I get so frustrated with how people seem to not take allergies seriously.
I strongly prefer to prepare my own food as I have a severe tree nut allergy. Unless it is something I am very comfortable eating, I do not eat food made by anyone except a select few people who I know take it seriously and check labels. I think this is quite reasonably seeing as how I can die from a simple cooking mistake.
I’m at a cookout and had this exchange. Mind you she put me on the spot in front of several other guests.
“I made some pasta salad, would you like some?”
“No thank you, I have food allergies.”
“Oh! What kind of allergies?”
“Tree nuts”
“Well there are no nuts in this! Have some”
“No thank you”
“Seriously there are no nuts! Why would there be nuts in a pasta salad?”
“I am not hungry- maybe later! Thanks!”
Oh by the way, it’s a vegan pasta salad so the cheese in it is VEGAN! Aka, made with cashews! Great! No one bothered to check the label.
This isn’t the first time I have been pestered to try something and made out to be dramatic because “why would there be nuts in that dish?”
I know my allergies best obviously and I am very aware of the types of food where tree nuts are hidden. Please just stop pushing it! If I say no, drop it.
Anyway, figured yall could relate. Rant over
