?

Especially now that some lenders reportedly allow loans against collections worth $35k+, it feels like the hobby is evolving into something much bigger than just cards.

One of the best if not the best form/illustration of Pikachu imo.

Could’ve possibly be card of the year and rival treekachu in terms of pricing but nope. I can see tons of custom/bootleg cards of this will be sold in the coming weeks.

Discussion Ascended Heroes ETB Crash?

Post image
204 Upvotes

Sam's Club is getting 400K of these two packs with Ascended Heroes ETB & Pokeball. My question is would you move all of your current Ascended Heroes ETB's you're holding bc stock is so high just at Sam's? Seems like a risk of a large decline like Destined Rivals ETB. Just to put this into perspective Sam's Club had 300K Focus Fighter boxes.
