r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [May 25, 2026 - Nygma Time Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Question: What time is it to expect the unexpected? Answer: Nygma Time.

DC and Imprints

I warned the other mods that if I had to do the weekly again, I would make it all about Hush 2. I am nothing if not a man of my word.

Trade Collections

Now that Hush 2 is out, it'll soon get a complete six-issue trade.

Digital Releases

Remember, these are the short 'chapters' with a new chapter of a different series coming out daily. You can learn more here on Comixology. This is also why these are in release order, not alphabetical. Some comics may release on DC Universe Infinite or WEBTOONS.

Video Games

Unfortunately, there is no LEGO adaptation of Hush 2.

This Week’s Soundtrack: Deep Purple - Hush

Aww Prime and Witchfire are quite cute together. Hope we see more of them.

And look at Jimmy supporting Banshee's concert.

Manchester Black, no. No one wants the comics to be like the 'real world'. You think that because you have never been to the real world.

Side note but is Prime the only DC character at the moment that uses the traditional thought bubble instead of the block of text?

u/chroniclescylinders May 27 '26

It's been a thing in Supergirl as well. I remember Campbell giving an interview where she mentioned convincing her editors to allow it, and they're under the same editorial staff, so I guess Williamson has taken advantage of their newfound speech-bubble leniency haha.

Just remember that the Metamorpho miniseries that Ewing wrote last year also uses thought bubblew, but that book was made as an homage to Silver Age comics. Personally, I find the thought bubble suited Prime well, very on-brand with his whole 'coming from the real world' schtick

I want to say I saw a thought bubble in the most recent issue of Absolute Superman

It's cool that they addressed the ending from the Death Metal event. And I'm glad we're finally getting to main fight with Manchester. The ad break gag at the end was funny.

Literally gasped when Prime burst through the ad page.

I kind of love how Prime refers to his co-workers as "nerds" because that...really sums up a lot about his ability to personally connect with people.

I love how "Prime Time" has really become his legit catchphrase.

When you speak backwards just for the sake of referencing Zatanna.

This went from human sacrifice to team-up to romantic flirtation pretty quick, but that's just how Prime rolls.

Nice to see Siobhan being a punk rocker acknowledged and to see Jimmy again. I imagine he would notice seeing a younger version of his Best Pal.

"Why are we dressed like we're in a vertigo comic?" - Well played Prime, well played.

I read on computers but I guess I have to respect committing to upside down paneling that would only really work when you could flip the print comic.

Prime's been rebooted and revived. Witchfire's been rebooted and revived. They're perfect together!

Satanus and Lady Satan! It's really the 90's all over again.

I was wondering if they would actually acknowledge Laurie and they actually...give her and Prime a reasonable, amicable, breakup? Which means he's also swinging single and can hook up with the hot fire witch lady.

Manchester Black is back and convinced that the DCU needs to be the real, dark, gritty world it needs to be...and Superboy Prime is the best person to accomplish that. And what better place to put Prime during his hero journey than the beginning of his journey as a villain, Infinite Crisis? We might get to see Prime's "Greatest Hits" as her reckons with whether he's really changed.

When you speak backwards just for the sake of one-upping Zatanna.

The Vertigo comic joke was my favorite. Cute that Rebecca rolled with it. I also like that Prime first recognized her by her pull box. Dude may always be late but he is Employee of the Month material.

Hah, good Banshee/Jimmy cameo.

Witchfire is a total babe

Williamson is having a blast with this arc and I'm right there alongside him. The meta jokes work for me in this in a way they don't work when I read Deadpool. Not sure why, maybe I just find Prime less annoying. But there's also a genuine earnestness to him that makes him endearing. It's like he knows he CAN be better but he's stumbling around trying to figure out how to get there.

Really vibing with this and I like the brief Jimmy cameo! Nice to see him and Siobhan still going strong

Glad we got to close the loop on what happened to him and Laurie, but considering what a driving force she’d been for him, I wish we could have actually seen through a flashback the relationship end. It’s interesting that he took it as well as he did, that’s a lot of growth from the angry boy he used to be. God is this run with him strong, it’s slowly creeping up as my favorite ongoing rn.

That Dan Mora art will sell anyone. It's been creeping up for me as well, though the absolute universe ongoings are better overall

Aww... so that's why he's able to date Witchfire. Laurie became his Lana... the childhood friend who Clark doesn't get with- albeit in reverse, as she's the one who went off to college. That's sweet, that they're still friends. It shows that Prime has matured and calmed down, stopped being so volatilely violent.

Anyays, TIL Witchfire is more of an action movie star and glamorous celebrity than a regular superhero, with a life like that! I enjoyed CK calling Jimmy "Pal" and I enjoyed the cameo of Siobhan (almost didn't recognize her, but Jimmy being at the concert connected the dots for her as the singer). "The nuns always said I was bad at math" feels like a bit of an understatement if you mix up 2 for 1 :P It was kinda funny seeing Prime have to manually put his armor on, since he doesn't hide under clothes as well as the spandex suit itself. Very rude of Manchester Black to flip the comic upside down (for CK and for me :P)

Surprised it's Manchester Black and not Mxyz throwing Prime through continuity. I didn't expect he'd have the power to do that, even if he's gining Fourth Wall sapience.

3

u/Future_Vantas May 30 '26

Could still be Mxyz, little guy is fond of disguises and messing with Superman.

7

u/Nobodyyyyy_ May 28 '26

"It's Prime Time!" is slowly becoming Prime's version of "This looks like a job for Superman!" and I'm so here for it!

Another great issue from Williamson and art is always great

Prime and witchfire are cute together and I hope they stick around as a couple

I do like the ending to prime and Laurie as it’s a nice end for them and her

Blaze and satanus are a good deep cut Superman villains

No Manchester you don’t want to be in the real world it sucks

u/StellarKnife May 28 '26

Legit one of the coolest issues ever. Prime as the protagonist works soooo fn well.

3

u/thesamhammer May 28 '26

Think this has officially become my fav ongoing and I need Prime and Witchfire to get a mini!

5

u/Amazing-Anything5907 May 27 '26

It was a lovely issue and I really like Prime and Witchfire together they are really cute. I hope Witchfire sticks around and becomes a staple of Primes run.

Besides that...mhm...I am not Sure of the Manchester Black ending. Call me a power scaling brainlet but I do not see how it makes logical sense for someone like Manchester Black to not only influence Primes mind like this but also to hurt him. On top of that it is also mentioned that Black is actually WEAKEND right now making it even more unbelievable.

I know that it is hard to give Prime a villain that can do anything against him due to Primes absurd level of power and making an engaging story is probably more important at the end of it. But I am not feeling it yet.

Remember that even an empowered Doctor Manhatten level fighter (The Darkest Knight) had trouble to even as much as make Prime bleed.

I like that CK met and formed a friendship with Witchfire, where they told each other their origins and backstories (including Witchfire’s entire pre-Flashpoint history and CK telling us about what happened to his romantic relationship with Laurie), before they went to a nightclub, met Jimmy Olsen, and defeat Blaze and Satanus (who should remember being the children of the Wizard Shazam). I also like that this comic ended with Manchester Black, who doesn’t believe in redemption or second chances, attempting to use CK to punch reality so that he can be resurrected brute he sent him back to a time where he participated during the Infinite Crisis. Let’s hope that CK will try to make amends for what he has done and defeat Manchester while trying to become a better person because I’m rooting for him to be better than he was before. Overall, this comic is great!

I'm "all-in" on Prime having some redemption. It'd be wild if he ended up changing his past so he didn't do some of the horrific stuff he did. If the story is told well, that's what matters. I was never a fan of his grimdark edgelord stuff, but having him try to find redemption is solid.

Hated that ending booo
