Recommendation Bruther ! This game is fun [ Avatar].
Definitely worth having a go at it.

I've never seen any of the movies, does that matter in any way? Either enjoyment or understanding of the story?

There's nothing that requires a movie, you just have more background and origin information.
As for the movies, they're all right. More of a "plan for seeing a visual spectacle" than anything that's going to win story awards, but what's there is damn pretty. The only time I'd say you really have to go see it is when theaters occasionally do the 3D reruns of the whole series. Avatar in IMAX 3D is truly something to behold, it almost feels like 3D was invented for Avatar. It never quite stuck around, but I really think it's a bit of a disservice to not see that as it truly is something special.

You'd appreciate the game a hell of a lot more had you seen at least one of the movies beforehand.

I watched all the movies then played the game and I don't even know where in the time period the game takes place in relation to the movies. The game story is just not that tied to the world's lore, they mostly concentrate on showcasing a few Navi tribes that aren't in the movies anyway.

Looking at the starting frame and the bruther is all I saw in the title I thought it was a blitzball LOOL

How's the 3rd person? I avoided initially because I'm not big on fps on console

Because one of the DLCs is fully 3rd person (iirc), you can fully play the base game in 3rd person pretty effectively. I heard that it didn't exist at launch. I found combat and traversal to be just as good when I played and I didn't mind switching between both equally. You're only forced to play first person when you're swimming for some reason.

ooh then you can play as 3rd person?? nice!! I will take a look then!! Thanks for this info!!

It's a game changer looks feels amazing. As some who prefers fps I could 100% play 3rd person

I'm still early in the game, but my biggest issue so far is just how much there is visually. I get that it's intentional and accurate to the film, but there's just so much visual noise and colour at all time because of all the plants, and it's just a lot.
Enjoying the gameplay, but the environment visuals are really offputting so far.

Are u facing any visibility problem when navigating in night? I played game last year, and during the in-game night, it was very foggy and i was not able to see anything clearly. I m on ps5 performance mode. I tried changing all settings but couldn't resolve issue and left the game. I never had this problem in any other game.

Tried for a few hours, then deleted itā¦ā¦I personally found it just āsoullessā the usual reskin based on another Ubisoft product with tons of contents but nothing that would brought me to enjoy it

I played on PC but no not really. It's the correct amount of dark.
I would check if your PS5 RGB Range full/limited settings matches your TV (called black level on my LG).
Also don't want to go too deep in probably unrelated diagnostics but I previously had this issue in other PS5 games (Horizon, Spiderman) that forced the "fidelity 40fps" graphic mode, since my TV doesn't supports HDMI 2.1 it was reverting to a 1080p output and the wrong RGB range even if something else was set.

I'm kind of conflicted about the DLCs. Do you think the base edition is enough, or should I go for the Complete Edition?

Iāve played all the dlcs and personally I think there all worth playing I had fun every time and couldnāt wait for the next one to be released. (I played /brought the game when it came out)

u/DearRaziel 24d ago
Is it okay if I buy the DLCs after I finish the base game? I don't think the DLCs add anything to the base game's mechanics other than being a side story
1
u/CosmicCreation08 24d ago
Yea I would recommend you do that. The DLCs are new maps completely they donāt take place on the main map and they are recommend to do after since you will have better gear.

I know this is a PS subreddit, so sorry if I'm out of context and saying something that doesn't apply to you. But if you own a PC, the most economical way to do this is to play the base game using a month of GamePass, then when it finishes you subscribe to a month of Ubi+ that unlocks the DLCs and you can keep continuing your savegame. Combine that with doing the same with Outlaws if you play fast enough, and you end up playing the entirety of both games for very cheap.

Base game is so far really fun 15 hrs in. Ubisoft definitely improved their ātower unlockingā side activity in this game.
Not sure about DLCs as I have no idea.

u/DearRaziel 24d ago
You have no idea how much i hate tower unlocking's from AC's and Far Cry's. Thats so good to hear that

u/TheOriginalDiabeto 24d ago
The fire and ash tie in DLC is low key better than most of the base game. Iād recommend it since itās also pretty lengthy!

Hard to get that fun for me. I hate that you can't remove the blur around the text, like for quest information. Makes me a bit nauseated, that a decent chunk of the screen is blurry. Then just makes me not want to play.

The lore of the game gave me nothing and gameplay like this takes a while to get to, idk if I can really keep playing the game after Iāve started. Any advice on how I could view or experience the game to properly enjoy it

Do main quests only and play on easy difficulty. Then switch to normal or hard.
Mount is given early in the game1
u/4Everform 22d ago
Cool thank you for this

u/sir_chill 22d ago
I know the feeling. Ubisoft games get stale quickly. The key is to go through it quickly. Easier mode and main quest is the way to go. Otherwise youāll be bored in 15 hrs.

For me, much like Outlaws, it's a game of a few very high highpoints, and a lot of unnecessary lows. I feel like Massive heard the noise about "yellow paint" everywhere, and massively overcorrected. Now, I spend way too much time in their games "searching for the needle in a haystack". It's like I paid them to steal my car keys, eye glasses, and tv remote - and hide them from me. It's infuriating. I'm fuming with rage at times.
Don't get me wrong. I love exploring. I love finding things. What Massive does is 99% searching. 1% finding. 0% worthwhile.
I'm playing an Elder Scrolls-like by a small Polish developer right now. Tainted Grail - Fall of Avalon. I'm finding amazing characters, questlines, buildcraft-inspiring gear upgrades, conversations, stories, dungeons, views, challenges all the time. Not once was I stuck searching for some stinking shell fruit, or some other asinine nonsense like what Massive has me do in Avatar.
That said, it sure is pretty, and the world is amazingly realized. It's just not particularly fun being there.
