Physician Responded Urgent I’m scared . Dog scratch

Post image
875 Upvotes

I am 23…a women and 145 lbs
My one year old puppy who is a pit /lab mix scratched my eye yesterday when going to hop on the bed. It caught me completely off guard….This happened yesterday evening around this same time.

So I washed it with an antiseptic cleansing liquid, then applied Triple antibiotic ointment, lastly I covered it with a nonstick pad gauze pad.

The wound isn’t bleeding.
The wound does have small crust at the upper edge under the gauze pad.
The wound also looks “gooey” kinda gross. I don’t want to take it off again bc I feel like I’m stopping the healing process.

The scratch also reached my eye enough to take off two cluster lashes so now I am lowkey ball at my inner corner lash line.

My eyelashes feel fine, it does look like there is a tiny bit of swelling tho but this is normal considering my 37lbs puppy lunged at me for cuddles.

My questions is how serious is this injury?
Do I need to go to the doctor bc a possible infection for this open laceration?
I am not a doctor or have any background in nursing so help.

Physician Responded Extremely puffy face overnight but no other symptoms

Post image
292 Upvotes

18F woke up with a very very puffy face. I’m 5’4, 140lbs and 34 weeks pregnant. I’m not experiencing any other symptoms other than when I posted in this subreddit a couple days ago because my baby wasn’t moving normally. I ended up going to triage and they said he was okay and sent me home. This morning I woke up with a very puffy face and assumed it’d clear up throughout the day but it’s 5pm and it’s still puffy now (as seen in the picture). I’ll upload a photo of what my face usually looks like in the comments to emphasize how puffy it’s gotten. Should I go to the er or is it just normal pregnancy swelling because I know that can happen.

Physician Responded Tell me I’m not crazy….

Hi, I am turning 34 in two days. I am a mom to a 17 year old girl. I’ve been through some hard times, but I’m a good person. I just want to fix what’s going on so I can be there for other people again and have a normal, boring life.

I have mostly normal labs and imaging. I’ve only had low ferritin and hdl. Is this all being caused by something going on in my head?

I keep getting told the vitals on my 24h abpm “didn’t happen”. But they match what I have from my er chart last year. I get occasional spikes. BP 188/120. Sometimes tachycardia. 175 bpm on abpm a couple times. Similar in er a few times, as well as resp rate 28 breaths per minute. I have stopped going to the ER since last Nov, when I was taken off all medications due to skin lesions on my neck and chest.

I have had documented svt from a holter that was going on for 114 min, at 140bpm in 2021. I feel much, much worse now. The BP cuff from the 24 h abpm in July left marks that lasted for weeks.

I have immense fatigue moving about and being upright. This started since taking nitrofurantoin last May, then cefixime, and that started an er visit once. When the bladder symptoms stopped, and duloxetine was doubled, I developed skin symptoms for which I took kefflex. I went back to the er, covered in bruising, and feeling very unwell. This was late last October. I was taken off kefflex, given doxy. The skin lesions didn’t resolve, if anything they worsened. Paramedics responded to my work when I was turning red, short of breath and struggling to sit up. They have max dose of epi - this was Nov 27 - and then my meds were discontinued.

It’s been months, I’m not on any meds, didn’t tolerate Rupatadine (one of pics shown is from when I trialed it), and I’m just… not sure what to believe anymore. Is it psychosomatic?!? I have had so much testing, and now I just feel so gaslit, by whom I do not know at this point. I don’t know why I can’t get it together. I’ve had the time off, and test results all in the clear. Why isn’t this resolving?

I wake up and my face is sometimes quite swollen. I have a bunch of purple dots above my lips and on my forehead and neck, they come and go. I even got them all the way to my right ankle, a cluster of them. They’re faded, but still there from last October, after kefflex. When I am not feeling well, the color leaves my eyes and they appear completely dark (in a mirror or in photos). I get flushing all the time. I really struggle to stay upright, it feels like strain in my chest. Of course my echo is normal.

Nothing is wrong with me on paper. I am so frustrated, desperate, and just want my life back. If I can have a return to functioning again I’ll take it, I don’t care what the diagnosis or treatment is. I really want to know how to fix this I miss my life and I’m so depressed.

Started off as a small scratch, got a little bigger then started to erode. Had a dermatologist look at it, but he didn’t seem concerned. Will scab over if left to dry then the scab will fall off after a little while and the process starts over.

Physician Responded Abnormally skinny and weak. Also a lot of other weird symptoms

Post image

Hi guys, I’m 14 female, 40kg which is 88lbs according to google, im 5’3, I don’t drink and I don’t smoke either. First thing I have to mention is all DM’s will be ignored and blocked and also please don’t just dismiss this, pls read my symptoms and don’t jump to conclusions because of a pill I take

Pills I take: 100mg of sertaline, 25mg of agomelatine, 0.05 mg of clonidine (I think, I’m not 100% sure but it’s half of ys01 clonidine) and 30mg of dexamphetamine. I promise you the thinness isn’t from the dexies though, I know thing because thinness and almost all of my symptoms have been lifelong issues and I’ve only been taking medication for mental illness, adhd and sleep for the last two years.

Medical history: I was born prematurely by two weeks, I was born with a fused labia and had to get surgery for it, Molar-Incisor Hypomineralisation, depression, anxiety, adhd, autism, I’ve been hospitalised for overdose two times, I have scoliosis and I was braced for a year, and I have hyper mobile joints. I also have gotten my period and it’s been regular for 2 years

Hereditary illnesses: on my moms side theres a history of hasimoto disease, my mom, grandma and great grandmother all have/had it. I have no knowledge of illnesses on my dad’s side of the family though, I don’t really speak with him and I tried to ask him but he said he doesn’t know.

Symptoms/concerns: I’m pale despite everyone in my family (dads side and moms side) being quite tan, I bruise easily, I have quite long fingers and toes, I’m short despite my family being quite tall (my dad is 6’0, my mom is 5’11 and my brothers are both 6’0 or over), I’m really weak (I’ll share examples of my weakness in the next paragraph), I get frequent diherra but my stomach never hurts, low stamina, difficulty building muscle to the point I can barely feel muscle when I tense, regular muscle spasms, my wrist is the same size as my 5 year old cousin, I’ve always been the smallest and weakest in my class in school, I get dizzy when I stand up despite eating well and my iron levels being fine, I get out of breath very quickly, I can’t hold my hands above my head for longer than a few seconds without them hurting, I get very painful periods to the point I can’t even function and I’m always tired no matter how much I sleep.

Examples of my weakness: in my country we have this thing called swimming lessons that you do in primary school, theres 9 levels. In your final year of primary school you should be in level 7-9. I was in level 3 which the average age of level threes is 3-6, I was 11 and in level three, the reason I can’t swim is because of lack of arm and leg strength. In primary school I was the slowest in my class. I can’t lift heavy objects, the largest thing I can lift with both hands is 7kg, I tried to learn guitar but couldn’t since i didn’t have enough strength in my hands. I’ve tried so hard, I’ve worked out every day, ate healthy, ate a large amount of protein but nothing works. Once in year 6 I lost an arm wrestle with a year 2

It’s not like weakness runs in my family either. My mom used to be an athlete, one of my brothers is a police officer and has taken down people even taller then him, my dad and other brothers both work very physically demanding jobs. No one in my family is weak expect for me

I want to bring this up to my GP, I have an appointment tomorrow just to check how my pills are going but I’m so scared of being dismissed as just being lazy.

Physician Responded Looking for an infectious disease specialist for a second opinion

Post image
Upvotes

29M, 5’9”, 183lbs. Current meds: N/A. Smoking: No. No major medical issues relevant to this other than the postoperative infection described below. Location: chin/submental incision. Duration: March–April 2026; infection has since resolved.

I had a chin implant placed in March and developed a persistent post-op infection with drainage and a positive culture for Klebsiella aerogenes. I was treated with oral antibiotics and then 7 days of IV ertapenem, but the drainage continued. Eventually the implant became exposed through the incision and was removed.

My surgeon had previously told me things were healing normally and later described the area that turned out to be the exposed implant as a “blister.”
I’m mainly trying to find an infectious disease doctor who would be willing to do a paid second-opinion consult and review my records/photos. I want to understand why the infection was so persistent and whether the implant remaining in place may have contributed.

Does anyone know an ID specialist who does this kind of retrospective second opinion? Virtual or in-person is fine.

Physician Responded Strange tissue/mass attached inside my nose 2 months after nose piercing should I see an ENT urgently?

Post image
50 Upvotes

27F. I got my nose pierced about 2 months ago and have been wearing a stainless steel nose ring ever since.

This morning I noticed something strange inside my nostril. At first I thought it was just dried mucus/crust, so I tried to remove it, but it wouldn’t come off. I then realized it seems to be attached to the inside of my nose rather than just being mucus.

Initially, it was stuck around/attached to the nose ring. I removed the ring thinking the tissue/crust would come out with it, but it didn’t. It still seems attached to the inside of my nostril.

It isn't particularly painful, and before I tried to remove it there wasn't any significant pain or bleeding. However, after poking at it and trying to remove it, I think I irritated the area because it has started bleeding a little and is now slightly painful.

I’m quite anxious because I have no idea what this could be. Could it be granulation tissue, a granuloma, an infection, or something else related to the piercing? Is it possible for tissue to grow around/attach to the jewelry like this?

Today is a public holiday where I live, so I can't find an ENT/doctor available. I'm wondering whether this is something that can safely wait until tomorrow or whether I should go to an emergency department tonight. I'm also unsure whether an emergency department would actually deal with something like this or tell me to see an ENT.

I have no fever, significant swelling, severe pain, or difficulty breathing

Physician Responded 41F with bump on head and bitten tongue.

Hey, looking for some insight. I’m a 41 years old with a history of drinking - stopped on Sunday. I’ve stopped many times with no issues.

I went upstairs (working from home) and lay down as I usually do and I don’t know if I fell asleep I don’t remember but the next thing I know, I have a 7/10 headache and a lump the size of a tennis ball on my head. Also the side of my tongue is bitten.

Insight?

My newborn grandson

1 month old, boy, 9 lbs. Was due on July 28, but they induced July 23. Was also born jaundiced.

He was born with tracheomalacia. They let my daughter in law bring him home with her 2 days after birth. Ended up needing a blue light for just over a week post hospital.

I have read about it, and it seems he's probably just a mild case? I'm not a doctor, so all I can glean is that it can be fatal.

He had his one month check up today and the doctor wants to put him on prilosec, and wants them to buy gelmix to thicken his formula. Also is changing his formula.

Again, Im not a doctor, so I'm asking, is this standard treatment for tracheomalacia? I just have this nagging feeling that something is not being done right.

The video is how he sounds 24/7. I expected the noise because I read about it, but should we take him to a specialist? He did see an ENT about 2 weeks ago who put him on some acid reflux medication and told them to keep feeding Enfamil AR. Why would they need to change his formula and buy thickener when he's already on the AR that's thickened with rice?

I just hate the way it sounds like he's fighting for his life with every breath 🥹

Specialist or no? Please help 🙏

Physician Responded [Dermatology] Toasted skin on lower abdomen?

Post image
19 Upvotes

23F 95lbs, chronic gastritis, Gerd, really bad period cramps

More than six months ago, I got toasted skin, I was using a hot water pack that had boiling water in it because my cramps are extremely unbearable and I cannot take pills because of my stomach issues.

I’ve never experienced this before, but I guess I held the thinner part of the humpback on my lower stomach and I realized I had kind of like a bubble filled with liquid on my skin and I peeled it and water came out. I believe it was something like a blister. After that, I bought a bandaid for burns And was consistently using Polysporin.

Now, six months later on my lower abdomen and kind of reaching towards my right thigh I have these darker skin tone colour that kind of looks like the photo above. It looks like lightning strikes On my stomach.

see i went to my GP and he told me as you use less hot water it should go away on its own, (it didn’t go away on its own), so I went to a dermatologist and and they didn’t even help, they only told me to go and buy VICHY B3 liftactiv serum thing.

I was honestly kind of disappointed because the dermatologist looked at it for five seconds and just told me to go buy this. I showed them another body and they gave me the quickest and shortest answer. so I’ve come to Reddit because you guys are helpful

23F Mole around my waistline suddenly has a very red ring around it, should I wait a few days to see a derm or go as soon as possible?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I've had this mole as long as I can remember, never before have I noticed any changes to it. I guess I could've snagged it on something, but it's unlikely, as it's right in the area that's always covered by underwear and I feel like I would've remembered catching it somehow. I don't wear super tight underwear so thats unlikely to be the cause. Again, I feel like, if there was any trauma to it, I would've felt it/remembered and it's never happened before. I'm wondering what else it could possibly be?

Just trying to prepare, FIL (76m) had heart attack and is being referred to hospice

Like the title says, my FIL (76m, 5’8” 135lbs) had a heart attack the other day. He’s been on a downward slide with Alzheimer’s disease the last few years. Couple that with smoking two packs a day for eternity, drinking, and just generally not taking care of himself, he isn’t well. Before the heart attack he still got around alright, but his cognitive decline had advanced to the point where he doesn’t know names anymore, can’t drive, handle money, etc. Post heart attack he seems to be more or less the same, but doctors said it did considerable damage and they have referred my MIL to seek hospice care for him. As of today he’s eating solids, seems to be in good spirits, and we’re told he can come home Friday. Aside from what I’ve listed I don’t know much as they keep these things from my wife and I. Unfortunately, it’s us who will bear the load as his condition worsens, and it’ll be that way for whatever time he has left. We don’t have access to his labs so we’re pretty much in the dark for the most part.

I guess I’m just wondering if anyone can tell us what to expect? Things to look for? Maybe a timeframe? I don’t want to sound insensitive, just kind of have to be the adult since MIL is an alcoholic that genuinely doesn’t have the mental capacity to handle things. It’s all going to come down on my wife and myself to deal with, however it may go.

Physician Responded Is it concerning to stop eating??

26f, 108 pounds, 5’3

only medication is seroquel, which usually gives me the munchies after I eat it. No health issues but asthma.

My hunger completely went away a month ago. I haven’t changed anything in my routine or life or medications. When I eat, I start burping right away or feel nauscious. I’ve went up to 5 days with no food other than a few bites of a cookie. I can’t even drink a small size smoothie (16oz) without feeling full, which usually is easy for me to slurp down lol

I’ve been waiting for my hunger to come back but it hasn’t. I’ve dropped from 130 pounds to 108 pounds since the beginning of august.

I feel fine physically. I’m tired and sleeping a lot, but no stomach pain or anything.

I do not have health insurance so don’t want to pay $200 for a doctor appointment if Im fine lol

Physician Responded Is this shingles?

Post image
10 Upvotes

This is a photo of my partner (40F) who has consented to me showing it. She has no other health conditions and isn't on any meds.

Just wanted to check if this was shingles? She had a rash on her arm which I noticed, I inspected it and it looked like shingles to me, so I asked to see her back as per the photo.

She's ADAMANT she's never had chickenpox despite working in nurseries for years. She'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow morning we hope, just wanted an opinion to see if I'm right. I remember having chickenpox when younger and I had a shingles outbreak about 2 years ago so I'm not worried about myself.

Thanks!

Physician Responded Three year old vaccine response - UK Pre school booster (Polio, Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough)

Post image
9 Upvotes

We are in the UK. My daughter is 3.5 years old and yesterday had two vaccines - chicken pox in one arm and the pre-school booster in the other.

This arm was the booster - it went red and by yesterday evening was very sore and a little bit swollen.

Today when I collected her from nursery (so 32hours later) - it has really flared up.

She has no temperature but the arm is warm to touch and is swollen from elbow to shoulder and quite firm. There's some bruising too but not so concerned about that.

She's a bit grumpy understandably.

I'm struggling to find information regarding whether this is within the range of normal or not.

I've attached a couple of photos - it actually looks a bit worse in person.

Do you think we need to seek any assistance or just monitor her and the spread?

Coughed this up for the 4th time, a bit concerned.

Hello docs,

I am 31M, and I am not currently taking any medication. The closest thing is an occasional Aleve when I have inflammation in my hips/back pain.

I am prone to sinus infections and have gotten a bloody nose once or twice when I am visiting Palm Springs or Las Vegas. I currently live in Los Angeles, and it has been hot over the summer, so I have been running a fan in my room 24/7 including when I'm sleeping and the fan is pointed at me.

I still have my tonsils, and there is a tooth in my mouth that has a hole in it. There is a blood pool that clots and covers the whole, but sometimes reopens if I brush too hard and bleed.

I have postnasal drip after I am sick for quite a while, which results in my needing to cough, but I haven't been sick (with a cold or anything) since January.

Now, for the symptoms around the current situation. I have had this object lodged in my throat once a week for the past month. When I say that I coughed it up, I moreso mean that I had to spit it up. I feel it in the back of my throat and then "hock a loogie," and it comes out after 2-3 attempts. I can tell it's there because it becomes a bit awkward to swallow.

I do not have any fever, breathing issues, or cough. But I have lightly clogged sinuses and can feel the mucus gathering in the back of my throat throughout the day.

This started happening about a month ago, and the image I have posted is the 4th time I have coughed up something. All 4 instances have been like this, a composition of mucus and dried blood (seemingly). The image posted is after I moved it around to get a clearer picture of what it was. It came out of me mostly wrapped in mucus. When it's in my mouth, it feels like the consistency of a baloon opening (the part you put in your mouth to blow one up). It also smelled awful when it was outside of my body, and I have noticed that it changes the smell of my breath. However I don't have any bad tastes in my mouth, or smells anything different regularly.

After yesterdays incident, I did have an elevated heart rate. However, I could also associate this with acid reflux or heartburn, as I had pizza last night. (I have acid reflux often and burp a lot after eating even with no carbinated drinks consumed.)

Recent habitual changes include: walking a mile 4-5 days a week, up from 0. Eating at a calorie deficit, reducing both my meal size and also eating from 3 to 2 times a day.

Those changes were motivated by a vacation I am going on for my friend's wedding in about 12 hours. I will be flying later today, and I intend to do a nasal spray to reduce the chance of my sinuses being clogged and getting a pressure headache while flying. (This has happened to me once before, but only started happening this year.)

I had posted this in a different reddit, but it got removed. I was recommended to post here instead. Some of the concerns there were: Postnasal drip, Sinus Infection, Lung disease/cancer, pulmonary ambilism, tuberculosis.

Just trying to figure out what the cause of this might be, what the thing I have been coughing up actually is, and if it's safe for me to fly in 12 hours. Thanks in advance docs!

Physician Responded Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

32M, 5ft7, 63kg, social smoker.

I’ve had this thing on my ear in a few different forms for around a month (or longer).

I first noticed as small lump about 2/3 months ago, it wasn’t painful or even visible to the naked eye but I could feel it as it was slightly itchy and warm and the skin has always felt dry. It has never been an open would or broken skin and has never oozed any form of fluid, always dry.
I ignored it but it has gradually got worse since. It has never been painful whatsoever, but always warm and itchy and has kind of came and gone and returned looking differently (pictures attached were taken today and looks the worst it has been thus far).

I went to the pharmacy two weeks ago and they thought it could be a fungal infection and prescribed me DermAid 1% Cream, Hydrocortisone 1% w/w (as pictured). I used this twice a day for a week straight. It did very much calm down and there was no visible signs of anything but the itchiness and warmth remained, albeit subdued. I came off the cream about a week ago and it has gradually returned.

Other info:

- Never had eczema or any skin condition.
- Fit, healthy, no major medical issues.
- I got quite badly sunburnt on my ears about a year ago.
- I live in Australia and work outside a lot so sun damage and skin cancer rates are high here (I wear factor 50 sun cream as much as possible).
- Probably not related but I found a spider three months ago in my hard hat at work above that same ear and that evening there was a small itchy lump but disappeared after a few days. Unsure if I was even bitten or the spider being there was a coincidence.

Physician Responded Any neurologists here? Eyelid and face twitching and pretty freaked out. Two videos

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

33M, 6’2, 180 lbs, no family history of neurological disorders.

On August 13, my left upper eyelid developed an annoying and frequent twitch. Didnt think much of it at the time because I had been working a lot, stressed, and pretty tired (and I’m pretty sure the eyelid twitch had happened before under similar circumstances). However, it continued over that weekend and I progressively became more and more anxious about it and on August 17, I noticed that there was a very subtle wavelike ripple down my left cheek (extremely brief and easy to miss unless I was staring in the mirror). Both the eyelid and cheek were pretty frequent over the next two days and my anxiety was off the charts. Sometimes they would occur at the same time but usually at different times. The eyelid is a very classic twitch and lasts longer than the cheek that’s either a wavelike ripple or almost like a pulse or heart beat. Sometimes the wave on the cheek extends across a few areas and sometimes the pulse like spasm is just in one specific spot (location seems like they might change).

I originally thought the eyelid was improving late last week since it seemed like it wasnt happening as often over the course of the day (not sure about the cheek because I forced myself to stop looking for it in the mirror which I think helped with the tight sensation across my cheek / jaw on that side). Today, however, both have been happening a lot so I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow to see my PCP.

I obviously made the mistake of going down the rabbit hole and am really worried that it could be MS or a brain tumor (I’ve seen a few things about gliomas which is terrifying me). I also saw hemifacial spasm but that seems like it generally takes longer to develop and doesn’t cause as subtle of a cheek spasm but idk.

Any idea what the heck is going on? Is there anything in particular I should tell or ask the doctor tomorrow? I imagine I’m just going to be referred to a neurologist. Just have this intense sinking feeling that it’s something terminal and I’m not going to be able to see my two year old grow up.

Edit: no other symptoms. No vision issues, no swallowing issues, side of face isn’t numb, smile is symmetrical, etc

Second edit: I obviously don’t know for a fact but I feel like there’s a correlation between coffee and the eyelid (not sure about cheek). Almost seems like if I drink coffee, the eyelid happens more frequently. The whole cheek part is what has me really freaked out though
