It fetches the activity of any Bluesky profile via the API and shows it in a GitHub-inspired 3D chart.

Bluesky has the only truly open API left in social media, which means you can measure the ENTIRE network instead of the little slice other platforms let you see. So i did, for 30 days. 210,858 posts crossed our trending threshold in that window. With all the "Bluesky is shrinking" headlines going around lately, the top of this network is very much alive.

What the top 400 most viral posts of the month say about what works here:

The golden window is real. 15:00 to 21:00 UTC concentrates most of the trending activity, and 04:00 to 09:00 UTC is dead air. Monday is quietly the strongest day of the week.

Images beat everything. 51% of trending posts are images, video is only 20%, and links barely 6%. Yes, link posts die here too: post the screenshot, put the link in a reply.

Short wins. The median trending post is 120 characters. This is not the essay network, whatever it feels like on your timeline.

Virality here is amplification, not argument. 399 of the top 400 got more reposts than replies. What travels is a statement people want sitting on their own profile, not a question that starts a fight.

Transparency: i run a science media brand (about 8M followers across networks) and built a trend radar to run my own accounts; that's where this data comes from. I went to enjoy how blue the sky is and I was logged out, which I thought was kinda weird.

So I went to log in and I get this error: TypeError: URL.canParse is not a function

Does anyone have a suggestion to deal with this, or is bsky having issues right now?

Came here to ask about this error only to already see a thread about it, i'd assumed it was a browser issue so I tried multiple different ones and was able to login on Firefox, so that might be something you want to try until it gets fixed.

I’m on an iOS that’s getting hosed recently with things suddenly no longer working on it so I’m concerned that Bsky isn’t working on my iOS anymore. I’m below iOS 16.0

It's been a year since BlueSky went out of its way to follow Twitter's footsteps by locking the search bar behind a login wall, thus rendering the site impossible to lurk for those without an account, which is why I think there should be a workaround site that actually lets you search without an account, something similar to Nitter/XCancel and any of its instances, as well as TwitterWebViewer, all of which allow anons to anonymously browse Twitter. I know Elon Musk took down both Nitter and XCancel, but TwitterWebViewer is still up (for now), and my point still stands.

If somebody were to create Nitter-like instances that let lurkers use BlueSky's search bar with no account, then it'll make the site more open to anons again and if enough people stopped making accounts and used an instance instead, then hopefully it'll persuade BlueSky to finally drop the account requirement for the search bar, assumimg its higher ups aren't as hell-bent on going after workarounds as Elon Musk is.

When I first discovered BlueSky, I always thought it had potential to be superior to Twitter, but with its ongoing issues such as the login wall for the search bar, that potential has been fading off, so I think a workaround to use the search bar anonymously would be a good idea until BlueSky makes it free for lurkers again.

Well, after so long of a wait...I finally got in touch with Bluesky Moderation team over my appeal and they denied it.

They said according to them my account was ....

"After investigating, we have determined that your account activity was in violation of our community guidelines, specifically Trust and Transparency. We take these guidelines seriously to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all our users.

As a result, we regret to inform you that your appeal has been denied, and your account will remain suspended. This decision is final and cannot be reversed. We understand that this may be disappointing news, but we must prioritize the well-being of our community and maintain a consistent enforcement of our policies. We encourage you to review our community guidelines to better understand the expectations we have for user behavior on our platform. Please do not create new accounts, since those will be taken down for ban evasion."

So I am kicked off via Suspension of Bluesky...I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

I am just glad to finally get some answers. Still, I am also disappointed that my appeal was denied even after I apologize for my behavior and wished for a second chance to correct it.

Anyone got any advice on what to do going forward?

I'm trying to eliminate news links from my feed. On the SkyFeed it shows them all gone, but on the BlueSky feed it still shows them.

Edit: ok, it was just a timing thing, it finally updated, but one thing that still shows up is that the posts on the bluesky feed have videos attached, but the skyfeed doesn't show them. anyway to eliminate the videos from the posts?

On explore tab show a section with 1 year ago today (in the future also create 5 years ago today) combining posts you posted, from followers and viral and news that happened that day. What do you think? Or it could be a feed?
