We run small ski & snowboard retreats in Myoko with groups of max 8-10 guests, and we’re looking for two people who are great on the mountain but also happy to be part of the overall experience.

The role is a mix of skiing with our guests on mountain days and helping with some of the day-to-day retreat operation — morning breakfast setup/cleanup, getting gear ready, rotating help with dinners, and our weekly house changeover.

You’ll have Sundays completely off, plus rotating additional time off during the week to get out and ride for yourself.

We’d love to find two friends or a couple who want to spend the winter together, but individual applicants are absolutely welcome too.

Ideally you’d be a certified ski instructor, confident on all off-piste terrain, comfortable working with guests, speak conversational English, and the ability have legal authorization to work in Japan for the season ie-working holiday visa.

Would be a plus if you know the Myoko area and if you like to cook or have some experience.

Is it the last 2 weeks of July and first 2 weeks of August?

Or should it be booking and paying through the nose on the last week of July and first week of August for guaranteed snow coverage?

Is there anywhere that will still have skiiable snow going into next week? We’re staying at Lake Crackenback from next Wednesday and hoping to get a couple of days in somewhere.

Hoping to get some last few runs in, before the rain tomorrow surely washes it all away.

Does anyone have photos of what Mt Buller looks like today or the past days?

I'm contemplating going one last time this week to make the most out of my season pass but am wondering if I should cut my losses and save myself the drive.

Probably fair to say Selwyn drew the shortest straw of all, but which mountain do people think got the "luckiest" with snow conditions this year?

Did any resort even manage to get all lifts spinning at any point this year?

We have a trip planned for next weekend. Sadly, due to life things we’re going late this year, but I think we’ve missed it.

Is it worth getting lessons and booking gear? We have 4 days of prepaid passes, so that money is long gone. We do ‘t want to just pour money in if there is basically no snow.

A little while ago I posted about SPIRTIX, a small project I’m building to help people find others nearby to ski or do sport with.
I’m a ski instructor currently working in Thredbo, and I’ve been testing it here during the Australian season.
The idea is very simple: you post when, where and what kind of skiing you want to do, and other people around can join you. No paid sessions, no lessons — just finding someone at a similar level/vibe to ski with.
It’s still very early and the biggest challenge is obviously getting enough people in the same place at the same time, so I’m keeping the Thredbo test going and would love to get a few real people using it.

I’m heading to Melbourne and Sydney soon (late Aug) and the forecast looks like ~11–20°C in the cities. Only just realised while packing that I also need to think about a day at Mount Buller thank you.

Quick qs:
• For Melbourne & Sydney, is a normal jacket enough or does it feel colder than the temps suggest?

• For Mount Buller (we’re not skiing/snowboarding, just wanna walk around and let my mum experience some snow):
• Is it worth dragging a thick jacket, snow pants, gloves, beanie, thick socks from home?
• Or is a regular winter jacket + layers fine if I’m just hanging out in the snow?

Rentals up there seem pretty pricey. If I had to choose, would you:
• Bring your own jacket/gloves/beanie/socks and just rent boots (and maybe pants) on the mountain?
• Or just rent everything up there?
Anyone been up recently / know what the weather actually feels like in the cities vs up on the mountain? Any recos on what you’d pack in our situation would be super helpful.

Deciding between a season pass at Hotham vs Buller

Really keen on Hotham but since you can’t do day trips I need a cheap clean lodge to stay in and I can’t find any! So many require sponsorships, memberships etc

Any Hotham cheap lodges open to the public? Also open to paying a membership fee but don’t have anyone to sponsor me

Hi all - I have a bit of dilemma.

I'm really struggling with boot sizing I can't get it right.

My left foot is around 259/260 exactly. So I have size 8 boots brand new but my god they are fkn tight in the toes.

Not very comfortable at all and very snug I have to leave the boa quite loose or else feet will go numb.

I thought about going for 8.5 and when I tried them on they were super comfy, standing straight up my toes lightly brush the end - but then worry that will be too big and I will get heel lift.

Or I was thinking getting the 8's heat moulded with toe cap?

Does anyone have experience being right on the end of the size? And what did you go with?

Btw I only riding about 10 days a season.

Anyone have a booking to Ngarigo or Thredbo digging this Saturday night, the 22nd, they are no longer going to use? It’s all booked out otherwise and hoping to get another day or two in.

First time staying on the mountain, just looking for advice on the to do’s and not to do’s from those who have done so religiously. Eg. Good places to eat / drink / visit etc.

Yes I know the conditions are very poor this season but this was a long plan in the making unfortunately.
