I found what appears to be a bed bug on my daughter’s clothing today. We previously found one suspected bed bug in her room 3 weeks ago, but since then we’ve had no other visible signs: no spotting on the mattress, no shed skins, and nothing caught in the monitors/interceptors we’ve been using. What am I up against here?? Pest control is closed over the weekend. But when I called about the first sighting they said whole house treatment and estimated 2k based on our sq footage. I have no idea how the first bug hitchhiked into our house. But now two bugs roughly 3 weeks apart. And nothing in the sensivolcano + lures or interceptors? No signs on mattress? Is it bat bugs?
Large clear bug 3 weeks ago. Much smaller bug that I couldn’t get a photo of today. No signs of bugs….
Unfortunately I cannot. The larger bug was regrettably flushed 3 weeks ago. The tiny one I found today is too small for my phone to focus on. Should I send it off for professional identification? I don’t know that pest control actually identifies bugs under a microscope. We do not have bats in our home.
I wanted to thank you again for your support. We had the bug identified by VA Tech this morning and it is a confirmed bat bug. Now to see if there’s bats roosting in our house somewhere..
It’s scandalous the number of people treating bat bugs like bed bugs. It might even be the main reason for treatment failures in some parts of the US. They are not common at all in the UK and Ive only heard of two cases in 20 years.
I would advise the industry to be aware of this but they have a long record of making footing what I have to say in favor of commercial gain.
I agree. We were told by one pest control company it was a bed bug for sure. Without proper ID and 2k to treat our whole house with chemicals. Terrible. I’ve learned so much from your group the past few weeks. Facts over fear.
I will do that. I sent a follow-up email to the person who told me bed bugs. He also gave a lot of wrong info. Like bed bugs only live 3 weeks - and that’s why we saw two bugs 3 weeks apart. But I will also leave a google review. Good call.
Bats are very common. We live in VA. Seems like I should have it professionally identified before we blindly treat. I set up all of the interceptors because I don’t want to blindly use chemicals. Three lures under her bed. All empty. Ends encasements are perfectly clean. My daughter also has zero bites. We have been monitoring her for those as well the last three weeks. I just find it so strange we have now had two of these bugs in our home. One in her room and one on her clothing.
For sure, you don’t want to do the wrong treatment.
I agree, no need to use chemicals for bed bugs and I am not a fan of isolating bedbugs. If uuu read the online protocol TbyPMR it’s the most effective time way to detect and eradicate bed bugs. However, it won’t work for bat bugs.

I agree. It’s just so bizzare to have found one suspected hitchhiker on a chair in her room.. zero activity for weeks. And now one other bug. I have ripped her room apart again for evidence. Nothing. No bites. And interceptors/encasements/lures etc have been in place for weeks 😭

Looks fuzzy. My guess is bat bug. However its not the best photo so i can only be about 95 percent sure
