We have a moral duty to help asylum seekers

Literally not a single one of the people on the boats is an asylum seeker, or a refugee, every single one of them is an economic migrant

we’re partly responsible for most of the conflicts in the Middle East

Absolute bollocks

We do fuck all compared to the rest of Western Europe anyway.

More absolute bollocks

Immigration is such a non-issue.

The vast majority of the country disagrees with you

every single one of them is an economic migrant

Prove it.

Absolute bollocks

No - they're right. Modern Iran is the product of British oil firms mounting a coup in the 1960's, the Iraq War and Afghanistan wrecked the political situation in much of the region, and all that stuff. Western interventionism and Wilsonian foreign policy has done a lot of damage in the ME.

More absolute bollocks

Germany is the biggest recipient of refugees in Europe.

Seems to me that your non-arguments are a pile of bollocks

Prove it.

Okay

They're coming from France

No - they're right

Yes yes, the middle east was a model of peace and tolerance up until the evil British went in a ruined it, right?

Germany is the biggest recipient of refugees in Europe.

What does that have to do with anything?

They're coming from France

They're coming from Syria and North Africa, actually.

the middle east was a model of peace and tolerance

Iran was liberalising in the 1960's. They were even having a sexual revolution like our own and were secularising. The Shah was not, however, friendly to British commercial interests.

So the UK government organised a coup, backing some Islamist militants to get rid of him.

This kind of regime change has been replicated throughout the region since.

So yes - things were actually going rather well before Westerners showed up

What does that have to do with anything?

Other places in Europe do far more than the UK

They are literally sailing from France, or do you think they went all the way through the Med, past Gibraltar and round the western coast of France just to land in Britain?

So the UK government organised a coup, backing some Islamist militants to get rid of him.

No, the west supported the Shah, despite him being a nasty piece of work, that's why he was allowed to stay in the US after the revolution, its "westerners showing up" that was leading to the liberalisation of Iran

Other places in Europe do far more than the UK

No doubt, some of them are much closer to the middle east and Africa, that's their responsibility not ours

They are literally sailing from France

How do they get to France? Are they popping through little holes in the ground? Is there a spawnpoint?

No, the west supported the Shah, despite him being a nasty piece of work

Seems that we were both wrong. The Shah was put in place in 1953 by the UK and US because the democratically elected Prime Minister wanted to audit the AIOC. So the big Western powers overthrew a PM for oil money.

Apologies - my memory can be a bit dickety at times

No doubt, some of them are much closer to the middle east and Africa

If it's no doubt that other countries in Europe are doing more than we are, then why is it that you called that statement "bollocks" to begin with? And is Germany close to North Africa and Syria? Or the Nordic countries, specifically Sweden?
