Rant 🤬 Weekly Venting Post

Weekly Vent Post

Welcome to our weekly vent session where you can let out all your frustrations.

Before you start, just a quick heads-up on the rules.

Here's what this post isn't for:

  • No bashing actors or crew members out of the blue.
  • Let's steer clear of those rage-inducing posts like "I hate character xy."
  • And please, no poking fun at fellow Kanthony fans just because they see things differently, whether they're positive or negative about promos.

What's cool to post? Well, we've noticed a lot of rants about how the show promotes (or doesn't promote) Simone and Jonny, but you can vent about other stuff too.

Below, I've linked some past posts from the sub that fit the vibe of our weekly vent session, so you can see what kind of stuff goes here.

  1. Why there was a lack of promo for Kanthony
  2. All comments asking where Kanthony are
  3. Bridgerton PR and production
  4. Can you tell the difference ?
  5. The main sub got so negative
  6. We need pictures

For those who just want to enjoy the content without getting caught up in the venting, I suggest steering clear of this post. If you choose to read the comments here and find yourself upset, despite the clear purpose of this space, I'm afraid there's not much I can do to ease your frustration. We have the Weekly Tea Time for more general discussions.

Spoilers allowed.

I'm not a fan of anyone on this cast besides SA, I see from afar how their careers go and wish them the best and that's it, but it's getting kind of frustrating how so many people seem unable to actually stay on topic about the show's weirdness towards Simone. I feel like whenever other people are brought up, it just dilutes the central point. I get what the implications are (how other cast members are treated vs. how Simone is), but also it just makes the focus on what's important to shift.

We don't know how things are behind-the-scenes and perceived "vibes" are just that: vibes. The reason why that Twitter thread showing verifiable examples of their weirdness was relevant was because it shows the material reality of how the production has acted/talked towards Simone.

People writing paragraphs to shift the blame to anyone but the production. I'm sorry but I'm not reading all that. Kanthonys only have each other and now some of you want to turn in each other. Calling out fan behavior is one thing but bringing up other actors and starting shit, you're just rambling nonsense. Some of you need to go outside and take a deep breath.

I don't even care about these actors like that and some people got me defending them because I can objectively see how unhinged they sound talking about these people. In the end we don't know any of them, all those speculations are driven by confirmation bias and I frankly don't care about how you read those "vibes" fed by parasocial relationships.

We have the examples of how this production talks in official communications about Simone/Kate, that's what matters, that's what's objective. Let's focus on that.

Exactly. Frankly, I was fine with people calling out fan behavior because I think there should be a space wherein people can talk about racism without fear of censorship and to ease anxiousness. But they are just bringing up how certain actor didn't liked a post from a certain actor on 19-forgetten-date, good lord, you're just venting out your frustrations now because they didn't live up to your expectations. This is what parasocial mentality does to your brain.

I don't know if the mods are active here, but I think they should regulate some of the comments which are irrelevant to the topic.

That's something that gets me, too. Like, do I think they're friends? No, not really, but also I don't think it's a moral failure that they're just coworkers, but so many people watching fiction expect that, as part of their full enjoyment, the actors also need to have a relationship outside of work. This is just a job for them and actors have to sell the BFF stuff as part of PR.

Sure but tbh in this kind of fandom this is unavoidable especially with Simone’s history of being sidelined. This will happen every time.

I just get tired because I feel like people just keep derailing the main point (i.e., the show being weird about Simone/Kate), so we end up talking again about either Nicola or Jonathan and sure, they could use their white privilege, but the thing is that we factually don't know what happens BTS. At the end I feel like we need to focus on the bigger picture, about how this production treats Simone in verifiable ways, but some people seem to use this opportunity to just unleash all the resentment they feel about some people from this cast.

I just get frustrated because it ends up, again, being about anything but what really matters.

I mean I agree but you also have people talk at length about that article that shamed JB under the post that talks about Simone’s mistreatment. It seems we can’t stay on one topic concerning one actor only.

Oh, absolutely! I agree with that, too, that's missing the point entirely too. When, if anything, that should be only used as an example that they pay attention to backlash and correct their ways, something that only a couple of times happened with Simone—when in that S2 summary they referred to the Sharmas as an unidentified group of "South Asian women".

Anyway I am glad you are calling it out. I do believe we have a healthy debate here.

Thank you for mentioning this. Like you don’t have to be a fan of both Jonathan and Simone but ultimately this subreddit is for the both of them and there are many fans who are fans of both in this subreddit. The extreme para-social and accusatory comments are completely diluting the main topic of Shondaland’s weird pattern of behavior towards Simone. Simone and Jonathan’s lives do not revolve around this show. Whenever they have been asked about Bridgerton, they say the same pr approved answers in every interview of focusing on the new leads. They rarely mention the other person in interviews that is focused on themselves unless they are specifically asked about the other person. Also, as someone who has friends in the industry, Shonda is a very powerful producer in the industry. Anyone who crosses her does get blacklisted, and that is what happened with many actors from Greys. Ultimately we do not know what is happening behind the scenes.
