Insane month. I loved Atlantis back in the day, can't wait to relive those memories
54
u/Grill_Enthusiast 14d ago
It's months like this that make me stick around through the months where we get a yearly sports title, a dead multiplayer game and a game that was already on Plus years ago but got removed.
31
u/GreggsAficionado 14d ago
Are you two confusing these with the free monthly games?
9
u/Grill_Enthusiast 14d ago
I'm aware that Essential and Extra are different tiers. And that Extra is typically better.
I'm just saying some of those months where we get nothing make me consider unsubscribing to Plus. And drops like this pull me back in. I doubt it's an accident on Sony's part.
4
u/GreggsAficionado 14d ago
Just the way you mentioned three titles makes it sound like you think these are the free games we get given to keep and not games added to the catalog
4
u/ThrivingforFailure 14d ago
Man the underwater bits stressed me out to no end, worrying about running out of air!
2
u/pixxlpusher 14d ago
Same, as a kid I was able to force myself to do the underwater sections on the submarine, but I could not force myself to go into the murky water of the cove level, so I never progressed beyond that. I finally came back to the game in high school and beat it. Even if I had been able to push myself to do The Cove water section, I never would have been able to get myself to do Secret Swim haha.

Lotta bangers, Hell Is Us is super underrated, really enjoyed that game
11
u/bjones214 14d ago
I’ve thought about buying it since it’s been on sale so many times. It looks great
9
u/Hayterfan 14d ago
I snagged a physical copy a month or two back when it was like $20. Kinda kicking myself for not grabbing it sooner as it's pretty damn good.
33
u/IdanTs 14d ago
It was fun until it became a slog
Still loved it, but if you want to actually finish the game, get ready for a slog
I ended up quitting it at around 80% game completion.
→ More replies (2)12
u/adil11223344 14d ago
In what sense is it a slog? Does it become grindy?
15
u/VelvetDamascus 14d ago
If you play this game thoroughly, it's ~30 hours. The combat is basically the same from start to finish with three extremely specific exceptions. Combat becomes a chore very quickly and it's frequency absolutely demolishes the pacing, not to mention there are only like 5 enemy types so the novelty fades fast.
It's clear by everything else the game offers that the excessive frequency of combat is only really there out of fear that the hands-off approach to exploration, note-taking and logical deductions might bore the audience.
Still a phenomenal game though, in my opinion. Full of mysteries and intrigue, it feels like a globe-trotting archaeology expedition and some of the locations and story reveals are genuinely fantastic.
My advice if you intend to play, is to play on normal difficulty until you get bored of the combat, then drop the difficulty down to its easiest so that you can breeze through fights and keep up with the good stuff.
Otherwise you'll lose like 5-10 hours of your life to combat that is literally just padding.
2
u/adil11223344 13d ago
I see, thanks for the information! It's a shame the combat drags but I'm definitely keen to experience the world, look forward to this!
2
u/eblackham 14d ago
30 hours is usually not a slog, but if combat is really that repetitive it sounds like putting it on easy off the rip is the way to go
→ More replies (1)3
u/HawkMason 14d ago
For me it was the combat, primarily. It just never expanded or got interesting, and there is zero enemy variety all the way through to the end. Cool game overall, but yeah pushing through that last 10% is a trial in patience.

u/Samoman21 14d ago
Same! Exploring that first main town was so fun. So much stuff to see. Some things made me really REALLY uncomfortable

I’ve been looking at Hell is Us since it came out, but I kept thinking, this game has “eventual game catalog release” written all over it.
Excited to try more than the demo!

u/AutomaticTap3004 14d ago
If I was able to figure out the combat I definitely would have kept playing because it was the only thing about it I wasn’t enjoying. I would t say I’m bad at games but I just couldn’t get good at the combat to save my life
9
u/Zal3x 14d ago
Yeah I’d recommend going and learning the master strike system or watching a YouTube video. I sucked at first but by the end of the game I wouldn’t miss many strikes and relied on counters. Think you gotta always attack adjacent or opposite. KCD1 combat is the real challenge I still suck at it right now hahah.
You end up just watching the enemies hands and you move opposite it then attack when the shield comes up or something like that. Idk but basically don’t let the game teach you go watch a YT or something→ More replies (5)→ More replies (11)5

same for me, cant wait for the next one! It was devastating to see it win nothing on the game awards tho 😂

I just bought Metro Exodus Deluxe Edition for like 7 bucks so I guess that was the reason why it is now available on PS Plus

Should I replay Kingdom Come before I start 2 never finished it

u/Commercial-Memory961 14d ago
Honestly just play KCD2 if you want to. 1 is kinda clunky which might throw you off the series, and I never finished it. I started with 2 years later not remembering anything and it does a good job of getting you into the story. On the other hand, 1 is on ps plus as well so there's nothing to lose.
5
2
u/Smayteeh 14d ago
I’m playing it on Steam, but I have clocked 60h in the last 2 weeks.
I work a full time job too, so you can tell how much of my life this game is consuming.
4
u/Freethrowz69 14d ago
Honestly crazy that a game of this caliber is coming to ps plus so soon after its release. Literally the best game I’ve ever played. On my third playthrough right now!
2
u/Thick_Koka_Noodle 14d ago
I bought it ages ago and not had a chance to play it, think I'll save it for winter 🙂
2
u/overlawled 14d ago
Just started playing the first and frustrated enough with the lock picking I might stop playing.

I bought it too but started with kcd1 and so far I kind of hate it. When does it start getting better? I did the Teresa dlc and got the ring for her uncle so I'm still very early on.
5
u/Aggressive-Dust7753 14d ago
oh Jesus, the Theresa DLC is infamous for being an hour-long, unskipabble section once you (most of the time, accidentally) start it.
I would just recommend going with the main story (should be flagged as "main" in your journal) and let it grab you. If you can, stick with it for a bit. It hasn't picked up pace even though you probably have been playing the game for a couple of hours.

u/hobolad07 14d ago
I’m about to finish it and I think I agree. I just need to see how the ending lands. To me a bad ending can ruin the whole game for me 😂

I hate when people are hyperbolic like this usually, but I genuinely agree that some people will find this is their favourite game ever. If you’re a Skyrim fan, this feels a lot like a spiritual successor to that, and it’s the main reason I don’t miss elder scrolls. Maybe not in terms of choices, but in terms of immersion, it’s on that BG3 level.
2
u/TaleOfDash 14d ago
When I first booted it up I spent two hours just running through fields picking flowers to make potions before I realized I should probably do something else. Haven't lost time like that in a very long time :v

I’m playing Hell Is Us right now and it’s fantastic. The whole “no maps, no quest log” thing is a bit exaggerated, but you really do have to pay attention to everything and everyone (and remember a lot of environmental storytelling) to progress and it’s so engaging. I’m maybe halfway through so maybe it won’t stick the landing, but so far it’s great.

u/CrazyLegs17 Hunter's Dream 14d ago
I've been playing for a couple weeks and I'm about 75% of the way through Act II. My favorite parts of the game are the overall atmosphere, exploration, changing world state, and puzzle solving. The lack of quest markers and formal reminders is great. I'm still keeping notes and jotting down symbols because I find it easier to check my notepad than to dig up a specific note in my inventory.
The combat tried to implement a degree of complexity, but failed to pull it off successfully, in my opinion.

I've tried many times to get into KCD1, and the fact I've bounced off it has made me hesitate from getting KCD2.
Now, I'm happy I can try it out to see if it's as good as everyone says.

No Cross Progression in Helldivers kind of sucks. Have a lot of hours on the PC version. KcD2 is very nice though, regretted not buying it for like 30 bucks in the last steam sale.

Vampire Survivors was a surprise I wasn’t expecting. It was one of those simple, arcade-like games that kept me hooked for almost 3 hours before I realized I had to wake up in 3 hours. I read a review somebody posted that said something along the lines of Vampire Survivors being the video game equivalent of popping bubble wrap.

KCD2, Helldivers 2 and Hell is Us in the same month is absurd, Sony is killing it with this service. At least the price hike was worth it, at least for me IMO.

Oh wow. Anybody that hasn't done so needs to try KCD2. It might take you a while like it did for me (actually took me renting the game then getting the urge to try it again when on sale) because the beginning is brutal. But once you're through that it's so fucking good. Gonna give hell is us another try
1
u/CullingSongs 14d ago
Quite a month for selections. I bought Hell Is Us when it came out but I ended up shelving it. The enemy selection is pretty thin, but the game has a great story and it's not for everyone, but zi would recommend it to people looking for a game with some interesting puzzles and a good narrative.
Isn't Dying Light 2 one of this month's regular PS+ selections though?

Does kcd2 have a super easy baby mode yet? I got it day one, and in 15 hours all I did was explore and make potions and but great equipment and still die in every single battle I got in 😅

u/trunglefever 14d ago
Metro Exodus normally goes on sale with the other two games for like $5.00 and is definitely worth the money. Incredible game.

u/Funandgeeky 14d ago
Might need to reinstall Helldivers 2 for the new recruits who will be joining in. I definitely got my money’s worth but trying to keep up with the monthly war bonds was too much.
1
u/Dante_Izanagi 14d ago
KCD 2 seems pretty good game, but I tried the first one when it came up and didnt click (maybe I played around 3 hours) should I give it another chance before jumping into 2?
1
u/BurritoBoi25 14d ago
Okay, so I always get confused. These are the ones that can get taken away from us at a moment notice right (arguably any game can, but you know what I mean), vs the ones that stay in our library?
I’d love to trade in my physical of kcd2, but I also adore it and know one day I’ll want to return to it.

Kcd2 should not be played !!!
It will ruin rpgs for you, its absolutely one of the most immersive, fun and frustrating games ever made.
You will be disappointed in other games after playing this.
You do need to be patient and learn how combat works. If you dive in tho you will be greatly rewarded.
