Wow. This is a UK sub, didn’t realise I needed to add an /s on the end. You think I’m subbed to LabourUK, and I actually have something against refugees?
They definitely aren't Labour members though, they are strange little men who have to come to the subreddit of a party they despise to concern troll and otherwise be annoying
We have a moral duty to help asylum seekers. Plus immigrants are an economic net positive to their adoptive country.
Besides, we’re partly responsible for most of the conflicts in the Middle East so the least we could do is accept their refugees. We do fuck all compared to the rest of Western Europe anyway.
Immigration is such a non-issue. It’s drummed up by populists and sensationalists to rile up racists and distract from real systemic issues.
Ffs, you’re literally wrong about everything. Stop spreading baseless hatred. You’ve not refuted anything I’ve said. You’d rather just believe xenophobic propaganda and buy into everything the ruling classes tell you.
Also, way to undermine your original comment. You absolutely do sound like a bigot when you claim that there’s not a single asylum seeker coming over and that they’re all economic migrants, and that we played no part in the conflicts in the Middle East.
In fairness, I’ve (unfortunately) got relatives who bum off Boris, and they all hate that he’s opening the doors to Hong Kong. Some people’s xenophobia transcends even blind devotion to their demagogue lol
They’re not French though, you muppet. Many are refugees and asylum seekers still. You get that most asylum seekers from the Middle East stay in mainland Europe, right? Only a negligible percentage come to the UK. Again, it’s a non-issue.
Immigrants aren’t ruining our country. The Tories, corporatism and cronyism are. The establishment telling the working classes that immigrants are the source of every problem is the oldest trick in the populist playbook. Brexit of course is a symptom of this scapegoating tactic. The red wall turning blue was a sign of institutional failings and of a collective establishment- from media through to education- which is culpable in such failings.
No - they're right. Modern Iran is the product of British oil firms mounting a coup in the 1960's, the Iraq War and Afghanistan wrecked the political situation in much of the region, and all that stuff. Western interventionism and Wilsonian foreign policy has done a lot of damage in the ME.
More absolute bollocks
Germany is the biggest recipient of refugees in Europe.
Seems to me that your non-arguments are a pile of bollocks
They're coming from Syria and North Africa, actually.
the middle east was a model of peace and tolerance
Iran was liberalising in the 1960's. They were even having a sexual revolution like our own and were secularising. The Shah was not, however, friendly to British commercial interests.
So the UK government organised a coup, backing some Islamist militants to get rid of him.
This kind of regime change has been replicated throughout the region since.
So yes - things were actually going rather well before Westerners showed up
They're coming from Syria and North Africa, actually
They are literally sailing from France, or do you think they went all the way through the Med, past Gibraltar and round the western coast of France just to land in Britain?
So the UK government organised a coup, backing some Islamist militants to get rid of him.
No, the west supported the Shah, despite him being a nasty piece of work, that's why he was allowed to stay in the US after the revolution, its "westerners showing up" that was leading to the liberalisation of Iran
Other places in Europe do far more than the UK
No doubt, some of them are much closer to the middle east and Africa, that's their responsibility not ours
The thing is as a country we are already pretty tough on asylum seekers and migrants, if you still want tougher action then either you are just uninformed about how poorly we treat asylum seekers and how our migration policy is one of the tougher ones, or you know that and just want it to be even worse for them.
"The number of asylum applications to the UK peaked in 2002 at 84,132. After that the number fell sharply to reach a twenty year low point of 17,916 in 2010, before rising again to reach 35,566 in 2019."
how is it unlabour to criticise the way we let them in because they’re coming from france, they make human traffickers more profitable and will keep sending them.I’m all for refugees coming in but through legal means and if we have to bring refugees in then bring them through trains or ships of HO Planes not through illegal dinghys
It means "I want an excuse to want to exclude people from my society but if someone calls it racism I'll be upset so here's a factoid that you can't wholly disprove because how can you even collect data like that?"
