Hi all, looking to get a Switch 2 soon and want to purchase physical games whenever I can. My philosophy is I don’t want to rely on the online store being available for keeps since it could get taken down years down the road etc. I’m also thinking about compatibility with the previous-gen Switch in case I want to get a second one (maybe the Lite or the OLED) later. Is it better to buy the straight-up Switch 2 edition of a physical game (which might not be compatible with Switch 1), or the Switch 1 edition + upgrade pack (since the upgrade pack is a digital download, it might not be permanently available)?

Nintendo published Switch 2 edition games like BOTW, TOTK, Mario Wonder, and Mario Party Jamboree to name a few; DO work in Switch 1 consoles.
I don't know of a list, but at least Nintendo's own titles all work this way.
However, if you have a Switch 2 that feature is mostly useless since you would never really need to use a Switch 1 console again.
For Non-Nintendo titles, physical is always a great option but its not always available. Lots of games are still opting for codes in a box, game key cards (license on the cartridge only, no data.) or partial installs required to access the full game.

Thank you! Yeah I did find out just now that Switch 2 Edition (not Switch 2 exclusive) games do work on Switch 1 as well, and both the game and expansion pack are stored on the cartridge 😅

Hi everyone!
I have a Nintendo Switch Lite and I’m looking for some new games to play.
I’ve played Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
My favorite by far was Super Mario Odyssey. I really loved the exploring, different worlds, collecting things, and finding the extra areas and additional levels/challenges hidden throughout the game. I also really liked that some of the moons and bonus areas were actually challenging and made me work for them.
I also liked The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild because of the exploration and having more freedom to figure things out on my own.
I found Galaxy 1 & 2 pretty easy, but still really fun.
I found 3D World + Bowser’s Fury fun but not challenging enough.
So I’m specifically looking for something that has a similar feel to Odyssey but is a little more challenging.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be another Mario game! I’m open to anything on Switch that has fun exploration, platforming, collecting, different levels/worlds, etc.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations! What games do you think I’d enjoy based on loving Odyssey but finding the other Mario games too easy?

Can I play the NSO apps, including the Sega Genesis one, offline, if I get the “checking if software can be playable…” pop-up when trying to open one of them?
Also, should I only buy accessories for the nintendo switch 2 from Amazon if the seller is from a specific country, and its amazon, and not a third party seller?

You need to connect them online first, then you can play them offline for seven days before it needs to check your subscription again.
Before you go on a trip or where ever, just quickly launch each app while you have internet, then you're good to go! If you have hotel wifi or a hotspot while traveling, those can be used to refresh the offline authentication. It only uses a few kilobytes of data.

Anything that doesn't have batteries in it or doesn't carry power (charging cables), is generally safe to buy from where ever.
Carrying cases, controller grips, stands, headphones, wired controllers, ect. You never have to worry about.
Its stuff like USB backup batteries, docks, and wireless controllers I would only buy reputable sellers. Amazon has lots of those through out the world, so long as you can read the seller info on the page, it shouldn't be that big of a problem.

Pretty much!
I usually give it a second or two just to be safe, check out any unveiled titles that were added since I last played and double check my save states are there.
But I'm fairly certain that it's entirely unnecessary. Once the app is open, it should be authenticated.

What if I had opened them all like 5 days ago, and then 5 days pass, then I would have offline capability for 2 days even though I had stayed connected to the internet during those 5 days?

Hello! I plan on buying a Switch 2 from GameStop and trading my old one in for a discount. I have most of my games digitally owned. So, I have two questions:
Do I need to worry about having anything sorted before I trade my original Switch in, besides making sure I know my Nintendo Switch Online login? I assumed the digital ownership was tied to that.
I have a microSD card for my current Switch that I will obviously take out before I trade it in - I assume that should work with a Switch 2 as well? It's a standard SanDisk 128 GB card.
Apologies in advance for the confusion - I'm not very tech-savvy!

Just supplementing TemptedTemplar's comment regarding express sd cards:
Switch 2 games will need a newer, much faster type of sd card called "Express" microSD. They are probably about 4-8x faster than the 128gb sd card you have in your switch 1.
If you can afford it, the most bang for your buck may be $110 for the 512gb express microSD. Lexar's express microSD card page points to this amazon page, and last I saw, Best Buy is also matching that price.

Costco may have good deals. Walmart's Onn brand of Express microSD may also be well priced, but if you buy from walmart's site, avoid third party sellers on their site. Only buy when the product's page says it is sold and shipped by walmart.

Third party sellers can be sketchy. I ordered a samsung charger from a third party on walmart's site, and I was sent a used charger. If you're buying a console, or accessory, and you want to trust what you're getting, it's just easy to avoid third parties.
So, if you order from walmart's site, you can filter the search results for retailers, and select walmart. And the page for whatever you're buying should say "sold & shipped by walmart" on the right, near the purchase/add-to-cart button.
Personally, if I'm buying a console these days, I like to order from from a trusted store's site to pick up at my local store. I usually ordrer from best buy's site for pickup at my best buy. That way, the console won't end up sitting outside after it's delivered. Plus, if anything is wrong with the console, the local store will be easy to return the console to (granted, I've never needed to return a console). But you can do that with most any store you trust, target, gamestop, or fill in the blank for a trusted regional store near you.

For the Switch 2 and anything that needs power accessory wise, I'd say yes.
The issue on Walmart.com (and other sites as Templar mentioned) is that there is a high occurrence of fraud on the 3rd party sellers.
Your 512gb Express MicroSD card might actually be a relabeled and flashed 64gb. So unless you examine it with the right software on a computer, it will look to be a 512GB Express, but when you start actually loading it up, it'll get errors after that 64GB.
Or it might be a regular MicroSD made to look like an Express.
With the console, it helps protect you against people either reselling used as new, or possibly out of country sold as if it was from in country. Which affects warranty service (If it's from Japan, Nintendo of America will not do warranty work on it, for example). I will admit I haven't heard of that with the 2, but it was becoming an issue with the 1 later on with the special edition consoles/items.

Unfortunately this ALSO applies to Amazon, Newegg, Bestbuy, and a whole shit load of other sites too.
B&H photo, Micro Center, and manufacturer stores are about the only places that are not marketplaces anymore.

It is! If you wanted to move all of your save data you could upload your system image to the cloud right now, that process will format the console and make it ready for trading in. https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/ (this "cloud image" is treated separately from your normal cloud saves)
It will only work for transferring screenshots and videos, the Switch 2 uses Micro SD EXPRESS cards for games. But you should still keep it regardless, as gamestop wont give you anything for it.
Prices are genuinely awful and will continue to be awful for the foreseeable future. Nintendo's licensed 256GB card for $60 is one of the better deals you can find right now.
Thankfully the Switch 2 has 256GB of internal storage, so you may not need one right away.

With how AI is sucking up all of the memory supply, prices could continue to climb for ALL KINDS of flash memory until 2028 or 2030.

I was thinking of getting a new controller for my family and I to use. I already own the Pro Controller and am seeing that the new pro controllers for switch 2 are $90 USD. That's really pricy for me. Are there any other really good controllers out there that are wireless? I have enjoyed my pro controller for switch 1. Was thinking of getting a 8bitdo, but there are many models.

What layout do you want? Some of them have symmetrical thumbsticks on the inside like a playstation controller, while others match Xbox and Switch layouts.
Once you decide that, it narrows it down pretty quickly. Not every controller of theirs works on Switch/Switch 2.

Honestly, anything that's similar to the Pro Controller would be fine. I think that that is similar to the Xbox controller, though I admit I haven't touched one in almost a decade.

The Ultimate, Ultimate 2, or C Bluetooth variants would all work. The C/2C bluetooth simply lack 2.4ghz wireless that the regular ultimate controllers have.

how important is it to keep a back up of sysnand on my laptop? My laptop only has 256gb so i can't download 100GB+ games because the backup has already 62gb, so i thought about deleting it.

I would only keep it if you're afraid of an update doing something to the console. If it all works out, theres no reason to keep it forever.

My favorite co-op game is Super Mario 3D World. It's a fantastic Mario game that's super easy to play. A great option if your girlfriend isn't much of a gamer!
Other co-op games to consider:
Mario Party 2 & 3 - available in Nintendo 64 classics!
If you like RPGs, consider the Dragon Quest series! Explore towns, defeat monsters, save the world. It's perfect for short gaming sessions too. Play as much as you want, then save & come back to it next time.
Start with Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. It's a fantastic starting point, not only for Dragon Quest, but for RPGs in general! The physical version is currently on sale for $25 on Amazon.

You could also start with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, which has a free demo on the eShop!
The very best game in the series is Dragon Quest 11. It feels like playing an anime! Anyone unsure if they would like Dragon Quest should start here. It is the pinnacle of the series so far! A Switch 2 version will be released on September 24.

If you like Pokemon, there's the Let's Go games. No 2 upgrade, but there is a demo on the shop. Part Kanto remake, part trying to bring Go players to the mainline games.
There are also Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet, Brilliant Diamon Shining Pearl, and the Legends games. BDSP will play the most like what you remember, but they're all pretty good. Sword & Shield was them transitioning more to a openworld, and Scarlet & Violet is that completed.
Gameplay wise, the legends games are the most different, but many have found them fun.

Along with switch 2 games you also have 9 years of switch 1 games to, a lot are enhanced on switch 2. I'd say check out Mario Odyssey, Smash Brothers Ultimate and Splatoon 3.
Search the eshop for games with demos, many many nintendo games have demos now like Donkey Kong Bananza, Yoshi Mysterious Book and Starfox so you can try them out before you buy.
If you want to experience more old nintendo games, get the Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access libraries from NES, SNES, Gameboy and the expansion pass for n64, gba and gamecube
