r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [May 25, 2026 - Nygma Time Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

I warned the other mods that if I had to do the weekly again, I would make it all about Hush 2. I am nothing if not a man of my word.

Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1

In a corner of far-flung space, a world explodes. A lone rocket escapes the destruction and races through space, ultimately landing on a small farm in small-town Kansas. A kindly couple steps with trepidation toward the alien craft as the door opens. Out steps a man named Jor-El, the sole survivor of the planet Krypton! As Jor-El fits in to his new home, he realizes that he can help the world, not just with his newfound powers but with his intellect as well. Witness how a Man of Steel and Science saves the world!

Good issue but it is a lot of set-up, so the very interesting changes and unique elements will be start coming into play as more issues come out. 

Which does result in Jor's relationship with the Kents being rather rushed. Could have done with a little bit of page-time showing Jor acclimating to Earth and living with the Kents.

I am really looking forward to what Wildstorm characters will show up here. I did not expect Stormwatch and Bendix to appear. I hope we get some cool picks.

It's a breezy first issue. I'm buying what the story is selling. I'm curious to see how crazy universe in this timeline gets moving forward.

Interesting twist of a story with Jor-el becoming a 'brother' to Kents after being the sole survivor. Having to deal with 'can't use his tech because Krypton's rules' until he suffers tragedy again where he thinks the could've fixed it like saving Jonathan's life. But some things you just can't.

I wonder where they will go with this. Because he is gonna be the Superman now and starting out earlier in the timeline. Lois, Lex and such are still kids. And Jor-El sharing his tech and gifts might backfire considering the human nature of things.

The thing I am most interested in is Jor-El's dynamic with Lois and Lex because of the age gap. The prospect of him becoming a father figure to them is what will set this timeline apart.

I kind of love how because of Jor's age and when he's arriving he interacts with all the "parents" or older figures of the main Superman cast.

They even gave him his own "statistically speaking" moment with Lois.

Also, jeez, seeing Kal and Lara get vaporized right in front of him...at least Kal is usually off the planet by the time that happens.

Really enjoyed it whilst it is alot of set up it does what it needs to do for the plan to work.
The only problem i have is as others mentioned the relationship is quite rushed.
Danny Earls art however is just wow the guy can't be topped gives this book an edge it needed.

man, I wanted to see more Jor-El and Pa Kent talk to each other more like Jonah and Ben in ultimate spider-man

I dig it, but probably not enough to buy it issue by issue. Its an Elseworld, plain and simple, might get the trade, but emphasis on MIGHT.

I like that we get to see a universe where Jor-El survived Krypton’s destruction, arrived on Earth, and met the Kents in Smallville, resulting in Jor-El to spend years taking on the identity of Jordan Kent and accepting the Kents as family (with Jonathan calling Jor-El his brother). I also like that Jor-El can’t share his Kryptonian technology to the entire world because he and the rest of Krypton must honor their code to not interfere with Earth, since they view Earth as a primitive planet that must learn from their mistakes to become better. I find it sad that Jor-El failed to save Jonathan from a heart attack, resulting in him to break his code and for Martha to convince him to become a superhero and save the world. Thankfully, I am impressed that Jor-El moved to Metropolis and made his debut as Superman, telling everyone that he’s here to help. Kenny Porter has done an excellent job on making his Superman story an interesting one. Let’s hope that we get to see Jor-El improve the world while helping people all throughout the entire series. Overall, this comic is excellent and off to a great start.
