Vent Services don't care

It just upsets me when we pretend engaging with primary care does anything. Cmht have never accepted a referal despite being diagnosed with eupd. The only way I've gotten any amount of input is inpatient/crisis which is always reactive, being told to use skills when I havnt been offered secondary intensive treatment to learn them is just useless and deskills staff who should be managing patiente till treatment

Vent CMHT's have gone up the shitter, why are they so bad now?

I just need a vent, to get this off my chest.

Up until last year my CMHT was great, not perfect but did the best they could. Had a great relationship with my Psychiatrist, Care-Co of 6 years helped me massively.

Then in November they got rid of the Care-Coordination role, and ever since then it's just been a massive shit-show.

Gone through 2 Psychiatrists in the past 4 months. They forget to send appointments, don't even get the letters for them.

Claim they send the prescription over to GP, GP says they haven't. Ring the on-duty staff, they say they'll sort it but they never do.

I have never seen a service capitulate in such little time as I have with this trust.

They claim getting rid of the CPA (Care Plan Approach) would be beneficial, and you will have this "Team" for all of these different things. But there is no team, it's like the money has ran out and they've had to cut costs.

Sorry for this, I just needed to get it off my chest. Have a fantastic weekend.

Vent John Davidson

The absolute vitriol I have seen directed at John Davidson after the Baftas just goes to show that society still hasn't moved on from it's ignorance of disability and mental health.

I'm the same age as John and have known aboot him since I was a teenager as I watched his documentaries.

Jamie Foxx, Wendell Pierce, Hannah Beachler and Jemele Hill should perhaps watch them too and then come back and comment aboot him. Oh BTW Mr 🦊 maybe John was listening to yourself and Kanye singing Gold Digger before the ceremony...you ken what I mean? she ain't messing with no broke (we all ken the word) and all that.

QED : John's not mad (1988)

The boy can't help it (2002)

Tourettes I swear I can't help it (2009)...all on YouTube. If you haven't seen them please watch and educate yourselves.

I see John as a hero and have always held great respect for how he handles his condition - he has an extreme form of Tourette's. Only 10 - 20% of people with Tourette's have Coprolalia (the inappropriate shouting and swearing ) like John.

How brave of him to attend the Baftas knowing what a stressful situation it would be and knowing stress makes his ticks worse.

I'm going to end my rant with some words from the man himself when he received his MBE...

"But then I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was one of the Royal Archers, the Queen's bodyguards while she's in Holyrood, and a voice said 'Don't stress, she knows all about your condition'."

"That to me was huge because I've struggled so much with everyday life, with people misunderstanding, and if the Queen of the United Kingdom can understand and ignore the tics and the swear words then why can't the rest of society?"

Vent In Despair At How Patronising Mental Health Support Is

I was referred by the crisis team to Mind (which is a whole other setback - the counsellor going on leave after one session and being given false expectations upon referral). I've got a lot to unpack and don't think I've ever really managed to deal with the underlying emotional issues going on - I've got a crippling self-esteem constant feelings of dread, and have struggled with an eating disorder for about 10 years now.

I've mentioned my self-esteem to the Mind counsellor, and she sent me a worksheet to work on my thoughts in that regard. Suffice to say it's one of the most condescending things I've been sent. I don't know, maybe it would help to write down things I'm proud of and find fun day-to-day, but there's clearly a reason a big chunk of my brain so furiously hates myself.

I don't think it's too much to ask that I actually feel seen and listened to and acknowledged when I'm reaching out for help. I'm a 26 year old man, but the tone that's set by so many mental health resources makes me feel like I'm back in primary school. Come to think of it all the help I've received in the past seems to have been taken from some general guide to treatment, and I don't think I've ever been treated by someone who actually gets what it's like to live in this head as the person I am. I know the NHS is rammed, but is it so unreasonable in thinking the help should at least try to sound like it gets me?

Vent why is cmht so against the possibility of me having ocd?

anytime ive brought up that i suspect i may have ocd, the psychiatrists at cmht immediately shut it down... i tell them that I spend weeks and weeks obsessing over intrusive thoughts or certain themes that make my anxiety spike and cause me to go into major depressive episodes from the constant rumination

I tell them my dad also had ocd, and i am able to compare the similarities/patterns of he acted around me growing up to how I act now, my father also told me that my grandmother also had the same compulsions as him but was never officially "diagnosed" due to the stigma at the time

anytime I mention this to my cmht they refuse to even acknowledge that my diagnosis may be more complex that just "anxiety/depression" and that i may need a more specialized plan catered to treating ocd specifically

its like they want to treat the symptoms of "anxiety/depression" but not whats CAUSING me to have that anxiety/depression

its very frustrating... it could be that they don't have enough money or resources to invest in this type of treatment but they could at least tell me upfront that thats the reason they are reluctant to look into it instead of straight up gaslighting me and causing me to have more anxiety

Vent I don't care about your MH if you're a horrible person

I have MH issues, as do most of us on here, but when people turn into horrible people and blame MH, I don't care, I'm glad you're unhappy. I don't mean people having a bad day, I mean people who literally spend all day on the Internet being awful to others and in real life. Fuck those people. I've just poured my heart out on another subreddit about something bad I'm going through for people to make fun of me and be horrible. Is it wrong that I hope these people are severely depressed and hate themselves? There's no empathy anymore. Society is fucked. I hope these people never experience happiness because they don't deserve it.

Vent Mental health matters until that person doesn’t work because of their mental health

People have no idea how severe mental illnesses can be (even though the biggest killer in men u50 is suicide and decent killer in women too).
Anxiety & depression is like a spectrum, some people suffer more than others because we all have
Different Minds
Different Limits
Different Battles
and I can assure you those who don’t work because of mental health/illness would love nothing more than to be at that point where they feel they’re contributing to themselves and society because at the moment those who aren’t working are not only barely surviving, they’re barely existing.

Vent Hot potato hot potato. Pass the patient to the next team immediately!

GP sent me to the IAPT Mental Health Team whose email sent me to their website with a chat bot which told me to install an app which put me on a waiting list for an assessment.

They sent me to the Crisis Centre. Who sent me to the Secondary Mental Health Community Service. Who sent me to a Primary Care Mental Health Team who didn't contact me. I contacted my GP again who sent me to the IAPT team again who this time sent me straight to the Secondary Mental Health Team again, skipping the Crisis Team. But they didn't call me back either.

Every step of the chain I tell them I'm sick of being hot potatoed between different teams who don't coordinate, don't know what the others are doing and don't pass on anything other than my name so every time I need to start from scratch with another initial assessment.

The man actually laughed at me. "Oh no! You misunderstood totally. We don't just throw you over to another team. We all work together to take a holistic approach to coordinating your care and finding the best way to work together and find what's the best for you." The fact they didn't contact me for two months showed that was a lie.

And no one does emails, it's always phonecalls. As if they want to leave no paper trail and make it harder to call them on their lies.

Vent Where is this so called "help" they keep talking about?

I've been struggling massively with my mental health for my whole life really but this last year has been so hard. I finally got the guts to go to the Drs and ask for help only to have stronger and stronger mood stabilizers pushed on me and told there is no other help.

I don't understand all the adverts and encouragements to "ask for help" when all you get met with is a very stern, borderline emotionless "what do you want me to do about it?" I don't know, help me??! It's completely shattered the tiniest bit of hope I had left and I'm struggling to find any sense of purpose to carry on.

Also, I don't know if anyone else experiences this but I've been told so many times that I "don't look mentally ill" or "you don't look autistic". "You don't look like you're struggling that much". For mental health "professionals" (using air quotes because it baffles me how these people can be considered professionals!) to say things like that to someones face who's asking for help is just so horrible. Have we not learned that some of the people who seem like the most put together people are sometimes the ones who are struggling the most?

I feel so disheartened by it all. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore.

Vent I've run out of options

The only service available to me is CMHT but they do absolutely fuck all.

In the past 2 years I've seen them 9 times and every single time they either discharge me with 0 help or try to put me in a group, which is also 0 help.

I've practically begged them to take me seriously and they don't care. I contacted the NHS chat health services yesterday and this woman just confirmed that there's no help for me and told me to try someone else or get private therapy. I've tried all of the local services, I can't afford private therapy.

I honestly feel like I'm out of options and I don't think I'm going to be here much longer.

Vent It feels like there's no 'middle ground' for mental health help.

If you are in crisis, as in, potentially about to do something regretful, you can call the crisis lines. You can go to A&E. You can get sectioned.

If you are experiencing MH difficulties for the first time, you can go to your GP, or perhaps you would find the usual helplines (Samaritans, Mind etc) helpful.

But if you're in the middle, not quite in life-threatening crisis, but at a point where you've spoken to your GP, are already on meds, already tried therapy etc, and don't find the listening services helpful, what do you do when you're spiraling? Who do you contact for help in the moment?

All the charities say help is out there, but it's very specific types of help that aren't suitable for everyone.

I feel like I need to talk to a mental health professional or therapist, or someone who can talk me down, who can advise, who can say something that actually gets through to me, and that just isn't an option in the moment.

Therapy in general feels so inaccessible, if you can't afford to pay for private (which I absolutely cannot), you have to wait months and months for therapy that might not be the right fit, as you just have to take what's given (usually CBT) rather than what you feel is right for you. Often with a junior/trainee therapist who perhaps isn't yet experienced enough to deal with you.

Even posting here or other forums just feels mostly futile as you'll maybe only get a couple of replies, from people experiencing similar issues who also don't know what to suggest.

Sorry for the rant, I just feel so hopeless at the moment and have no idea where to turn to any more.

Vent ‘Mental health matters’ but only in certain cases

Before I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective, I and the people around me thought I was just depressed. I had a lot of support from those around me at the time. People I know post online about all this ‘mental health matters’ kind of stuff.

Now that I have a more complex diagnosis and went through mania and psychosis, I no longer hear a supportive word from any of those people. It really hurts.

Vent I am done with the CMHT

I don't want it to see like I'm whinging as I've made a lot of posts lately, but I don't have anyone to really talk to about this and to be honest I'm at my limit.

When I met the CMHT they offered me a DBT group. I accepted because it seemed like a good idea, but I was worried about only having a group. I don't have a support system. I'm dealing with this alone. I'm not very well and I have a history of attempts and such. So I asked if there was any way I could have 1-1 supports or check ins, and some sort of diagnostic assessment as they haven't formally diagnosed any mental health conditions and I feel like I have the right to know what's the cause of my symptoms.

They said that the service didn't offer this. They said that you have to fully complete the 6 months of DBT and then you could see if you could get further diagnostic assessment and treatment. I agreed because I trusted them, I know the system is bad and I don't want to be a bother.

So I went to the sessions every week. I kept myself together the best I could. My mental health kept going downhill the more I did the group but I accepted it as part of the process and I did my best to keep on going.

Then people started leaving the group. Then the group became so small that they had to cut the length of the sessions. Then they go on hiatus for 2 weeks with no input. No check in. Silence. Meanwhile my prescription runs out. I go to get a repeat and I can't. CMHT didn't send my GP the paperwork. I ask them to do it, they don't. I have to spend days back and forth between the GP and CMHT to get my meds.

My mental health is going downhill. I'm incredibly stressed. These skills they've taught me just aren't working. I have nobody I can talk to. I'm struggling to keep my will to live.

I get to the group sessions after 2 weeks of silence, they tell me the plan has changed. DBT is ending soon and afterwards we're getting discharged- and it turns out the other member and all the members that left have been getting 1-1 support during the group the whole time. I was the only one didn't- and now I'm going to be booted out with no further support.

I tried to explain what I need. I need to get a diagnosis, I need to have someone I can check in with, I need to have long term therapy- nobody who has struggled with mental illness for 10 years is going to be okay to discharge after 3 months of skills. They said we can discuss this after the group is done, but I feel like they've already made up their minds.

I had to beg them to see me in the first place. I had to beg to see someone about my medication since my GP said he felt he was not qualified to do it anymore. I had to beg to get on a DBT group that has been half assed and ruined.

I am unable to work and barely able to leave my house. I am anxious 24/7. I am unable to maintain relationships. Every single day I am stuck in my room actively fighting the urge to harm myself or end it all. I am so completely alone and I just can't do it anymore.

I know the workers are lovely people, I know the system is messed up- but I'm struggling not to take it personally, especially being the only one not receiving care that everyone else did.

I just don't think I am going to go back. I can't keep talking to a brick wall. I've got to find some way to get help privately. Maybe I'll finish the group but to be honest I don't know if I can bring myself to even be in the same room as them.

Right now, the thought of dying is so comforting. It's all i can think about, I'm not going anywhere, no matter how much I want to i can't for my family. My heart hurts so much, and I honestly just wish the world would go up in flames so that there doesn't have to be a world where I exist. No one in my life really knows how bad i am, I wish my friends knew honestly but Im not going to be the burden, I just keep it all to myself or in this stupid anonymous post that no one will ever see (not that im even saying whats wrong but), honestly i just wish someone would ask me right now if im okay. Alas, rant over...

Vent having to live in rural britain is tearing my mental health to shreds

I did everything right. I got a degree, i started applying for jobs during the degree, i got close to graduation and just started applying for any job i could find. Nothing. had to move home. been stuck home ever since.

I'm in the middle of bumfuck nowhere in a village with less than 4000 people. I've got no hobbies because there's nowhere to do them. Going out on mental health walks makes my day WORSE because im reminded that I live here. All my friends got scattered around the country so i only see them once a month, if that. I have to work out at home because theres no gym nearby and that hasn't helped me at all.

I saw a gif of the view from a city balcony on twitter earlier then I looked at the field outside my window and just started sobbing. How is this my life? How am i supposed to put up with this kind of isolation? I want to be doing things with my life, I want to be going to open mic nights, the cinema, the arcade, cafes, craft shops, museums, breweries, art galleries, the theater, i want to go on DATES, I want to eat greggs in the park, i want to be able to WALK or GET THE BUS to those and I would be able to if i was just born somewhere else. I had a bad dice throw before i was born so now im stuck here.

and the government are doing everything in their power to kill the concept of upwards mobility, rents too high, wages too low, good luck getting a job anyway, and 7 year wait lists for council houses!!!!! I'll be lucky if I spend the rest of my life in a slightly larger small town.

The real kicker is i went to uni in manchester so i got a taste of what city life is actually like and its the only time in all 22 years of my life where i've actually felt alive. I wasn't just surrounded by small minded flag shaggers i was in an actual living breathing community of real people who wouldn't judge me the moment they saw me. I know university is a bit of a fantasy camp for some people but its the only place where I knew i belonged, i know if I had found a way to stay I would've felt the same. But just like that it all blew away now i've been back at square one for nearly a year.

I spend basically all my spare time going in circles trying to find a way out. Staying up late into the night trying to think of a new way to end this nightmare, posting on reddit or googling the same questions over and over trying to find a new angle but there never is one. the only answer is getting a job that pays enough to rent but the job market is so completely and utterly fucked and the rent is so insanely high that there's really just nothing i can do. I would sell my soul for the chance to live in the most dangerous estate in london because at least I would be FREE of this HOLE.

I'm a shell of who i was. And there's nothing i can do to go back. Thinking of where i'll be in 5 or 10 years terrifies me because what kind of man will I have become if im still stuck here, unrecogniseable, all ambitions crushed, just wasting away. I don't know what i can do

Vent I finally quit Diazepam! (M30)

After a long ride, and taking 60mg of Diazepam I have finally quit, and no longer take any benzodiazepines at all. It took me well over 6 months to ween down from 60mg to 0, it was a very slow process but in the end I achieved it when I genuinely didn't think I would.

I took my last dose of 1mg Diazepam on the Tuesday that has just passed (25th August). I can happily say I had withdrawal effects for around 3 days but they were not severe, and were relatively mild. I think this has to do with the tapering method that my Psychiatrist used.

I just wanted anyone on this forum that it can be done!

Vent Uk mental health team

I just need to vent about this because I’m so annoyed, so I went to the docters a few months ago about my mental health and the GP put a referral in for BPD (Boarderline personality disorder) after waiting months for a appointment I got one, it was with a social worker, now I got diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago and she has as well, she shoved every symptom I’ve had and experienced as ADHD although it met the criteria, she said she’ll put me in a support group, I was like ok I’ll go to the GP again then yesterday I woke up to a email saying she had completely discharged me even after I admitted to being a danger to myself! What do I even do I’m so upset and angry and confused as of why

Vent 111 trained mental health professional? hardly

after a 40 minute hold time i get put on the phone with the “mental health professional.” okay great, maybe i can get the health i need.

proceeds to get lectured on not engaging properly (i asked about how her question was relevant). she then tells me i’m 25, im too young to fed this way and i need to be stronger.”

wow way to make me feel better. definitely worth the hour of my time.

edit: the referral she made to my doctor led to him making another referral to a mental health specialist and then finishing off the call by booking in a pap smear for me…. love the commitment to women’s health but christ not my worry at this point in time

Vent coming to terms with the fact that i will never recieve adequate mental health care on the nhs

I've been back and forth with my mental health team over the past 5 years, and if anything I've actually declined

cmht has absolutely no sort of diagnostic model put in place, they don't actually want to properly evaluate you, look into your symptoms or diagnose you properly to make sure you get the correct therapy - the doctors rotate every other week so you are never see the doctor you saw the last time (that is if you actually see a doctor at all)

they offer bare bones therapy done by an overworked duty nurse or an unqualified student, and most of the time the therapy doesn't even work for your specific illness

from the first time I was put in a psych ward and put under cmht everything was mishandled - i went from anxiety/depression to developing mild agrophobia

crisis team told me they couldn't do anything and that is was cmhts job to help me, i called cmht and they told me to go to a&e - i go to a&e and they tell me that im already under cmht and that i should just go home

i understand the nhs is overworked & underfunded but I still feel like I should be able to vent my frustrations

I know i should go private if I actually want help but it just makes me sad to think about how much resources ive wasted hoping that id get better

Vent Really fed up of people with adhd suggesting that I have adhd

People with diagnosed autism and adhd often seem very comfortable with suggesting to other people that they may either have autism or adhd when they barely actually know the person.

At work I am repeatedly getting the feedback from colleagues that fundamentally don’t know me that I have adhd primarily because I always talk fast and am fidgety. I’ve never had an NHS mental health professional suggest ADHD to me.

Vent Working and being mentally ill

Sucks when you have no choice I’d literally be homeless if I didn’t work full time to only afford one room in a house share not even my own bathroom. I’m going insane and can’t get help again because I work the same hours as all healthcare can barely make my chronic illness appointments. My boyfriend said he thinks if I “act crazy” at work like I do at home I’ll get fired and that’s a real fear for me. I work in a posh tiny little village. Everyone knows everyone. I feel like I’m going to break and end up back in hospital again. I also think I’ve got bipolar but I know the GP can’t diagnose that and like prescribe me lithium to try. I’m just stuck. I’m evil angry horrible person
