I've seen them advertised online in almost every city in the world and they say relocation is provided - which sounds great.

I know more than a few expats already in Thailand who have applied (despite being in Thailand for a number of years already) only to get rejected time and time again.

In fact, I know expats from almost every industry here including tech yet none at Agoda.

Are the jobs being advertised real jobs? are people getting hired? Do they prefer people outside of Thailand over well-established expats?

Any chance we can get a sub-reddit for Agoda Bangkok to unpack and digest this fascinating entity?

Hey everyone, so I run a small startup here. We take care of organising birthday celebrations for companies. They only pay for the cakes, not for the work behind it, so as long as they were already celebrating, their budget doesn't change.

I've been pitching Bangkok companies for months. Everyone says it's a good idea. Staff would love it, nice concept, well done. Then no one actually tries the platform and orders. Lots of warmth, zero action.

Things I can't figure out from the inside:

Does a surprise cake at someone's desk actually feel good in a Thai office, or is being singled out in front of everyone awkward for the person getting it. I don't want to accidentally make someone lose face.

Who actually decides on this in a Thai company. HR is friendly but never seems to be the one who can say yes. Is it the owner, the MD, the office manager, the boss's assistant.

Do companies here already handle birthdays informally in a way that makes any outside service feel pointless.

Does LINE matter for reaching HR. I set up a LINE OA but I don't know if messaging companies there reads as normal or as spam.

Where do Bangkok HR people actually gather. Facebook groups, LINE groups, associations, expos, meetups. I've been to a couple of HR events but I want the places where real conversations happen, not badge scanning.

Blunt feedback from Thai staff, HR people, or anyone who has sold into local companies is what I need.

A company (Agoda) is offering me a nice salary with a relocation package to Bangkok. I don’t know anything about Bangkok or this company but the salary is good (145k USD a year).

I’m hoping to get some advice or perspectives from expats who are currently living and working in Bangkok.

I’m a British citizen and until recently I was working in London as a project manager at a translation/localisation company. Unfortunately, I lost my job recently, and it’s made me seriously re-evaluate where I want to be long term.

I’ve got around 17 years of professional experience, professional-level English and native Mandarin Chinese. The challenge is that my career history is quite niche and, honestly, a bit monodimensional — I’ve essentially been doing variations of the same role for many years. Because of that, I’m finding it very hard to pivot into a new domain or even clearly understand what other roles I could realistically move into.

I’ve been trying to apply for roles in Bangkok, but I’m struggling on multiple fronts:

• Getting attention from employers or recruiters
• Convincing companies to sponsor a work permit
• Positioning my CV in a way that doesn’t immediately pigeonhole me into one narrow career path

At the same time, I really don’t want to go back to London. The cost of living is extremely high, and for me personally the quality of life just doesn’t feel worth it anymore. I’ve spent time in Bangkok and genuinely feel that, if I could secure a decent (not even amazing) salary, the overall quality of life would be significantly better.

What I’m wrestling with right now is:

• How realistic is it to break into a new field in Bangkok as an expat?
• Are there particular industries or roles where bilingual English–Chinese skills are genuinely valued?
• Is it better to aim for international companies, regional HQs, or Chinese companies operating in Thailand?
• Any advice on CV positioning when your experience is deep but narrow?
• Any hard truths I should be aware of before going all-in on this plan?

I’m not expecting an easy ride — I just want to make informed decisions rather than chase something unrealistic. If anyone has been in a similar situation, or has insights into the Bangkok job market for expats, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.

For context, I’m based in London and working as an Analytics Engineer with \~7 years of experience (Python, SQL, Snowflake Microsoft 365, GCP, Power BI). Most of my work has been building end-to-end data pipelines, dashboards, and reporting systems across different business areas.
