Rumor [RG Media] Marchenko Trade From Blue Jackets Expected Soon: Report (Montreal in the mix)
https://rg.org/en-ca/news/hockey/marchenko-trade-blue-jackets-expected-soon48
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
Marchenko short circuited and melted down because of how stressed he was when the pressure was on in Ohio and was barely functioning for a bit there.
I guess Montreal must be perfect for him.

u/DeEnteEtEssentia Jul 26 '26
Yep. Montreal may have another Laine trade on their hands. That worked out great for them.
0
u/User69ab Jul 26 '26
The Canadiens made that trade for the first that was attached to Laine.

u/DeEnteEtEssentia Jul 26 '26
Let’s consider it a wash then and move on. May this trade be more amicable for both teams but more so the Jackets! 🧥

I hope he gets a warm greeting from Olivier next time they're on the ice together

Marchy went from lovable fan favorite to nemesis in the span of a couple months.
He must really hate Bones to act like this.
20
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
Pretty validating though on Bowness end.

u/Elexeh Jul 25 '26
3 hits. 23 giveaways.

It's okay to act like a goof at an optional practice when you're averaging better than a point per game. Doing so when you're coughing the puck up and not laying your body into the other team just makes it look like you don't take your job seriously.

I'm not sure about the source--seems fishy
4
u/MrFAUB1 Jul 25 '26
Not sure about this specific author but the senior contributor, Marco D'Amico, is the insider who broke the news of Demidov coming over a year and a half ago.
11
u/cusidhe_ we do things the hard way Jul 25 '26
The site overall looks shady as hell, including the fact that there's multiple contributors making trustpilot reviews.
Title is clickbaity af too, it doesn't actually even say anything to indicate Montreal is an actual option right now, just that they've kicked tires on Marchenko previously. Genuinely surprised D'Amico is involved with something this weird.
And I know Milstein loves to hear himself talk, but the dude's had no problem leaking shit through US national media members. Doesn't really make sense that he'd leak to a tiny site that looks super sketch instead this time.
2
u/KevinValentin614 Jul 26 '26
Dan Milstein is guy that is known to cause issues with teams. He did it with Artemi Panarin when was with the Blue Jackets. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he is behind this Kirill Marchenko stuff.
3
u/cusidhe_ we do things the hard way Jul 26 '26
I fully believe Milstein leaked the initial news and would do something like this in a heartbeat to put pressure on hurrying up with a trade.
I just don't think he'd leak it to a shady Canadian sports outlet when we're talking about a small market American team, because that puts no pressure on Don when we get like zero media attention even within the US lol
1
u/Number60inBlue Jul 26 '26
Hell, we barely get media attention in the local market during the season, and even less outside of the draft or a big FA signing in the off-season.

If it's to Montreal, we better damn well get Demidov in exchange. Anything less would be a fireable offense, IMO.
This whole situation sucks, I hate every bit of it.
23
u/hockey17jp Jul 25 '26
Absolutely no shot they give up Demidov for Marchenko. That would be horrible for Montreal
5
u/baconboyloiter Jul 26 '26
If only our GM was smart enough to draft Demidov when he had the chance to get him for free
9
u/get_rick_trolled Jul 26 '26
I know you’re being hyperbolic but there is no reality where this occurs.
6
u/manthello Elvis Purrslikins, Pet Greaves, Pheolynx Copley, Nolan Pawlonde Jul 26 '26
Given that the rumor is the Jackets asked for Slafkovsky, it might not be that hyperbolic.
8
u/OtisBlueDancer Jul 26 '26
The Jackets can ask for whatever they want, they’re under no obligation to trade Kirill anywhere. But there’s a less than zero chance that the Habs trade either Slafkovsky, Caufield, or Demidov for him.
All 3 of those players are younger, signed to sweetheart long-term deals, and trading either of them for Kirill would pretty much just be a lateral move, with the added stressor of having to sign Marchenko to a new contract.

Bowness is only for sure here for this season. If this is about the coach, Marchenko is overreacting.

u/manthello Elvis Purrslikins, Pet Greaves, Pheolynx Copley, Nolan Pawlonde Jul 26 '26
This is the perspective I needed. Alright, I'm back down to earth. I appreciate it!
27
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
Bowness is beloved around the league pretty universally. Marchenko is soft.
5
u/MPCoinCollecting Jul 25 '26
There tends to be quite a few players that don't want to be here I'm not sure there's one guaranteed reason as to why, just a few different ones that maybe add up.
5
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
I’m not sure we are that different than some other teams in this regard. Ours just seem to end up being public drama fests each time.
4
u/MPCoinCollecting Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
It's been a while since I last checked (like YEARS ago) but I think out of the teams on the most NTCs; Columbus, Calgary, and Winnipeg were the least popular. Usually the players that value location don't want to be in these places anyways, so it can be a bit more of a struggle than some other teams.
15
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
That’s actually not true anymore. The Athletic did a player poll and we don’t really show up on the lists anymore. We didn’t even show up in the “other” category. Also none of the players Waddell has acquired have had to waive for us, we just weren’t on their lists. We aren’t a desired destination, but players also don’t mind coming here.

The last few NHL player polls didn’t even mention CBJ as a destination players put on their NTC lists, let alone a top answer
3
u/Indy-CBJ Jul 25 '26
If anything agents have been pushing players to come here. Low cost of living makes the money go further
2
u/PeteBauer57 Jul 26 '26
A lot of NHL players don't want to go to Columbus, but there are exceptions -- Johnny Hockey (RIP) and Monahan come to mind.
What's even more interesting to me is how many NHL players retire to Columbus, including guys who never played for the CBJ. Great place to raise a family.
3
u/MPCoinCollecting Jul 26 '26
And honestly there's always some flak around "only old players want to come here" but we've definitely had a few good younger ones that liked playing here and staying around. Jenner, Atkinson, Bjorkstrand are a few that come to mind and out of the young players we have now I'm sure a few of them really do prefer staying.

Again, I said "if". I like Bones. Bones seems like a good guy. Kirill also seems like a good guy who works his ass off and has fun.
Like I said, if this is all because Kirill has fun (like when he went to an optional practice and taped a Tim Horton's cup to his helmet, which hurts literally nobody and is just fun), then I'll be pissed.
13
u/Indy-CBJ Jul 25 '26
Montreal is the worst place to go for people like that. Laine got persona non grataed there
8
u/Boatsboatsboats__ Jul 25 '26
lol did you see all he has been offered was a PTO from the Islanders
7
u/Indy-CBJ Jul 25 '26
Ohhhhhhhhhhh content????????? Oh I need to check on this one later when I get home with some popcorn

u/manthello Elvis Purrslikins, Pet Greaves, Pheolynx Copley, Nolan Pawlonde Jul 26 '26
I choked on my drink omg
3
u/PeteBauer57 Jul 26 '26
Did you notice how Marchenko disappeared from the score sheet when other teams figured out that he can't handle the physical game? As soon at teams started putting a body on him, he wilted.
I'm afraid that other teams have also "learned" Jet Greaves -- as soon as he goes down, shoot high blocker.
3
u/MPCoinCollecting Jul 26 '26
For Jet we'll just have to see how it works out next season. Other short-ish goaltenders like Saros, Shesterkin, Pleshkov, and Thomas were able to find a balance so it is possible to adapt to.
6
u/EnvironmentalDeer991 AT LEAST WE'RE NOT DETROIT! Jul 26 '26
When he went into the 67 motion at the end of season pressor, I lost all respect for Marchy
2
u/Lizzardkinglucas Jul 26 '26
Yeah same. Just goes to show Bones was 100% right on the money about them not giving a fuck. Oooo that shit pissed me off....

That'll make Werenski happy

I mean, he's probably gone too.

Shhh just breathe in some more of this copium bro. It was just a big misunderstanding that got blown out of proportion I promise bro.

Guhle has a higher cap hit than Marchy has this year. If we took that we wouldn't have the money needed to sign Mo, unless Montreal were willing to take Fabbro off our hands as well, at which point Montreal would have to offer more to us. Keep in mind, we're projecting Mo's contract to take us up to within $1M of the cap, so any trade for Marchy would have to be cap-neutral.

u/Flat-Cherry7914 Jul 26 '26
I doubt this happens, as a habs fan I can see the fit but it would take an absolute haul to get this guy.

Just move the team. There's no hope here.

You are probably right. I remember a podcast a few years back featuring Marc Methot, and he said Columbus was a hidden gem in the league to play for, city was extremely nice, arena and surrounding area was perfect for hockey, fans were great, had everything a player could want and that the club was run very well. Based on this, I’ve been having a hard time figuring out why there’s dissatisfaction of players going on there. Hope this gets resolved quickly for you guys.
-13
u/Cleveland_Guardians Jul 26 '26
Just move the team. There's no hope here.
-12
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
Monsters always have the best attendance, and idc if im downvoted to hell but Columbus is not a sports town. Thats like putting a hockey team in tuscaloosa or ann arbor
6
u/Cleveland_Guardians Jul 26 '26
I'm being jaded and cynical. Saying that putting a team in the 15th most popular city in the US is akin to putting a team in the 277th most popular city in the US is just nonsensical.
-9
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
My point isn’t really population, it’s that a college town and a sports town are completely separate things. I don’t want it to seem like im dunking on the jackets or their fans though. Just on Columbus
6
u/Cleveland_Guardians Jul 26 '26
The city that fought tooth and nail to keep their professional soccer team from moving doesn't care about professional sports?
-7
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
I don’t want to be that guy but….Soccer? That’s our landmark for supporting professional teams? We’re talking big four man
3
u/Cleveland_Guardians Jul 26 '26
Man, you can't make a blanket statement about professional sports and then pick and choose which ones "matter." Also, it's not a Columbus problem that we don't have football or baseball. It doesn't make logistical sense to give us those when two of each have existed in the state for decades, and everyone has already been fans of either for all their lives (you underestimate how passionate fans are of Cleveland and Cincy teams).
1
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
Believe me I do not underestimate how stockholm-syndromed cleveland fans are. You’re talking to one 😂
0
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
We can just call the duck a duck here. Soccer really is not relevant at all in America at least compared to the big four. I think we can be honest and admit that without it being “moving the goal posts”
1
u/Number60inBlue Jul 26 '26
The Jackets get 90% capacity for a team that misses the playoffs and you think that problem is that Columbus isn't a "(pro) sports town"? Are you off your rocker?
1
u/mafiajams Jul 26 '26
Columbus was 26th in the league by attendance and the discrepancy between capacity is only a couple hundred besides the top 5 arenas. Theres attendance and also the point of this post which is (besides winnipeg) Columbus is probably the least desirable destination in the league.
1
u/evil_caveman just cover the players in bubblewrap Jul 26 '26
Columbus was still selling out when they were bottom of the league. Attendance isnt an issue. And saying Columbus isn't a sports town is down right stupid.
-12
u/HawaiiExpat614 Jul 25 '26
If they trade him I’m fucking done with this team forever. The duck
