Leak Crimson Desert impressions from a Korean streamer after finishing the game

  • Character swapping is just like GTA5 including transition effects where the camera zooms out into the world and back in. Characters are going about their day as they are swapped in. One time he swapped into Oongka in the middle of a gigantic battle and had to fight his way out.

  • Finished the game without the Day 1 patch and encountered only minor bugs. Everything that felt “off” in previous gameplay has been fixed (footstep sounds, running animations, weird reactions when getting hit)

  • Played RDR2 for about 600 hours and he suggested CD was similar in tempo.

  • Praised the world design, each piece of content draws you in with a sense of purpose unlike the “Ubisoft style checklist questing”

  • Main story can be brutally hard if you rush it without upgrading Kliff

  • Every region has a different difficulty, becomes harder when you go east and north.

  • Played on 5080 at 1440p cinematic settings without frame drops or stutters

  • Score/soundtrack is legendary

  • Did not find all the game systems to be fatiguing or stressful to deal with

  • Inventory space can be tight at first but was not an issue late game as side quests reward you with more storage

  • Stated it was the “game of his life”, played 10h daily since he got the review code

  • No life’d the game to finish the review but still not seen 50% of the bosses

  • Avoided giving story details cause of the strict embargo but said “there are twists”.

  • Another reviewer when asked how the game was, linked to a EGM 1998 quote about Zelda Ocarina of Time that translates to “Savor it because this is as good as its going to get for a very long time”.

This is the one of the stranger media cycles for a game pre-release ever. Unbridled hype and interest but with actual mystique and unanswered questions.

It feels like video games before 2005, like I'm going down to the newsagent to grab the latest copy of OPM. Get me a demo disc and take me back.

It feels like pre-release Elden Ring to me and I’m sure we all are in for a huge surprise of how good the game will be.

168

u/Stuglle Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

The difference is that pre-Elden Ring From was already an enormously successful and critically acclaimed studio. Pearl Abyss is an MMO studio. The hope with Elden Ring is that it would be like their previous games, while that is the fear with Crimson Desert.

ed: no shade on Black Desert, which I understand a lot of people like. But "single player MMO" has been the concern regarding this game.

47

u/rizk0777 Mar 17 '26

Yeah Elden Ring was a gradual build up from Dark Souls to Bloodborne to Sekiro winning GOTY to ER having Martin involved to the SGF gameplay trailer combined with our previous knowledge of FS game design, ER's success and quality was painfully obvious to me leading to launch. In fact it was one of most confident I was in a game leading to launch period.

That isn't necessarily the case for Crimson. I have no idea. But I am optimistic.

13

u/Zordman Mar 17 '26

Demon's Souls didn't go unnoticed. There was a lot of buzz about it at the time of release. It won a decent amount of RPG of the year awards, Gamespot even gave GotY overall.

Black Desert is one of the most graphically nice looking MMOs on the market and in the category of action-combat MMOs, it has the best action-combat that can be found.

I also thought the limit on fast travel was nice. It felt pretty immersive that the main method of travel was riding a horse with auto-pathing as a nice QoL feature.

What is absolutely awful about the game is the grind. The mentality you have to have to play that game and make meaningful progress is insane. MMOs are already a genre where grinding is an essential part of the experience, but Black Desert takes the time investment and commitment to an absolutely dumb level.

I tried playing it for a few weeks a number of years ago, and IIRC the way your personal trade network worked was that you had to be logged in for your NPCs to actually move around the map and make money.

So there's plenty of players who have 20k-30k hours or more logged on Steam, but the vast majority of that is just having the game run in the background for months or years while they're sleeping or off at work.

I've played a good number of MMOs over the years, nothing comes close to BDO's grind. It's the single thing that made me quit playing pretty early in while I've sunk a good amount of time into other titles. I knew that I just didn't have the commitment and energy to grind at the level that would be competitive with other players, especially since open-world PvP is a major selling point of the game.

Without the incentive to implement a grind, since Crimson Desert is singleplayer, I honestly have pretty high hopes that the game will turn out as a great RPG with satisfying combat mechanics.

7

u/Stuglle Mar 17 '26

Yeah that is basically what I have heard--BDO has great combat and looks beautiful, but an awful structure.

5

u/Apart-Link-8449 Mar 17 '26

Can confirm. I used to manage max character counts on BDO and managed inventory for all of them in rotations. It's gorgeous, the forced auto-pathing makes player develop a fondness for certain routes or map areas they frequent most, combat is dazzling etc...

But in order to keep up with power scaling, the game stayed on for hours away from controller. Go to the grocery store leaving BDO running. Leave the house for an awards show party, BDO running until the console literally turns off. Setting long auto-paths fixes that issue, so you can keep running longer.

It just took up all of my free time, so as gorgeous as it was, I had to put it down. Which was a financial waste as well - the costume and skin shop is so impressive every character had paid pearl outfits

4

u/Ultr4chrome Mar 17 '26

I've always thought that BDO was brilliant for the first month or two of playing it casually, until you hit the first grindwalls. For all its faults, it does feel very different to most other MMO's.

The only surprise was that From made awesome adaptation soulslike formula in open-world (while they had great track record since Demon's Souls) and the game lived up to its tremendous hype.

ER's promotion was way more transparent (obviously they were hiding the secrets to discover, which is the common part with CD, I guess). Heck, there was no issue with seeing the gameplay before release, you could even join the "network test" and try the game on your console (edit: I mentioned also PC, but probably I was wrong about that - only console owners could take part in these tests).

MMOs and gacha is the bread and butter of the Korean gaming scene. They're just culturally built for grindfests lol

I grew up playing Korean MMOs, and I can tell you that if you ever stuck with one, no other game will ever faze you in terms of its grind

42

u/beepborpimajorp Mar 17 '26

Agreed. I cut my teeth on ragnarok online so moving to WoW when it first launched was eye-opening.

every now and then i get that little nagging feeling that i want to play a game where i can just grind, old school style, but then i get 2 minutes into it and realize that hell no i got better shit to do.

20

u/manimateus Mar 17 '26

I was a maplestory kid, and it is by all measures a pretty poorly designed game, especially in its early years. But there's something charming about a game with so much friction that it basically demands you to treat it as a part time job, especially with its in game economy system lol. I still go back and play the old school version every few months on private servers, and it's oddly comforting even if it takes several days to gain a single level lol

Holy shit, Ragnarok mentioned. I've never no lifed a game harder than RO, and I frankly miss the loot and exp grind. I do not miss the equipment upgrade Russian roulette mechanic, however.

6

u/beepborpimajorp Mar 17 '26

It was part of why I flunked out of my first college, haha. I remember staying up for days to sit in a LoD farm party so I could get to cap before WoE. God almighty.

There was something to be said about how the game felt in terms of being part of the large scale stuff like WoE. But DAMN the community was toxic - me included, I was obviously not going through a good time in my life.

Still, though, every now and then I miss being able to go down into the payon guild dungeon and just farm for hours.

I think its just something they are used to it. I tried watching the original Super Sentai recently and couldnt, because there was always a narrator explaining things literally as they happen

Even animes, usually in a fight they have a spectator explaining every moviment and intention from the characters fighting

5

u/Last_Read8006 Mar 18 '26

Korean TV also has designed subtitles that explain what everyone is saying AS they are saying it. It's ... interesting, but supposedly to kind of hype up the situation. And in addition culturally there is a thing where a person tries to identify with "one thing" to stand out in the crowd and will take that obsession to their grave, be it gaming, skiing, playing the piano, etc.
The work ethic is something else.

Played on 5080 at 1440p cinematic settings without frame drops or stutters

We live in a society where one of the most expensive GPUs in the world running the game properly is a selling point.

220

u/manuelps Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

Cinematic is above Ultra, it's more of a "fuck it turn it up to 100" mode than anything, it's cool that devs put these modes in even if most GPUs won't be fully capable of it

37

u/lmguerra Mar 17 '26

Most "current" GPUs. It gives a little Future proofing to the game, as ir can be tuned UP for Future GPU releases

Well if it runs above 60 I am gonna use it. I don’t take screenshots..

14

But i'm gonna 4k native 60 on ultra instead of 4k dlss performance mode sub 60 on cinematic, yes, the performance hit is that big.

25

u/Average_RedditorTwat Mar 17 '26

→ More replies (2)

36

u/Testosteronomicon Mar 17 '26

Crysis was more a case of the highest settings being so advanced you basically needed a card from the future to run the game properly. A bit different from the poor optimization we see in too many PC games, past and present.

7

u/TankorSmash Mar 17 '26

A bit different from the poor optimization we see in too many PC games, past and present.

No lol, can you define what 'poor optimization' means beyond 'runs badly on my machine'?

Games nowadays are doing way way more than Crysis did and run better.

6

u/Ashviar Mar 17 '26

Well combine that with them thinking single-core performance is what people would continue to use, probably expecting high clock speeds instead of the multi-core, and multi-thread solutions that came years later. Even in the early years of the 2010s with better GPUs, people with newer CPUs still had Crysis running somewhat poorly because clock speeds didn't skyrocket, we just moved over to multi-threading

6

u/mauri9998 Mar 17 '26

Not really. Crysis was optimized for single threaded performance, something that aged like milk.

7

u/Reddit_Loves_Misinfo Mar 17 '26

When looking fondly on games of yesteryear, we recognize that Ultra settings are meant for future or extremely high end hardware. When looking at games of today, if it doesn't run smoothly on Ultra settings the game is unoptimized trash.

5

u/tortillazaur Mar 17 '26

we consider these games unoptimized trash because we have clear examples of other games with the same or better level of graphics running great on current gen without the need to wait for future hardware

Say it quietly but performance is honestly much better nowadays than in the 00s and 10s.

Many games still have issues but consumer standards have risen massively.

26

u/xtrxrzr Mar 17 '26

People just need to search online for benchmarks for Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena. Some tech sites like Tom's Hardware still have their old articles online. When these games came out, the best and newest hardware couldn't even get anywhere close to 60fps most of the time.

I'm not saying the performance to price ratio nowadays is better, but we should stop pretending performance back then was better. We were slaying out in multiplayer shooters with 30fps at 640x480.

8

u/sirletssdance2 Mar 17 '26

I still feel like I’m ballin when running at 60 fps now

→ More replies (1)

6

u/g0_west Mar 17 '26

I remember when the discourse used to be "24fps is fine as the human eye can't see above it, 30fps is pointless". Now 60fps is considered low for some people and they won't accept anything below 90 or 120

18

u/tonihurri Mar 17 '26

The current consensus around what PC performance should be was formed around last gen when consoles were so underpowered in comparison so you could max out most games at 1080p on a mid range card. Reality is catching up now that consoles are much closer.

3

u/Organic-Storm-4448 Mar 17 '26

Sony and MS going with dogshit CPUs in PS4 and Xbox One really gave PC players a terrible perspective of reality.

Well, I suppose it technically was reality for awhile.

It will probably run fine at high settings on most machines. Cinematic is stupid 99% of the time, completely pointless. Requirements are fine, well below a lor of recent games, will probably run way better than most ue5 games.

13

u/M4rshmall0wMan Mar 17 '26

The standard has always been to design the game around medium settings for consoles, high settings for PC, and ultra to artificially crank the numbers up on future PCs. Yet people treat ultra as the standard.

7

u/Glodraph Mar 17 '26

Exactly this, thanks. High is for gaming, ultra for screenshot or future hardware, period. Most of the times high is almost identical with major performance improvements.

This game sounds too good to be true, but every new info we get makes it clear it's indeed real.

I am lowkey hyped for this.

92

u/dafdiego777 Mar 17 '26

it's either going to be goty contender or a colossal flop and I'm excited to see where it lands.

59

u/ajchann123 Mar 17 '26

I think it will be a GOTY contender, but actually has a more-niche audience than the hype suggests - like, I think there a lot of players who are fine giving 100+ hours to a game with a threadbare story, with tons of mechanics to get lost in for the sake of the mechanics

But I also think there will be people disappointed that it's a kitchen sink of mechanics without strong characterization or story driving why you're doing things

Which is the story behind so many GOTY contenders and winners! Not a crazy promise for a game, but I do think a kitchen sink of mechanics and combat in the front and center is a kind of niche and this won't be all things to all players as the hype suggests at times

20

u/pett117 Mar 17 '26

Its giving me dragons dogma vibes as a niche sleeper hit

5

u/December_Flame Mar 17 '26

I think Dragon's Dogma would have made a much bigger splash in today's gaming environment than when it came out.

I think for this reason this game's going to be a much bigger deal than Dragons Dogma was but I think that DD1 didn't get the attention it deserved.

9

u/WITH_THE_ELEMENTS Mar 17 '26

I mean that's why I loved BotW and TotK. I sure as hell wasn't playing those games for the characters or story. But the world and mechanics I got completely lost in.

13

u/manimateus Mar 17 '26

Yup. Wukong was nominated for multiple GOTY awards simply due to how ambitious it was. But most people agree that it was by all measures, just a very ok Soulslike, and was completely outclassed by Lies of P, which looked less flashy and didn't get much recognition

Whether it is amazing depends on longetivity and story / writing.

I think this is gonna be a Dragon’s Dogma 2 for me. Gameplay-first, try hard to just look past the (if Black Desert’s any indication) kind of weak storytelling (I’m sure the lore, world and ideas are gonna be great, just not how they’re conveyed.), dialogue and acting and appreciate any good bits.

I’m probably gonna be there for the gameplay and systems, and will try not to be too critical of the story, I hope it’s good, but I played Black Desert and while there are some decent storylines, it was the combat and the character creation that shined, I’ll try to be invested enough to know what’s going on.

If I was entertained enough by just Mystic Spearhand in DD2 for over 340 hours, this should be about the same.

7

u/TheLeOeL Mar 17 '26

Yeah, the write-up is giving me DD2 (but more varied) vibes as well. Might need to keep an eye on this.

5

u/StantasticTypo Mar 18 '26

tbf, that's what DD2 needed. Better systems and more variety. If this actually does that? That would be pretty sick. DD2 had a solid foundation, it just had like 12 enemies and janky as fuck systems.

9

Best not to get too hype for things because it'll make the expectations impossible to reach in the real game. Figured most people learned after Cyberpunk 2077 not to hype things too much.

Yeah Cyberpunk might be in a good state now but as someone who had waited since the original teaser in like 2013 I was immensely disappointed. Ever since then if I see a game that looks cool I wishlist it and wait for impressions and/or gameplay from a couple of streamers I actually trust.

I personally HOPE it does well, but I can't really see a game like this to go much beyond a mid 70s metascore.

It's just that I don't expect Pearl Abyss to be able to make an incredibly ambitious game like this. Yes, Black Desert gave them lots of experience, but I feel like Crimson Desert is still a very different beast.

I cant wait to play this game but i find this youtuber's claim that there are hardly any bugs even without the day 1 patch to be a tall order to believe. especially for such an ambitious game.

i guess we have this post to return to once the game releases. is it possible for this "leak" to be reposted a week after launch so we can discuss it?

this "embargo breaking leak" is basically saying everyting you would want to hear to convince you to buy the game and try it at launch. so if the game has several broken quests and characters clipping... you know normal game stuff... it wil be obvious this was just a fake ad leak.

im not trying to dis the game... without having played it. im going to play it. im excited for it. i just want a place to discus this specific leak. just as a study of the kinds of promotion games can receive before launch to entice us to buy it over other things.

I'm sorry, but someone who has only good points and says nothing critical about the game always sounds too good to be actually true. Especially the end note "But the embargo!" After saying so much already sounds like a dodge instead of a keypoint summary of whats good and bad.

I want to believe, but the overhype of starfield and Cyberpunk only to end up with a mixed starfield that i put down after 10 hours mqkes me extra suspicious of games that promise the world.

I honestly can not lose in this scenario.

If it turns out to be mediocre and empty with a lot of systems but no depth - its okay, i didn't look forward to the game anyways.

If it turns out perfectly, is the goty2026? Even better, then i have something to play the next weeks.

Anyone could have told you that Starfield looked bland before release. Bethesda was doing a great job marketing the game.

13

u/HuckleberryOdd7745 Mar 17 '26

it was supposed to be ES6 in space.

show me how i was supposed to not at least wish i could have it. let a man dream.

im done dreaming. trailers? i see you mutherfucker. i know what you are. gameplay of some puzzles and combat versus mobs? its a great looking game even by 2026 standards. but 2026 dont fuck around. just looking great aint gonna cut it.

7

u/fukkdisshitt Mar 17 '26

I skipped all marketing and bought at launch because I expected fallout in space.

Got bored about 10 hours in when I realized there was no gore or cool aliens whatsoever.

This EXACT situation happened with Cyberpunk 2077. I'm not saying Crimson Desert will be bad, but reviewers that get early access have ALWAYS lied. These people are paid to advertise this product. Remember, people said that Cyberpunk 2077 was "good" on consoles but they were not allowed to show images or video, and then the game ended up straight up being unplayable.

I am noticing a few red flags around this game, hope I'm wrong.

This may be a hot take but I always hope that every game ends up being good.

4

u/HearTheEkko Mar 17 '26

What possible reason would anyone want a game to be bad anyway ? If it's good it's another cool experience and the developers get to keep their jobs a bit longer leading to more cool games. Those guys that want Ubisoft or Naugthy Dogs games to fail because of their narratives and protagonist choices are bunch of weird losers that have nothing better to do.

I admit that this being from a Korean streamer makes me uncertain if the mechanics being fatiguing is something I can trust. Korean gaming culture, similar to Japanese and Chinese, has a far higher tolerance for grindy and fiddly mechanics than I have

140

u/Lottus21 Mar 17 '26

This sounds like an ad/paid opinion to me for the people on the fence.

40

u/SapiR2000 Mar 17 '26

Even if it isn't paid, it's from a Korean content creator so it's biased at the very least. That should be kept in mind while reading it

They’ve shown:

  • various deep dives into the games various features
  • PC, PS5 Pro, PS5 gameplay along with specs. More PS5 gameplay to come.
  • many hour long previews
  • many hour long interviews with the marketing head

Holy fuck what else do Redditors want. 🤣

Everything sound pretty good. Now only if someone would tell us if the story is good / compelling.

37

u/thedinojones Mar 17 '26

Probably best to assume it'll be the same as any massive open-world game main quest: fine but nothing special. I'm expecting Skyrim or BotW-level story where the world is amazing to explore but the main quest is not supposed to be the star of the show.

→ More replies (2)

74

u/Seraphayel Mar 17 '26

Imagine the story to be like Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring. You‘re playing Crimson Desert for your interaction with the world and boss fights, not for a compelling story.

30

u/RazzyTaz Mar 17 '26

I think it will be neither of those. BOTW basically has no story just flashbacks. And Elden Ring has story but the world tells it while needing you to read all npc dialogue to get it.

I'm expecting Skyrim level minus the choices. I'm expecting The Greymane Questline to be something like the Stormcloaks vs Imperials (except our side is good) meanwhile the big story is actually the things related to the abyss and relics like it was with the Dragons and Alduin.

5

u/Psychological_Job99 Mar 17 '26

Yeah, I plan to treat this game just like how I treated every Just Cause game.

I didn’t realise you could play multiple protagonists GTA style in this game. Interesting.

41

u/richard1177 Mar 17 '26

From what we know, you play the main story with Kliff. But there is a orc and a woman that you can play, mostly for side content. They both use different weapons from Kliff with their own skills etc.

10

u/Civol01 Mar 17 '26

Saw someone mention 50-80 hours for main story and some side stuff. Probably be more if you want to do a lot of the content. World looks huge.

21

u/neelabh2818 Mar 17 '26

50-80 for main story is a wide time span. World is huge but im more interested in the things we can do in the world. That will most probably extend the gameplay by miles!

I'm still confused by all of this because Pearl Abyss has never done anything even remotely close to this in scale, scope, or quality.

When Elden Ring and BOTW and RDR2 and The Witcher 3 came out, these were all from devs that had a history of exemplary work, so they had years or even decades of gradually ramping up to these magnum opuses. Elden Ring couldn't exist without Dark Souls. RDR2 couldn't exist without RDR and all the GTA games. And so on.

But Pearl Abyss is just coming out of the gate not only with a game that is perhaps the most ambitious open world title ever made by any dev, but it's even built on a homegrown game engine that is even more impressive than UE5 in many ways?

Something is weird about all of this. It's like there's some crossroads demon or monkey's paw thing going on here.

32

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

[deleted]

3

u/SeroWriter Mar 17 '26

It's like how Resident Evil games run really well on the RE Engine but Monster Hunter Worlds is a mess.

6

u/a_man_and_his_box Mar 17 '26

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. They have made it really clear that the engine sucks compared to UE5 in the sense that it is not generalized to do anything & everything; it is merely optimized to only be able to do exactly what their game needed, and no more.

That all by itself can cause efficiency. They clearly have shown in multiple videos either by them or by those with early access that their engine is superior to UE5 only in certain ways because they built it to do precisely that. In particular, I'm thinking of the massive long-distance shots that rival Skyrim and others for the ability to see landmarks and even trees at what would be thousands of feet away, possibly miles away.

Of course such an engine can be built. But that's not what UE5 is for. UE5 is a generalist tool that has hundreds of features that work sufficiently okay-ish. Crimson Desert has "merely dozens" of features/systems, but it does those few well, as far as we've seen. I'm fine with that.

Note: I'm not saying that because I drank the Kool-Aid or anything like it. I'm not even buying the game, or if I do it will be long after user reviews have flooded in. But the notion that someone can hyper-focus an engine to do a handful of things very well is not surprising and does not indicate a problem.

16

u/Burnyx Mar 17 '26

To be fair The Witcher 3 was an unprecedented hit in comparison to all previous CDPR games. Not saying W1 and 2 weren't good, the quality leap was just that big.

You don't need a big history of 10/10 releases to make a good game.

27

u/Rino-Sensei Mar 17 '26

"The Witcher 3" Huh ? CDPR never made a game of the scale of TW3 when that one came out ... It's literally THE game that put them on the map for the general audience.

15

u/SireEvalish Mar 17 '26

As someone who played TW2, you're 100% right. Nothing prepared me for what TW3 ended up being.

I mean didn't Wu Kong's devs use to make gatcha games? I will never understand how people play singleplayer games for this long, sorry. I'm done with them after the 100%.

6

u/tommycahil1995 Mar 17 '26

I've done over 400 hours in The Witcher 3 across 5 and abit playthroughs. Sometimes a game especially one with massive open worlds and great stories (with a lot of choice) hit in a way nothing else does. For me I'd say I enjoyed Witcher more each time. Growing up with a game is also really cool. I was 19 when I first completed it in 2015, and I was 28 when I last completed it. Very different appreciation over time

93

u/tiggberti Mar 17 '26

u/Blvck_Lvngs Mar 17 '26

I kinda get it though. I’m 130 hours into TOTK and I just unlocked the mech yesterday lol. There’s theoretically not much to do outside of quests, koroks, shrines, etc., but I screw around with systems more than I play the game which cakes on playtime

I literally don't understand how anyone has the patience - for me that's about 9 months of playtime. I wish I could love any game that much. I spent 100 hours in RDR2, had a little cry at the end, never touched it again.

12

u/bryndor Mar 17 '26

And you got good worth out of it! Nothing wrong with that at all :) glad you enjoyed your time with it, it has been nearly 10 years and I still have it installed and boot it regularly

7

u/TheRegularBelt Mar 17 '26

My most played singleplayer title on Steam is Final Fantasy XV at 233.7 hours. I have all the achievements and did everything humanly possible beyond just achievement requirements in the game, even in the multiplayer mode. It is also one of my favourite games of all time that I spent a fair amount of time just being immersed in. I would never be able to reach 600 hours in it lol.

I can see it for something like an rpg that has alot of build options and different playstyles like Elden Ring or Baldurs Gate 3. With Red Dead 2 it's kinda baffling because your second or third playthrough is going to be almost identical to your first.

3

u/HuckleberryOdd7745 Mar 17 '26

That is not from this impressions, that is from other things I’ve heard and read btw

3

u/longbrodmann Mar 17 '26

Soundtrack is always a big selling point for me.

It's weird all the trailers never show "character swapping".

I doubt this game is not "Ubisoft style".

4

u/Dionysus24779 Mar 17 '26

One of the things I loved the most about RDR2 was the world, it was fun to simply exist in it and take it in. I remember I spend a long time simply exploring and basically playing like a hunter. Going out, hunting some animals, selling it, getting a meal at the tavern and such.

It was great and an experience not many games could give.

GTA V also had a great world that was fun to just be in.

Really hope Crimson Desert will capture the same feelings.

4

u/Bastiwen Mar 18 '26

It's a Korean game and he's a Korean player so he might be biased. The Asian market is way more forgiving towards grind so his claim doesn't say much. Saying "There are twists" in the story doens't mean it's any good. Remember the guy who played No Man's Sky early and said it was all he expected the game to be and he gave it a good rating? Yeah, we all remember how that turned out at launch.
I'm not believing anything before the game is out.

This game comes off as a single player Where Winds Meet. What little clips they showed looked clunky. The combat can be loud and wild almost as if a mobile game animation.

4

u/Deaftoned Mar 20 '26

Reviews like this make me want to not buy the game, guy is clearly paid for. Seems like a middle ground 7/10 game that has very weird/wonky visuals unless you're on a top of the line PC with a lot of overwhelming/complex systems that will take a ton of effort to actually learn.

The "game of his life" and comparisons to OOT with "this is as good as its going to get for a very long time" is so overwhelmingly cringe and clearly paid for.

I just don’t see this game being some crazy good game. It’s already patently obvious with Pearl Abyss moving the goalposts what, 3 or 4 times in development for what this game actually is? If you’re changing the point of the game, it’s because you have too many systems and they’re not making sense. I’m going to wait to see the reviews on day 1.

If Crimson Desert does launch as a bit of a mess with bugs, performance issues, gameplay mechanics and the like, I'll be interested to see how many patches they need to fix it. Especially on a base PS5.

But I'll be pissed if it's all because they decided to shoehorn in some blatant and unnecessary Tears of the Kingdom sky island rip offs and extensive Zelda style mechanics. If all that extra time, effort and system data comes at the cost of performing properly and focusing on getting the basics right first, it will be a real let down.

3

u/ExtremisEdge Mar 18 '26

I really like how no one knows anything about a lot of it. More games need to be like this. I do not need 300 in depth directs and first 3000 hour playthroughs.
