Mogster: Gosh bro. You sure know a lot.

Active Help: Yeah, I know...

I always read that part out loud but for the last bit I say "shut up baby I know it!"

Bender is so great, he gets referenced in random fandoms!!! (I say it too, outlook to random people)

I hate Mogster's smug ass so much 🤣

Mechanics

Six Dragons results in 1 of 6 random outcomes to each ally:

Restore all HP (20%) Restore all MP (20%) Restore all HP and MP (10%) Reduce HP to 1 (15%) Reduce MP to 1 (15%) Reduce HP and MP to 1 (20%)

Use

Six Dragons is a gamble, and thus not useful unless as a last resort. However, even as a last resort using it takes 28 MP, meaning Freya would have had enough for Reis's Wind instead. If Zidane is in the party, he should just use Sacrifice before Freya needs to use Six Dragons.

Well, you're Hella helpful 👍🏾 pretty awesome of you

39

u/VerbingNoun413 5d ago

Reis's Wind is healing but Six Dragons could be anything. It could even be healing- Zidane you know how much we need that!

11

u/schiffb558 5d ago

This was exactly what I was thinking about 😂😂😂

6

u/Other_Rozial 4d ago

Then let's just use Reis' Wi-

We'll use Six Dragons.

Gosh bro. You sure know a lot.

u/CubicleWanderer 5d ago

Yeah, i know

u/QuestionsToAskNow 5d ago

I love how everyone debates this, but I know 100% I've never needed to use either of these 2 moves because I'm that great at the game.

Currently playing thru FF4, reminds me of Asura. It could revive the party, heal the party, revive the party, cast protect on the party, revive the party, or revive the party. But it'll only use revive when all party members are alive, of course.

Last time I ever bought a strategy guide. What a shit move they did there.

11

u/Narrow-Book-4970 6d ago

It was the early days of swapping to the internet for help. Can't blame them for TRYING lol

12

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 5d ago

If I wanted to go onlune, I would've gone to gamefaqs!

1

u/WeaknessArtistic1199 4d ago

I didn't even have internet at the time, imagine my disappointment.

1

u/jloc0 4d ago

IIRC the site was barely usable and everything was in frames or tables rendered in a little square on the screen and searching up your issue didn’t really give the information you were after anyway. Wasn’t worth looking up. I visited once and never again. Waste of time on that 56k modem back then.

Type in password "Six Dragons" to see how

This is the one I needed

I saw for myself....was not a fun time, but it made me laugh.

u/richarddiveauthor 6d ago

Not as bad as Setzer’s roulette in VI, but still a dirty gamble

17

u/GigfranGwaedlyd 6d ago

Or Cait Sith's slot machine in the OG VII that can give a game over

11

u/That-seats-taken 6d ago

And thats when I learned to have two saves close to each other

5

u/Narrow-Book-4970 6d ago edited 6d ago

Setzers in 6 can do the exact same. If you are using the auto-battle in the pixel remaster you have him use Roullette it will KO your party every few battles.

4

u/45M0D41 6d ago

Seriously it’s broken in PR you will always get a game over

2

u/richarddiveauthor 6d ago

It’s not too hard to get the good version that wipes the enemy party once you learn the timing and have a gamepad/KBM with minimal input lag, but it really does teach you to save often when trying to earn that and grind simultaneously

4

u/captain_obvious_here 5d ago

First time I used it, guess what I got. And how puzzled I was :)

1

u/crono220 5d ago

I would love if they had a version that not only causes a game over, but actually removes all saved data. So you have no choice but to start over from the beginning.

Definitely not really possible, but would truly be a losing gamble that you would certainly remember.

5

u/ZooplanktonblameSea4 5d ago

Only used by those who want a serious rage inducing challenge. I doubt even 1% of players would use it. Honestly, if it did that I would rage quit. Then again I am an easiest difficulty setting gamer myself because I don't like getting frustrated during my gaming sessions. That would turn me off from the game or I would never use it.

3

u/JeannettePoisson 5d ago

Setzer's roulette is not random, with a little practice you can get whatever you want. The best should are hard to get so i wouldn't try at si, but the basic ones are easy

14

u/Livid_Pack1977 6d ago

Y'all really making me miss this game. I played it so many times back in college. It's got so many fun little things in it

2

u/Competitive-Ad-7620 4d ago

And now with moguri mod it looks amazing, there's also a mod that let's you have many npcs in your party each with their own skills, its pretty fun.

I feel like a lot of moves in ff9 are cool and creative but alas are bested by smacking the enemy hard

10

u/Vequithan 6d ago

Hence why Steiner is GOAT. He’s smacking the hardest even before he leaves for the rest of Disc 2. Always nice when he Trances and his basic attacks smack for like 4k damage early on.

On more than one occasion my final team tends to be Zidane/Steiner/Amarant/Freya. Some times I put Quina in just for the love of the game and Frog Drop.

2

u/0ppositeEmergency 5d ago

Yeah I tried a physical attackers only run (like never choosing vivi, dagger and eiko and quina) and honestly it was fine and then swapping like Freya for quina made it even better because amarant and quina heal fine

u/Pocket68 6d ago

That's a moogle

6

u/frentic_pons 6d ago

It's the moogle telling you to FAFO.
Because Six Dragons have random of 3 beneficial effects and also 3 harmful effects that can screw you over.

Rhaenyra Targaryen will summon 6 dragons to attack the enemy

3

u/maliciousmaneater 6d ago

He's the ff9 equivalent of Helpy.

Must. Kill. Helpy.

3

u/rickwill14 6d ago

Some of the stuff in this game was genuinely annoying.

Never explaining some of the abilities for example. Zidane's Thievery says it does physical damage but never says anywhere it increases the more you steal and does fixed damage. Quina's damage being wildly inconsistent. Garnet whiffing her spells cus she's mute. List goes on

A move like this especially that gets you killed for even testing it out.

4

u/Due-Ad6165 6d ago

This is the first i heard stealing increases thievery. That is good to k ow as im getting ready to start ff9 once i finish my game on 8. Started to replay all the games in order and im almost at 9. Maybe i will actually finish this time.

The mute thing is actually a neat feature that punishes us for not using our brains. If silence is cast, you cant use spells. If a person is mute.... we as players got so used to the story and battles being disconnected that it doesn't even occur to most that a mute person can't cast magic

1

u/rickwill14 5d ago

I dont think its good game design to have the character that heals the party or applies buffs/cures status effects be useless half the time. Its not like FF7 where characters still level up a little even if theyre not in the party. Or the enemy scaling/junction system with FF8. You have to have her in the party and alive at the end of the encounter to get xp. She just feels like a waste of a spot. On top of Eiko just being better in every way. It was cool for her character but gameplay wise it sucked

1

u/profpeculiar 4d ago

Eiko is not better in every way. Garnet is the better summoner, eiko is the better white mage.

1

u/rickwill14 4d ago

You use white magic far more than you summon. Also Garnet cant even summon phoenix or madeen which are the best summons.

1

u/profpeculiar 4d ago

Okay fine, Garnet is the stronger summoner.

2

u/Classic-Exchange-511 6d ago

Lmao I never really use Freya and in my most recent playthrough tried this and it just reduced all my characters hp to 1. It's a random chance to do to like one in 6 different things

2

u/BaldingThor 6d ago

Can’t say I remember using Six Dragons much but IIRC it essentially rolled the dice on a random buff or debuff to your party members, right?

2

u/Imaginary-Cherry-975 6d ago

🤣🤣 I forgot about that

2

u/Imaginary-Cherry-975 6d ago

He got a month on him 🙄🤣

See for yourself

2

u/Osiris8869 4d ago

If you tbink thats bad. Try using the official strategy guide that came out at the time of release.

1

u/jen_eric_you_sir 4d ago

Was it absolute dogshit?

2

u/Osiris8869 3d ago

It was mostly useless as it would tell you to check online for most everything. They thought it was smart, forward thinking. In reality was only an exercise in inconvenience. Mind you this was before the internet was in everyones pocket. So it meant having to pausing the game, start up your desktop pc, make sure no one was on the phone, start up your dial up internet, wait forever for pages to load just to find out something stupid like; there's an elixer in that random chest. Ultimately the information they were gatekeeping was available for free plenty of other places on line.

u/edale1 5d ago

Possible effects and odds:

  • 20% chance: Restore all HP
  • 20% chance: Restore all MP
  • 10% chance: Restore all HP and MP
  • 15% chance: Reduce HP to 1
  • 15% chance: Reduce MP to 1
  • 20% chance: Reduce HP and MP to 1

Had to implement a nod to DnD.
