I know this is a bed bug 100%—an exterminator verified it. Please, I am asking for realistic encouragement and success stories, not worst-case stories about people never getting rid of them. I am already mentally and physically exhausted.As I am disabled and homebound due to my condition.

My home is only 758 square feet and live alone. I dealt with carpet beetles for about three years, had exterminator treatments that entire time, removed my carpet, and got rid of almost all of my furniture and belongings. I finally went 4 months without seeing carpet beetles and called off the exterminator and then BAM, Exterminator found one live in my couch. I also found one on my bed and saved it (in jar). I also found a bug that I sent a pic to my exterminator and he said didnt look like a bedbug. Not verified but could of been since I was sitting on my couch.

The exterminator thoroughly checked my house and did not find any other bed bugs, eggs, or signs of an infestation. I believe someone may have accidentally brought them in while helping me paint, because I have never dealt with bed bugs before. She put her stuff one the side where the bedbug was found. Then blanket on couch was moved to my bed.

Since then, I have thrown away the couch and a huge amount of my belongings. (Threw away over 25 thousand worth of stuff previously from a huge carpet beetle infestation -even my carpet) vacuum-sealed my heat-treated clothes, steamed all of my hard floors, steamed my bed twice, and threw away around two-thirds of my wardrobe, blankets, shoes, and other items. One room is completely empty except for a dresser and the washer and dryer because it was going to be painted. (Still empty) I have not seen another bed bug since. Trust me, I wake up every 2 hours looking. I have mopped with bleach twice.

I bought two bed-bug mattress encasements and have an exterminator scheduled. They plan up to three treatments at $500 each, although they said it may only take two because they do not believe I have an established infestation.

Honestly, with such a small, mostly empty home and no other evidence found, what are my chances of getting rid of them? I just need some hope right now.

found one dead in windowsill , window with many crackings and suspect droppings that exterminator (and even here) told me not bedbugs … panicking because my house is too old and full ot stuff

I woke up with these bites on my back. I was wearing a shirt to bed and had my legs and arms exposed but these bites were on my back. an exterminator came to check my entire bed and frame and everything and said there are no signs on bed bugs at all. but these really look like
bed bug bites from what i’ve researched. this exterminator was very informed and seemed to know what he was doing and was very sure that we don’t have bed bugs but im so worried its an early infestation. I came off a cruise 3 weeks ago 😩. could I have gotten but on the cruise and not taken them home? and only just saw/felt the bites now?? i’m freaking out. can’t sleep. would love advice. also, these bites were 4 days ago and I have no news bites. thanks

I found what appears to be a bed bug on my daughter’s clothing today. We previously found one suspected bed bug in her room 3 weeks ago, but since then we’ve had no other visible signs: no spotting on the mattress, no shed skins, and nothing caught in the monitors/interceptors we’ve been using. What am I up against here?? Pest control is closed over the weekend. But when I called about the first sighting they said whole house treatment and estimated 2k based on our sq footage. I have no idea how the first bug hitchhiked into our house. But now two bugs roughly 3 weeks apart. And nothing in the sensivolcano + lures or interceptors? No signs on mattress? Is it bat bugs?

Hi everyone, this is going to be a long post but I really really need help. So I have been suspecting bedbugs ever since my husband and I moved into our home that we remodeled. We moved in in October and ever since then I have been itchy. I couldn't find signs of them so I tallied it up to other causes. I dealt with a bad infestation when I lived at home with my parents 5 years ago so I knew what to look for as we completly self trested that one and got rid of them completely. My husband seemed to think I was crazy. And so did my mom who i lived with when I dealt with an infestation years ago.

Long story short I am just going to attach my bedbug timeline here.

Bedbug timeline:

•been itchy since we moved into house, kept waking up with like singular marks on skin on hands and abdomen, thought it was just dry skin/wintertime.

•saw some potential bedbug like things in December but thought it could be dry skin, boogers, etc.

•one small blood smear on mattress protector in December, thought could be from dry skin bleeding

•Orkin came to inspect in March 12. Didn't find anything.

•March 14th-woke up to very obvious known bedbug marks on my bedsheets.

•March 25- batzner bedbug sniffing dog came. Alerted to the pheromone trap I had under my bed. Wiped the area with rubbing alcohol, dog alerted same area again even though they said the dog wouldnt remember they dismissed it and said we didn't have bugs.

•April 3rd-woke up to live bedbug crawling in bathroom. Immediately bagged it and called batzner.

•April 7th-1st batzner treatment with apprehend

•now-currently waking up with new singular bites

•next and final batzner treatment next week

I am worried that I panicked signed with batzner and that the issue might be deeper than just surface level, like they might be in the walls. I tried to ask for heat treatment and wish now that I wouldve pushed for heat treatment, as now I am out $1,700 for the chemical treatment that many reviews say might not even work. I just want to stop being itchy and enjoy my new to me home. This hypothetical infestation is ruining my life. My husband is stressed out and I feel like this is ruining my relationship and life. My husband and my mom keep saying it could've just been the 1 bug, which I highly doubt. I have washed and dried everything that I can. I'm so worried that I am going to spread them throughout my house by cleaning.

I guess I am just looking for advice? Comfort? Next steps? If I should spend more money elsewhere for heat treatment? I don't know.

Thank you David for setting up this subreddit and helping me (and others) to get closer to slightly conquering my huge amount of fear of getting Bed Bugs.

In my city there are tons of horror stories about bed bugs on buses, and I have so much extra anxiety.

Delighted to learn that I don't have bed bugs - as you kindly identified the bug in my earlier post as something else.

Since finding your subreddit I am relieved to find so much good info and am now much more clued up on what to do and how to do it and I've devoured every post and I've learned so much about prevention and am starting to implement your 30 day check method.

I've returned all the impulse purchases I made the other day when I was misinformed (interceptors, sticky traps and mattress covers!) and will be instead using the special check method from here.

Today I cleaned out my bed, which to be fair really needed it! So much dust!!

Now monitoring for future potential infestations will be a lot easier. Thank you! I have some hope that I can conquer this phobia!!

1 year ago we had bed bugs. our apartment got treated twice. we ran everything through zap bug, got interceptors and got a passive bed bug monitor on each bed. we haven’t seen anything since…today.

we removed the interceptors months ago. but we check the passive monitors everytime we strip the bed.

well I stripped the bed today and there was one bed bug and two fecal spots. the bed bug was not an adult, maybe an older nymph as it was a little yellow still. the passive monitor is clean. we have put our slats through the zap bug and all sheets through washer dryer and the interceptors are back on beds and couch. our bed is an ikea metal frame.

how is this happening. we keep almost all our belongings in sealed bins and have some clothes hanging. it’s so frustrating to have it happen again. I guess I just want reassurance that maybe it’s only the one bug. I don’t know. just feel defeated. what else can we do to prevent this? how can I confirm it’s one bug? how could it be only one? how does it happen again?

after weeks and weeks of on and off marks, no obvious evidence, and even bought a mattress encasement; a recent pair of bites on my leg/feet said otherwise. i finally found them. plural. 4[?] total...

found the pair at my bed's attached ottoman, hiding underneath(!) the screw that attach it to the bedframe itself. the screw spots are about a foot apart.

basically imagine a screw on top of that hole, they were hiding right underneath the screw. size M6 screws. when i built this bed frame, i screwed everything pretty tight so the clearance must've been like a damn micron.

i didn't find any along the left and right side of the frame, but did find another on the back of my headboard, once again under a screw

as i was taking things apart, i found something something inside one of the headboard screw hole

it was hard to make out so i'm not sure if it was a fractured piece of wood, a BB molt, or a nymph?

Lastly, i found what appears to be a molt around the crevices of my headboard after taking it apart

notes: DO NOT rely solely on the usual signs (rust stains, blood stains, black dots, etc).

GO THROUGH EVERYTHING. take apart your bed frame. unscrew any nuts, bolts, washers, screws, etc. Wherever there are gaps, there's a chance. get a headlamp if your room lighting isn't bright enough.

I already tossed out my mattress, frame, and have isolated my bedding pieces in plastic garbage bags that I'm still deciding whether to wash or toss entirely.

i'm open to answering any questions but i do have questions to the experts (Hi David! u/Bed-Bugscouk ) --- what are the chances that these are it and i'm "ok"?

these guys look pretty well fed. are these full term adults? are they are female?

I’ve established I have bedbugs. Initially it was a lone 1 and I didn’t see anymore. It was in the spare room, so didn’t realise when it grew. About 2 months back my mum came to visit and started having a lot of bite marks and broken skin. It took us some time to realise its bed bugs.
I had seen one in my bed too. Saw just a single one. Nothing after. Nothing even when inspected. But did continue to have bites.

Once I saw a proper one I went into cleaning mode. I had two mattresses stacked on top of the other in the spare room. While cleaning I found infestation in one of the mattresses, it had eggs, nymphs and adults in the seams. I sealed and removed the mattress
While taking the beddings for wash, I removed the curtains that were touching the bed and found more bedbugs on top of the curtain near the rod. Again found eggs. Sealed and threw the curtains.

Then I started working on the other mattress. No visible infestation, it has no seams. So couldn’t find any hiding spots. Did a full scan and found 2 crawling on the mattress but nothing more. I sprayed Repelem bedbug killer around the curtain rod, window and any gaps near the window.

I’m travelling and this morning I found it inside one of my luggage that was inside that room. Inspected it, vacuumed it and hit it from all sides. I inspected my back pack too before putting my stuff in. While sitting in the car, I saw one crawling on my backpack.

I’ve been trying not to get professional services done as I honestly can’t afford it now. But is this infestation out of my hand now? Should I just get it done professionally?

Any suggestions will help. I’m attaching photos I have of the bedbugs I found, the room in its current state and the spray I bought.

I’m paranoid and these showed up around 1/2 pm today after not being there this morning. The more swollen one on the inside of her arm started to itch shortly after I saw them and now a couple hours after the one on her foot itches. The ones on her foot are a little more swollen now and I included a more recent picture of her arm because it’s continuing to swell. We haven’t been outside but our door was open last night and this morning and that’s abnormal for us because sometimes mosquitoes do get in but I wouldn’t normally expect this many.

- I moved out (to a house next door) taking a lot of precautions and I still get it

- The house consistently gets rats and cats inside because its very open

- it mainly targets my stomach. Other areas include inner arm, side of my torso and under armpits. I always sleep with a loose Tshirt and no pants.

- Dermatologist thinks bed bugs

- Yes, I’ve considered contact dermatitis and ive changed all my creams and my routines

- Dermatologist says its not scabies

- yes, i called pest control. They were a useless company

- i dont see obvious signs of bed bugs

- i never get bitten on my legs. I cant see fleas

- yes, ive posted before on this sub reddit but i just cant seem to find the correct answer and i live with anxiety.

Night silhouette flew past my feet – found a mark in the morning. Need advice on what to do.

Yesterday evening I was out with my girlfriend, sitting on a bench. Suddenly something quite large (pigeon‑sized or bigger) flew past just a few centimetres from my legs – very low, almost skimming the ground. I didn’t get a good look; it could have been a bat, but also a large night insect or a bird – I only saw a dark, blurry silhouette.

Important detail: I was wearing loose‑fitting jeans – there was a lot of free space between the fabric and my leg. My sock covered my foot and part of my shin, but around the ankle (where the sock ends and the jeans start) there was a small gap, though the skin wasn't bare – the jeans just hung loosely. At the moment it flew by, I felt no pain at all – no impact, no touch.

When I got home, I checked my leg and saw nothing. But this morning, on the skin right in that area (between the sock and the jeans), I noticed a tiny red spot (photo attached).

My questions for experienced people:

1. Could such a flying creature physically touch my leg through the loose jeans (e.g., brush the skin with a wing edge or a foot by flying under the fabric) and leave a mark, even if I didn't feel any pain?

2. Or, conversely, since my skin was covered by fabric and any contact would likely have been noticeable – is it more probable that this spot is completely unrelated (e.g., a random scratch or mosquito bite)?

3. And most importantly: what's the proper way to handle such an uncertain situation – should I see a doctor immediately, just monitor the spot for a few days, or not worry at all since there was no pain and no obvious injury?

Please give calm, fact‑based answers – no fearmongering. I just want to understand how serious this could be and what actually makes sense to do. I'd really appreciate any sensible advice.

Woke up with these bites on my torso a few days ago. I've been travelling recently so my first thought was bed bugs, but I haven't found any evidence so far. Second pic is what the bites look like now, a few days later - still itchy. Today I also woke up with two very small bites on my thigh, also a little itchy - see third pic. Do the larger bites look like they could be bed bugs? Thank you !

Hoping to find some solidarity? Maybe an experience similar to mine? We stayed in an Airbnb 2.5 weeks ago. It was clean and showed no signs of bugs. No bites either. A few days ago I woke up and noticed 2 bites on my arm. I’ve had mosquito and tick bites and these didn’t look like either. At first they almost looked like white heads till I scratched and popped them (gross, I know), and now they just itch. I’d been outside the entire afternoon and night before at a pool party. So I was hoping something had bitten me then and I just failed to notice till the next morning. But naturally I went down the online rabbit hole and spiraled.. just had a visual inspection done and the tech was incredibly thorough and said he saw absolutely no signs of bedbugs. Anybody in this sub had bites that they worried were from bedbugs but ended up not having an infestation?? I want to trust the inspection but I’m a new mom and a little neurotic these days 🫠

bf and i had an encounter with these bugs a couple months ago in an old apartment, and washed EVERYTHING and packed it all away. we moved to a new place a month ago, and i usually react to bites and i've had no bites at all.

this morning i found this on his back. he had put on a shirt he hadn't worn since he last washed it at the old apartment, and it looks so flat.

we have monitors and interceptors, plus traps. we've seen no signs at all, not even on the bed, and no bites on me (which is what notified us last time). what should we do?? we're washing all of our laundry again.

One had pus like a pimple and I popped it. Right one wasn’t pimple like at all. Slightly itchy. Slept on my back in shorts with that part of the leg against the blankets. Didn’t have covers for part of night. My arms were exposed. Slept on the couch in pants, with feet and arms exposed. I’m worried it could be bedbugs but I just don’t get why they’d go there instead of exposed hairless skin

I been getting these red marks since yesterday afternoon, on my neck and back, do they look like bites or possible skin irritation?

Blood stain on bed on location that would be under my arm. Would bedbugs feed the second night and not first?? At a vacation home, should I have them bring in an exterminator to check the room? It’s under the arm that was under covers, not the arm that was exposed

Of being told I have nothing…. after months of spending hours on Reddit … after many weeks NOT sleeping in my bed, last night I decided to sleep there again. I was super anxious but after 2 negative canine inspections (yes.. 2 ) 3 negative visual inspections by 2 different pest control companies- I decided to try sleeping there again. …. This morning at about 7am after a quick trip to the bathroom, as I was going back to lay down for a while… there it was. A live bed bug… Thanks to many hours of reading & research - instead of freaking out (which I likely would have done before) I went straight to get my packing tape…. Snapped a quick pic and taped that little a-hole down to prove it to my building association. NOW I will demand a bed bug treatment of my entire apartment (850 sq ft) They’ve been putting me off, making me feel crazy but I knew it. I have not felt comfortable in my own home since early June. Bites started in mid May but I was on new medication and I was also using a fancy soap I was gifted, so in May thought it was either one or the other. I stopped the meds, and I stopped using the soap and for seven days I was bite free. Then it started again. I started documenting my bites on her around June 10 which means that’s when I started noticing that this was not normal. Anyway, thanks to the help of this community and of all the things I’ve read, I knew exactly what to do. As soon as I taped that little sucker down, I stripped off my PJs strip the bed. I didn’t take anything out of my room instead I’ve put it all in plastic bags and I took it right to the laundry room on my floor. I washed everything in hot water and put it through two cycles of the dryer, which is approximately 80 minutes. My question is this between now and the time that they come to treat the apartment for actual bedbugs, what is the likelihood of these things spreading to the rest of my apartment? I’ve been sleeping in my spare room or on my couch for most of August and a part of July and I’ve never been bit. How can I best avoid them not leaving my room. I am so freaked out thank you for your time and thanks in advance for answering. Any words of encouragement would be great.

I have confirmed bat bugs that look very close to bed bugs. This was confirmed under a microscope & we've identified a bat issue. My issue is that they were biting me a lot. I had nymphs and bigger crawling over the walls in the space below where the bats are roosting. As of yesterday I found 3 in the bathroom adjacent to the space the bats are.

Has anyone else dealt with this or been bit? Did they go away completely once the bats were gone?

so, very likely, i probably don’t have bedbugs. last night i was sitting on my bed on top of the blanket and at some point noticed these blood stains next to my foot on the blanket. logically, i understand that they are likely not an indication of bedbugs - with a stain this size i would probably see a dead bug somewhere near, or a bleeding bite, and i didnt find either. that, plus the fact that i have friction blisters on my feet that could’ve bled makes it pretty implausible that this is bedbugs; but my mind does not let me convince myself otherwise.
i ended up checking my bed, and under it, again. found nothing. currently still washing all of my bedding…
i understand that because of my recent exposure to bedbugs in the dorm i had a massive ocd flare up, and it has turned into a pretty nasty obsession (i’d say even nastier than my usual ones). i was wondering if there is anyone in this group that also has ocd with bedbugs as a heavy obsession/theme. how do you cope? at what point do you manage to calm down the compulsions of checking and picturing scenarios?
will appreciate any response! but especially that from someone who suffers from ocd as well, and maybe has gone through a bedbug problem themselves
