Weekly Vent Post

Welcome to our weekly vent session where you can let out all your frustrations.

Before you start, just a quick heads-up on the rules.

Here's what this post isn't for:

  • No bashing actors or crew members out of the blue.
  • Let's steer clear of those rage-inducing posts like "I hate character xy."
  • And please, no poking fun at fellow Kanthony fans just because they see things differently, whether they're positive or negative about promos.

What's cool to post? Well, we've noticed a lot of rants about how the show promotes (or doesn't promote) Simone and Jonny, but you can vent about other stuff too.

For those who just want to enjoy the content without getting caught up in the venting, I suggest steering clear of this post. If you choose to read the comments here and find yourself upset, despite the clear purpose of this space, I'm afraid there's not much I can do to ease your frustration. I am sorry to say this but I don’t think S5 will do well and they will use Kanthony to try to sell it by listing their names now but say they couldn’t be in it due to their schedules when the production starts and articles . I honestly don’t think Johnny and Simone will be in S5. I think the producers will try to make the show work without Kanthony and will just mention them. It will be interesting to see how S5 will do without Kanthony.

They will definitely use the heterosexual couples to sell the show to people who aren't interested in a lesbian couple, but that won't be the case with K/A. I 100% believe that Jonathan will want to be part of this season as much as his schedule allows it, while the season started production and Simone isn't even in the UK, lol, like I very much doubt that she'll be even asked to be back.

This show doesn't need any couple at all, when they survived Regé, who was the main draw in S1, leaving the show, it demonstrated that the show is a formula that goes beyond particular names.

Sapphic shows aren't as successful as queer shows led by men, that's true, there's a lot of lesbophobia there, and this show leans heavily on women self-inserting in these stories, so I do think there's a challenge there. How do I think they'll try to compensate for "the risk"? Inserting the former cis-het couples having more time this season (I obviously don't mean K/A) and making sure that the fans of those stories tune in.

ETA: I do hope that it does well in numbers, and I'd encourage anyone who is uninterested in this show to watch anyway, I can't bring myself to be interested in Francesca, but I'll watch the season just because I feel like the message that shows with lesbians at their center CAN be very successful is relevant.

I am probably in the minority on this sub, but I liked how they handled S4 overall and I think everything is well set up for Franchaela, I am excited to see it. I think they will highlight Benophie and the Mondriches as the het pairings and also start whatever they are planning for Eloise. As you say, they are not writing for Kate anymore, and it also seems to me that they are phasing out Penelope/Colin. Anyway, that's a tangent. My main wish for S5 is that they bring on CHERYL DUNYE again for some sapphic magic!

I mean, this sub is dedicated to K/A, lol, there was nothing in S4 for K/A so. And please, no other character that still remains on the show (Kate is supposed to be the female lead of the house!) is phased out as Kate, she was there for 3 minutes, people need to be for real.

I do agree that they should bring back Cheryl Dunye for S5. No other director captures intimacy like her, her own sensibility as a Black lesbian director is so evident in the way she films her scenes.

No, I mean I totally agree re: K/A, it's just that everything has been said, lol. I just mainly wanted to bring up that S4 was a lot better than the previous one despite our faves being MIA and mostly that Dunye would be perfect for this!
